AFL: ‘Disgusting’: Melbourne Demons star Christian Petracca slams racist targeting of Kysaiah Pickett

Christian Petracca has slammed the racial targeting of Melbourne teammate Kysaiah Pickett on social media as “disgusting” as the AFL community rallies around him.

Third-year forward Pickett, known as ‘Kozzy’, kicked the match-winning goal in thrilling fashion for the Demons with 11 seconds left to pinch victory from Carlton on Saturday night.

The brilliant goal sparked wild celebrations from Melbourne and left a series of stony-faced Blues defenders to rue a wasted opportunity to lock in their finals berth.

But Pickett’s exhilarating moment was soured when an Instagram user racially vilified him, marking the second time in as many seasons the young Demon has been abused on social media.

Coach Simon Goodwin revealed in August last year that Pickett was “visibly distressed” after the previous occasion, with retired AFL champion Eddie Betts calling for clubs to unite to stamp out racism.

Melbourne is working with the AFL’s integrity department to try to identify the social media user responsible for the comments.

Petracca said people believed there were no consequences for their social media actions and could “hide behind their phone and write what they want”.

“It is absolutely disgusting,” the 2021 Norm Smith medalist told KIIS 101.1’s Jase and Lauren on Monday.

“It is just so unfair for a player who is an absolute freak. He is 21 years old, he is an Indigenous player.

“Indigenous players bring so much to the game – so much entertainment, flair, excitement and passion and they put bums on seats.

“To do that (racially vilify him) is just really frustrating, because … as much as clubs can put these statements out, it is so hard to control, because these days they are just keyboard warriors.”

Petracca said the long-term solution to this behavior was greater education.

“The AFL and all the clubs are really quick to respond to all that stuff – it’s just Instagram, and people make fake accounts,” he said.

“They are just trolls, it’s really disgusting and they don’t understand the human side of it.

“(We saw what happened) last year with the Eddie Betts stuff, and it’s all about education around footy clubs and showing us the history of Indigenous lands and what they’ve gone through.”

The Demons issued a statement on Sunday morning condemning the social media comments.

“Last night a Melbourne player was again subjected to racism on social media,” the statement read.

“This sort of behavior is abhorrent and needs to stop. It is saddening, angering and unacceptable that this behavior continues to occur.

“It is important that we, as a football community, call this behavior out and hold these individuals to account.”

A woman has shared her heartbreak after discovering that her husband of 25 years and the father of her children has a whole other life.

The devastated lady, who shares three children with the man she thought was the love of her life, said she’d been left “broken” by his deceit and lies.

Taking to Reddit in an anonymous post, she opened up about his betrayal and how she has coped since being delivered the blow, The Sun reports.

She explained: “My husband has a second family. The ultimate cliche has happened in my life and I’m absolutely broken.

“My husband, my rock, has been having an affair for over 17 years. We have been married for 25 years.

“We have three beautiful children, two in college and one who still lives at home – but turns out he’s had another set this whole time.”

The woman then shared further details, as she revealed that her other half is an insurance broker and therefore often travels with work, spending one week on and one week off at home.

She explained: “When I searched my husband’s first name, another profile with another last name popped up, through that profile were the links to his fiancee and other kids.

“My husband is currently with said family and I know it’s him because his most recent post is a photo of him and that other family eating dinner.

“Among those photos were photos of him kissing the girl and him being fatherly with the kids who look nearly identical to my husband.”

The anonymous woman then said she is unsure how she will confront him, but “almost every part” of her “wants to scream in his face and reprimand him for ruining” her life.

Yet, she also admitted that as “her heart is in shambles” and that a different part of her wants to pretend she never saw so as not to disturb their “peaceful” family life.

She concluded: “I don’t know what to do anymore. I can’t be in the home where we’ve raised our kids, where we’ve spent every Christmas for the last 26 years.“ And where I’ve been alone on New Years’, taking care of our babies while he “ works”. I just can’t.

“I want to leave a note for him too, to hurt him like he’s hurt me, but I don’t think that’s possible. I don’t know how I’ll ever face him again.”

LinkedIn Decides to ‘Lean Into’ Visual Content With New Tools

LinkedIn has introduced new tools for people looking to share photos and videos on its platform.

That might seem like a strange announcement from a company dedicated to helping people share a semi-public version of their resume, form professional relationships, and look for jobs. But it turns out LinkedIn users have started to share more photos and videos on the platform.

