LG has launched its Tone Free wireless earbud lineup for 2022, and the new flagship model comes with built-in equalizer and support for Dolby’s Head Tracking technology. Similar to Samsung’s Galaxy Buds Pro, which also has Dolby’s 360 audio feature, the T90 has the capability to recalibrate sounds as you move your head to make it appear as if they’re truly coming from all around you. LG says the T90s are also the first earbuds to feature an audio virtualizer that Dolby designed for the form factor in order to expand its “spatial dimensionality” for a more immersive experience.
The company’s other new Tone Free model is its first fitness-focused earbuds called the Tone Free Fit or TF8, which were designed with a secure fit to keep them in place so they don’t fall out in the middle of workout sessions. This model can last for up to 10 hours without its hybrid Active Noise Cancellation switched on, while the T90 can last for up to nine hours so long as its adaptive ANC is not in use.
Both models’ charging cases come with a feature that kills 99.9 percent of bacteria on the earbuds using UV-C light. Plus, the T90’s charging case doubles as a Bluetooth transmitter that lets you add wireless connectivity to source devices that don’t it. If you have sensitive skin or get an allergic reaction to most earbuds, it’s worth noting that the T90s have medical-grade, hypoallergenic ear gels, as well.

LG has yet to reveal how much the new earbuds cost, but they will be available in the US starting in September.
Tecno announced a new smartphone in India a couple of days ago, called Camon 19 Pro 5G. The Piaget Polo collection has long been a benchmark in the world of high-end sports watches, and the latest release of the Skeleton and Date references with green dials are elegantly eye-catching. We’ve seen a lot of green dial watches released over the last couple of years, but this new offering from Piaget elevates the color to a new level of sporty sophistication that will look as great as it does in the office as it does in the great outdoors.
Green is definitely having a moment in the watch world, joining blue as an alternative to more conservative white or black dials. You can quickly understand why, as green delivers a similar touch of color that a casual blue dial might serve up, without being as attention seeking as an orange or yellow dial.
Within Piaget’s green Polo watches is the skeletonised dial in stainless steel, as well as a solid green dial cased in 18k rose gold. Despite the differences in materials, the complexity of creating the skeletonised dial in the stainless steel reference sees them priced similarly, with each watch bringing a very different impression to the wrist.
RELATED: The Piaget Polo Date Was My Unexpected Hit Of Watches And Wonders
Both timepieces feature 42mm cases, but that’s where the case similarities finish. The skeletonised steel version measures an impressively slender 6.5mm in thickness, with a water resistance guarantee of 30m. In contrast, the rose gold version is slightly thicker at 9.4mm thick, but has an increased water resistance of 100m, arguably making it more versatile in terms of where you can wear it.
The green skeletonised dial isn’t much of a dial, instead delivering the naturally inspired hue through the color treated bridges and plates of the movement, allowing a generous view of the mechanical elements of the movement. The solid green dial of the rose gold reference features the same horizontal grooves that you might have seen on other Piaget Polo models, including the black, blue, gray or silver examples, with solid gold applied hour markers, hands and the trapezoidal date window frame .
As you’d expect from two watches that deliver such different visual impressions, both timepieces are powered by their own movements, with the skeletonised reference containing the in-house Caliber 1200S1. It serves up a view of the dark gray microrotor, as well as the mainspring barrel, and features approximately 44 hours of power reserve. In contrast, the rose gold reference is powered by the in-house Caliber 1110P automatic movement, which ticks away at 28,800vph and delivers 50 hours of power reserve.
While the rose gold reference arrives on a comfortable green leather strap, the skeletonized steel model comes with a matching steel H-link bracelet, as well as the option of an interchangeable leather strap. It’s an exciting new offering from Piaget, that not only shows the versatility of the Polo collection, but also offers an entirely new presence on the wrist.
The skeletonised stainless steel version comes with an RRP of $46,400, while the reference in rose gold has a price of 44,900.
Twitch star Zack “Asmongold” revealed that he sent a message to Blizzard Entertainment regarding the drop rates of certain items in World of Warcraft.
The streamer is a known completionist and has been hosting mount and rare item collection streams on his alternate Twitch channel.
After being unable to get a rare item called Necroray Egg from an in-game box, Tribute of the Ambitious, Zack stated that he has taken the matter to Blizzard Entertainment and complained about the drop rates of such items.
Asmongold reads out a message he sent to Blizzard Entertainment regarding drop rates in World of Warcraft
The OTK (One True King) co-founder is a vocal critic of the game and does not shy away from providing his opinions on Blizzard Entertainment’s hugely popular MMORPG.
On August 8, Zack was busy farming rare items and mounts on stream. While he was at it, he completed the required activities to get a box called Tribute of the Ambitious, which had a chance to contain a rare mount, Necroray.
