Jerry and Marge have won the lottery not once, but too many times to count — and luck had nothing to do with it.
Jerry and Marge Selbee are multimillionaires but you wouldn’t know it to look at them.
They’ve lived in the same home they’ve had for 65 years in the tiny town of Evart, Michigan.
This modest existence belies the extraordinary life they’ve been living since retiring in 2003.
Jerry and Marge Selbee are multimillionaires, but you wouldn’t know it to look at them. (60 Minutes)
Jerry and Marge have won the lottery not once, but too many times to count — and luck had nothing to do with it.
“It was just simple maths. Anyone could have done it,” Jerry said.
Jerry had always been good with numbers, so when he saw a new lotto game being advertised, he picked a loophole very few others did.
‘I did not have to be lucky to win. I had to be unlucky to lose’
The game, called WinFall, had a unique feature: if the jackpot reached US$5 million ($7 million) and failed to go off, the money would roll down to ticket holders with fewer winning numbers.
“I looked at the probabilities of the game and it said that when the WinFall actually occurred and no one won the jackpot, that the prize level would go up by a factor of 10,” Jerry said.
They’ve lived in the same home they’ve had for 65 years in the tiny town of Evart, Michigan. (60 Minutes)
“US$50 for a three-number winner and US$1,000 for a four-number winner and the odds were one in, one in 56 and a half for a three-number winner and one in 1032 for a four-number winner.”
While it dramatically improved players’ chances of cashing in, Jerry quickly realized it could also be exploited.
“Most people are conditioned that [the] lottery is structured so that if you’re lucky, you win,” he told reporter Liz Hayes.
“I did not have to be lucky to win. I had to be unlucky to lose.”
60 Minutes reporter Liz Hayes. (60 Minutes)
Once he worked out how often the jackpot went off, he tentatively decided to put his maths to the test — and it worked.
“I think what was making me nervous is trying to believe in myself,” he laughed.
“I think it was so easy that it was hard for me to believe.”
Jerry spent weeks secretly withdrawing his hard-earned retirement cash to buy more tickets, before he finally decided to come clean to his wife of 65 years.
I did not have to be lucky to win. I had to be unlucky to lose. He said. (60 Minutes)
“I knew it was time to tell her because my next play was going to be US$15,000 (about $21,000),” he recalled.
To his surprise, Marge was on board right away and joined him in the lucrative syndicate.
“He does this stuff all the time, so I believed him,” Marge told 60 minutes.
Before too long, they had started making millions, but it wasn’t easy winnings.
After 65 years together, it seemed there was still plenty of the Selbees could learn about each other. (60 Minutes)
The couple had to buy hundreds of thousands of tickets, a process that became more complicated when the WinFall was shut down in Michigan.
‘It was not about what he would buy, it’s about the joy of winning, of playing the game, of being involved’
They found another lottery with the same feature 1600 kilometers away in Massachusetts, but it meant driving for 15 hours to keep the money rolling in.
“I would start at 5am in the morning,” Jerry recalled.
“And then I would quit for the evening about 6pm or 7pm so that I could take her to dinner.”
Not much has changed for Jerry and Marge since making their fortune. (60 Minutes)
Unsurprisingly, their highly successful scheme eventually caught the attention of suspicious investigators.
But Jerry and Marge were doing nothing wrong — they’d simply done the maths, looking at the lotto as a game of strategy instead of a game of chance.
Their remarkable story seems tailor-made for the silver screen, so it comes as no surprise it has been turned into a film for streaming service Paramount+.
‘It gives you purpose, because once you retire, what do you do with all that time?’
Playing Jerry in Jerry and Marge Go Large is Breaking Bad’s Bryan Cranston, who didn’t think it was ever really about the money.
“It was not about what he would buy, it’s about the joy of winning, of playing the game, of being involved,” the actor said.