The company says it’s seen a 20% year-over-year increase to “people adding visual content in their posts on LinkedIn.” So now it’s rolling out new features “to make it even easier to create visual content that helps you stand out and inspire your professional community.” (Emphasis theirs.)

The first of those features: clickable links in photos and videos. These links are displayed as buttons that LinkedIn users can resize and reposition to fit the composition of their “visual content,” thereby giving viewers one-click access to a “website, an upcoming event, recent newsletter, or other resources.”

LinkedIn has also created a variety of templates people can use to “easily create visually engaging content” by adorning their posts with their choice from “dozens of customizable backgrounds and fonts.” (Which is similar to the custom backgrounds Facebook allows people to use with posts on that platform.)

Both of those features are supposed to roll out “over the coming weeks.”

LinkedIn is also testing another feature, “carousels,” that it describes as “a new content format that allows you to mix images and videos to help your community learn in a digestible way.” The company says it’ll be “experimenting with carousels to see how members engage with it over the coming months.”

Who’s Afraid of a Facebook Hack? A Lot of People, Apparently

Are you worried about your social media accounts getting hacked? You aren’t alone. That fear seems to be growing, as a survey from NordVPN found that 76% of respondents are more concerned about the possibility than they were the previous year.

Facebook is the platform that people worry about the most, with 32% of respondents fearing their account will be hacked. This makes sense, after years of high-profile security breaches and the reality that you may never get your account back after a breach. We previously reported that millennials are more concerned about Facebook breaches than bank account hacks.

infographic covering American concerns about social media hacks

After Facebook, Americans worry about their TikTok accounts the most, with 26% of respondents concerned about a hack. Americans using other social media platforms are less concerned: only 21% of Snapchat users worry about a hack, followed by Instagram (20%), Twitter (19%), and YouTube (18%).

Think your accounts are safe? Eighty-nine percent of survey respondents know someone who has been compromised, 47% know up to five people, 27% know up to 10 people, and 15% know more than 10 people.

About 37% of Americans say they’ve been the victim of a hack themselves. The most commonly breached app is, of course, Facebook, followed by Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, and TikTok.

BRAZILIAN STAR LINKED WITH PL MOVE AFTER MESSY EXIT DUE TO DEATH THREATS

Former Chelsea and Arsenal midfielder Willian quit Corinthians on Saturday (AEST) following the Brazilians’ Copa Libertadores elimination against domestic rivals Flamengo, after claiming he and his family received death threats on social media.

“Willian asked us for his (contract) termination. We are sad not to have him any more and also because it didn’t go the way we expected. But we have to keep those here that are happy,” said club president Duilio Monteiro Alves.

It was only a year ago that the 34-year-old only rejoined the club where he made his professional debut in 2006. Local media have linked him with a move to promoted English Premier League side Fulham.

The return to Corinthians in Sao Paulo quickly turned sour for Willian both on the pitch where he scored one goal in 45 matches, and off it.

“Whenever Corinthians lost and I didn’t play well, my family received threats and insults on social media. My wife, my children, recently they also started attacking my father, my sister,” Willian told the Globo Esporte website.

“I didn’t play as well as I expected but I was never a player who scored 20 or 30 goals a season,” he told ESPN Brasil on Wednesday.

Willian, who also played for Shakhtar Donetsk in Ukraine and Russians Anzhi Makhachkala, leaves the club three days after they were eliminated from the Copa Libertadores quarter-finals by Flamengo, 3-0 on aggregate

TUCHEL ‘VERY, VERY CLOSE’ WITH TOP TRANSFER TARGET

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel said he will always have a “close bond” with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as speculation links the Barcelona forward with a move to Stamford Bridge.

The Blues are looking to reinforce their forward line after the departures of Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner.

Aubameyang, who only joined Barcelona in January, would appear to fit the bill with both Premier League experience from four years at Arsenal and the time he spent under Tuchel at Borussia Dortmund.

The Gabon international scored 79 goals in 95 appearances under Tuchel.

“This is totally separate from anything that is happening now, but I enjoyed a lot working with Auba while I was at Dortmund,” said Tuchel on Friday at his pre-match press conference ahead of Sunday’s visit of Tottenham.

“Some players stay your players because you were very, very close, and Auba is one of those players.

“There was always straight away this close bond. They always stay your players in a way.”

