CEO Braden Wallake posts crying selfie on LinkedIn after laying off employees—and it goes viral

A CEO has sparked a major debate online after posting a selfie of himself crying on LinkedIn following layoffs he made at his company.

Braden Wallake, who runs the Ohio-based business-to-business marketing agency Hypersocial in the US, shared the picture on Wednesday.

The post has since received more than 6,700 comments and nearly 33,000 reactions.

“This will be the most vulnerable thing I’ll ever share. I’ve gone back and forth whether to post this or not. We just had to lay off a few of our employees. I’ve seen a lot of layoffs over the last few weeks on LinkedIn. Most of those are due to the economy, or whatever other reason. Ours? My fault.” Wallake wrote alongside the picture that shows tears streaming down his face from him.

Wallake says he made a decision in February that eventually led to the layoffs. He has not yet explained what this decision was but said on LinkedIn that he planned to do so in the future.

Describing the layoffs as the “toughest thing” he has ever had to do, Wallake said he loved his employees and wished that he was “a business owner that was only money driven and didn’t care about who he hurt along the way”.

‘Yes, I am the crying CEO’

Some LinkedIn users mocked Wallake’s post, calling him “out of touch” and “cringe-worthy” or suggested that he should focus on helping his former employees rather than on how the situation had affected him.

“Por favor. Laying off people is horrific for you, but more horrific for them. It’s about taking care of their welfare, not grief posting for your own likes. This is ungracious, gratuitous, insensitive and tacky. Grow up, look after those people who you claim to be so worried about, own your mistakes privately and stop being so narcissistic,” one commenter wrote.

Others supported Wallake, saying they understood laying people off was an emotional process, and praised his openness.

This includes one of his former employees, Noah Smith, who defended his former boss and said he would only want to work for managers like him.

“To those who would look to hire me, I’m only interested in working for people like Braden Wallake who has a positive outlook on life. I’m not interested in working for you if you think working more hours ONLY to make more money is the most valuable way to spend your time.”

Wallake followed up his original message with a follow-up post, saying, “Hey everyone, yes, I am the crying CEO. No, my intent was not to make it about me or victimize myself. I am sorry it came across that way.”

“It was not my place to out the employees’ names publicly,” he continued. “What I want to do now, is trying to make better of this situation and start a thread for people looking for work.”

Hypersocial was not immediately available to comment when contacted by CNBC.

A broader trend?

André Spicer, professor of organizational behavior at Bayes Business School, told CNBC that the post is unsurprising considering current management trends.

“It’s a trend, CEOs and leaders have been encouraged to be authentic and bring their real selves to work,” Spicer said. “It’s showing your real emotions and real reactions and people are kind of encouraged to display this through a lot of current management thinking … so it’s not surprising.”

He added that Wallake appeared to be navigating a delicate balancing act between being too authentic and not authentic enough – sometimes referred to as bounded authenticity.

“So ideally, what this guy should have done is sort of used bounded authenticity, where he was a bit honest about the mistakes he’d made and he’ll admit to this, but then not turning it into a pity party about himself, basically.”

Buggles Child Care Beeliar fined after three young children walk out open gate and are found on path

Three children under the age of four walked out of a childcare center in Perth’s south and were found playing on a footpath, prompting a fine for the operators of the service.

Service provider ES5 Ltd, trading as Buggles Child Care Beeliar, was ordered to pay $22,000 and $2000 in costs by the State Administrative Tribunal for contravention of education and care service laws.

A Department of Communities investigation found that in August last year the children left the center through an outdoor gate.

Your local paper, whenever you want it.

A mother who was leaving after collecting her child noticed the children and ushered them back inside.

The investigation found educators at the center had noticed the gate left open more than once during the day and failed to notify the responsible person.

They also failed to ensure the gate was securely locked while the center failed to notify the Department of Communities Education and Care Regulatory Unit about the incident within the required 24 hours.

“This is the ninth time over the past two years where disciplinary action has been taken against a service where children have left the service unattended, and staff have been unaware of them leaving,” Department of Communities Executive Director Phil Payne said in a statement on Friday.

“Childcare service staff must focus on active supervision of children in their care.