After opening the box and failing to get the mount, Asmongold revealed that he complained about the matter to Blizzard Entertainment and asked his viewers if they were interested in seeing what he wrote to the game developer.
Fans expressed their eagerness, so the streamer opened a word document and began reading the message out loud:
“What is the design goal with the Necroray Eggs that drop from the Maldraxxus calling boxes? Personally, I’ve opened ~170 boxes and received 0 eggs, and while I thought maybe I was having bad luck, I looked online, and there were people who had opened over 300 without seeing a single egg.”
Asmongold claimed that the average player would likely spend a year farming the items in the hopes of acquiring them:
“Assuming the chance of getting an egg is between 1-50 and 1 and 100, an average player would have to spend an entire YEAR farming these callings, assuming equal representation of covenants (anyone serious would be Maldraxxus covenant so they could get the generic ‘complete Maw encounters’ and ‘collect rare items’ etc. callings to reward a Maldraxxus box as well as they are given based on your current covenant) to obtain just one of these eggs, let alone the three that are required to have all the mounts.”
Zack continued by saying that if the low chance of the item dropping was an intended design, he would continue farming them. However, it felt excessive that a player had to work so hard for an item that was merely a recolor of a mount that was released two expansions ago:
“As someone who’s collected every single paragon mount in the game, farming these has to be a dramatic departure from the rest in a generally negative way. Looking at comments on Wowhead, others feel the same. If this is actually the intended design, then so be it! I’ll keep farming lol. However, it seems disproportionate that a reward you need 3x of that’s just a recolor from the 7.3 Argus Ray takes seemingly over 10 times longer to obtain.”
The strong message to Blizzard Entertainment came to an end as Asmongold claimed that he did not want to come off as an angry mount collector and was only expressing legitimate concerns regarding the low chances of obtaining certain rewards:
“I don’t want to come off like a mount collector who’s salty, they didn’t get the drop (I am), but moreso draw attention and ask a legitimate question considering there’s a good chance it might not be intended, given the precedent set by previous paragon box/calling box rewards.”
After reading the message, Asmongold added some final thoughts on the subject:
“I genuinely don’t believe that there was any thinking involved. It’s just thrown in there haphazardly and without really any consideration. You know what another example is? It’s like Blizzard didn’t even know the health of Castle Nathria bosses went up. “
Fans react to Asmongold’s message to Blizzard Entertainment
Fans in the YouTube comment section provided a wide range of opinions, with some stating that the unending grind for items in the game has diminished their desire to play the MMORPG:

TCL has surprised me with its C835 Mini LED TV. Alongside the likes of Samsung, Sony and LG, I’d always associated TCL with more reserved, budget-friendly specifications and quality. However, with features that felt prohibitively expensive just a couple of years ago, the TCL Mini LED C835 ushers in next-gen TV tech with a favorable price tag, giving other major manufacturers a run for their money.
The Cheapest TCL C835 Mini LED TV Prices: 55″ – $1,595 / 65″ – $2,395 / 75″ – $3,195
TheDisplay
Rattling off the specs makes for impressive reading: a Quantum Dot Mini LED display, full array local dimming, a 144Hz refresh rate, HDMI 2.1 ports, VRR and ALLM support, ONKYO speakers with an in-built subwoofer, support for Dolby Vision IQ, Dolby Atmos and IMAX Enhanced content, and Google TV.
But it’s first and foremost the display where the TCL C835 Mini LED shines.
And ‘shines’ is right; this thing is bright! The 4K Quantum Dot Mini LED screen works wonders for brightness and colors in both well-lit and dim environments, so much so that I needed to crank the brightness way down with the lights off.
Firing up IMAX Enhanced content such as Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness on Disney+ looks incredible once you navigate through the picture settings to disable motion smoothing. HDR10+ and Dolby Vision certification, which settings that automatically adjust to the displayed content, ensure you’re getting the best picture without messing around with options too much. The glossy finish is a touch reflective but allows the colors to pop.
Full array local dimming with hundreds of zones results in decent blacks that aren’t OLED-level inky but more than sufficient for a fantastic movie-watching experience. If you’re concerned about burn-in or an OLED holding up in a sun-soaked living space, a screen such as this would be worth considering.
Gaming Features
Of course, the gaming experience on the TCL C835 Mini LED is excellent.
The Quantum Dot Mini LED tech and HDR mean colour-rich games such as Horizon Forbidden West stunning look. Full array local dimming also ups the scare factor of horror games like The Quarry. The contrast looked amazing and greatly improved the experience compared to the similarly priced gaming monitor on which I’d previously been playing the game.
