Rory Lobb put on a first half show that left several greats of the game speechless.

The Fremantle forward could not miss as he slotted three utterly absurd goals from three kicks to lead his side to a dominant halftime lead.

Lobb has been linked with a move out of Fremantle at season’s end with his rumored landing spot said to be the Western Bulldogs.

Going up against the Dogs on Saturday afternoon, Lobb put forth the greatest job interview you’re likely to see as her ran riot under the roof at Marvel Stadium.

Lobb got the party started in the first quarter with a goal from outside 50, but it was two bombs in the second quarter that left AFL legend Jason Dunstall astonished.

Hugged up against the boundary and 50m from home, Lobb launched his second kick of the game straight through the big sticks.

Less than five minutes later he was back in the thick of it in the exact same spot.

“He couldn’t kick this could he? He’s kicked two rippers from only two kicks in the game, this would be spectacular,” Dunstall said.

Cameron Mooney chimed in with: “Mark this down, Chief.”

As Lobb began his walk into goal, he set sail for his third goal and Dunstall knew straight away it was home. The commentary box couldn’t believe what they were watching.

Dunstall: “Oh don’t tell me.”

Dwayne Russell: “He’s struck it pretty well… awesome, amazing.”

Gary Lyon: “That is as good an exhibition of three kicks at goal since Plugger Lockett.”

Mooney: “Three of the best bombs you’ll see.”

Dunstall: “They’re the three best kicks from a three kick player to have three goals. Extraordinary.”

Lobb’s ludicrous display left not only legends of the game in awe, but had fans watching on in utter disbelief.

Lobb continued the onslaught in the second half when he flushed his fourth goal from his fourth kick of the contest.

He showed he was human midway through the third quarter however when he missed back-to-back set shots.

The Herald Sun’s Jon Ralph reported rival clubs expect the 29-year old, who’s contracted at Fremantle for 2023, to be traded to the Western Bulldogs at season’s end as he seeks a three-year, $1.5 million deal.

AFL great Jason Dunstall has never shied away from sledging a fellow former star of the game and on Saturday he was at his best.

In the first quarter of the game between the Western Bulldogs and Fremantle at Marvel Stadium, Dunstall took aim at Luke Darcy.

Darcy was riding high in the days before the game after his son, Sam, was named to make his AFL debut for the Bulldogs.

Sam recorded his first touch of his career in the early minutes after an intercept mark.

Not long after he had his second disposal of the game and Dunstall saw an opportunity and took it with both hands.

“He’s already had one more possession than his father did on debut,” Dunstall savagely said on Fox Footy..

The remark drew some laughs from within the commentary box before Dunstall remarked: “Maybe too soon.”

Luke Darcy’s debut came in round 21, 1994 when the Bulldogs defeated St Kilda 117-72, Darcy ended the contest with two handballs to his name.

Sam eclipsed his disposal tally in the second quarter when he recorded his third kick of the contest.

The 19-year-old was taken as the second pick in the 2021 AFL Draft as a father-son selection with his debut announced on Thursday afternoon.

Standing at a towering 205cm tall, the teenager produced a stunning display last weekend in the VFL with 20 disposals and pulled down 14 marks.

He becomes the third generation from the Darcy family to pull on the Dogs guernsey, Luke had a stellar 226 game career with David Darcy playing 133 games.

Luke presented Sam with his jumper in a heartwarming video uploaded to social media by the Bulldogs on Friday.

Craig McRae says he wants Jordan De Goey to stay at Collingwood Magpies, Brayden Maynard, contract talks, latest, trade news, rumours, whispers, St Kilda Saints

Collingwood coach Craig McRae says he’d “love” Jordan De Goey to stay at the club beyond this season amid uncertainty around the star free agent’s future.

De Goey was influential with 25 disposals, 10 contested, one goal and nine clearances in the Magpies’ thrilling seven-point win over Melbourne on Friday night, a performance McRae believes was “his best game of the year.”

Collingwood pulled a $3.2 million contract offer to De Goey after his Bali exploits earlier this year and put off contract talks with the star midfielder/forward until season’s end as rival clubs including St Kilda circle.

And speaking after the Pies’ 11th-straight win on Friday night, McRae hoped De Goey would recommit to the club.

“He’s a free agent. That’s his right to explore his options. I speak authentically; I’d love Jordy to stay. I would,” the Magpies coach said.

“That’s going to create a headline but we’ll just live in the moment and let Jordy keep being himself in our environment and make us better. Nights like tonight are good examples of his assets from him that makes us better.

“I thought it was his best game for the year. I thought he was a star. I thought I genuinely flipped the game around clearance.

“We couldn’t get the ball out of center bounces, we got smashed in there again and he just had this shrug the shoulders and swagger to get out of traffic.”