“Checks around outdoor areas should include a physical, not just visual, check of gates to ensure they are securely locked.”

In other unrelated incidents, a Mandurah center was ordered to pay $20,000 in penalties and costs after four young children climbed through a fence and were found on the verge of a four-lane highway, in August 2020.

While in November that year a childcare center at Thornlie left a two-year-old girl unsupervised on a bus for almost two hours.

Powerball winner: Grandmother says she ‘couldn’t move’ after massive $20 million win

A grandmother in Melbourne’s west who woke up $20m richer after winning Powerball has revealed the secrets behind her newfound wealth.

The Truganina woman held the only national division one winning entry in Powerball draw 1369 on Thursday, turning her into a multi-millionaire overnight.

The lucky winner made the sage decision to switch up her usual numbers, which delivered her the $20m.

“I decided to mix things up, and instead of putting my usual three to four games on, I decided to get a Powerhit consisting of special numbers that mean the most to me,” she told the Lott.

“I’ve never expected to win anything big. I usually land three numbers, but never anything more.

The winning numbers in the draw were 30, 23, 9, 22, 5, 28 and 18, while the Powerball number was 3.

The woman also defied her husband’s doubts, who thought she had no chance of winning.

“When I purchased the ticket, my husband and daughter were with me, and I told them that I’d put a ticket on for Powerball, and my husband said to me, ‘don’t bother, we’re never going to win ‘” she grandmother said.

“I guess I’ve proved him wrong.”

The grandmother got the thrill of her life when she realized she had the winning numbers.

“I was sitting in the lounge room, and I checked the winning numbers before going to bed, and I didn’t believe it,” she said

“I couldn’t get out of the chair. I couldn’t go to the toilet. I couldn’t move. It was so surreal.

“I only got about 40 minutes sleep last night. I’m so tired, but it’s worth it.”

The grandmother could not believe her luck when she won.

The woman wants to use her millions to treat her family, with plans already under way for an Australian holiday.

“We would love to travel around Australia via train. All the sightseeing we would do is getting me excited!” she said.

“We would also love to help our children and grandchildren. We might help them all buy a house!”

The woman bought her winning entry from Wyndham Village Lotto & News, with the store’s owner Mahesh Thakur saying they were thrilled to have sold her the lucky numbers.

“It’s truly a special day for us, and we’re absolutely over the moon,” he said.

“When we found out the news last night, we couldn’t believe it. I couldn’t sleep either.”

The Lott’s division one winning tally has now reached 272 for 2022.

‘I hate you’: Daughter’s blistering attack on her father’s friend after dad’s death

The grieving daughter of a man who died in a horrific crash in South Australia last year has launched a blistering attack on the drunk and speeding driver responsible for his death.

Campbell Henderson, 29, appeared in court on Thursday after pleading guilty to causing the crash on Easter Monday 2021 that killed his friend and 39-year-old passenger Nick Peart.

Watch the video above for more on this story

The crash occurred just meters from the houses of both men, who were neighbors as well as friends.

Peart’s high school sweetheart and wife Elaine Revi-Peart told the court in a victim impact statement that more than a year after losing her partner: “I get chest pains which I can only describe as heartache.”

Henderson was driving almost 40km over the speed limit when he lost control around a bend in Brukunga and crashed into a large tree.

Witnesses reported seeing his distinctive yellow ute doing burnouts earlier that night.

His eldest daughter, 14, also made a scathing statement to the man who was once like an uncle to her: “I hate you, I want to see you leave in cuffs and prison clothes, you have ruined my life.”

“Without my dad, it is hell.”

Henderson was teary-eyed in court and remorseful as he admitted in court that his driving was “dangerous and irresponsible.”

“If there was any way I could trade places with Nick I would, I’ll never forgive myself.”

He pleaded guilty to causing the fatal crash.

The court heard Henderson had no criminal history and has suffered ongoing mental and physical health problems as a result of the accident he has little memory of.

It heard that the last thing Henderson remembers is being in the car, before waking up in hospital, after which he has experienced PTSD and suicidal tendencies.

His lawyer asked for a home detention report to be ordered, which Judge Joana Fuller said she would consider but did not order on Thursday.

