How your personality could be stopping you from losing weight

How your personality could be stopping you from losing weight – so which of the six types do you fit into?

  • Scientists say your personality type could be preventing you from losing weight
  • There are 6 groups: cravers, thinkers, socialisers, pleasers, foodies and battlers
  • Australian expert Dr Emily Brindal says we must tailor our approach to our type
  • She found the two most common types of dieters are thinkers and battlers

Scientists believe they have discovered the secret to losing weight – and it all comes down to personality.

Experts from Australia’s leading scientific agency CSIRO claim humans fit into six main personality types which are each suited to a different form of diet.

The most common types of dieters are ‘thinkers’ and ‘battlers’, according to a groundbreaking new CSIRO study, which says understanding which category you fall into could be the key to maintaining a healthy weight and the body of your dreams.

Accounting for 14.1 percent of 254,000 participants, ‘thinkers’ are motivated, analytical people with clear goals and ambitions for the future.

The six diet personality types

1. Thinkers: Motivated, analytical and goal-oriented people who are sensitive to negative feedback. Stress and anxiety can derail their diet.

2. Battlers: Prone to stress, anxiety and temptation to make poor food choices. Require strategies to help break the cycle.

3. Cravers: Have the highest BMI of all diet types and are those most likely to experience overwhelming cravings that lead to binge eating.

4. Pleasers: Likeable, friendly people who are sensitive to criticism. Need to surround themselves with positive reinforcement.

5. Foodies: Passionate about everything related to food. Eats the most balanced diet of all personality types.

6. Socialisers: Require flexibility in their diet to stop restrictions stifling the fun of occasions. Otherwise, they will fall off the wagon.

  • Battler 354 votes
  • crayon 348 votes
  • pleaser 233 votes
  • foodies 168 votes
  • Socializing 71 votes

The report claims they are sensitive to negative feedback that can lead to stress or anxiety, which is the primary cause of derailing their diet.

Coming a close second with 12.8 percent of respondents are ‘battlers’, who are prone to stress, anxiety and temptation to make poor food choices.

As a result, the study says battlers need strategies that help them to break the cycle if they want to lose weight and keep it off.

The four other diet types identified in the report are ‘cravers’, ‘pleasers’, ‘foodies’ and ‘socialisers’.

‘Cravers’ have the highest body mass index, according to the study, and are those most likely to experience overwhelming food cravings that may lead to binge eating.

Meanwhile it says ‘pleasers’ are likeable, friendly people who may be sensitive to social comparisons and criticism, which means it’s important for them to surround themselves with positive reinforcement.

‘Socialisers’ are those who need flexibility to stop dietary restrictions from stifling social events or ‘killing the mood’ of an occasion, according to the report.

Finally ‘foodies’ are passionate about everything to do with food, including preparing and eating good quality meals.

The study found this personality type eats the most balanced diet of the six.

CSIRO research scientist Dr Emily Brindal, lead author of the recent study, says it is crucial for Australians who are trying to lose weight to understand their diet types (stock image)

Olivia Newton-John death: Mystery of Patrick McDermott, one-time lover who vanished at sea

The mysterious fate of Olivia Newton-John’s on-off lover haunted the singer in her later years after he disappeared without trace – amid lurid claims he faked his own death.

Patrick McDermott, 48, went on an overnight fishing trip with 22 other people on June 30, 2005, but vanished before he returned to dry land without anyone noticing.

For almost two decades afterwards, he was rumored to be in hiding in Mexico, on the run from crushing debts.

But repeated manhunts by police, media and private detectives have never been able to find any conclusive proof, despite constant reports of him being spotted.

‘I don’t think I will ever really be at peace with it,’ Newton-John admitted.

‘I think there will always be a question mark.’

She hooked up with McDermott after her 1995 divorce from first husband Matt Lattanzi and began a nine-year on-off romance with the cameraman.

Newton-John was on a promotional tour in Australia when McDermott disappeared and it was another week after the fishing trip until it was noticed he had gone.