It comes a week after De Goey was best-on-ground in Collingwood’s win over Port Adelaide after returning from a three-game absence with a quad issue.

Teammate and close friend Brayden Maynard also wanted to see the De Goey stay in the black and white beyond 2023.

“He’s not going anywhere, I’ll make sure of that. I haven’t had a chat with him about it, but I’m sure he’ll make the right call,” he told Fox Footy post-match.

“If we want to leave, then he leaves, but I’m in his ear at the moment. I just want what’s best for him, so just got to be with him.”

The 25-year old’s contact negotiations are one of several big ticket items for Collingwood to address ahead of an eventful off-season, with Brodie Grundy’s future also uncertain as the Pies have been linked to the likes of Dan McStay, Tim Taranto and Bobby Hill .

De Goey has averaged a career-best 21.1 disposals per contest this season and booted 15 goals from as many games as he plays for arguably the most significant contract extension of his career.

St Kilda legend Nick Riewoldt thinks De Goey staying at the Magpies on a shorter deal might be in his best interests to stay “on the edge” instead of taking up a more lucrative offer elsewhere.

“I think that’s what you weigh up and the situation that’s going to bring the best out of yourself,” he said on Fox Footy.

“If being on the edge and only having a two-year deal is going to mean you make really good decisions in terms of your career, then maybe that’s the best thing for him.

“Rather than just looking at big carrot financially and security, maybe playing on the edge might be the best alternative.”

There is “no reason” why Collingwood can’t win the 2022 premiership, according to David King, with the club even compared to the ‘Baby Bombers’ of 1993.

The Magpies are running hot on a 10-match winning streak to sit in third – just one win off top spot after 20 rounds.

And while the criticism has been that they’ve beaten 11th, 12th, 14th, 15th, 16th and 18th in that run of victories, there’s also been wins over Fremantle, Carlton and Melbourne.

“You can say what you like about the numbers, the stats, the possessions,” King said on AFL360.

“They turn up for each other – this is building something quite special.

“There’s no reason why they can’t do it this year – we saw Chris Scott do it first year, we saw Rodney Eade make a grand finale his first year, (Luke) Beveridge and (John) Longmire win it in their second year – this is big, come with it.”

AFL360 co-host Mark Robinson laughed as he admitted: “I’m on the dark side already, I’m all in on Collingwood”.

“It might be the Baby Bombers of ’93 all over again,” he said.

The Essendon premiership side were dubbed Baby Bombers for having 12 players aged under 25 years in that winning team.

Against Port Adelaide last weekend, the Pies had 10 players under the age of 25, and two players currently aged 25.

King highlighted the fact Collingwood are outrunning their opponents as one of the best features of their game.

“I don’t know how you can just put a line through them,” he said.

“They are doing this better than the comp – they are gut running. Their running and power running is enabling them to end up with an extra number.

“Their run and link, kick forward, their demand for corridor we all see. But we don’t recognize their desire to just work harder than the opposition.

“This is a club in sync.”

King said every club needed a point of difference to win the AFL premiership.

“Maybe (Collingwood’s) is not in the stats, it’s on effort. It’s on a buy-in. (Craig McRae) may just be a special coach,” King said.

“What I do love is what they are doing for each other.”

Statistics show that the Pies share one similar trait with the premiers of the past two seasons – Melbourne and Richmond – and it’s their ranking for what they without the footy.

The Magpies are currently the best ranked team in the competition – like Melbourne were in 2021, while Richmond were ranked fourth when they took the flag in 2020.

Collingwood do have a tough run home with games to come against Melbourne, Sydney (away) and Carlton – who could be battling for finals by Round 23.

North Melbourne has gone “all in” on trying to sign Alastair Clarkson as their next senior coach, according to former Collingwood president Eddie McGuire.

Clarkson is currently being courted by both North and Greater Western Sydney, but McGuire believes the Kangaroos are “a real chance” of landing the four-time premiership coach.

North parted ways with former coach David Noble a month ago after just 38 games in charge and Leigh Adams has been caretaker in Noble’s stead.

“Alastair Clarkson has met with Sonja Hood, the president of the North Melbourne Football Club,” McGuire told Channel 9.

Clarkson’s manager James Henderson told McGuire that the meeting went “very well” and that it was “a worthwhile experience”.

The former Hawthorn coach plans to meet with the Kangaroos again, as well as the Giants, in the coming fortnight.

“North Melbourne have gone all in on Alastair Clarkson, there is no Plan B at the moment,” McGuire said.

“If he doesn’t go (to North) they’ll come up with a Plan B, but they’ve shown that they want him.”

