Larry Emdur reveals measly pay he received for The Castle cameo

Larry Emdur has spilled on the shockingly low pay he received for appearing in cult Aussie classic The Castle.

the Morning Show presenter, 57, made a small cameo as himself hosting The Price Is Right in the 1997 comedy, during a scene where Tracey (played by actress Sophie Lee) appears on the game show.

“45,000 worth of prizes, the luggage needs to be more than $640, it needs to be less than $740 … Go!” he is heard saying as Dale Kerrigan (Stephen Curry) narrates the family’s highlights over the years.

The Seven host’s appearance was small but iconic – but, as he told news.com.au podcast I’ve Got News For Youhe only pocketed a tiny amount for it.

“It was only like $123 or something like that, because it was just going to be a little indie film, no one had any idea where that was going,” Emdur explained to host Andrew Bucklow.

“They came in and shot the thing, we did it in a commercial break, and then they sent me a poster and a check for $123 dollars. (The Castle) went on to make tens of millions of dollars.”

During his interview with IGNFYEmdue also opened up about his beef with “sneaky” Karl Stefanovic over former Seven host Lisa Wilkinson.

He explained that plans were in place for then-Weekend Sunrise host Wilkinson to become his co-host, but that Stefanovic had instead lured her over to the Today Show.

“In the weeks after that audition, I introduced Lisa to Karl Stefanovic at the Logies,” Emdur revealed.

“And then he went about his sneaky little ways, which he does, and he somehow dragged Lisa over to the Today show.”

However, Emdur explained that there were no hard feelings, as it was the “right move” for Wilkinson.

“I think Lisa had different things to do other than The Morning Show at the time, so it was a reasonable move and actually made sense, so we went back to audition a few more people and eventually landed with Kylie (Gillies) on the couch. , which was just a magnificent result.”

The situation could have made for some awkward run-ins over the years, but instead, Emdur said he and Wilkinson now “laugh about it all the time.”

It’s not the only juicy Logies-related incident revealed by Emdur in the podcast – he also lifted the lid on his wild Logies afterparty with friends star Matt LeBlanc in 1998.

According to Emdur, the American actor had been looking “so bored” during the lengthy evening that he’d felt compelled to try and turn his night around.

“I was standing at the bar and in walks Matt LeBlanc with an entourage around him, and he just looked so bored,” Emdur told I’ve Got News For You.

“So I convinced the barman to give me a bottle of Sambucca for Matt, and I went over to him and I said, ‘Hey, do you want a Sambucca? You look so bored’, and he went, ‘Are you Italian?’ and I said, ‘No, does it matter?’ and he went, ‘No, let’s go!’

The result, Emdur explained, was that they ended up drinking “every bottle of Sambucca in Crown Casino” that evening.

“It was a very, very funny night … We were like two very, very naughty little schoolboys,” the TV host said.

He then revealed that LeBlanc had left a note under the door of the hotel room he was sharing with his wife Sylvie, which read: “Dear Sylvie, your husband got me very drunk. Love Matt.”

My Kitchen Rules viewers praise new judge Nigella Lawson: ‘Massive upgrade’

Nigella Lawson has completely charmed viewers with her My Kitchen Rules debut, as fans declared she will “save the series”.

The British home cooking queen, who was earlier announced as Pete Evans’ replacement for the 2022 season, appeared alongside French chef Manu Feildel on Sunday night for the struggling cooking show’s much-anticipated return to screens.

And her star-power could prove to be the winning ingredient to bolster MKR‘s ratings, with viewers rushing to social media to give the 62-year-old their tick of approval.

At one stage during the premiere episode, which saw Victorian father-and-daughter duo Peter and Alice cooking first, Lawson ditched her cutlery to chomp into a lamb cutlet, much to the delight of people watching from home.

Prior to the show airing, Lawson took to Twitter to say she was “excited and nervous in equal measure”, as she urged her followers to tune in with a “glass of wine or mug of tea”.

The 12th season of the Channel 7 cooking show follows a two-year hiatus for MKRwhich suffered declining ratings in 2019 and 2020.

Presumably in a bid to compete with its rival prime-time show, Channel 9’s Married At First Sightthe series was copping criticism for overdoing it on the dramatics and straying from its humble roots.

In an effort to reinvigorate the franchise, the network parted ways with original Judge Evans following a slew of controversies, and promised the series would be bouncing back to its core values of “real food and real people” in 2022.