Henderson was granted bail last year and has spent just hours in police custody.

He is South African-born but has been living in Australia since he was 10 years old, and is currently in the country on his mother’s UK passport.

He is set to be sentenced next month.

Revi-Peart said her neighbor “chose to drive that day”, and that her husband “paid the ultimate price for trusting a friend”.

Peart’s mother said her son’s death was a shocking and senseless tragedy.

The last year has been tough for the family, who aside from losing Peart, have had to find a new house following extensive water damage to their home, while also caring for their daughter Kayley who lives with the health condition Neurofibromatosis type 1.

The family fundraised over $30,000 after the accident to go towards legal costs, and to support the family grieving the loss of their sole wage earner.

Revenge is a dish best served cold … or in a newspaper’s ad page, using your cheating ex’s credit card.

Readers of Mackay and Whitsunday Life in Queensland’s east got a shock when they picked up their Friday edition and saw a full-page ad from a scorned lover called Jenny.

“Dear Steve, I hope you’re happy with her,” the open letter read.

“Now the whole town will know what a filthy cheater you are. From Jenny.

“PS I bought this ad using your credit card.”

Mackay and Whitsunday Life have been inundated with “dozens” of messages since the shocking letter went to print on page four.

“We do not know who Steve is, but apparently he’s been very very bad,” the newspaper said.

“We won’t be revealing any details about Jenny.”

But unfortunately the final piece of Jenny’s revenge seems to have not been pulled off.

“We have not charged the credit card in question,” Mackay and Whitsunday Life said.

But Jenny’s actions were met with praise from her legion of new-found fans.

“Jenny sounds like someone I want to be friends with,” one person said.

“Not all heroines wear capes. Jenny is my new favorite person,” said another.

“Couldn’t love this more if I tried LOL… Good on you Jenny,” proclaimed another amused commenter.

However some members of the public were not as kind to Steve.

“Never trust Steve,” one said.

“I would have charged the card,” another person brutally said.

“Everyone who knows a Steve and Jenny have suddenly sat up and taken notice,” someone joked.

Onlyfans star Courtney Clenney fought boyfriend in elevator before stabbing

Miami prosecutors unveiled video footage on Thursday that showed an OnlyFans star fighting with her boyfriend in an elevator just two months before fatally stabbing him in the chest.

Courtney Clenney, who boasts 2 million followers on Instagram, will be extradited to South Florida after her arrest in Hawaii this week on second-degree murder charges.

Miami-Dade County State Attorney Kathie Fernandez-Rundle said at a press conference announcing the charges Thursday that Clenney stabbed Christian Obumseli at close range during a fight at their luxury apartment on April 3.

Fernandez-Rundle said the pair had a “tempestuous” relationship that became so disruptive to residents in the apartment building that managers were pursuing their eviction.

To demonstrate Clenney’s capacity for violence, Fernandez-Rundle played a video from February showing the pair scuffling in an elevator that opened directly into their apartment.

“It certainly appears that the defendant was aggressively attacking Christian,” Fernandez-Rundle said.

The pair was known to have a highly tumultuous relationship.

Miami Office of the State Attorney

Clenney’s attorney, Frank Prieto, maintains that she stabbed Obumseli in self-defense after he shoved her to the ground.

Fernandez-Rundle said the couple’s constant warring had led to a brief separation in March while Clenney’s mother came to stay with her in the apartment.

But just two days before the fatal confrontation, the pair reconciled and Obumseli moved back in.

“The arguments began almost immediately,” she said, adding that cops responded to the apartment and found Clenney intoxicated.

Two days later, Fernadez-Rundle said the couple had a relatively quiet morning and recorded a video playing with their dog. Obumseli later left to get them sandwiches.

Clenney then went live on Instagram as Obumseli returned home at 4:33 pm that Sunday before they began arguing once again.

Clenney later claimed to investigators that she grabbed a knife after Obumseli threw her down to the floor and chucked it at him from a distance of 10 feet.

But Fernandez-Rundle said the evidence did not support that claim — and that she had stabbed him in the chest at close range. Obumseli was never armed.