Crew on his fishing boat had found the American’s car keys, passport and wallet on board the boat and his car was found parked at the San Pedro marina in Los Angeles.

But still no-one realized he was missing until he failed to appear at a family event on July 6, with police finally called in on July 11.

By then though the trail had gone cold – and investigators turned up nothing.

McDermott had previously been briefly married and fathered a son, and a court had recently ordered him to pay $8,000 in backdated child support.

He had filed for bankruptcy with debts of more than $30,000, prompting speculation he’d faked his death to escape and start anew.

A Coast Guard inquiry admitted they ‘did not find any evidence of criminal action, suicide, accident or hoax in the disappearance of McDermott.’

A three-year probe into the ‘Freedom’ fishing boat found it didn’t carry out any head counts on the day of the trip, causing McDermott’s disappearance to go unnoticed.

Both probes concluded McDermott was likely lost at sea during the night.

But eye witnesses continued to report seeing him around Mexico, where he was said to be living on a yacht off the coast of Sayulita and Acapulco.

TV companies repeatedly sent teams of undercover film crews and private detectives to hunt for him and set up sophisticated online website traps to trace him.

For almost two decades afterwards, he was rumored to be in hiding in Mexico, on the run from crushing debts and said to be living on a yacht off the Mexican coast at Sayulita

One investigator John Nazarian insisted in 2016: ‘It’s rumored he was with a German national. I spoke to people there.

‘The girl he was traveling with was described as having a German accent.

‘To come up with the conclusion that he fell off the boat, and allegedly no-one saw him fall off the boat, is the most preposterous thing I’ve ever heard in my life.’

All the manhunts proved fruitless though and McDermott remained elusive.

Photographs of a man and a woman said to be McDermott and his new lover in Mexico were published in 2017 by New Idea magazine.

But the claims were undone weeks later when a Canadian couple came forward to say they were the people in the photograph.

Olivia Newton-John put the tragedy behind her to get on with life, meeting future husband John Easterling and marrying him at an Inca ritual in Peru in 2008.

But the mystery continued to stalk her in the years that followed, although she had resigned herself to the fact McDermott was most probably dead.

‘He was lost at sea, and nobody really knows what happened,’ Newton-John told 60 Minutes in 2016.

‘It’s human to wonder. Because whenever you go through difficult times, there’s always those concerns.

‘Those are the things in life you have to accept and let go. Of course questions always come up and that’s human.

‘But you know, I live on.’

WHAT HAPPENED TO OLIVIA NEWTON-JOHN’S LOST LOVER?

Theories have raged for almost two decades about the fate of Olivia Newton-John’s on-off lover, movie cameraman Patrick McDermott, 48.

He vanished on an overnight 22-hour fishing trip on the boat ‘Freedom’ out of San Pedro marina in Los Angeles on June 30, 2005.

The boat’s crew found his car keys, wallet and passport on board after all the other passengers disembarked the following day, and his car was found parked nearby.

The crew hadn’t done a headcount so no-one noticed he was missing for another week when he failed to turn up for a family event, with police alerted almost a week later..

Since then speculation has raged about what happened to him, with investigators unable to find any evidence of a crime, suicide, hoax or an accident on the fishing trip.

Officials believe he simply fell overboard and drowned, but conspiracy theorists insist he may have had another boat lined up to meet him offshore.

Others believe he may have planted his belongings on the boat before slipping off, possibly before it even left port, without any noticing.

Private detectives set up a website FindPatrickMcDermott.com to try to trap the missing American into giving himself away, identifying the location of everyone who accessed the site.

A flurry of web traffic from the Sayulita area of Mexico’s West Coast sparked a hunt for him there without any success.

Others say they spotted him living on a yacht off the coast of Acapulco, 1000km further south.

One investigator claimed to have found him and spoken with him in 2009, claiming he just wanted to be left alone but the claim was unsubstantiated.

Another claimed to have categorical proof he was alive and was on the verge of revealing it – but never did.

Over the years there have been at least 20 sightings of him in Mexico and Central America, but many have proven false.

