Notorious Greek restaurant with reputation for ripping off customers cops huge fine

An infamous restaurant notorious for ripping off and intimidating its customers on a popular tourist island in Greece has been found tens of thousands of dollars.

DK Oyster bar in Mykonos has been forced to cough up $44,740 after being found to be in violation of several codes.

The country’s Tourism Minister Vassilis Kikilias instructed the Cyclades Regional Tourism Agency to conduct a thorough investigation of the restaurant after an incident involving American tourists who were charged a staggering $866 for two drinks and a portion of crab legs.

During the probe, the agency found the eatery had breached several codes, for which it was slapped with the fine.

It came after Brenda Moulton and her daughter Kaylea hit DK Oyster with a lawsuit after being strong-armed into paying the astronomical tab.

The pair were on holiday and enjoying the idyllic Platys Gialos beach when they were given the scare of their lives.

On refusing to pay the bill, they were surrounded by three waiters and the manager and told they would not be allowed to return to the US.

“I told them that two mojitos and two crab legs cannot make 600 euros. I will not pay you,” Brenda said.

The manager then allegedly threatened them: ”I will call the police. They will keep you here and you will not return to your homeland. We can easily find where you live.”

American holidaymaker Theodora McCormick and husband fall victim to notorious Greek restaurant with huge bill

Yet another tourist couple have been left horrified at the bill charged by a notorious restaurant on the Greek island of Mykonos.

American holidaymakers Theodora McCormick and her husband were taking in the sights of the stunning island when they dropped into the DK Oyster bar.

They ordered two beers, two cocktails and a dozen oysters — and were slapped with a $730 bill.

Then when they complained, Ms McCormick claims that “hulking” male waiters intimidated them into paying.

She said that they only dropped into the restaurant to call a taxi and ordered to be polite.

“I told my husband, ‘Oh, why don’t we call a taxi and grab a drink’,” she said. “That was my big mistake.”

Ms McCormick said that when she asked for a cocktail menu, the waiter instead rattled off a list of options.

They ordered two martinis and two beers — and were amazed at the size of the drinks.

Owner of notorious Greek restaurant hits back over newlyweds claims of eyewatering prices and bad service

The owner of a restaurant that charged newlyweds a staggering $850 for a quick snack has hit back at the couple, branding them “liars”.

Alex and Lindsay Breen ordered just one beer, one cocktail and a dozen oysters — and were then hit with the eyewatering bill by the DK Oyster bar on the Greek island of Mykonos.

Lindsay said she asked for a drinks menu but was repeatedly fobbed off before finally giving in and ordering an Aperol spritz.

When the couple were ready to leave, they asked for the bill — but rather than giving it to them at the table, Alex was taken to a back room to pay.

On being shown the massive bill, Alex was shocked and asked for a breakdown, which they gave him in Greek.

Feeling under pressure and getting a “sketchy vibe”, Alex paid the bill.

But DK Oyster owner Dimitrios Kalamaras said the honeymooners were out of their minds.

“This person who is trying to get famous through Instagram posts under the name of Lyndsay Breen, starts with a lie,” he told Kennedy News.

“She claims that she ‘repeatedly asked for a cocktail menu’ and adds that ‘the server didn’t seem to want to provide one’.

“Despite that, she placed an order. An experienced well traveled person … she did what most adults in the right mind would not do — she ordered drinks and food from a waiter who refused to present a menu.

“This false claim has been used so much against our restaurant by dozens of anonymous users in TripAdvisor that we decided to place three huge blackboards by the entrance of the restaurant displaying the menu and the prices.”

While the restaurant does have prices on blackboards, tourists say it is misleading with prices based on per 100g rather than the usual 1kg as is the norm at most eateries in Greece.

Mr Kalamaras added that if someone was unhappy with the service before they ordered, they could “leave or request to talk to the manager”.

Newlyweds Alex and Lindsay Breen pay eyewatering amount for two drinks and a snack in Greece

It was just a quick snack and drinks while on their honeymoon in Greece — and it turned into a whopping bill.

Newlyweds Alex and Lindsay Breen ordered just one beer, one cocktail and a dozen oysters — and were then hit with a staggering $850 bill by the DK Oyster bar on the island of Mykonos.

The Canadian couple were in disbelief when they saw the eyewatering tab, with restaurant waiters handing them menus without prices.

“We went to the oyster bar for a bite to eat and a drink,” Lindsay said.

“They immediately said, ‘Do you want oysters?’ We said yes and he said, ‘A dozen?’, so we said yes because a dozen is a typical order.

“My husband ordered a beer and I asked for a cocktail menu and he came back with the beer but I had to ask again for a cocktail menu and he started rhyming off different kinds of alcohol he had, vodka, gin but I asked for a menu.”

The waiter eventually brought her a menu “but it didn’t have the brand or the drinks”.

Lindsay gave in and ordered an Aperol spritz.

When they had finished the oysters, the waiter tried to persuade them to order crab legs.

“When we’d finished the oysters, he was trying to get us to have crab legs and thank goodness we didn’t,” Lindsay said.

She said the waiter then tried to pressure them into having dessert.

“The guy came back with a huge trolley of desserts and he says, ‘So of course we’re having cake today’, and starts putting different desserts on our table and we said we didn’t want them and he started getting offended that we didn’t want to take them, so I can see how people would be pressured to take more,” she said.

“As we kept refusing what he was trying to give us, he was getting more frustrated.”

“He definitely felt intimidated and he’s the friendliest guy, so even if the bill was double he probably would have paid it to avoid any problems,” Lindsay said.

“It was pretty crazy. I’m glad in hindsight that we didn’t cause an argument or refuse to pay because it could have ended up worse for us.

“They know when you’re tourists and they take advantage.”