Records show that the model called her mother twice before calling 911 at 4:57 pm, the prosecutor said. Obumseli could be heard on the 911 call “repeatedly saying that he was dying,” Fernandez-Rundle said.

She added that Obumseli was a victim of “domestic violence” — and that men are often unwilling to come forward to report their abuse.

Clenney had been getting therapy for PTSD stemming from the case in Hawaii before her arrest.

The video shows a struggle between both partners.
Lawyers for both parties have claimed that their clients were defending themselves.
Miami Office of the State Attorney

“We are completely shocked at Courtney’s arrest based upon the clear evidence of self-defense in this matter,” Prieto said Thursday. “Obumseli attacked her and choked her that evening; Courtney had no choice but to meet force with force.”

Larry Handfield, a lawyer for the Obumseli family, had initially argued that investigators prematurely deemed the stabbing a case of self-defense and pushed for a more thorough probe.

Joined at Thursday’s press conference by Obumseli’s brother and cousin, Handfield lauded the arrest.

“We always believed that with a thorough and fair investigation that this day would come into reality,” he said. “This is such a relief for the family. But it gives restored hope that even though delayed, justice will still come.”

Floods and frozen lamb risk for inland NSW

Forecasters have warned of possible renewed flooding of rivers in central inland NSW and issued a warning for sheep graziers that new lambs are at risk of freezing this weekend.

A flood watch is in place for multiple catchments including the Namoi, Macquarie, Bogan, Lachlan, Murrumbidgee, Murray, Mirrool Creek, Culgoa, Narran and Darling areas on Friday.

Forecasters believe there is a particular risk of major flooding of the Macquarie River at Warren, northwest of Dubbo, Jordan Otara from the Bureau of Meteorology told AAP on Friday.

Mr Otara said while showers across central NSW had not been torrential, recent heavy falls in some catchments, coupled with dam releases, had led to river heights staying high.

“As much as the flood peaks have necessarily gone through the river system in many areas, it’s the renewed flooding – so floodwaters are not necessarily going down below the minor flood level,” the senior meteorologist said.

“Basically we’re seeing those peaks essentially being long lived due to dam releases and other factors that come into play for how the river levels are reacting.

“It’s slow moving (rainfall), associated with water already on the ground, so more of a sustained flooding event.”

The Namoi and the northern end of the Gwydir River were also expected to receive substantial falls and moderate flooding was expected on Friday, Mr Otara said.

The Lachlan and Murrumbidgee rivers also had the potential to flood, but Mr Otara said the risk had lessened as rainfall totals did not reach forecast highs on Thursday.

A warning has also been issued to sheep graziers to look out for baby lambs, as a mixture of plunging temperatures, showers and westerly winds are expected on Saturday in the Tablelands and Snowy Mountains districts.

“When new lambs are born, and they are exposed to those conditions, there is a heightened risk that (they) cannot live through these sort of temperatures due to the wind-chill factor,” Mr Otara said.

The weather bureau was continuing to monitor the lamb risk, which was currently confined to southern NSW.

The bureau routinely issues warnings related to lambs across late winter and spring.

Port Hedland wins WA’s Sh**test Town contest, snatching crown from Kalgoorlie-Boulder

Port Hedland has officially snatched the crown from Kalgoorlie-Boulder, being voted in as WA’s Sh**test Town.

Kalgoorlie-Boulder has won the past three years, however Port Hedland won the dubious award for a single point this year, taking their debut title for the WA division.

In a brutal statement from the Sh**test Town of Australia organisers, the Port Hedland is described as a “derelict minerals discharge hole”, painting images of a mate in a sandpit after a big night, spitting out whatever comes.

Your local paper, whenever you want it.

“The iron anus owes its name to its turd-brown eyesore of a port… and its inhabitants’ inability to spell,” the statement read.

“Cattle and sheep farming was once a major industry for the town, but this ended when the animals all withered to a crisp. The only fauna able to survive Port Deadland’s intense heat are creatures like red-necked stints, red-necked avocets and red-necked people.”

The locals call their home the sunniest place in Australia — a great feat — however they sadly forgot to coat the surroundings in Banana Boat.