McGuire believes that Clarkson is now seriously contemplating coaching again next year, rather than waiting until 2024 to re-enter the fray.

“His management have said, ‘You know you don’t have to coach next year?’ And I think he’s thought, ‘You know what? I’m a coach, so I’m going to coach’, and North are now a real chance I reckon to maybe land this bloke,” McGuire said.

“But he wants to bring his own team, and I think he’s put his team together and part of his thinking might well be do they all want to live in GWS? Or can we do this at North Melbourne?

“There’s a bit going on in this story but there’s no doubt the list at GWS attracts Alastair Clarkson, but the romance and maybe the practicalities mean that he could well be the coach of North Melbourne.”

North have not interviewed anyone else for their vacant coaching job, according to McGuire.

“Until he says, ‘No,’ Clarkson’s the man,” McGuire said.

Former St Kilda and Fremantle coach Ross Lyon liked the Kangaroos’ “singular focus” in their approach.

“They really need to go all in, it’s a really good sign,” Lyon said.

“If he can bring his key people… those real pillars of success around him, he knows what needs to be done, he knows who to bring.

“It’s a super plan and I think he gets time there. No one expected them to make the eight, they’ve got green shoots, they’ve got a young midfield.

“He’ll build a great environment.”

Jack Ginnivan says commentary has affected his mental health, interview, high tackle, holding the ball, shrugs, ducks, Collingwood Magpies vs Port Adelaide Power, video

Magpies young gun Jack Ginnivan has revealed the intense commentary around his game has “definitely taken a toll on my mental health,” but says he has strong support around him.

Ginnivan was at the center of more debate from the football world after being involved in a contentious umpiring decision during his side’s 10th consecutive win over Port Adelaide on Saturday.

It put the 19-year old in the spotlight yet again, having made headlines all season for his polarizing approach and ability to draw free kicks.

And Ginnivan admitted the heavy scrutiny has affected him in a brutally honest post-game interview.

“It’s definitely taken a toll on my mental health and all that stuff, but I’m here, happy, smiling, when you’re kicking goals and winning it’s beautiful, so (I) can’t complain,” Ginnivan told Fox Footy .

“I’ve got some strong leaders around me, Darcy Moore, Callum Brown is one of my best mates, he’s looking after me.

“My mum, my family are so amazing, they’re up here every week, so I can’t complain. ‘Fly’ (Craig McRae), he’s a beautiful human, I love him to bits and he’s looking after me day by day.”

The latest controversial umpire call on Ginnivan came midway through the second term of Collingwood’s narrow win over the Power at the MCG after the forward took possession of the ball inside forward 50.

Ginnivan then appeared to turn into a Robbie Gray tackle and get taken high, prompting the umpire to pin the Magpie for holding the ball.

Collingwood fans were vocal in letting their thoughts be known, booing loudly after the decision.

“Every time he’s tackled there’s a question among football fans,” Fox Footy commentator Mark Howard said.

It came after the AFL recently announced a crackdown of high contact interpretation for players who duck or shrug into a tackle, with umpires now instructed to pay holding the ball.

But just last week the league admitted Ginnivan should’ve been awarded a free kick for a tackle laid on him by Essendon’s Mason Redman, but said the Magpie was responsible for the high contact.

It prompted AFL legend Leigh Matthews to say he felt so “sick” and “disturbed” after watching Ginnivan not receive a free kick for the Redman tackle that he couldn’t sleep, declaring the “fabric of the game is being attacked” in passionate Pull on 3AW.

Although St Kilda great Nick Riewoldt said he believed the umpire made the right call in paying the free kick against Ginnivan during Saturday’s clash against Port.

It came amid a strong first half from Ginnivan, booting three goals, with Riewoldt praising the youngster for performing while under so much scrutiny.

“We’ve lost our minds over the last couple of weeks and this young man has been at the center of it,” Riewoldt said on Fox Footy at halftime.

“You’ve got to love the fact he comes out here on the biggest stage and with all the noise, all the talk, despite the fact he’s only a 19-year-old kid, he comes out this quarter and he absolutely lights it up.

“It’s just awesome to watch. I don’t think we’ve spoken about a 22-gamer as much as we have this guy and what has maybe gotten a lost a little bit in all of it is just how well he’s been playing.”

Former Magpies coach Nathan Buckley also thought the incident was well umpired.

“There was the one that wasn’t paid inside the forward 50 and he was a metre-and-a-half from the Port Adelaide defender and knew what he was going to do before he got there,” he said.

“There wasn’t any evasive action taken. I think that one was fair enough, as was the one on the wing.”

Triple M commentator Brian Taylor noted: “I think he’s been given life, Ginnivan! I don’t think he’ll receive a free kick again,” while others on social media were less than satisfied with the officiating of the play.