“I think my favorite part of the whole story is that this adventure for Jerry and Marge created an opportunity to reignite that romantic flare.”
The real Jerry agrees. After 65 years together, it seemed there was still plenty of the Selbees could learn about each other.
“We learned that we could work together, that we could travel together,” Jerry said.
“I loved her just as much then and now as I did when I was 15.”
Jerry and Marge have won the lottery not once but too many times to count and luck had nothing to do with it. (60 Minutes)
Not much has changed for Jerry and Marge since making their fortune, which they’ve spent mainly on education for their grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
It seems they wanted nothing more than a little excitement.
“It was something to do and something to look forward to every couple of months,” Marge said.
“It gives you purpose, because once you retire, what do you do with all that time?”
Yesterday, Hoyoverse showed off what will be Genshin Impact’s most significant expansion to date, the addition of new continent Sumeru into the game, which unlike Inazuma, also adds a totally new elemental type, Dendro.
In addition to the trailers and features revealed in the special program, we also got a release date for version 3.0 and the addition of Sumeru, along with a schedule for the next few patches after that. So, unless anything changes, we have:
Version 3.0 (Sumeru update) – August 24, 2022
Version 3.1 – September 28, 2022
Version 3.2 – November 2, 2022
Version 3.3 – December 7, 2022
What’s interesting to note here is that 3.0, 3.1 and 3.2 will all be five weeks long instead of the usual six, indicating a faster turnaround for updates, so that will mean more new content more quickly, and more new Sumeru characters added faster. We are only getting three new Sumeru characters to start in 3.0, Collei, Tighnari and Dori.
Genshin Impact
holeverse
Hoyoverse may be trying to play catch-up, as Shanghai COVID lockdowns delayed past patches and got them off schedule a bit. There are few games in the live service space that add this much content to their games so quickly, and I remain impressed after all this time the pace at which Hoyoverse keeps updating Genshin. Six week patch schedules with usually decently significant additions is one thing, but knocking that down to five weeks now? wow.
What’s clear is that Hoyoverse wants to hit the ground running with Sumeru, and after this, there are three more continents to be added to the game, so presumably the map will be “complete” in another three years once that is fully realized. Another advantage of Genshin Impact is that you can take a long time off and not feel like you’re “behind,” given that you can catch up with key old story quests, and if you had a good roster before, they are not going to be out power-leveled for new content or anything. A good core team can take you through the entire game and all these updates for free, though Genshin has done a good job of making its gacha characters feel like must-haves just because they look cool and are fun to play, even if they are not “necessary” for 99% of any content in the game.
More to come soon, and just 10 days to go until launch.

Jennifer Lopez has firmly planted herself on the side of team britney amid the popstar’s ‘feud’ with Kevin Federline.
On Friday, Spears posted a throwback photo of herself at the 2001 VMA’s alongside J-Lo, quoting the marry me star in the caption.
“As Jennifer Lopez once said,” she wrote, “‘You look right down that camera and tell every little girl in the world to get loud and never ever back down to giving light to injustice’!!! I’m here to share that freedom is a state of mind !!! GOD BLESS U ALL.”

Lopez commented with three heart emojis, then reposted the photo adding a sticker that reads “stay strong”.
The photo has since been deleted by Spears, but in the caption, she also reflected on “independence” and “equality.”
“In a world where you have the right to use your feet 🦶… heart ❤️ … mouth 👄 … eyes 👀 … and body… to express yourself however you may 😁 !!! Declaration of INDEPENDENCE … for equality and to be equal 🤝 !! Not even touching, covering, and holding me against my will for 4 months!!!”
The caption seems to be in reference to Spears’ ex-husband, Kevin Federline, posting old videos of her earlier this week. In the clips, it appears that the ‘Toxic’ singer is arguing with her and scolding her two sons, Sean and Jayden.

If you’re a fan of the Apple Watch Edition in its ceramic finish, there could be good news on the horizon. It comes in the form of a new patent that specifies a Zirconia-based ceramic material that could be used in future Watch models. Even more intriguingly, it could be used for the iPhone as well.
MORE FROM FORBESApple Could Release iPhone 14 And iPhone 14 Pro Sooner Than ExpectedBy David Phelan
The patent is called “Electronic Devices with Textured Zirconia-Based Components” and promises a matte finish. It says it can give “a matte appearance to an exterior surface of an electronic device. The texture of the enclosure component may also be configured so that it has one or more tactile properties suitable for use as a wearable device and can be readily cleaned.” It can also be configured to “provide a particular “feel” to the electronic device” and “may be configured so that the zirconia-based component substantially retains its strength and impact resistance.” Although it doesn’t give full details of the material, it specifies that “The zirconia-based component may be formed of a ceramic such as a partially stabilized zirconia ceramic or an alumina toughened zirconia ceramic.”

