Volodymyr Zhukovskyy found not guilty of killing 7 motorcyclists

A commercial truck driver who took drugs on the same day he was part of a grisly New Hampshire crash that killed seven motorcyclists was acquired Tuesday on all charges.

Driver Volodymyr Zhukovskyy told police at the time he caused the accident, but jurors in less than three hours found him not guilty of seven counts each of manslaughter and negligent homicide, as well as one count of reckless conduct.

Zhukovskyy, 26, had been in jail since the June 21, 2019 crash where he continuously swerved back and forth leading up to the head-on collision.

The Massachusetts resident cried as the verdict was read and pointed toward the sky as he left the Coos County courtroom.

“Our hearts go out to the victims and their families. Our trial team did an excellent job and we firmly believe that the State provided its case beyond a reasonable doubt,” New Hampshire Attorney General John Formella said in a statement.

The father of one of the victims was stunned by the verdict.

“Killing seven people and he gets off. That is unbelievable,” said Albert Mazza whose son Albert “Woody” Mazza Jr. died in the crash.

“It doesn’t make much sense,” the heart-stricken dad added. “There are seven people dead. There are seven families affected. It’s strange that he didn’t get something.”

But the defense team actually pointed the finger at Mazza Jr., saying he was drunk at the time of the crash. Lawyers for Zhukovskyy also argued Mazza wasn’t looking when he lost control of his motorcycle and slid in front of the truck.

The judge previously tossed eight charges connected to whether Zhukovskyy was impaired at the time of the crash.

The family of Zhukonskyy, who was born in Ukraine, was grateful for the “honest and fair trial.”

“Our family expresses its deepest condolences to the family and friends affected by this tragedy,” they said, adding he was “very honest and kind man. He would never have done anything to hurt anyone.”

US Immigration and Customs Enforcement issued an immigration detainer on Zhukovskyy following the crash, which was executed after the verdict, said Coos County Corrections Department official.

He was served papers to appear before an immigration judge and will remain in ICE custody before the hearing, ICE said.

Zhukovskyy’s commercial driving license was supposed to be revoked in Massachusetts when the crash occurred because of a drunken driving arrest in Connecticut two months beforehand.

But it wasn’t suspended due to a backlog of cases.

The killed motorcyclists, part of the Jarheads Motorcycle Club, were from New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Massachusetts and ranged from ages of 42 to 62.

Victims Mazza, couple Edward and Jo-Ann Corr, Michael Ferazzi, Desma Oakes, Daniel Pereira, and Aaron Perry were traveling in a larger group at the time of the crash.

Defense attorney Jay Duguay argued authorities ignored their own accident reconstruction unit that contradicted the assertion that Zhukovskyy crossed into the oncoming lane. He also mentioned inconsistencies from witnesses.

Prosecutor Scott Chase acknowledged the inconsistencies but noted witnesses on the stand were talking about “some of the most unimaginable chaos, trauma, death and carnage that we can even imagine three years later.”

He also argued Zhukovskyy continued to swerve “until he killed people.”

Victims in Texas golf cart crash by alleged drunk driver ID’d

Four people, including two children, who were killed when an alleged drunk driver plowed into their golf cart in Texas over the weekend have now been identified, police said Monday.

Police named Felipe Bentacur, 49, Destiny Uvalle, 25, Brailyn Cantu, 14, and 4-year-old Kaisyn Bentacur as the victims of the fatal crash in Galveston late Saturday night.

The relationship between the four slain victims wasn’t immediately known, but police said two different families were riding in the cart at the time.

Bentacur died at the scene, while Uvalle and the two children were pronounced dead after being rushed to the hospital.

Two other golf cart passengers, an adult and juvenile, remained in the hospital in critical condition, police said. Their identities haven’t been released publicly.

The six victims had been traveling in the golf cart when a suspected drunk driver, Miguel Espinoza, 45, flew through a stop sign at about 11:30 pm

Galveston police Sgt. Derek Gaspard said Espinoza allegedly crashed his SUV into a pickup truck, which then struck the golf cart.

Galveston Mayor Craig Brown added that golf carts had become “quite a prolific mode of transportation” for residents and visitors to the island resort area.

“I was out last night,” Brown said on Sunday. “The island was busy and there were golf carts — residential as well as rental golf carts — out all over these streets.”