Meanwhile Evans, 49, responded to the news of Lawson’s appointment back in April, wishing his “dear mate Manu” the best for the future of the series.

“I wish Channel 7, the crew and my dear mate Manu ️all the very best on their upcoming series,” he wrote on social media at the time.

“I will always cherish the many years we spent together, creating so many wonderful memories.”

It’s understood Lawson will only feature in half of the season, with former MasterChef judge Matt Preston joining Feildel for the back half.

Celebrity chefs Colin Fassnidge and Curtis Stone are also set to return as guest judges.

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s ‘never-ending war’

Next month will mark the six-year anniversary of Angelina Jolie shocking the world by filing for divorce from Brad Pitt.

But despite being declared legally single in 2019, the exes are still no closer to reaching a custody agreement for their children – even as they reach college age.

“It appears that Angelina is determined that Brad should never get 50/50 custody,” one source familiar with the legal battle told Page Six. “And there are some who say that she won’t rest until the kids are legally adults, so Brad will never have shared custody.”

The couple have six children together: Maddox, 21, Pax, 18, Zahara, 17, Shiloh, 16, and twins Knox and Vivienne, both 14.

It’s just the latest except in a seemingly never-ending war.

French estate center of bitter war

“Angelina makes a constant stream of attacks on Brad. And she deliberately sold her disputed share of their vineyard to a buyer she knew he didn’t want,” a friend of Pitt claimed.

Pitt has been seen on red carpets around the world recently for the premiere of his latest movie Bullet Trainbut he apparently can’t escape the long reach of his ex-wife.

In legal papers in June, Pitt, 58, claimed that Jolie, 47, intentionally “sought to inflict harm on” him by selling her interests of the Chateau Miraval wine brand to Russian businessman Yuri Shefler, the founder of Stoli Vodka.

Pitt said they had agreed to never sell their respective shares without the other’s permission. He also asked for a trial by jury.

“It’s his baby. He’s very proud of it and he’s put all of the revenue from the business into the vineyard and Miraval studios,” said a Hollywood friend, noting that the Correns, France, vineyard estate also houses a recording studio.

“Unfortunately, Angelina sold her part, which was contrary to their agreement, to somebody they had both turned down before,” the friend added, as Pitt had previously said no to a deal with Stoli.

And then there was the recent news that lawyers for Jolie sent process servers to the SAG Awards in February, hoping to catch Pitt off-guard with a subpoena for Miraval matters at the event. (He did not attend.) Sources claim this was another example of Jolie trying to create a public scene to exacerbate the situation.

In April, Page Six reported that Jolie had allegedly unleashed “a desperate fishing expedition” by suing the FBI under the name “Jane Doe” to find more about its investigation into an alleged 2016 private-jet altercation incident involving Pitt and their son Maddox, and why FBI agents didn ‘t charge the actor.

An anonymous call was made to authorities, which triggered the FBI investigation, but the case was closed on November 22, 2016, with no charges of wrongdoing. Days later, Jolie filed for divorce.

Dispute over psychologist

Page Six is also told that things became tense earlier this year when Pitt’s legal team believed that Jolie’s lawyers attempted to have their court-approved child psychologist sanctioned by the California Attorney-General’s office based on her perception that the doctor had sided with Pitt, concluding that Pitt should have 50/50 custody of the children.

Psychologist Stan Katz, who spoke to the Jolie-Pitt minor children for the custody case, is currently under a non-criminal investigation by the California Attorney-General’s office, per a filing submitted to the Superior Court of California and seen by Page Six.

Dr Katz is not believed to have had any complaints made about him in his 30-year career.

However, another insider with knowledge of the issues had stressed that Jolie had nothing to do with the investigation.

Meanwhile, one highly placed legal insider told Page Six that only one or both of the parties involved in the case could make a complaint. A friend of Pitt’s confirmed it was not him.

The filing noted that: “The Court finds the Petitioner (Jolie) has filed a notice of non-opposition and Respondent (Pitt) has taken no position.”

Dr Katz declined to comment. Page Six also contacted the AG’s office. The scope of the investigation is not known, and it’s unclear whether the investigation is still ongoing.

‘It was a technicality’

After years of back and forth, Pitt was granted joint custody of his minor children in May 2021.