It could be used as a side surface (such as the case that wraps around the display on an Apple Watch, it seems) or a rear cover for another device. The images suggest that the rear of an iPhone is the focus here and Apple could use this material instead of the toughened glass currently on the back of its phones. Additionally, the matte finish suggests that it could be used for the Pro models in the iPhone range, as the main part of the back of the phone is matte-finish and only the camera panel is gloss.
The image in the patent even shows a central circular panel, perhaps to indicate that the Apple logo would be located there (and would doubtless be as shiny as it is on current phones).
Ceramic has been used on mobile phones before including handsets from Xiaomi and Samsung. It’s a material usually reserved for high-end devices, but has never been used for the iPhone.
As with all patents, there’s no certainty that Apple will implement such a design change soon or even at all. But the prospects of a ceramic iPhone and another ceramic Apple Watch are intriguing.

Taylor Swift she already has 11 Grammys and an Emmy to her name, but she could potentially be adding an Oscar to her award collection next year.
The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that the star’s recent project All Too Well: The Short Film has qualified to be eligible for a nomination in the Best Live Action Short category at next year’s Academy Awards.
The outlet reported that Swift is apparently in talks with a “top consulting firm to guide [the project’s] awards campaign,” to increase her chances of a nomination.

The ‘I’d Lie’ singer directed the short film to accompany the release of her ten-minute song ‘All Too Well’ last November on Red (Taylor’s Version). The film stars Dylan O’Brien and Sadie Sink.
The eligibility window for best live-action short is different from that for feature films — anything released from October 1, 2021, to September 30 2022 can be nominated.

Though this is Swift’s first short film, she has directed six of her own music videos in the past, including those for ‘cardigan’, ‘The Man’, and ‘ME!’.
If everything goes her way, Swift could even walk home with two Oscars at next year’s ceremony. In June, the singer wrote and recorded the track ‘Carolina’ to accompany the film Where The Crawdads Sing. As it’s the first song to appear in the movie’s credit sequence, it’s eligible to be nominated for Best Original Song.

Saints Row launches for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on August 23rd. Although this will be the sixth installment to the Saints Row series, Deep Silver has made the decision to reboot the franchise with their upcoming release.
The most recent entries in the Saints Row series have been known for the over-the-top and wacky gameplay, but 2022’s Saints Row will reportedly be a return to the franchise’s roots. Many are hesitant about the reboot, but whether you plan on picking up Saints Row based on excitement or just pure curiosity, here’s everything you need to know about the pre-load date and file size on PlayStation consoles.
DUALSHOCKERS VIDEO OF THE DAY