Family of LA crash victim Asherey Ryan addresses driver

The sister of the pregnant woman who died in a California car crash that killed five other people said the family has forgiven the driver arrested in the fatal collision.

Sha’seana Kerr — whose sister Asherey Ryan was among the victims in the Thursday wreck — expressed sympathy for Nicole Lorraine Linton, 37, who allegedly caused the crash after she blew a red light at a Los Angeles intersection.

“I just want to tell her that we forgive her,” Kerr told news station KTLA.

“She will have to live with this for the rest of her life. That’s why she was spared. We understand it already.”

On Thursday about 1:40 pm, a Mercedes-Benz sped through a red light before it slammed into through traffic, video of the tragic crash obtained by RMG News shows.

Investigators allege that Linton – a nurse with Kaiser Permanente’s West Los Angeles Medical Center – was driving over 100 miles per hour in a 35 mph zone, Fox 11 reported.

Ryan’s unborn child, her 11-month-old son Alonzo Quintero and her boyfriend Reynold Lester all died in the collision. Lester had reportedly been driving her to a prenatal checkup at the time of the crash.

Six minors and two adults were also injured in the wreck.

In the interview Saturday, Ryan’s sister said she was her “first best friend.”

“The first person I knew. The first person I probably had a conversation with,” she said at a gathering at the site of the crash. She’s my only big sister. Every day we take our sons outside and we walk them around the block. Cada dia. The neighbors know us. Today, I had to take that walk alone with my son.”

Texas alleged drunk driver Miguel Espinoza leaves 4 dead in golf cart crash

Four people were killed and two others seriously injured in Texas when an alleged drunk driver blew a stop sign and caused a collision, cops said.

The two adults and two kids were traveling in a golf cart in Galveston when Miguel Espinoza, 45, allegedly flew through a stop sign and hit both the cart and a pickup truck at around 11:30 pm Saturday, according to Galveston police.

The golf cart driver was pronounced dead at the scene, while a woman and two juvenile passengers were rushed to an area hospital, where all three died.

The two remaining passengers, an adult and a juvenile, remain hospitalized in critical condition Sunday, police said.

Espinoza, of Rosenberg, TX, and his passenger suffered minor injuries and were treated in the hospital and released.

Espinoza was subsequently charged with four counts of intoxication manslaughter. He is being held in Galveston County jail on a $400,000 bond, police said.

The occupants of the pickup truck were unharmed.

The victims’ names and ages have not yet been released. Galveston police said they are members of two different families who had rented the golf cart, which they were legally driving on the city street.

Golf carts have become a popular transportation mode in the resort area roughly 50 miles southeast of Houston and city officials have created ordinances aimed at making them safer.

Car carrying Rep. Jackie Walorski caused Indiana crash: cops

The SUV carrying US Rep Jackie Walorski crossed the centerline of an Indiana highway on Wednesday, sparking the head-on collision that killed the representative and three others, according to new information from the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office.

The law enforcement agency had initially told reporters that the second vehicle, driven by Edith Schmucker, 56, of Nappanee, Indiana, had crossed the centerline and caused the collision.

“The information from the preliminary investigation at the scene, as to the direction of travel of the vehicles, was not correct,” the Sheriff’s office said in a statement Thursday.

Walorski, 58, was riding in a Toyota Rav 4 driven by St. Joseph County Republican Party chairman Zachery Potts, 27, when the SUV “crossed the centerline for reasons that are unknown,” the Sheriff’s office said.

The Illinois dad whose wife, four kids and young family friend were killed in a head-on highway crash has also died, making him the eighth fatality in the horrid weekend smash.

Both vehicles “became engulfed in flames,” killing the 22-year-old Acura driver, Jennifer Fernandez, as well as Dobosz’s wife and four kids, along with a 13-year-old family friend who was with them.

Fernandez had been alone in the Acura at the time of the accident, which is still under investigation, cops said. It’s unclear why the Acura TSX was heading the wrong way.

She was pronounced dead at the scene along with all seven passengers in Dobosz’s van, police said.

The fundraiser identified them as his 31-year-old wife, Lauren Dobosz; their children, Ella, 5, Nicholas, 7, Lucas, 8, and Emma, 13; and the teen’s friend Katriona Koziara, who was also 13. The family, from suburban Chicago, had just started traveling to Minnesota for a vacation before the smash in rural Riley.

A separate fundraiser for Katriona said “she was in the prime of her youth and always seen with a smiling face and positive attitude.”
