Yaser Said’s ex-wife slams ‘devil’ father for ‘honor killings’ of daughters

A Texas man on trial for murdering his two daughters in “honor killings” because they were dating American boys was called the “devil” in court Thursday by the girls’ mother, who detailed 15 years of abuse during their marriage.

Patricia Owens, Yaser Said’s former wife, had not seen him since New Year’s Day of 2008 — when he took their daughters Amina, 18, and Sarah, 17, to dinner and insisted on going alone so they could talk.

Instead, prosecutors say, Said shot the girls multiple times in the cab he drove and left them for dead outside a hotel in suburban Irving.

Owens testified that she and the girls had just returned to their home in Lewisville, Texas, from Oklahoma, where they had gone to get away from Said. She testified she knew the girls were dating — and that Said would have become enraged if he knew about it.

“I just thought he would, like, punish them, like take their phone away and stuff like that,” she said.

But long before 2008, Owens testified, she and her daughters were abused by Said. She told the jury how she married Said in 1987, when she was just 15 and he was 29. She gave birth to Amina, Sarah, and their brother Islam in the first three years of their marriage.

Patricia Owens called her ex-husband Yaser Said the "evil" for allegedly murdering their two daughters at his trial in Dallas, Texas on August 4, 2022.

Owens claimed she left Said multiple times during the marriage and described him as controlling.

In 1998, while living near Waco, Texas, Owens filed a report with the Hill County Sheriff’s Office accusing Said of sexually abusing the two girls. She took all three children and left him for months, before returning and telling the girls to recant their story.

“I felt scared not to go back,” Owens explained. “Yaser was abusive.”

In late 2007, Owens and her daughters fled again to Tulsa, Okla., after the girls feared their father would kill them if he learned they had both become engaged to their boyfriends. Owens said Said had previously threatened Amina with a gun.

The mother and daughters returned to Texas to finish their schooling on the promise that Said would leave the family home. Even then, Amina refused to go back to the house, fearful of the repercussions.

When prosecutors asked Owens if she knew what would happen when they returned, she replied, “Part of me did. Part of me didn’t.”

Earlier this week, prosecutors played a recording of a 911 call placed by Sarah after she had been shot, but was still alive.

“My father shot me. I’m dying,” Sarah said in the recording.

Said, who was arrested in August 2020 after more than a decade on the lam, has maintained his innocence and his lawyer has argued that he is being targeted by law enforcement for being Muslim in a post-Sept. 11 world.

He will serve an automatic life sentence if he’s found guilty.

McLaren to investigate Daniel Ricciardo-Lando Norris mismatch

Andreas Seidl has conceded McLaren “need to understand” why Daniel Ricciardo was unable to match Lando Norris’ performance at the Hungarian Grand Prix.

Ricciardo has endured a torrid 18 months at McLaren despite leading the team to its only victory in a decade at last year’s Italian GP.

The recent weekend at the Hungaroring was another example of his difficult season as McLaren put both drivers on the same strategy, with Lando Norris coming home seventh after starting fourth, and the Australian finishing 15th from ninth.

Assessing the dramatic differences again between his two drivers, team principal Seidl said: “[We scored] important points, obviously, for our battle in the constructors’ championship battle with Alpine.

“But, of course, we need to understand why on Daniel’s side, with exactly the same strategy, we were falling off so much with the hard tires in the final stint which put Daniel out of the points.

“That’s what we need to analyze together with Daniel.”

McLaren encouraged by upgrade progress

McLaren started the season with a brake duct issue, dropping the team to the back of the field.

After bringing its latest upgrades to the track in France, McLaren is continuing to see improvement as it continues to fight to be the ‘best of the rest’ with Alpine behind the leading trio of Red Bull, Ferrari and Mercedes.

“In the end, P7 was a good outcome for us because we have to accept that when the cars of the top three finish a race without major incidents, they are clearly a step ahead,” added Seidl.

“Therefore, P7 for us was a good result for various reasons.

“I am very happy that we could also show in the race the encouraging signs we had already seen in Paul Ricard and also on Friday since we introduced our upgraded package in terms of performance.

