Future of Prince Edward and Sophie, Countess of Wessex’s roles in monarchy under threat, expert claims

the future of Prince Edward and Sophie, the Countess of Wessex’s roles within the monarchy could be under threat once Charles is King, a royal expert has speculated.

amid reports prince charles will pursue a “slimmed down” royal family upon his accession to the throne, a royal insider has claimed the Queen’s youngest son and his wife may no longer have a part to play.

speaking on the DailyExpress podcast royal roundupcorrespondent Richard Palmer said there is a big “question mark” hanging over the pair’s future as working royals.

“The other big question mark is over Edward and Sophie,” Palmer told host Pandora Forsyth. “Many people had assumed that they would have a role.”

Palmer said the Prince of Wales may not make room for non-senior members of the royal family, including Edward and Sophie, who have previously been dubbed the Queen’s “favourites”.

“There would be no role for any of the non-working members of the Royal Family under King Charles,” the royal expert revealed.

He said this new regime could also include axing the role of Princess Annewho is widely regarded as the hardest working royal.

“When they got married, it was made clear that the Queen’s intention was for Edward to inherit the title of Duke of Edinburgh, after his father’s death,” Palmer said of Edward and Sophie.

However, Palmer speculated “that title has gone back to the Crown, I think.”

“It is, by no means, certain what’s going to happen”, he added.

Last year, reports Prince Charles had plans to “slim down” the monarchy once he is crowned King Charles.

The royal reportedly wants to focus on a smaller group of senior royals, which eleven would have included Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

A royal source told Us Weekly this also prompted Prince William to start thinking about how he will change the monarchy in the future.

According to The Sun, William and Kate already have plans to reduce the size of their staff compared to Prince Charles’ once the Duke of Cambridge is promoted to Prince of Wales.

The couple also want to have more small-scale solo trips for individual royals rather than funneling money into big-production royal tours.

“William and Kate will modernize how they work. It’s a breath of fresh air,” a royal source explained to the publication.

“They’re trying to work out what that will look like. It is not a criticism of how it was done in the past. But times are changing.”

Having grown up amid the glitz and glam of Hollywood, away from the camera the two women cemented their friendship as they bonded over their love of nature and horses.

Writing for The Mirror, Susan recalled the pair meeting as teens and growing a lifelong friendship, remarking that the film star ‘filled my heart and head with pride.’

Detailing Olivia’s rise to fame thanks to her role as Sandy in Grease, Susan said: ‘I was with her through the making, and at the premiere in London and when our stretch limo was mobbed, she was staggered and playfully humbled by all the amazing attention. Did she ever know how beautiful she was? No, never, and that was part of her magic.’

She went on to say that while Olivia enjoyed the swanky premieres, parties and lunches that fame brought, the Australian beauty felt happiest when she was surrounded by horses, calling Susan’s stud farm her ‘sanctuary’.

The TV star went on to remember several funny moments they shared throughout the years, including a hilarious moment that she struggled to control Olivia’s Shetland ponies – the Grease star filmed and Susan still has the ‘precious video’.

She added that despite the pair living far apart, they were ‘always there for one other’ no matter what, through the ‘good times and bad’.

Speaking of when Olivia was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1992, Susan told how Olivia had a ‘sort of acceptance’, adding that the star ‘knew’ that she could use her battle as a ‘platform to help others’, and had ‘ no seed of doubt’ that she’d survive it.

Indeed Olivia did go on to survive, having battled the disease twice more before finally succumbing to it earlier this month.

Detailing their last phone call, Susan said: ‘We spoke a few weeks ago and had the longest talk about times past and present, laughed a lot and I worried that it might have been too tiring, but she insisted not.

‘She seemed to have things she wanted to get out and share and I will always treasure what was devastatingly to be our last conversation.’

Reese Witherspoon and ex Ryan Phillippe reunite for son’s high school DIY graduation

Reese Witherspoon reunited with ex-husband and Cruel Intentions co-star Ryan Phillippe to celebrate their son’s high school graduation in DIY-style.

Deacon Reese Phillippe, 18, who was homeschooled, graduated high school in June. But the proud parents were determined to pull out all the stops and give Deacon a home graduation to remember.

In a video posted to Instagram, Deacon walks out to the classic “Pomp and Circumstance”, draped in a bright orange gown, a matching cap and completed the look with some black sunglasses.

Phillippe, dressed as a principal, and two friends stood at the head of the backyard pool in ceremonial robes waiting to hand Deacon his high school diploma.

And with a big cheer from friends and family behind the camera, Deacon shakes their hands and accepts his certificate – tassel moved to the other side — and lets out a great big “yeah!” before throwing his cap in the air.

Witherspoon proudly watched her son graduate—and then fished the cap out of the pool.

She posted her own tribute to Deacon on Instagram congratulating him on his graduation.

“So proud of the thoughtful, talented, kind & generous young man you have become,” the post read. “You light up our hearts and make us proud everyday.”