This has resulted in the landscape being deep-fried and sun-dried to a dusty brown colour, not unlike the inside of a plumbing pipe.

The engineers were focused on other things that day because the road layout is reminiscent of a circular maze; going in circles but never really arriving anywhere.

And when cyclone season hits, the spectacular drainage system clogs in record time, allowing roads to flood superbly and locking everyone inside.

Port Hedland port
Camera IconPort Hedland port Credit: james lauritz/supplied by Port Hedland Port Au

Currently the town is best known as an iron-ore hub and a spawning point for FIFO workers.

“Popular pastimes include racing wheelbarrows, smashing people’s solar panels and being hospitalized with a respiratory infection caused by iron ore dust,” STOA added.

Later this year Port Hedland will represent WA for a chance to win the national trophy.

In third place for WA came Fitzroy Crossing, followed by Armadale, Rockingham and Geraldton.

Perth came in at 11th place for the State.

This week’s 3 best hi-fi news announcements

The most interesting hi-fi (and head-fi) news stories for Week 32, 2022.

German headphone manufacturer sennheiser has announced the fourth version of its Momentum Wireless over-ear Bluetooth headphones. Thanks to a “2×2 beamforming mic array” and better wind noise reduction, the Momentum 4 Wireless promise improved active noise cancellation over the previous version. And taking a leaf from the Bowers & Wilkins headphone book, Sennheiser has angled the (4.2cm) driver inside each earcup towards the ear. However, unlike the B&W PX7 S2, the right Sennheiser earcup offers touch-sensitive control of transparency mode and phone calls (and presumably play/pause). The partnering SmartControl smartphone app offers EQ and a sound personalization feature that will probably put the devil in the details. Perhaps most significant of all, the Momentum 4 Wireless offers a whopping 60-hour playback time from a single charge – double that of the Sony WH-1000XM5 and the aforementioned Bowers – with a ten-minute quick charge netting 6 hours of playback time. These new noise cancellers support aptX Adaptive, aptX, AAC and SBC Bluetooth codecs and go on sale later this month for US$350/€350 (which is a bit cheaper than the version 3 model and the current Sony flagship).

light has announced the T3: a high-end streaming DAC that marries a dual mono circuit – built around a pair of ESS ES9028Pro chips – to a Leedh lossless volume control and puts it inside a sleek and stylish (my words) aluminum chassis which, according to Lumin, is less prone to fingermarks. Your choice of silver or black. D/A conversion supports PCM up to 384kHz and DSD up to DSD512 with single-ended and balanced outputs on offer. USB and BNC digital outputs also show up to handle optional connections to an external DAC. On the Ethernet-fueled streaming front, the T3 will play back local files and Qobuz streams from within Lumin’s UPnP/OpenHome-enabled smartphone app (iOS and Android) but it also supports Roon Ready, Spotify Connect, Tidal Connect (with MQA) and Apple AirPlay. The T3 begins shipping in September and will sell for €4990.

High-end Japanese manufacturer luxman is kicking off its centenary celebrations three years early with the announcement of a new integrated amplifier. The L-507Z is the first member of a new “Generation Z Series” and features the V1.0 LIFES feedback engine that presumably aims to minimize distortion. Also on board is a new 88-step electronically-controlled volume attenuator – called the LECUA1000 – that promises greater transparency over a broader range of volume levels. A custom-wound EL-type transformer and its associated power supply help deliver 110wpc into 8 Ohms, 210wpc into 4 Ohms, all with suitably snappy current delivery and a damping factor of 300. These ingredients sum to a total unit weight of over 25kg and an asking price of £8000/€9490. The L507Z begins shipping later this month.

Drivers warn Australians about the MG3: ‘Deserves to be in hell’

Straight-talking Aussies have unleashed on the MG3, a Chinese-made car that’s soaring up the sales chart across the country.

Normm Jean wrote a scathing review of the MG3, which can be purchased for $18,990 drive-away, making it the cheapest new car in the country.

MG made its debut as one of Australia’s highest-selling marques in March 2022 and has kept its place in the top 10 thanks to big sales of all three of its models – including the MG3, the best-selling vehicle in its segment.

