Apex Legends plans out gifting system, cross-platform progression, and Charge Rifle nerfs

At a recent preview event for Apex Legends Season 14: Hunted, Respawn Interactive spoke about some of the back-end changes it is making to the game past this huge update.

One of the most requested features is cross-progression, the ability to play on either PC, Xbox, Switch or PlayStation and level up your account — and we can confirm that this is in the works. Design director Evan Nikolich spoke candidly about wanting to play on his Switch while he travels, and use that progression on his PC when he gets home.

Apex Legends wasn’t built with this in mind — when Apex launched back in 2019, cross-progression was not a thing developers planned for usually — so it will take time to implement correctly. The team is unknown, however, and believes it will get it working in the future.

Another requested feature is “gifting”. Theoretically, this will allow players to gift skins, voice lines, and even Apex Coins to your friends — if, for example, you happen to have a bunch of Wattson skins that you never use, you could trade with someone that has something you want .

Lastly, the Charge Rifle was talked about briefly, due to how popular it became in Season 13. While Respawn has no plans to touch the rifle in Season 14, the developer is looking at what it can do to make it “less spiky”. But for fans of the Charge Rifle, you can rest easy knowing that for Season 14, it most likely won’t receive any changes.

Diablo Immortal player spends $140,000, can’t match with others

A Diablo Immortal player dropped a heavy amount of money into the game — over $140,000 AUD — and is unable to match up with other players. The reason, the player claims, is that their power level is “so high” that they “literally can’t get a battleground.”

Youtuber “jtisallbusiness” posted a video debating refunding their expenses on Diablo Immortal, which they claim to be over $140,000 AUD. In the video, they said “I can’t do things that I spent money on this character to do, and I have no time frame of when things are going to actually be fixed, or even know if things are going to be fixed because I am the only player in the entire world with this problem.”

Diablo Immortal uses a matchmaking system that bases itself on your character’s power level. Players can spend real money on loot boxes in the game for a chance to win legendary items to increase that power level far beyond what they would obtain by playing the game for free — and spending over $140,000 on a character will bring it beyond what other players can attain.

Jtisallbusiness mentioned that they had requested help from Blizzard via their official forums and through Twitter, but the response they got was lacklustre. The developer stated that it was “aware of the issue,” but nothing has been done since. Thoroughly upset, jtisallbusiness mentioned in their video that they were considering bringing in attorneys to help iron out the business.

Previously, Blizzard CEO Mike Ybarra defended the microtransaction systems in Diablo Immortal, stating that the “vast majority” of players don’t spend any money on the game. “The philosophy was always to lead with great gameplay and make sure that hundreds of millions of people can go through the whole campaign without any costs.”

The expenses needed to “max out” your character haven’t stopped players from spending big on Diablo Immortal. It reached $140 million in revenue in the two months since its release. In other Diablo news, fans of Diablo can secure access to Diablo IV — if they get a tattoo. World famous tattoo artists will be visiting Sydney and Melbourne this September if you’re looking to demonify your skin.

Apex Legends Season 14: The return of the Skullpiercer, Volt, and G7 Scout

Every new season of Apex Legends comes with a host of changes meant to shake up the meta, from Legend tweaks to weapons getting shuffled around the availability pool. Season 14: Hunted is no different, but the new Legend, Vantage, isn’t the only change coming around — the Skullpiercer, Volt and G7 Scout are back, baby.

If you’re not familiar with the Skullpiercer, it is a rifling hop-up that was removed back in Season 9. The Skullpiercer increased either the Wingman or the Longbow’s headshot multiplier — Wingman from 2.0x to 2.25x and Longbow from 2.0x to 2.5x. In Season 14, however, the Skullpiercer will also work with the 30-30 Repeater as well, so if you’re looking for some extra pain, look no further.

But maybe you don’t like any of those weapons, and still want to pick people off at a distance. That’s fine, because the G7 Scout returns, giving you a light ammo rifle with a double-tap option. This is floor loot, so don’t expect anything game-breaking, but it’s a solid choice.

The energy SMG Volt is also making a return to floor loot, and when paired with the new laser sight attachment, you can definitely get a little more mileage out of this often overlooked weapon.

If you’re curious about what’s actually going inside crates this season, you’ll be glad to know that the Bocek Compound Bow and Rampage are making their way back in there. We don’t have specifics yet, but these will be powered up in some way to make hunting one down worth your while.

Apex Legends Season 14 switches up ammo types for Wingman, Spitfire

Tired of getting picked off by the easily accessible Wingman? Hate having to fight your teammates for heavy ammo because everyone picked up a heavy gun? Season 14 has some surprises for you then — the Wingman and Spitfire are getting some serious changes.

The Wingman was well known for being an extremely easy-to-obtain murder machine — heavy ammo is plentiful, and the Wingman deals plenty of damage. In Season 14: Hunted, the Wingman is being swapped over to Sniper ammo, bringing with it smaller stacks in a players inventory. Sniper ammo is, by design, very rare — Sniper weapons are quite powerful, so limiting ammo is a good way to balance out their destructive power.

This means that Wingman users will have to be a little bit more careful with their shot placement if they want to succeed — and it also has the effect of freeing up the heavy ammo “economy” as it were.

The Spitfire is also moving ammo types for similar reasons: too many cooks in the heavy ammo kitchen. In Season 14, the Spitfire will use light ammo and attachments. Respawn noted that heavy ammo was getting spread too thin between the many different guns that required it, so shifting these two weapons around will lighten the load, allowing for more flexibility in groups.

This also helps to differentiate the Spitfire from the Rampage — as the Ramapge is also an LMG that used heavy ammo. To sum up, your three LMGs will be Spitfire on light ammo, Rampage on heavy ammo, and Devotion on energy ammo.