“They have definitely made a good step forward which allowed us to score the P4 in quali and the P7 of Lando in the race.”

Caleb Clarke to wing it against the Springboks

Robust wing Caleb Clarke has been named in New Zealand’s starting line-up after returning from injury for their first Test in the Rugby Championship against South Africa in Nelspruit this weekend.

The prolific Will Jordan and versatile Jordie Barrett retain their places in the back three that can expect an aerial assault from the Springboks on Saturday.

David Havili and Rieko Ioane will continue with their partnership in midfield as they were in the final Test against Ireland.

No half-back changes

Beauden Barrett remains the starting fly-half in his half-back partnership with veteran scrum-half Aaron Smith and the pair will be key decision-makers in Saturday’s Test.

The loose trio is the same as the All Blacks’ previous Test, where Akira Ioane impressed after being thrust into the starting line-up late on that occasion. Sam Cane will lead the team from the side of the scrum, whilst Ardie Savea will be looking to continue his good form at number eight in the black jersey.

All eyes will be on second-row pairing Sam Whitelock and Scott Barrett, who will need to take charge of the lineout after a poor showing in the set-piece during their Test series against Ireland.

Meanwhile, George Bower, Samisoni Taukei’aho and Angus Ta’avao make up a new look front-row that will be up against a strong Springbok scrum.

On the bench, Dane Coles, Ethan de Groot and Tyrell Lomax are coach Ian Foster’s options as front-row substitutes, while Tupou Vaa’i and Shannon Frizell are the other forward replacements.

Blues livewire scrum-half Finlay Christie and playmaker Richie Mo’unga are half-back options on the bench, with center Quinn Tupaea the final substitute.

Foster was excited to start the Rugby Championship against their rivals and is looking forward to getting started.

“What a great way to start this year’s Rugby Championship. It’s always an exciting tournament to be part of,” he said. “This year’s draw means we have a massive challenge of two games here in South Africa.

Expects intense encounter

“We have settled in well in Mbombela and are preparing for what is always an intense game against our old foe.

“Many of our squad are here in South Africa for the first time. This gives us another opportunity to add new experiences and grow our game.”

New Zealand: 15 Jordie Barrett, 14 Will Jordan, 13 Rieko Ioane, 12 David Havili, 11 Caleb Clarke, 10 Beauden Barrett, 9 Aaron Smith, 8 Ardie Savea, 7 Sam Cane (c), 6 Akira Ioane, 5 Scott Barrett, 4 Sam Whitelock , 3 Angus Ta’avao, 2 Samisoni Taukei’aho, 1 George Bower

Manhunt over bloodied NJ woman sparked by misunderstanding

A nationwide manhunt over a bloody, thought-to-be-abducted woman in New Jersey was sparked by an accident and a bizarre misunderstanding, police told The Post Friday.

The unnamed woman — who was spotted screaming and bleeding inside a tractor-trailer on Route 130 Wednesday — was hurt when her husband hit the brakes to avoid an accident, South Brunswick Police Deputy Chief Jim Ryan said.

The woman, who was standing between the cab and the sleeper of the rig, flew forward and was left bleeding and screaming, he said.

But a worker from a nearby car rental company who did not see the big rig stop short, saw the woman bleeding and thought he might be witnessing a kidnapping and called police, Ryan said.

“He’s standing in a parking lot and he hears someone yell ‘help,’” said Ryan, adding the witness called police.

The mix-up triggered a multi-agency search for the truck and, after media reported the incident, at least 100 calls about possible sightings from Texas to California, Ryan said.

According to police, the nationwide manhunt for a though-to-be-abducted woman in New Jersey was due to a misunderstanding.

Police used surveillance footage, including from local businesses, along with tips to track down the 50-something married couple and determine there was no foul play Thursday, Ryan said.

“It’s amazing what people can do if they mobilize,” he said. “I’m glad the outcome was positive.”

Despite the weird mix up, he said the witness ultimately did the right thing by reporting the woman in distress.

“He actually saw it accurately, and made some great observations,” Ryan said.