Judge John Ouderkirk however, was subsequently disqualified from the case for not sufficiently disclosing business relationships with Pitt’s lawyers – so it was back to square one for the custody case.

Another source familiar with the case said: “Everything is at a standstill. Last year was a real rollercoaster. Brad was given 50/50 custody in a lengthy, detailed judicial decision. Then the appellate court vacated the decision based on something having nothing to do with the substance of the case.

“It was an internal dispute between the judges and the private judges in California, nothing to do with the custody agreement. It was a technicality. It’s unclear where things stand right now.”

Meanwhile, Pitt is not believed to be close to his and Jolie’s oldest child, they are Maddox, who turned 21 on Friday.

Asked how often the actor gets to see the other children, the source familiar with the case said: “He gets to see them, but he still doesn’t have 50/50. But he’s trying to ride it out.

Both Jolie and Pitt’s reps were unavailable for comment.

Jolie-Pitt brood grows up

The former couple have six children. Maddox currently studies biochemistry at Yonsei University in Seoul, South Korea. Pax, 18, is believed to be continuing with his schooling from him, and 17-year-old Zahara is about to begin college.

Jolie announced in an Instagram post that Zahara will be attending the historically black Spelman College in Atlanta this year.

“Zahara with her Spelman sisters!” the Eternals star captioned an image of her daughter surrounded by fellow students.

Daughter Shiloh, 16, showed off her hip-hop dance moves back in June in a now-viral clip set to Doja Cat’s Vegas.

Pitt joked about it at the Bullet Train premiere: “I don’t know where she got it from. I’m Mr Two-Left-Feet here.” He also said that Zahara’s acceptance of her to college “brings a tear to the eye”.

It’s a new side of the Oscar winner, who also shares 14-year-old twins Vivienne and Knox with Jolie, as he has previously been so protective about his kids he rarely talked about them.

Pitt has been on the promo trail for Bullet Traintraveling to Paris, Berlin and London over the past month.

In Germany, the actor hit the red carpet wearing a skirt that he co-designed with Haans Nicolas Mott.

When asked why he wore the skirt, Pitt told Variety: “I don’t know! We’re all going to die, so let’s mess it up.”

The Hollywood friend said the answer is simple: “Brad travels regularly, but this was his first major event for a few years and he had a lot of fun with it.”

But “fun” doesn’t mean romance right now. Pitt is “not currently dating anyone,” said the Hollywood friend. “He’s gone on dates over the past couple of years, but he’s not dating anyone currently.”

Instead, Pitt is spending time on his art, architecture and hanging out with friends. He will appear in the Damien Chazelle-directed drama Babylon with Margot Robbie and Olivia Wilde, which opens on Christmas Day.

“He’s in a good place,” said the Hollywood friend. “He had a good break in Europe. He seems refreshed and relaxed.”

This story originally appeared on Page Six and is republished here with permission

She said ‘he was surrounded by family as he transcended peacefully,’ adding, ‘We could never mourn such an amazing man. He would HATE any crying done in his name by him.

His character Calvin was the proprietor of a helicopter business called Island Hoppers. He had previously worked on the film Terminal Island with Selleck, who recommended him for the part.

Mosley said his agent told him, ‘It’s starring this guy Tom Selleck. Tom Selleck has made about five pilot shows … and none of them have sold. So here’s what you do, Roger: Sign up for the show, go over to Hawaii, they’ll treat you good for the 20 days it will take to shoot the [pilot], you’ll get a lot of money, and then you come home. A show with Tom Selleck always fails, and you’ll be fine.’

Mosley added, ‘Well, eight-and-a-half years later …’

Mosley appeared on two episodes of the reboot of the series playing a character named John Booky.

New health fears for Queen, 96, as her traditional welcome to Balmoral Castle ‘is axed

New health fears for Queen, 96, as her traditional welcome to Balmoral Castle ‘is axed and replaced with small, private event’

  • Queen arrived at Balmoral in late July and had been planning to attend the event
  • But the event was yesterday canceled and replaced with a smaller gathering
  • Sources suggest the late alteration is ‘a sign of things to come’ for Her Majesty
  • But Buckingham Palace has played down growing concerns over her health

The Queen has ‘cancelled her traditional welcome to Balmoral Castle’ and will instead host a ‘small, private event’ amid growing concerns about her health.

The monarch, 96, arrived at the Aberdeenshire estate in late July and had been planning to attend the event up until just a few days ago.