One set of pictures of a couple alleged to be the distinctive looking McDermott – who was half-Korean and adopted at the age of two – turned out to be a Canadian couple.

His ex-wife Yvette Nipar, the mother of their son Chance, begged for the speculation to end for the sake of their child.

She pleaded with Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos to block the publication of a book by private eye Philip Klein about her ex’s disappearance.

‘My son has been through enough emotional torment over this,’ Nipar wrote, branding Klein a ‘serial liar’.

‘He has yet to be able to move on.due to Mr Klein’s continual effort to keep him in the public eye.

‘Let him rest in peace.’

‘They moved to silence and erase’: artists who sued Tate speak out | Art

Three artists who sued the Tate for victimisation, alleging breach of contract and race discrimination, have told of their experiences after it agreed to pay them a six-figure settlement.

The action was taken after the institution told one of the women, who had been commissioned to lead a major year-long programme, that she could not work with Jade Montserrat, an artist who has made allegations of sexual abuse and inappropriate behavior against the art dealer Anthony d’Offay.

D’Offay, who denies all accusations against him, was one of the most powerful figures in the contemporary British art world and a major donor to the Tate, who suspended contact with him in 2018 amid allegations of sexual harassment and inappropriate behavior from three women .

A claim alleging discrimination, victimization and harassment under the Equality Act was issued this year against Tate by Amy Sharrocks, who was to be the lead artist during the 2020-21 season of the celebrated Tate Exchange programme. She was working with Montserrat and Madeleine Collie, a co-curator.

While Tate has not admitted liability, it offered a settlement after the claim was lodged in the central London county court in January. The institution also asked that Sharrocks withdraw a freedom of information request.

Sharrocks told the Guardian how she had been excited to be asked to make a large work across three Tate sites on the theme of love for Tate Modern’s 20th anniversary.

She brought Montserrat on board months earlier to work with her on a water-themed work called A Rumor of Waves, but was shocked when a senior executive contacted her in July 2020 to tell her the artist could not be involved.

Sharrocks said that in conversations with senior Tate figures, Tate’s director, Maria Balshaw, described Montserrat as “hostile” to the institution, citing social media posts in which the artist called for her resignation. Balshaw is said to have claimed that, such was the vitriol generated by Montserrat’s social media posts that it would not be “safe” for her or others to be involved in a collaboration at the Tate, and that she would be sacked as director by the board of trustees.

“Tate’s job is to support artists, not donors,” said Sharrocks. “Tate forgot this when they insisted on excluding Jade from a program she had helped to develop.

“They told me shifting stories about why Jade could not be allowed to take part in a live public program at Tate – they said they would be sued, they would lose their jobs, that it was a legal problem, a safeguarding issue, that their hands were tied.”

She added: “Publicly, Tate claim to be focused on transformation and learning, risk, trust etc, but in practice they moved swiftly to silence, exclude and erase.”

Tate rejected a request by Sharrocks and her co-curators for mediation, and canceled A Rumor of Waves. The broader Tate Exchange programme, which ran at Tate Modern and Tate Liverpool for five years, was subsequently brought to an end in acrimonious circumstances.

While Tate has cited funding cuts, others regard its closure as a step backward, depriving it of a space which allows community groups to shape the Tate’s program and undoing the Tate’s commitment to social justice.

Montserrat accused Tate of being self-serving and relegating audiences and artists.

“From my experience of being in proximity to Tate and its mechanisations my mental and physical health suffered as a consequence,” she added.

Collie said the closure of the Tate Exchange showed that the Tate was not able to nurture complex discussions while prioritizing the safety and wellbeing of artists and contributors.

“We sincerely hope that this settlement is a small step that paves the way for serious reflection on the part of the management and board, and that it might lead to some significant changes to their processes of care and support for arts workers they engage and the wider communities they serve,” she said.

Georgina Calvert-Lee, a lawyer who acted for the three women, said: “If we want to live in an inclusive and diverse society, it’s important that our national art galleries reflect those values by being open to all artists and curators, regardless of sex, race and any other protected characteristic.”