Gov. Greg Abbott vows more migrant buses coming to NYC

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott’s office vowed Friday to send even more busloads of border-crossers to the Big Apple — as the Lone Star State continues to grapple with the ongoing migrant crisis.

The Republican governor said the Port Authority Bus Terminal in midtown Manhattan would be a drop-off spot going forward after the first busload from the border arrived in the city Friday morning.

“Over 50 migrants were bused to New York City this morning from the southern border in Texas,” Abbott’s office said in a statement.

“This is now a drop-off location for our ongoing seeking strategy.”

Abbott has already dispatched dozens of buses — filled with more than 6,100 migrants — to Washington DC since April.

He vowed to continue to charter buses to both New York and the nation’s capital as his state struggles to deal with the unprecedented number of migrants illegally crossing the US-Mexico border.

“Because of President Biden’s continued refusal to acknowledge the crisis caused by his open border policies, the State of Texas has had to take unprecedented action to keep our communities safe,” Abbott said in announcing the arrival of the bus at Port Authority Gate 14.

“In addition to Washington, DC, New York City is the ideal destination for these migrants, who can receive the abundance of city services and housing that Mayor Eric Adams has boasted about within the sanctuary city.

“I hope he follows through on his promise of welcoming all migrants with open arms so that our overrun and overwhelmed border towns can find relief.”

Adams, who has already warned that NYC’s homeless shelters are being overrun by migrants, turned down Abbott’s invitation to visit the border earlier this week to see the “dire situation” firsthand.

Abbott told Fox News’ Jesse Watters Thursday night that he wished Adams and DC Mayor Muriel Bowser would reconsider his offer.

“They do need to realize the magnitude of the chaos created by Biden’s open-border policies,” Abbott said.

“We’re full in the state of Texas,” Abbott added. “Our communities are overrun, and I started busing people to Washington DC, when local officials could not handle the number of people that had come across our border.”

Kamala Harris labeled hypocrite over Brittney Griner comments

Vice President Kamala Harris was accused of hypocrisy after she decried Brittney Griner’s conviction by Russia on cannabis smuggling charges — despite Harris prosecuting thousands of similar marijuana possession cases in her earlier career as a prosecutor.

Griner, 31, was sentenced on Thursday to nine years in prison after she admitted to bringing vape cartridges containing cannabis oil into the country. The WNBA star said she had been prescribed the oil to help relieve pain related to her chronic injuries and had accidentally packed them in her luggage.

The verdict was met with universal condemnation from US diplomats and government officials, led by President Biden, who called the sentence “unacceptable” and demanded that Russia release both Griner and a second jailed American, Paul Whelan, “immediately.”

Harris released a separate statement on Twitter condemning Griner’s conviction.

“With today’s sentencing, Russia continues its wrongful detention of Brittney Griner. She should be released immediately,” Harris wrote. “@POTUS and I, and our entire Administration, are working every day to reunite Brittney, as well as Paul Whelan, with loved ones who miss each of them dearly.”

But Harris’ many critics were quick to point out that while serving as both San Francisco’s district attorney and California’s attorney general, she oversaw thousands of marijuana-related prosecutions and was an outspoken critic of pot legalization, as the Daily Mail first reported.

Tap the right side of the screen below to watch this web story:

Brittney Griner sentenced to 9 years for cannabis possession in Russia

“Brittney Griner got 9 years for drug possession in Russia… which sounds like most of the criminal sentences Kamala Harris got people for the same thing when she was attorney general of California,” author Tim Young tweeted.

Another commenter wrote: “LMAO, didn’t U lock up as—load of people for weed? Then bragged about it, and went on to say you smoked weed in college listening to Tupac and snoop before they cut their first albums?”

A third smoked in the same vein: “You locked up people for possession of marijuana. And you’re only condemning this because the US cannot profit from her incarceration of her in Russia.

The San Jose Mercury News reported in 2019 that during Harris’ tenure as San Francisco’s top prosecutor between 2004-2010, her office handled more than 1,900 marijuana convictions — although it has been pointed out that most of those arrested for low-level possession were spared prison time, and only a few dozen were incarcerated.