The certified “valedritorian” shared his own pictures to Instagram as well including a close-up of his diploma signed by his parents.

Deacon is the second child of Witherspoon and Phillippe who also have a 22-year-old daughter, Ava, pursuing a career in both modeling and acting.

Despite their split in 2006, Witherspoon and Phillippe appear to have maintained a friendly relationship.

Witherspoon is currently married to Hollywood agent Jim Toth with whom she shares her nine-year-old son Tennessee.

Dean Bishop, 31, and Madison Grace King, 31

Just a few weeks after emigrating to Australia from Northern England in 2015, Dean met Madison and the rest was history.

The couple, Dean an offshore pipe fitter and Madison a primary school teacher, got engaged while holidaying in Bali in 2018 and finally said ‘I do’ on December 20, 2021 after pandemic-related delays.

Although special family members from the UK couldn’t make the ceremony, a special video of well-wishes from Australian icon Shannon Noll put a smile on everyone’s face at the reception.

In a true sign of the times, the couple decided on the hashtag #bishoptakestheking for the occasion, which made all of their chess-loving attendees chuckle.

Madison’s father survived a severe cardiac arrest just days before his daughter’s big day, but in a heartwarming miracle, he was able to walk her down the aisle alongside her mother, making for an emotional father-daughter dance afterwards.

The lovebirds started dating in early 2010, and they tied the knot in a low-key ceremony in December that year.

Georgie Stone and Rebekah Robertson

Assigned male at birth, Georgie Stone, 22, was a toddler when she told her mother, Rebekah Robertson, 55, that she was a girl. Both actors, they have since fought to improve life for trans kids – between countless cups of tea.

Georgie Stone says having her mum, Rebekah Robertson, on her side “was everything. I wouldn't be alive without her.”

Georgia: I was a playful kid with a big imagination. mum and dad [actor Greg Stone] would direct these home videos and my twin brother and I loved it. Mum once played a snake, wriggling around on the floor in a sleeping bag; she committed fully, and that included parenting. I knew she loved being our mother.

loading

I disagree with people saying I was born a boy because nothing about me, in any meaningful way, was male. I remember watching cinderella at about three and thinking, “That’s me. I’m not the prince. I’m not the mouse. I’m Cinderella.”

I don’t think my parents had ever heard of trans kids. They knew of trans people, but just through the media; they were either in prison or prostitutes. Still, Mum’s reaction was, “Let’s find out what this is and how we can support her.” Dad’s [initial] reaction was more to stop it. He might have thought Mum was encouraging it.

When I started school, I was still using male pronouns and my dead name; I started to transition around seven. Boys in year 5 would call me a freak and follow me around, asking, “Are you a boy or a girl?” It felt the message there was something wrong with me, which deep down I believed. But Mum was always that place of comfort; she’d tell me I was okay. Other parents accused her of child abuse, of causing my trans-ness, which is bullshit.

“Mum tells me the instinct as a woman is to make yourself smaller, so she encourages me not to do that.”

I started on puberty blockers before I turned 11 and did that until 17 or 18. There were lots of injections and I’d get anxious every time, so Mum bought me a bracelet and, with every injection, she’d add a charm representing something in my life, like a witch because I loved Hermione in Harry Potter. There were 27 by the end.

Having Mum on my side was everything. I wouldn’t be alive without her. When I was seven, I told her things would be easier if I were dead. I felt like a burden when we had to go to court [at 10, to access puberty blockers], because that put a strain on my parents. They separated when I was 13 and I thought it might have been my fault, but they told me it wasn’t. When I was 15, we had to go back to court to access gender-affirming hormones, and I’d see Mum on the phone, almost tearing her hair out with stress. She was running a support group, working full-time as a voice actor, cooking dinner every night. She was exhausted.

Melbourne socialite and philanthropist dies at 92

“Hairdressing was her love and what she made her living from,” Jackie said. “People flocked together and she realized that, ‘Hey, I can make a difference here. I can do something’.”

Lillian Frank often told a story to her daughters of their grandmother having a locked room at their home in India to collect dowries for women who could not afford to marry.

“Her mother said to her, ‘charity should be seen behind closed doors’,” Jackie said. “She got it from her mother de ella.”

Fashion designer Alex Perry remembered Frank as “brilliant in real life” and a force in Melbourne fashion through hairdressing and the horseracing scene.

“She was one of those incredible people who was always completely energetic,” Perry said.

“[She was] a tireless charity fundraiser, and that gets sometimes eclipsed by the pure joy she had at the Melbourne Cup where she would have the most outrageous hats.”

Victorian Labor minister Jaala Pulford said the community stood in solidarity with Frank’s family.

“We express our deepest condolences to them at what’s a really difficult time,” Pulford said on Saturday. “We thank her for her from her … from her incredible presence from her, her from her incredible work from her in business and in the community.”

Frank wrote a gossip column for the Herald Sun for decades.

Frank is survived by husband Richard, daughters Jackie and Michelle, and grandchildren Ella and Charlie.