“The case sought to establish the principle that galleries must not discriminate against the artists and outside curators who put on their shows, any more than against members of the public who go to see them,” added Calvert-Lee, formerly of the firm McAllister Olivarius.

A Tate spokesperson said: Tate invited Amy Sharrocks to be the lead artist for a public engagement project scheduled for 2020. She proposed the involvement of several other people, asking that they also be made lead artists, which was not consistent with the terms of her contract.

“It was made clear to Ms Sharrocks that the arrangements she proposed were not achievable and after long consultation the project was ultimately cancelled. While this was a carefully considered decision, Tate regrets the way in which the relationship ended. Alongside agreeing to a settlement with those affected, we have apologized for the distress caused.”

Cruise, McQuarrie Musical Plan, More Les Grossman

Cruise Mcquarrie Musical Plan More Les Grosman
Paramount Pictures

Though actor Tom Cruise and director Christopher McQuarrie are still very much in the middle of shooting “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two,” we heard the other week the pair are already planning another action film with potential franchise.

Today, Deadline reports that the duo have added another at least one or two more projects to the list of potential film projects they could jump to post-M:I-8. One is reportedly an original song and dance-style musical crafted specifically as a star vehicle for Cruise.

Theother? The return of Cruise’s “Tropic Thunder” dance-happy studio executive character Les Grossman. In regards to that, it’s not clear if it’ll be a film centered around Grossman, or if the character will be incorporated into one of the other two projects.

Whatever the case, the scripts for all these projects will be written by McQuarrie in collaboration with Cruise. Cruise also still has his shot in outer space film on the way which has Doug Liman directing and McQuarrie producing.

Married At First Sight: Domenica Calarco and Olivia Frazer reignite feud

mafs-olivia-instagram-screenshot

Instagram

It’s common practice for reality TV stars to have their accounts managed by producers during filming and when the show goes to air, though the level of control varies.

Olivia appeared to be suggesting that while she and other MAFS stars had to hand over total control of their accounts to producers, Domenica was subject to a different set of rules.

“It was never about the individual: it was about how rotten producers are. But they can’t show you that,” she added.

But just a few hours later Domenica and MAFS bestie Ella Ding were taking to their own Instagram stories to refute her claims.

WATCH: Ella Ding and Domenica Calarco hit out at Olivia Frazer’s social media claims. Story continues.

“We had our Instagrams the entire time. I posted when I was in Queensland with Mitchell,” Ella insisted in a series of videos posted to Domenica’s account.

Domenica chimed in, “We’re gonna get the recipients of the photos we posted while we were in MAFS. We had all our social media accounts.”

Speaking with a devil filter over their faces, the two women insisted that they had full control of their social media accounts throughout filming and airing.

Though they didn’t say Olivia had the access, the pair made it clear they and other cast members didn’t have their accounts “shut down” as Olivia claimed.

Domenica also slammed Olivia’s allegations that producers gave her preferential treatment, saying, “The bulls–t of the producers being selective… I’m sick of the bulls–t. Liv, get over it.”

Meanwhile, Ella pulled up photos she shared to Instagram during filming; one posted on January 6 before the show aired, as well as shots from her de ella and Mitch Eynaud’s trip to Queensland during filming.

“If we didn’t have our social media accounts, how did she post?” Domenica sued.

It’s far from the first time these MAFS stars have taken to social media to lash out at one another, with the “nude photo scandal” from the show’s ninth season dragging out in the months after the finale.

The Block 2022 exclusive: How teams reacted to Joel and Elle quitting The Block

When the remaining block contestants were told Joel and Elle had left the show, most were confused and shocked by the sudden departure.

But not Tom and Sarah-Jane who sensed the Bondi couple might not have settled into life on the building site as well as everyone else.

Stream the latest episodes of The Block for free on 9Now.

“Something was just off, you could just tell something was off,” Sarah-Jane revealed in an exclusive video interview with 9Entertainment.