Harris was elected the Golden State’s attorney general in 2011 and had a further 1,970 people locked up for marijuana offenses on her watch, according to an investigation by the Washington Free Beacon, a conservative publication.

Harris also vocally opposed California’s marijuana legalization ballot initiative, which ultimately passed in 2016.

She only threw her support behind legalization around 2018, even endorsing a bill which would have removed cannabis from the Controlled Substances Act, reported Forbes. She also wrote a book in which she argued for the decriminalization of cannabis.

By the time Harris radically changed her stance on marijuana, there was already talk of her running for president.

Harris famously sparred with Hawaii Rep. Tulsi Gabbard during a Democratic presidential debate in 2019 after Gabbard brought up her record of throwing people in prison for marijuana possession.

“She put over 1,500 people in jail for marijuana violations and then laughed about it when she was asked if she ever smoked marijuana,” Gabbard said, referring to Harris’ interview with the radio show “The Breakfast Club.”

In that sitdown, the White House contender — and former prosecutor — admitted with a laugh that she had smoked marijuana in college, saying: “I have. And I inhaled—I did inhale. It was a long time ago. But, yes.”

First bus of migrants from Texas arrives in NYC, Abbott says

Just days after Mayor Eric Adams turned down Greg Abbott’s invitation to visit the southern border, the Texas governor sent a taste of the ongoing migrant emerging to NYC’s doorstep — with the first busload of border-crossers arriving in Manhattan Friday morning.

The Republican governor revealed in a statement that the migrant bus arrived at Gate 14 of the Port Authority Bus Terminal, but did not provide any additional details — such as how many people were on board or their countries of origin.

The arrival of the migrants comes as Abbott has dispatched dozens of buses to Washington DC since April, transporting more than 6,100 migrants to the nation’s capital in “response to the Biden administration’s open border policies overwhelming Texas communities.”

“Because of President Biden’s continued refusal to acknowledge the crisis caused by his open border policies, the State of Texas has had to take unprecedented action to keep our communities safe,” Abbott said in his Friday statement.

“In addition to Washington, DC, New York City is the ideal destination for these migrants, who can receive the abundance of city services and housing that Mayor Eric Adams has boasted about within the sanctuary city. I hope he follows through on his promise of welcoming all migrants with open arms so that our overrun and overwhelmed border towns can find relief,” he continued.

In the governor’s announcement, his office pointed to New York City’s right to housing laws which require the local government to provide “emergency shelter for every unhoused person.”

Already, Adams has warned that the homeless shelters in the city are being overloaded with migrants. Previous reporting by The Post confirmed a Department of Homeless Service intake center in the Bronx as well as the Bellevue men’s shelter in Manhattan have seen a growing number of migrants arrive in recent days.

City Hall Press Secretary Fabien Levy later told The Post, “Governor Abbott is finally admitting to what we’ve known he’s been doing all along. His continued use of human beings as political pawns is disgusting, and an embarrassing stain on the state of Texas.”

“New York will continue to welcome asylum seekers with open arms, as we have always have, but we are asking for resources to help do so. We need Washington, DC’s assistance in dealing with the cruel political games being played by inept politicians like the governor of Texas,” Levy added.

Last month, Adams claimed Texas and Arizona had already been transporting migrants to the Big Apple, and called on President Biden to provide federal resources to handle the influx.

However, that assertion was rejected by both Abbott and Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey, who insisted it was the federal government sending migrants to New York.

In response, Abbott Adams invited to visit the southern border to “see firsthand the dire situation.”

The Post has previously reported that Manhattan shelters are experiencing a high volume of migrants seeking refuge.

“Your recent interest in this historic and preventable crisis is a welcomed development – especially as the President and his Administration have shown no remorse for their actions nor desire to address the situation themselves,” Abbott said this week.

“As Governor, I invite you to visit our border region to see firsthand the fire situation that only grows more urgent with each passing day, and to meet with the local officials, who like yourselves, realize this matter deserves immediate federal action.”

Abbott reiterated his invitations to Adams and DC Mayor Muriel Bowser during an appearance on Fox News Thursday night.