But the event was yesterday canceled and replaced with the smaller gathering, marking the first time, aside from the pandemic, that she will not take part in the small ceremony outside the Castle gates.

A royal source told The Mirror: ‘The traditional welcome to Balmoral is normally cemented in the Queen’s calendar and something Her Majesty really enjoys, being able to greet locals who travel to see her.

‘It’s a bitter disappointment the ceremony will not take place in its traditional form.’

Other sources said the alteration was ‘a sign of things to come’ amid Her Majesty’s episodic mobility problems.

But Buckingham Palace has played down concerns over her health, instead saying the private event was ‘in line with adapting Her Majesty’s schedule for her comfort’.

Last year, the Queen looked radiant in a pink ensemble as she inspected a Guard of Honor and met The Royal Regiment of Scotland’s Mascot, Shetland Pony Lance Corporal Cruachan IV.

The monarch typically remains at Balmoral until early October, with the ceremony formally marking the start of her stay.

But this year, she will attend a private event on lawns within the castle’s grounds.

The Queen will inspect troops as normal, but no television camera, photographers or reporters will be present at the event.

It comes as the monarch plans to interrupt her Scottish holiday to travel to England and invite her 15th Prime Minister to form a government, The Mail on Sunday understands.

Boris Johnson has announced he will step down on September 6, when he will formally tender his resignation to the Queen.

The Monarch will then ‘invite’ the winning Tory candidate to become Prime Minister and announce their name.

They are expected to meet the Queen to officially accept the invitation.

The Queen does not usually return from her Balmoral break until early October but is believed to have told aides she will make an exception this year and travel to London.

A source said: ‘Her Majesty does not expect the new Prime Minister to travel to Scotland, so the plan is that the Queen will travel down to see them.

Balmoral is understood to be a favorite stay for Her Majesty, who welcomes her family to the castle throughout the summer months.

She has been staying at Craigowan Lodge since departing Windsor Castle for Scotland on July 21.

It comes after a lorry with furniture was pictured outside Balmoral on Saturday after bringing furniture from Windsor.

Balmoral has had a number of adaptations in recent years, including Craigowan Lodge being fitted with a wheelchair-friendly lift last year.

A new security gate, a state-of-the-art intercom system and a string of new CCTV cameras were also installed.

Meghan Markle Spotify podcast warning over ‘kiss of death’ for Duke and Duchess of Sussex | Royal | News

The Duchess of Sussex is expected to release her first podcast produced exclusively for Spotify this year. The streaming giant announced in March Meghan’s first audio program would be titled Archetypes.

Spotify said the podcast would be released this summer, without specifying a date.

However, more than four months after the podcast’s trailer sparked a frenzy, Meghan has not yet released the final product.

Brand and reputation management expert Eric Schiffer believes the wait is due to the fact the Duke and Duchess want to make sure they are only releasing products of great quality.

To get this first release wrong, the California-based commentator said, could endanger their careers in entertainment.

Mr Schiffer does not believe the wait is putting off Meghan’s fans who will continue to be eager to listen to Archetypes whenever she is ready to release it.

Rather, I have suggested, it’s wise for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s future with Spotify if they take time to polish their products.

He told Express.co.uk: “I imagine they are working on making sure that it’s a product of excellence so that it’s not a threat to the survival of their partnership [with Spotify] and it won’t be the kiss of death of their entertainment career.

“They are focusing on quality right now.”

He continued: “If you try to get a career in entertainment and your shows are bombing, that doesn’t help you.

“Nor does it help the partnership with Spotify.”

Mr Schiffer added Meghan’ will have many people analyzing every single detail of her podcast given her popularity across the globe.

He added: “They are going to be careful and making sure that it is done with quality.

DON’T MISS

“Her base will be there when it’s out.”

Meghan and Harry announced to have signed a multi-year deal with Spotify in late 2020.

This partnership will see the pair produce content, through their audio-first production company Archewell Audio, “aimed to uplift and entertain audiences around the world” and “spotlight diverse perspectives and voices.”

The Sussexes have so far released only a special holiday episode at the end of December two years ago, during which they reflected on the year just passed.

They also had an array of celebrity guests, including Sir Elton John, sharing their stories and thoughts.

The end of the episode also featured Archie Harrison, the Sussexes’ son, wishing listeners a happy new year.