“We thought that because we’d just done a 48-hour challenge maybe that was so stressful for them, they were so sleep deprived and that’s why they were really stand-offish – but obviously they were not coping at all and that came across .”

For Ankur and Sharon, the abrupt exit was unexpected because Joel and Elle seemed “upbeat” when they chatted to the couple during their all-nighters in the 48-hour challenge.

“When I heard Joel and Elle were leaving it was more so that there must have been a massive reason for them to go,” Ankur said.

Sharon added, “I think it’s very easy to say ‘Oh they just gave up, too hard’ – I don’t think that’s fair because it’s OK to say it’s too much, it’s too hard or it’s not for us.”

EPISODE 1 RECAP: Five new teams arrive in the country and realize their tree change will be tougher than they thought

Dylan and Jenny were equally shocked with Jenny left wondering why Joel and Elle hadn’t mentioned their plans before leaving.

The Block 2022 - Week 0
Dylan and Jenny wondered why Joel and Elle didn’t say goodbye. (Nine)

“I thought it was weird they didn’t say goodbye or didn’t tell anyone because we saw them the night before at judging, and they just told us they were going for dinner and they never came back,” she explained.

In contrast Omar and Oz had a great experience with Joel and Elle who said always made time to have a chat with them.

“It’s very hard to say any bad things about them, I think they’ll be very regretful of it but it is what it is,” Omar said.

The teams found out about Joel and Elle’s exit on the day of The Block‘s promo shoot. This was meant to be their third day on set and followed the House Decider challenge bedroom judging, where Joel and Elle received some harsh feedback about their design choices.

Host Scott Cam broke the news to contestants and explained Joel and Elle had said The Block “is not on brand for them”.

It wasn’t long after executive producers had told him the pair had quit and he was still processing the news when he spoke to the teams.

“We weren’t quite sure why they left, because they didn’t actually mention it to us. The thing is, The Block‘s not for everybody and we wished them well, but we just didn’t know why they’d left, and to get to the bottom of that you’ll probably have to ask them,” he said.

The Block 2022
Joel and Elle spent just 48-hours on The Block before leaving. (Nine)

Joel and Elle’s exit meant a new team had to be found at the last-minute.

“It was a bit of a shock, because I know the opportunity that The Block presents and we weren’t ready for that, but that’s all right. We scrambled, we got another new couple and they were fantastic. So, an opportunity lost is an opportunity gained for someone else.”

READMORE: Scott Cam’s house renovation so far

While Scotty’s co-host Shelley Craft wasn’t on set when it happened she wasn’t as shocked as the others because she knows how tough The Block es.

“I can’t believe it hasn’t happened before,” she told 9Entertainment.

“You know, it’s not for everyone. It’s bloody hard, and there are much easier ways to have your 15-minutes [of fame]. The Block is virtually impossible until it’s done, and then the reward and the amount of just personal growth that comes out of it is enormous.”

Kanye West, Kim Kardashian: Insta post mocks Pete Davidson saying ‘Skete is dead at 28’

Kim Kardashian is reportedly furious with Kanye West over a poor taste post on Instagram targeting Pete Davidson who the reality TV star had recently broken up with.

The rapper, 45, shared a screenshot of a fake newspaper front page with the headline “Skete Davidson dead at age 28” on Instagram on Monday, reported the US Sun.

West has now deleted the post, apparently following Kardashian’s intervention.

The photo was a mock-up of the New York Times and was dated Monday, August 8 2022.

West has been using the nickname “Skete” for Davidson, 28, for months.

West’s latest post comes just days after it was revealed that Davidson and Kardashian have split following nine months of dating.

The Kardashians star and former SNL funnyman have broken up, and decided to just be friends, E! News reported late last week.

A source said: “They have a lot of love and respect for each other but found that the long distance and their demanding schedules made it really difficult to maintain a relationship.”

An insider later claimed Kardashian broke up with Davidson because she was “totally exhausted” by his “immaturity” and their 13-year age gap.

The split occurred sometime last week, according to the site.