“I really wish they would [come down] because public officials across the country, they do need to realize the magnitude of the chaos created by Biden’s open-border policies,” Abbott told host Jesse Watters. “They’re up in arms about a few thousand people coming into their communities over the past few months? All of the migrants who have arrived in Washington and New York via the governor’s bus transportation have gone there voluntarily, since they are permitted to travel within the US after being processed by Customs and Border Protection.

Typically, when migrants are released from federal custody after crossing the border and evading expulsion, they are given paperwork allowing them to stay in the US as well as an order to appear in immigration court when their cases can be heard.

In July, Bowser requested help from the National Guard to address the influx of migrants arriving in the city.

“Our collective response and service efforts have now become overwhelmed,” Bowser wrote in a July 19 request to Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin.

“[O]our homeless services system is already under great strain; and tragically, many families arrive in Washington, DC with nowhere to go, or they remain in limbo seeking onward destinations across the United States.

“With pledges from Texas and Arizona to continue these abhorrent operations indefinitely, the situation is dire,” the mayor added, “and we consider this a humanitarian crisis – one that could overwhelm our social support network without immediate and sustained federal intervention.”

Brandon Fabris bailed after knifing ex-Mongols bikie Kimura Davidson at Northbridge’s Millennium karaoke bar

A man accused of slashing an ex-Mongol bikie’s face and neck during a violent fight at a Northbridge karaoke bar has denied he rang the venue from jail to get them to delete CCTV footage of the attack.

Brandon Fabris, who was granted bail in court on Friday just over 24 hours after the bloody attack, also claims he had no idea his alleged victim Kimura Davidson, 29, had former ties to an outlaw motorcycle gang.

His lawyer Roisin Keating told Perth Magistrate’s Court the 12cm cut her client is alleged to have inflicted on Mr Davidson was not as serious as it appeared, despite it requiring surgery, and suggested the charge of grievous bodily harm police had laid in the hours after Thursday’s attack would likely be downgraded.

“It’s not how the injury looks it’s what the injury actually is,” she said on Friday, adding that her client was in no way connected to the alleged victim and hadn’t even known Mr Davidson’s name until seeing it on the charge sheet that morning.

After opposing bail, police prosecution said investigators did not believe the incident was linked to outlaw motorcycle gang activity.

The revelation came after responding officers were seen securing a bundle of $50 and $100 notes believed to have been found near where the bloody attack unfolded at Millennium.

Photos taken of the crime scene show forensic officers scouring the area around Francis Street, focusing their interest on a restaurant, two karaoke clubs and a side alley.

The court was told the violent attack happened about 2.45am on Thursday, when multiple men, amongst whom was Mr Davidson, approached Mr Fabris at Millennium’s bar.

It was alleged that what started as a verbal argument between the group quickly escalated when a man not identified in court threw a punch.

WA Police rescue ducklings in pouring rain on Perth’s Mitchell Freeway

WA Police have proven there is no case they can’t quack, braving the pouring rain to help rescue adorable ducklings that lost their way and waddled onto a Perth freeway earlier this week.

The group of about 10 Shelduck ducklings was spotted trying to cross the northbound lanes of Mitchell Freeway, just before the Hodges Drive exit in Heathridge, around 10.20am on Tuesday, August 2.

A WA Police spokesperson said police received multiple calls alerting them to the situation and Traffic Enforcement Group North officers sprang into action.

“Unfortunately, there was no sign of a mother duck, and the ducklings were in danger of being hit by cars,” they said.

The spokesperson said the officers, with the assistance of Main Roads WA staff and members of the public, were able to safely secure all but one of the ducklings.

Video of the rescue shows officers in the rain collecting the birds and entering a roadside storm drain in an attempt to scoop out the last duckling that got washed away.

“After several attempts, [the officer] was able to safely rescue the last duckling,” the spokesperson said.

Main Roads WA maintained a safe working area using their incident response service vehicle on the side of the freeway, while the rescue took place.

The ducklings were taken to Native Animal Rescue in Malaga, where they are now being cared for.