It’s worth noting that this file size doesn’t Don’t take into account any possible patches that are released between now and the launch, as this could increase the overall file size for the game.
The file size for PC and Xbox consoles is currently unknown, but players can likely expect it to be around the same size, give or take a few GB.
Saints Row will release on Tuesday, August 23rd 2022 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
With Marvel’s first three phases, the commitment was essentially two films a year. Sure there were series available for those who wanted them, but they had no bearing on the films and weren’t required for viewing.
With the current fourth and upcoming fifth and sixth phases though, that’s changed and is now clocking in at around 3-4 films per year and 4-6 series of around 6-9 episodes each. That’s a lot of product, enough it’s turning away some more casual viewers whilst reviews for the projects in the recent phase were rather muted with talk swirling of “quality dip”.
Appearing on Vulture’s Into It podcast, “Watchmen” and “The Leftovers” showrunner Damon Lindelof has offered an easy solution that sticks by the mantra less is more:
“It’s always going to be hard because once you’ve got someone’s attention, you want to keep it. So the idea of letting it go and not knowing if you’re ever going to get it back again is sort of like, it’s antithetical to the way that we’re wired.
From a slightly sort of more cynical standpoint, this is a business. It’s an industry. And if you make a couple of great Marvel movies, the instinct is, ‘We need to make more Marvel movies, and we need to expand this.’ And I have this sort of inner feeling of like,’Wow, I wish they made less because it would make each one that came out a little bit more special. But I watch all of them. … People don’t want things to end. Gone.”
Lindelof, however is well aware of the current state of the entertainment industry and its fixation of megafranchise, and how he himself has benefited from that:
“I don’t begrudge them the right to keep it going. I’ve made prequels and sequels and reboots, so I can’t be a hypocrite and say, ‘God, come up with an original idea.’ Meanwhile, I’m making two ‘Star Trek’ movies and ‘Prometheus.’”
One person who is standing up for the glut of new Marvel content is “She-Hulk: Attorney At Law” star Mark Ruffalo. Asked by Metro UK about the studio potentially releasing too much, Ruffalo says he doesn’t think so:
“It’s not something I worry about. I understand that these things run their course and then something else comes along. But the thing Marvel has done well is that, inside the MCU, just as they do with comic books, they let a director or an actor sort of recreate each piece to their own style, their likeness. Marvel generally lets them bring that to the material.
If you watch a ‘Star Wars,’ you’re pretty much going to get the same version of ‘Star Wars’ each time. It might have a little bit of humour. It might have a little bit of different animation. But you’re always, really, in that same kind of world. But with Marvel, you can have a whole different feeling, even within the Marvel Universe.”
While Marvel shows do offer a larger span of genres than the “Star Wars” franchise, it remains fairly surface level as complaints about the sameness of works in the MCU, from their visual looks to their pacing, remain.
“She-Hulk: Attorney At Law” is the next MCU work on the way, that series launching this coming Thursday, August 18th. The “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” film opens in November whilst two TV specials – a Halloween-themed one and a “Guardians of the Galaxy” Christmas-themed one – arrive before the year’s out.
Chemtech Drake is arguably one of the most infamous dragon souls within League of Legends. The buff that it provided and the way in which it altered the entire map were so obnoxious that the developers themselves decided to just ban it across the board.
However, it seems that, along with pre-season 2023, the developers are finally ready to introduce Chemtech Drake back into the game. The changes that it is set to receive have been discussed in this article in detail.
It is tough to predict how fans will react to the Chemtech Drake’s return, as it was quite an issue before. However, the changes to the dragon soul are likely to make it much more balanced this time around.
Chemtech soul will no longer revive champions within League of Legends
The previous version of Chemtech soul is often considered the strongest and most obnoxious in the list for a pretty valid reason. This is because, once the soul was obtained, it provided champions with a sort of ‘last stand’ type ability, where they would revive for a few seconds and were able to deal damage before dying shortly after.
As expected, these vital few seconds made a massive difference in fights as it prevented the team without the Chemtech soul from gaining any substantial gold lead. Besides that, once the Chemtech Drake took over the map, it created camouflage zones everywhere.
Put that chemtech drake back in the basement i’m so serious I can already feel it getting removed again within 2 weeks
Put that chemtech drake back in the basement i’m so serious I can already feel it getting removed again within 2 weeks
This, in turn, made pink ward management a nightmare for players. With the developers failing to find a proper solution to this, they decided to remove it from the game for the time being.
Changes to Chemtech Drake in League of Legends
As it so happens, the developers seem to have found a solution to the issues mentioned earlier, as the new Chemtech Soul will no longer briefly revive champions. Instead, it will now provide additional damage as well as damage reduction when their health is low.
Along with this change, once the Chemtech Drake takes over the map, interactive plants will become mutated. This means that Scryer’s Bloom will now grant movement speed while chasing revealed enemies and Blast Cone will fling players further than before.
Hello @RiotPhroxzon, I’ve just seen the new LoL Pls video, the changes to communication & vision seem really cool, also pretty excited about chemtech drake coming back. I have to admit though, I’m pretty disappointed to here nothing about toplane and seeing jungle changed again.

For clarity, players will be able to travel from the blue buff to the mid lane by simply using the Blast Cone once the Chemtech Drake takes over.
Out of all these changes, the mutation aspect is definitely interesting. However, the increased damage and damage reduction can be problematic, especially if there is a champion like Tryndamere on the team.
Perhaps, this may be something that League of Legends developers will need to balance once the Chemtech Drake returns to Summoner’s Rift.
Meghan Markle ‘deliberately’ proved Harry ‘unpopularity’ at UN: ‘Paves way for politics’
Meghan Markle deliberately tired to undermine Prince Harry as the lesser popular royal between the two, says expert.
The Duke of Sussex, who delivered a keynote speech in front on empty chairs in NYC, could have been saved if Meghan hired the right PR.
Richard Hillgrove says the move was a “very deliberate attempt” to demonstrate Harry’s flunking popularity.
Mr Hillgrove told Express.co.uk: “We all need to feel very sorry for Harry who has been hung out to dry.
“But this was always on the cards from day one, in fact well before day one.”
Harry’s closed ones “tried to warn him” of the risks of marrying the former Suits actress, Mr Hillgrove claimed.
He said: “Photographs of the eleven-charismatic idol performing to empty chairs spells the end of the publicity dream.”
He added: “This is a very deliberate attempt to display to the world the number one crime for any high profile personality, that ‘Harry is just not popular anymore’.
“Jettisoning Harry paves the way for Meghan’s US Presidential ambitions, which Harry can’t play any part in any way.”
“What we are watching is the gradual steps towards disposal.”