Kim ‘incredibly upset’ with West

But despite the break up Kardashian has come into bat for Davidson saying the Insta meme posted by West was “appalling”.

“Kim won’t stand for this. She is demanding that Kanye take the post down, but he won’t,” a source told the Daily Mail.

“She has been vigorously defending Pete. Ella she’ll never get back together with Kanye over the way he’s treated the people she loves and respects.

“She won’t stand for this type of behavior from him.”

the new york post had further details from Kardashian sources.

“Kim is livid and incredibly upset … Kanye is back to his old ways and Kim will not tolerate his bullying behavior towards the people she loves and cares about,” a source close to the SKIMS founder told the Post’s Page Six column.

The musician – who has four children with Kardashian. – repeatedly targeted Davidson on social media after he began dating Kardashian in October.

He called Davidson a “d**khead”, threatened to “beat his a**” and accused the actor of trying to “destroy” his family in various rants.

Davidson has been spending part of the summer in Australia working on his new movie, David Michôd’s comedy Wizards!

The split comes amid rumors that Kardashian and West have reconciled.

They have four kids together – North, nine, Saint, six, Chicago, four, and Psalm, three.

The SKIMS founder filed for divorce from the rapper in February 2021 after nearly seven years of marriage.

However, Kardashian has seemingly dropped several hints recently that the two may be back on.

Earlier this month, she wore white bikini bottoms, and a matching white top that says “The Incredibles.”

Fans pointed out that West once talked about his love for the Disney movie, The Incrediblesduring an interview on Keeping Up With the Kardashians.

Kardashian has also taken to wearing clothes from West’s label Yeezy again.

Just last week, she posed with her daughters North and Chicago while all three of them wore Yeezy sunglasses.

They rocked black leather outfits and matching silver oversized shades in the series of selfies and photos.

One wrote: “YEEZY SHADES I’M TELLING YOU THEY’RE BACK.”

Another added, “They were cute together though for real,” and a third posted: “Kimye is alive.”

This story appeared in the US Sun and is reproduced with permission.

Kevin Smith: ‘It’s an incredibly bad look to cancel the Latina Batgirl movie’ | batgirl

Kevin Smith is one of a number of directors who have weighed in on the decision by Warner Bros to cancel the release of its completed Batgirl movie.

Speaking on his YouTube series Hollywood Babble-On, Smith said: “It’s an incredibly bad look to cancel the Latina Batgirl movie. I don’t give a shit if the movie was absolutely fucking dogshit – I guarantee you that it wasn’t. The two directors who directed that movie did a couple of episodes of Ms Marvel, and it was a wonderful fucking show and they had more money to do Batgirl than they had to do an episode of Ms Marvel and stuff.”

Batgirl was scrapped last week by Warner Bros Discovery. No explanation has been given, however, CEO David Zaslav said: “We’re not going to launch a movie until it’s ready.” Speculation that the film’s poor quality was the reason behind the move has been questioned by some in favor of the theory it was more cost-effective for the studio to bury the film.

Theories have been circulating that marketing and promotional costs would have been considerable, and the tax incentive for suppression could have outweighed the goodwill and potential profits that would have come from a release. However, Warner Bros are yet to comment on this speculation.

Batgirl co-director Adil El Arbi revealed on Instagram over the weekend that several high-profile Hollywood names had reached out to him and fellow director Bilall Fallah in the wake of the cancellation.

Arbi shared an email from Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige, who had previously commissioned the pair on Ms Marvel.

“My friends, I had to reach out and let you know we are all thinking about you both,” Feige wrote. “Because of the wonderful news about the wedding (congrats!) and the disappointing news about Batgirl. Very proud of you guys and all the amazing work you do and particularly Ms Marvel of course! Can’t wait to see what is next for you. Hope to see you soon.”

Other directors who had offered their support included Edgar Wright and James Gunn. “Your kind words and experience mean a lot and help us through this difficult period,” wrote Arbi.