Support of 4K 120 frames per second gaming, with automatic low latency support (ALLM) and a variable refresh rate (VRR), mean your not skimping out on all the next-gen features of your latest console via one of the two included HDMI 2.1 ports. 144Hz is possible through one of the ports with HDMI 2.1 compatible gaming PC too
TCL’s game bar allows you to tweak some settings on the fly, display a stat bar and access an in-built aiming aid that adds crosshairs to your screen. However, I largely left the gaming settings alone; messing with the picture settings and disabling ALLM resulted in too big an increase in response time it immediately had me switching back.
The Design
Whilst the specs of the TCL C835 Mini LED feel premium, it’s perhaps the design of the TV where the comparatively low price point is a bit more noticeable.
Alongside the competition, the C835 is a touch on the thicker side. Although the bezel is nice and thin, if you’re looking for something to wall mount and sit flush against the wall, this likely isn’t a candidate. Resting it on an entertainment unit is no problem; the included stand is nice and minimal, but mine, unfortunately, came with a couple of dints and the white rubber feet that are visible from the front otherwise break the clean metallic gray finish.
The in-built ONKYO speaker system complete with subwoofer is commendable for this price point — and will get you buy should you be putting off a soundbar purchase — but paled in comparison to the entry-level hi-fi system I coupled with the screen.
My only other complaint with regard to the design is the location of the ports which are mostly all aligned on the right edge of the screen whilst facing it. The power connector is the only exception, stretching to the opposite side of the screen. Althought they’re easy enough to stretch across the back and route down through the stand, doing so means you lose a good half a meter or so of cable length.
Streaming & Smart Capabilities
Google TV makes for a solid experience navigating the TCL C835 Mini LED’s menus. Content and settings are easily accessible, even if it wasn’t always clear looking through the options what picture settings the automatic adjustments to displayed content were locking off and altering.
Although it shouldn’t come as a shock given how well it handles the picture, I was also pleasantly surprised by how decent the processor was for the price. Scrolling through the menus feels snappy and apps open and load content sharply.
I was a big fan of the remote control too. Devoid of any motion tracking or any gimmicks like that, the simple remote includes all the keys you need, including dedicated streaming buttons for Netflix, Stan, Prime Video, Disney+ and YouTube. The only hindrance is the button for the TCL Channel I never touched.
Setup was effortless, and connecting the TV to my Google Home was easy. Support for Alexa and Apple HomeKit is also a welcome addition. Almost all the apps I required game pre-installed, but thanks to the broad compatibility Google TV offers, everything else you may need is only a button press or two away.
Conclusion
The TCL C835 is packed with features, meaning you don’t have to skimp on functionality to keep within your budget. The bright, vibrant display, content-friendly optimizations, and slick interface make for a great gaming and entertainment experience. Only a couple of design grievances and the lack of jaw-dropping picture quality offered by newer and significantly more expensive OLED tech hold it back. Considering it’s already dipped below $1,500, the TCL C835 Mini LED 55″ is a strong contender in its category and absolutely worth considering as an alternative to similarly priced Sony and Samsung TVs.
A team from the University at Buffalo has developed a simple, non-invasive way to diagnose three common ear diseases. The new system involves an audio test that uses an audio chirp to map out the ear structure in conjunction with Bluetooth earphones and a deep learning AI system.
The EarHealth system uses a pair of Bluetooth earphones modified with inward-facing microphones and linked to a smartphone application. The device works by chirping an audio signal into the user’s ear, then recording the sound’s reverberation time as it travels through the ear canals. This allows the system to profile each user’s specific inner ear shape.

A reading is taken from the user with a sonar-like audio chirp when they are healthy to create a baseline. Then, the test is repeated regularly to check for changes. In human trials with 92 participants, the system diagnosed three common conditions that change the ear’s geometry with an accuracy of 82.6% only by looking for changes in the inner ear.
It recognized three common ear conditions: ruptured eardrums, earwax blockage, and ostitis media, a common ear infection. Furthermore, it could spot them before they become significant issues in many cases.
The researchers have identified four different conditions that alter the returned audio signal in a way the deep learning system can identify and diagnose at over 80% accuracy. (Credit: University at Buffalo)
Zhanpeng Jin, Ph.D., the lead author of a study published by the ACM, explained:
“With EarHealth, we have developed what we believe is the first-ever earbud-based system that monitors ear health conditions in an effective, affordable and user-friendly way. In addition, because it has the potential to detect these conditions very early, it could greatly improve health outcomes for many people.”
The researchers aim to increase the system’s accuracy by examining the potential influence of ear hair, prior eardrum irritation, and other variables on readings. However, the system appears efficient, practical, and user-friendly enough to gain universal acceptance for regular, super-fast ear exams.
