Child Arrested in Sweeney Family Deaths – NBC Boston

A child has been charged with murdering a mother and her two young children found shot to death in Northfield, New Hampshire, last week, authorities said.

The arrest was announced Thursday by New Hampshire Attorney General John Formella, State Police Colonel Nathan Noyes and Northfield Police Chief John Raffaelly. They didn’t share the suspect’s name, age or other identifying information, citing legal restrictions on sharing information on children charged with crimes.

Asked about the case, New Hampshire Senior Assistant Attorney General Geoffrey Ward emphasized that his office was bound not to share more details. He didn’t say whether the suspect was known to the family or whether searches in different New Hampshire towns turned up any evidence.

He reiterated investigators’ previous statement that they believe they’ve identified everyone involved in the killing.

Police found the bodies of 25-year-old Kassandra Sweeney and her two sons, 4-year-old Benjamin Sweeney and 1-year-old Mason Sweeney, in their Northfield home on the morning of Aug. 3 while responding to a 911 call . Each died of a single gunshot wound, autopsies found.

Law enforcement searched for evidence in the case on Saturday in Northfield and Tilton, and again on Wednesday near Interstate 93 in Concord, Canterbury and Tilton, but didn’t immediately say if they discovered any evidence related to the case.

The investigation into the killing of a mother and her two young sons in Northfield, New Hampshire had officers searching off I-93 Wednesday.

As the investigation continued, rumors spread in Northfield, a town of fewer than 5,000 residents north of Concord and southwest of the Lakes Region.

“Every other customer is coming in saying something about the gun and who did it,” Barbara Moulton, who works at a local convenience store, told NBC10 Boston.

“The first three or four days people were really scared, like, ‘Oh no, who was it?'” she added.

A funeral was planned for Kassandra Sweeney Saturday in Concord.

Senior Assistant Attorney General Geoff Ward said last week that the attorney general’s office had been in contact with the children’s father, Sean Sweeney, and he has been “very cooperative and helpful in this investigation.” He said the attorney general’s victim witness advocate is working with him and his family of him.

“The search activity poses no danger to the public and will consist of a search for physical information,” the attorney general’s office said in a statement.

“He is obviously beyond devastated as a result of these crimes,” Ward said.

Sweeney spoke about the case for the first time in a Facebook post Sunday morning.

“I wanted to thank everyone for the outreach and support, while things will never be ‘normal’ again my body finally shut down and let me get some sleep last night and I woke up feeling as ‘normal’ as possible,” he wrote.

Sweeney said he is “unable to confirm anything as to what happened and who is responsible” and called his wife Kassandra “the most amazing, caring, sweetest all around good person that anyone could ever meet,” while adding that she loved their children very much.

Patients getting stuck at transitional accommodation for an average of six months, report finds

A review into transitional accommodation for people with disabilities who have been discharged from hospital has found some people are getting stuck at facilities almost permanently, amid reports from patients that they are receiving substandard care.

The State Government ordered a review of the Transition to Home facilities after multiple complaints, including the case of a man known as “Mr D” who was found by ambulance staff in squalid conditions with an infected wound.

Mr D was at a Hampstead facility that has since closed, but the remaining Transition to Home programs at The Repat and St Margaret’s Rehabilitation Hospital have also come under fire for a lack of care, with allegations clients have been left to soil themselves in their wheelchairs .

Last week, the ABC revealed multiple complaints from patients at the Repat Health Precinct, including allegations that patients were being left in their own faeces and had been given the incorrect doses of medication.

Originally designed to help NDIS clients stuck in hospital waiting for support to return home or to permanent accommodation, the independent report has found clients were being referred to the service without a discharge pathway, “resulting in clients being admitted whose length of stay in T2H will most likely to be static, long stay or permanent.”

It found while the expected length of stay in a T2H facility was 90 days, the average length of stay was 207 days. As of June this year the longest stay was 536 days.

Staff and clients told the reviewers that in some cases clients were waiting on simple home modifications, but NDIS requirements to get three quotes, combined with the post COVID-19 market was leading to delays.

Major facility misunderstanding

The report found the centers were designed to operate as step-down facilities, but there were frequent misunderstandings with clients who expect ongoing hospital-level care, a situation exacerbated by their location in a hospital setting.

While both facilities were supposed to be a home-like environment, the report found they had significant limitations including shared rooms with just curtains to separate clients, a lack of storage, limited access to outdoor areas and a lack of amenities like kitchen and laundry facilities. .

The so-called “Robust Unit” at The Repat was singled out.

“The new Robust Units … are stark and confronting, and the current bright white color and fit out are unlikely to contribute to calming a person with challenging behaviour,” the report found.

It found St Margaret’s “arrangements are of a much higher standard, although a number of shared rooms impact client privacy and dignity”.

The facilities have already been subject to multiple investigations, including internal audits and an inquiry by the Health and Community Services Complaints Commissioner.

Kassandra Sweeney, 2 Children Killed – NBC Boston

Authorities said Friday that no arrests have been made after a mother and her two young sons were found dead in their Northfield, New Hampshire, home earlier this week.

Senior Assistant Attorney General Geoff Ward said they have been in contact with the children’s father and he has been “very cooperative and helpful in this investigation.” He said the attorney general’s victim witness advocate is working with him and his family of him.

“He is obviously beyond devastated as a result of these crimes,” Ward said.

The victims were identified Thursday as 25-year-old Kassandra Sweeney and her two sons, 4-year-old Benjamin Sweeney and 1-year-old Mason Sweeney, according to a joint press release from the attorney general, state police, and Northfield police.

Law enforcement responding to a 911 call that people may be hurt inside a Wethersfield Drive home in Northfield found the three bodies inside around 11:30 am Wednesday. The attorney general initially said the deaths were being investigated as suspicious but released very few other details.

Kassandra Sweeney and her two sons, 4-year-old Benjamin and 1-year-old Mason, were shot to death in a Wethersfield Drive home in Northfield, the attorney general’s office announced.

Autopsies were conducted Thursday and the chief medical examiner determined that all three died from single gunshot wounds. Their deaths have been ruled homicides.

The attorney general has not named a suspect in the three shooting deaths but said investigators have identified “all involved parties” at this point in the investigation and there is no threat to the general public. They do not believe the killings were a random event.

“There’s been no arrest or charge in connection with these homicides but, again, reiterate that we believe we’ve identified everyone involved,” Ward said Friday.

Nearby residents who spoke to NBC10 Boston on Friday weren’t so sure.

“I think that’s very concerning because if two little boys and a mother is killed and they have nobody in custody that doesn’t make me feel safe,” Karen Fogg said. “Obviously somebody is on the run.”

No arrest yet in the triple homicide has people asking questions.

“Who did it and whether or not there’s leads, and things like that. Whether or not it was a family member that did it,” John Kivlehin said.

Ward released little new information on Friday, but said investigators will leave “no stone unturned.” He stressed that the investigation is not yet 48 hours old and it is too soon to say when or if an arrest will be made.

“There’s still active work ongoing at the scene. We’re still early in this investigation,” he said.

Officials would not say Friday who made the 911 call or whether an arrest is imminent.

Northfield, a town of fewer than 5,000 residents, is located in Merrimack County, between north of Concord and southwest of the Lakes Region.