A behind-the-scenes documentary on Arsenal’s 2021/22 season has revealed the scale of disciplinary breaches that saw Mikel Arteta freeze Aubameyang out of the Gunners’ first-team squad.

However, Tuchel said “there was never an issue” with Aubameyang’s discipline during their time in Germany.

RED DEVILS BOSS QUASHES TALK OF STAR WINGER’S SHOCK EXIT

Erik ten Hag expects Marcus Rashford to remain at Manchester United despite rumors this week that Paris St Germain have made contact with the forward’s representatives.

Rashford’s form dipped dramatically last season as he scored just four goals in 25 Premier League games, which has led to him being dropped from the England squad just months before the World Cup.

The 24-year-old, who has one year left on his contract with a club option for a further year, has twice scored in wins against PSG in the Champions League at the Parc des Princes.

But Ten Hag said he is too important to lose despite his struggle for form, which continued in a 2-1 defeat at home to Brighton in the Dutch coach’s first match in charge last weekend.

“He’s really important,” Ten Hag said. “You have seen from the first day I’m here, I’m really happy with him, I don’t want to lose him.

“He’s definitely in our plans at Manchester United.”

St Kilda Saints loss to Brisbane Lions, missed opportunities, goalkicking inaccuracy, Max King, reactions, response, commentary, social media, fallout, latest

St Kilda has blown a golden opportunity at the wrong time, falling to Brisbane by 15 points in game there to be won late with the Saints’ season on all the line to all but end their final hopes.

Brett Ratten’s side recovered from a slow start to come charging back into the game in the second half, but wasn’t able to convert its opportunities including a wasteful 0.5 kicking display from Max King.

Saints legend Nick Riewoldt said he hoped the club wouldn’t put all the onus on its goalkicking inaccuracy in the second half, lamenting its lackluster start to the contest.

“They had the game where they wanted it… but I hope it doesn’t turn into a ‘we just didn’t take our opportunities’, conversation. Because early in the contest when the game was there to be won, they weren’t necessarily up for it,” he said on Fox Footy post-match.

The Saints’ final hopes were dealt a massive blow (Photo by Darrian Traynor/Getty Images)Source: FOX SPORTS

“Then when it gets desperate you take it on. I hope it’s a really learning experience this game for St Kilda. When they played with a bit of desperation, especially with the footy, then they put the Lions under pressure and looked like a finals team.

“If you’re looking at it with a narrow lens, you would say they didn’t take their opportunities. Max King was bit of a liability in front of goal, he didn’t look he wanted the ball in the end, so he’ll be really disappointed that he couldn’t convert.”

St Kilda ended up winning the disposal count (327-310) and inside 50s (50-49), but converted 9.12 of its shots at goal (43 per cent) compared to Brisbane’s 12.9 (57 per cent), with Cam Rayner the match winner for the Lions with three of his four goals in the last term.

Demons legend Garry Lyon was much more encouraged by St Kilda’s style when it had more urgency and played faster and direct.

“The competitive, go slow style they’ve been playing has been left behind largely … that’s the learnings I would hope they get from it, because when they went with some stuff that looked unscripted, that’s when they looked most dangerous,” he said.

It’ll likely go down as another wasted season for the 11-10 Saints despite such a promising 5-1 start to 2022 to emerge as a premiership dark horse as Ratten was rewarded with a contract extension.

Saint in hot water over bump? | 00:41

But they’ve now won just three of their last 10 matches and would need nearly everything to go right by the way of other results for them to make finals from here including beating an in-form Swans outfit next weekend at Marvel Stadium.

Former Hawthorn sharpshooter Ben Dixon was however still giving St Kilda hope to finish in the top eight and was left unconvinced by Brisbane’s performance, calling it the “sweep escape”.

“I think Brisbane was given that game, they didn’t win it… if Richmond and Carlton lose they’ve (the Saints) still got a heartbeat. I’m giving them hope,” he said on Fox Footy Live.

But St Kilda champion Nick Dal Santo doesn’t believe his former side is currently playing a good enough brand to hold up in September.

“You want your finals series to be teams that are currently in form or capable of causing an upset from the bottom of the top eight,” he said.

“The form that the Saints have played of recent, no, I don’t think their in the best eight teams in the comp right now.”

Others responded on social media to the Saints’ blown opportunity.

Westlife’s Brian McFadden unrecognizable after bee sting

A pop legend has shown off the shocking reaction he’s had to a bee sting.