Both Wright and Gunn have had unfortunate experiences with superhero movies. Wright was for many years attached to Ant-Man, but left the project shortly before production due to “creative differences.”

Meanwhile Gunn was fired from directing Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 after unfortunate tweets by the director resurfaced, for which he later apologised. After many stars and fans voiced their support for Gunn, he was reinstated.

Vanessa Amorosi stops Sunrise interview after Olivia Newton-John’s death

Australian singer Vanessa Amorosi appeared overcome with emotion and had to bow out of her live interview on Sunrise this morning, having only just learned of the death of Olivia Newton-John.

Amorosi was booked to appear on the program to discuss her new single, having just performed at the closing ceremony of the Birmingham Commonwealth Games.

But with Newton-John’s death aged 73 after a long cancer battle being the biggest news of the morning, Sunrise hosts Natalie Barr and David Koch were keen to first ask Amorosi about her memories of the star.

“It is an incredibly sad day – Vanessa, what are your memories?” Barr asked as they crossed to the Aussie singer in Birmingham.

Stream more entertainment news live & on demand with Flash. 25+ news channels in 1 place. New to Flash? Try 1 month free. Offer ends October 31, 2022 >

“Uh… I don’t know. I don’t particularly want to think about it, because I’ll get very emotional,” Amorosi began. “I just literally had one of the highest endorphins that just happened out there (at the closing ceremony), to being extremely sad coming offstage and checking my phone. I don’t think I’ve really processed it yet.”

Koch said he’d give Amorosi a chance to “compose” her thoughts about the late music legend, and changed tack to discuss her Commonwealth Games performance and new single.

A few minutes later, and with the interview nearing its end, the hosts moved the topic of conversation back to Olivia Newton-John.

“We know it’s a sad day for you and so many people, but we wanted to show this photo from quite a few years ago of you, Olivia Newton-John and Tina Arena,” Barr said, as a photo of the three Aussie singers at the Sydney 2000 Olympics appeared on screen.

“Can you talk us through those memories, that time, Vanessa?”
Amorosi gave it her best – but soon became overcome with emotion.

“Both of these women I have looked up to since (I was) a kid… I don’t know. I’m actually very sad about Olivia, to be honest. It’s..”

With that, she bowed her head and raised her hand, signaling the interview to stop.

Barr and Koch thanked her for her time – and Barr noted how hard it must’ve been to learn the news between a live performance and a live TV interview.

“I’m horrible. I feel for her, after coming off that.”

It’s been an emotional morning on breakfast television as friends, colleagues and fans of Newton-John have reacted to the news of her death in real time, after it broke at around 5:30am AEST.

Over on Nine, veteran entertainment reporter Richard Wilkins at first held it together as he reported the sad news on Today – but later in the morning, he was overcome with emotion, sobbing as host Karl Stefanovic rushed to comfort him.

And back on Sunriseanother emotional live interview, this time on the streets of Los Angeles with Grease casting director Joel Thurm, who wept openly as he described his fond memories of Newton-John.

The British-born, Melbourne-raised entertainer had waged a decades-long battle against cancer, which returned again in 2013.

In May 2017, she announced her breast cancer had returned and metastasized to her sacrum, and in 2018, it was revealed she was again battling the disease.

In October last year, Newton-John revealed that she was battling Stage 4 breast cancer but was managing the pain with medical marijuana.

Then today came the news fans had been fearing for years: Newton-John had died at her Southern Californian ranch, surrounded by loved ones, including her husband, John Easterling, and daughter, Chloe Lattanzi.

Chloe has today paid tribute to her late mum on social media – who she just days ago referred to as her “best friend.”

Newton-John was first diagnosed with the disease in 1992 but announced she had overcome the cancer in 2013, the year after her Wellness Center first opened.

But in May 2017, she was told cancer had metastasized and spread to her bones.

Reflecting on her fight to beat the condition, she admitted: ‘I don’t see it as a battle. I don’t think about it a lot, to be honest.

She also admitted that she had hope for her future.

‘I’m winning over and living with it well and that’s how I see it,’ she added.