EarHealth is still in its infancy, and there are some limitations. For example, the system cannot be used to identify more complex ear problems such as otosclerosis or chronic middle ear infections. It also does not work well if users wear glasses or hearing aids. However, it is much cheaper than current methods and could be useful for screening large populations.

If you’ve been relying on those dodgy bathroom scales you’ve had since the beginning of time to give you an indicator of your weight, it’s time to invest in an upgrade. why? Not only do they just offer up a mere number on a screen, but there is so much more at play when it comes to generating a holistic picture of your health. Enter: smart scales. The handy bathroom device that will give you a range of different health readings to help inform your lifestyle.
What are smart scales, and how are they different from regular scales?
Aside from simply measuring body weight (which is barely scraping the surface), these scales read a range of things like BMI (Body Mass Index), bone density, muscle mass, water percentage, and BMR (basal metabolic rate — the calories used when you’re active or resting) — making them a one-stop-shop for an overall view of your wellbeing.
So how do smart scales work?
Smart scales send electrical currents called bioelectrical impedance impulses throughout the body while you stand barefoot on the scales. These pulses send messages back to the smart system that logs all your measurements, so you can consistently track your progress. These tiny pulses are also perfectly safe for the average person. However, people with pacemakers should not use this type of scale.
Obviously, as the scales get more advanced, it’s possible to see the metrics for each body part — arms, torso, legs etc. — so you can somewhat target those areas when you’re in the gym. So if you’re looking to improve your health and fitness levels, these scales are a worthy investment.
Some smart scales even have an app attached to them so that you can track all your measurements and progress in one place.
Ahead, we’ve rounded up some of the best smart scales online so you know which ones are worth spending your hard-earned cash on.

(Pocket-lint) – It looks like Apple could be working on a flurry of smart home devices that could include not only a new HomePod and HomePod mini, but a smart display too, competing with the likes of Google’s Nest Hub and Amazon’s Echo Show .
According to Mark Gurman’s latest Power On newsletter, Apple has “at least four new smart home devices in its labs”, though he does add that “not all will see the light of the day.” Gurman mentions one of these devices as an update to the original HomePod that was discontinued in 2021, which he has reported on previously.
That device is said to be named B620 and it’s claimed it will run the same chip as the Apple Watch Series 8, whilst being closer to the discontinued HomePod “in terms of size and audio performance” rather than the HomePod mini.
An updated HomePod mini was also mentioned though in the newsletter too, along with a kitchen device that combines an iPad and a speaker, and a living room device that combines an Apple TV, camera, and HomePod.

Samsung Unpacked is just a few days away, but the rumor mill is already going into overdrive about a more distant Samsung Galaxy Z Fold Tab.
Samsung fanatics probably need no reminder that Samsung Unpacked will be hitting their screens on 10 August. Some marquee announcements are expected to include new additions to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold and Flip lines.
But rumor says that Samsung isn’t done innovating foldable displays. In fact, its very first foldable tablet, possibly titled the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold Tab, may be close on the horizon.
Here’s everything we think we know about this reported device. For more information, check out our guide to the 9 best tablets in Australia.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold Tab release date
Recent reports say that Samsung plans to launch the Fold Tab on the same day as the Galaxy Tab S9 series. Based on the history of Galaxy Tab launches, this should take place around January–February 2023.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold Tab price
One area in which the rumor mill has been rather quiet is the price of a potential Galaxy Z Fold Tab. Galaxy Z Fold phones have gradually been getting cheaper from generation to generation, but the latest entry in the series still starts at a whopping $2,499.
What’s more, leaked retail listings for the Fold 4 have suggested this trend may soon be bucked, with a moderate price increase expected to take place. All this is to say that foldable technology isn’t cheap and you should steel yourself to see the Galaxy Z Fold Tab launch with a sizeable price tag.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold Tab design
The list of reports on Samsung display innovations is long. Earlier this year, we saw a patent submitted regarding a rollable display with a transparent section. We’ve also seen dual-folding and slidable prototypes and patents from the company.
It’s the dual-folding concept that has really taken the Internet by storm. The design involves 2 folding hinges that can be used to create a variety of form factors, including a very smartphone-reminiscent look when folded in on itself. When unfolded, it can create a unique S shape for a more 3-dimensional viewing experience.
Here are some renders that have been mocked up indicating how this technology might look if updated in the Galaxy Z Fold Tab.
The design would make the tablet pocket-sized when fully folded and could see a size upwards of 10 inches when completely unfurled. A space for an S Pen to dock and charge would also exist when the device is folded.
Once again, it’s just too early to say anything definitive about how the Galaxy Z Fold Tab will actually look. What we do know is that Samsung has a ton of incredible ideas and prototypes to work with. We can’t wait to see which ones come to fruition.