As announced in the spring, Archetypes will “investigate the labels that try to hold women back” and feature historians and experts to “uncover the origin of these stereotypes and have uncensored conversations with women who know all too well how these typecasts shape narratives.”

The one-minute trailer released in March featured the Duchess’ voice.

After playing some disparaging words and labels that have been historically used to address women, Meghan can be heard saying: “This is how we talk about women, the words that raise our girls, and how the media reflects women back to us.

“But where do these stereotypes come from? And how do they keep showing up and defining our lives?”

She added: “I’m Meghan and this is Archetypes — the podcast where we dissect, explore, and subvert the labels that try to hold women back.

“I’ll have conversations with women who know all too well how these typecasts shape our narratives. And I’ll talk to historians to understand how we even got here in the first place.”

In 2020, Meghan and Harry also signed a deal with Netflix and the Duke is currently working at the docu-series Heart of Invictus.

Netflix Talks “Sandman” Aspect Ratio Confusion

Netflix Talks Sandman Aspect Ratio Confusion
Netflix

Some tuning into Netflix’s highly-anticipated series adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s comic magnum opus “The Sandman” have reportedly been confused over some creative choices with the show’s aspect ratio.

The series delves into fantasy realms where dreams hold sway, and the makers of the series play with that by using slightly distorted cinematography at times. The result makes the cast seem to have slightly elongated faces and gives locations a surreal stretched look.

Some viewers, however, have mistaken it for a technical issue with Netflix’s stream. There’s been enough confusion that a spokesperson for Netflix has issued a statement (via Variety) having to confirm the image distortion is a deliberate creative choice: “As you’ll note many of the environments are surreal in the series, and we often say it’s quite what a dream would feel like.”

The statement comes as reviews for the series have been very good, with criticisms mostly being about the series being possibly too slavishly loyal to the comic at the cost of some not quite gelling with the material’s inherent strangeness.

“The Sandman” is currently streaming worldwide on Netflix.

Response Issued To Franco-Castro Casting

Response Issued To Franco Castro Casting
HBO

The recent news of the hiring of James Franco to play the late Cuban leader Fidel Castro in the upcoming feature “Alina of Cuba” has generated some backlash.

Now Alina Fernandez, the daughter of Castro and the subject of the film, has discussed the casting and seems to have no issue with Franco in the role.

She explains to Deadline that: “James Franco has an obvious physical resemblance with Fidel Castro, besides his skills and charisma”. She also says: “the project is almost entirely Latino, both in front and behind the camera” with Franco being an obvious exception.

The film also stars Ana Villafane as Alina and Mia Maestro as her mother, but the Franco casting is what’s being talked about. Actor John Leguizamo criticized the casting recently, saying on Instagram: “How is this still going on?… I don’t got a [problem] with Franco but he ain’t Latino!”

Added to that are the complications surrounding allegations against Franco, and the casting news overshadowing the film as Castro is not the focal point.

Miguel Bardem helms the movie about the Cuban exile-turned-social advocate Fernandez.

Game Of Thrones Was Full Of Badass Ladies, But George RR Martin Explains Why The Kingdoms In His Books Were Kind Of Against ‘Em

game of Thrones‘ Westeros wasn’t a great place for anybody to live during the eight seasons of the show, and the plethora of badass female characters didn’t mean that kingdoms embraced women as leaders or warriors, with some exceptions. House of the Dragon will take viewers back to Westeros in a completely different era, but some things remain the same. A Song of Ice and Fire and Fire&Blood author George RR Martin explained why the kingdoms in his fictional world of Westeros weren’t too keen on women getting ahead.

House of the Dragon will face the issue of women having (or not having) power head-on, as it is rooted in a chaotic time for the Targaryen family in which King Viserys I intends to give his daughter Princess Rhaenyra the throne. Others believe Viserys’ brother, Daemon, should rule, as a woman had never sat on the Iron Throne at that point. George RR Martin spoke during the show’s panel at San Diego Comic-Con about that and noted that his books by him are not any more unkind to women than real-life history was:

I get inspiration from history, and then I take elements from history and I turn it up to 11. Games of Thrones is, as many people have observed, based very loosely on the War of the Roses. [House of the Dragon] is based on an earlier period in history called the Anarchy. I don’t think Westeros is particularly more anti-woman or more misogynistic than real life and what we call history.