The vehicle comes in three specifications, the Core priced at $18,990, the Core with navigation at $19,400 and the Excite, which has a price tag of $20,490.

He said he had been ‘unfortunate’ enough to take the Excite model for a spin and that he soon found he and the car were incompatible.

Straight-talking Aussies have unleashed on a car currently taking the country by storm as one driver describes the vehicle as a 'truly hateful car' (pictured, the MG3 Excite in white)

‘The salesperson told me she didn’t think I would like it when she gave me the keys to the demo Excite model, so we were starting off good,’ he said.

Mr Jean explained he was around 177cm tall and ‘not a giant’, but struggled to find a comfortable position in the hatchback.

‘Not to mention the rattles that a car with 50 km shouldn’t have,’ he said.

The car enthusiast complained there was only one cup holder, no digital speedometer, and the sun-visors were too small.

‘The plastic on the A-Pillar is so poorly fitting that it doesn’t like up with the windscreen properly,’ he said.

He said that in 2019 the MG3 Excite was selling for $17,490 drive away.

‘The exact car is now $20,490. It hasn’t been updated, or refreshed. It’s just had its price hiked up. I told my friend it was a sh*t heap and went back to the dealer.

For most of its history, MG was associated with British open-top roadsters but that changed with the collapse of Rover in 2005, which saw the Chinese state-owned SAIC group take over (pictured is Scottish actor Ewan McGregor with a classic MGA from 1962 )

‘In conclusion, if the MG3 was $12,990 drive away, I would absolutely buy one. Because it’s so cheap, who cares?

‘Drive the wheels off it, and send it to the wreckers when it’s stuffed. But there is no way on earth that I would spend $21,000 on this car.’

Mr Jean told Daily Mail Australia the car’s popularity was down to the reputation MG earned in the 1960s as the makers of a classic English sports car.

For most of its history, MG – also known as Morris Garages – was associated with British open-top roadsters, but that changed with the collapse of Rover in 2005, which saw the Chinese state-owned SAIC group take over.

Since then, MG has become synonymous with budget SUVs and hatches made in China – a far cry from its 1924 origins as a sports car badge.

‘It’s based on the badge,’ he said.

‘If you take the MG badge off them, they are just a cheap Chinese-made car that’s similar to a 2004 Hyundai Getz.’

‘The 1.5 engine and 4-speed car deserves to be in hell. It’s slow, and I mean slow. I can only compare it to a 1.2 Kia Picanto, but even that felt better.

‘But by far the worst thing for me, I couldn’t get the seat to lower, nor could I get the steering wheel to go high enough for me to get even remotely comfortable.’

Another motorist who asked to remain anonymous, described the MG3 Excite as a ‘truly hateful car’ and said people were better off buying a second-hand car.

‘There is a place for these types of cars, for people who want to get from A to B and don’t really care for a car or a brand,’ he said.

‘However, to charge $21,000 for a car of this quality, you would be better off buying a second-hand Corolla, Yaris or Mazda 2.

‘They are what I feel a very expensive disposable car that has been disguised as something cheap and cheerful.’

An MG spokesperson told Daily Mail Australia that in becoming the number-one seller in the segment, it has beaten its new vehicle rivals.

‘The continued popularity of the MG3 is testament to how many Australians have found this model to suit their needs both in style and performance,’ they said.

‘Additionally, for peace of mind, the MG comes with a comprehensive seven-year unlimited kilometer warranty and access to more than 100 dealers around Australia and New Zealand.’

Earlier in the year, Danny Lenartic, MG Motor’s general manager of electric vehicles in Australia and New Zealand, told Daily Mail Australia he expects the mark to be a big part of Australia’s automotive future.

Mr Lenartic said buyers also didn’t care that it was Chinese-owned and Chinese-built despite Communist President Xi Jinping’s trade sanctions against Australia.

‘Country of origin to me today isn’t as important as the core values that the people behind the brand stand for,’ he said.

‘The MG history has always been a value brand, so it’s always been the affordable sports car, that’s how it gained its popularity.

‘Realistically, the core values of MG haven’t changed – for me, we’ve held on to that identity.’