Westlife singer Brian McFadden, 42, took to social media to show off the horrific aftermath of the sting, The Sun reports.

Lying in his hospital bed, Brian could be seen with a very swollen face and lips, and he wrote to his fans: “Stung by a bee and got an allergic reaction!! Owning that look! Free Botox and fillers!!!!!”

He could be seen in his hospital bed playfully singing ‘Sexy and I Know It’ by LMFAO.

Concerned fans and friends took to the comments to wish Brian a speedy recovery, with one person joking: “Looking swell,” and another said: “Omgggg feel better x”

A third person penned: “That’s awful hope you feel better soon! at least you’ve kept your sense of humor.”

Brian also shared separate photos of the timeline of his sting, from minor swelling to ending up in the hands of doctors.

He wrote: “The timeline of the sting to reaction. Still goin, ”and he showed how quickly the swelling came about, with his lips getting bigger and bigger and his eyes shrinking.

In the final snap, Brian can be seen with his thumbs up while gazing at the camera with a swollen face.

Brian shares children Molly Marie, 20, and 19-year-old Lilly-Sue McFadden with Kerry Katona and he has a daughter named Ruby Jean with his wife Danielle Parkinson.

He recently revealed that he missed out on a lot with his two daughters – and fought with his ex Kerry.

Opening up to Closer magazine, the Irish singer confessed that he regrets “not being there as much for his two eldest children”.

Brian said: “I was only a kid myself when I had Molly and Lilly, and I was at the height of my career in Westlife then – we were literally working 365 days a year, and there was no FaceTime so I couldn’t speak to the kids.

“I could only see them when I came home.

“So it was a lot harder and I missed out on a lot of the stuff that I would have loved to have seen with the girls.”

Luckily Brian and Kerry now have a better relationship, and the fact that the girls are older makes it easier to co-parent.

He added: “It’s very easy to co-parent now out children aren’t kids anymore. It was obviously a lot more difficult when they were growing up.”

Tommy Lee’s X-rated Instagram photo shocks fans

Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee has dropped jaws across the globe with an extremely revealing Instagram post.

The 59-year-old posted a photo of himself rocking out with his, ahem, private parts out on Thursday, shocking his 1.4 million followers and giving the social media censors something to do (though at the time of writing, the post was still up).

“Ooooopppsss,” Lee’s caption read.

Instagram has a strict anti-nudity policy.

Lee has never been too shy about letting it all hang out, previously appearing in a sex tape with Pamela Anderson while driving.

His latest post attracted immediate attention from the public and celebrities.

“Does the camera add 5 pounds?” comedian Ryan Sickler commented.

“OH MY GOD,” fellow comedian Brittany Furlan said.

Machine Gun Kelly’s drummer, Rook, sounded the most impressed, commenting: “I’M F****N DYING🤣🤣🤣🤣.”

And TikTok content creator Daniel Mac provided the wittiest double understanding, wondering: “How long will this stay up?”

In a follow-up post, Lee shared an image of an elephant face-to-face with a naked man, with the elephant asking: “How do you breathe through that little thing?”

One of the more succinct comments on that post read simply: “Go to sleep bro.”

At his band’s height in the 1980s, the famed drummer was known for sleeping with groupies, drugging heroically and swallowing small light bulbs for kicks.

He made headlines in June after returning to the stage with broken ribs.

Even though the iconic drummer only lasted five songs into the band’s hotly anticipated reunion kick-off tour at Atlanta, Georgia, it was actually five more songs than his doctor ordered.

In true Lee fashion, the musician ignored the doctor’s advice and went ahead with his performance during the band’s opening night alongside Def Leppard, Poison, and Joan Jett & The Blackhearts.

After soldiering on through five tracks on the drums, Lee’s pain was too much for him to handle.

“Man y’all ain’t gonna believe this s**t,” he wrote on social media ahead of the gig. “I broke four f***ing ribs!”

“But I’ve been resting and healing and even though the doctor tells me I shouldn’t play at all, you know I’m stubborn and I’ll beast through the pain every show for as many songs as I can.”

Lee revealed he had Black Sabbath and Ozzy Osbourne’s drummer Tommy Clufetos save the show until he’s “back at 100 per cent.”

“We’ve all been waiting years for this moment and there’s no way I’m missing this! On with the show,” Lee added.
