How Salt Bae’s Nusr-Et restaurant – which has made £7million in just 4 months – has proved a hit

It was inundated with negative reviews and hit headlines over its overpriced menu – yet Salt Bae’s controversial Nusr-Et restaurant in London has proved a hit with Instagrammers.

Diners have filled the social media platform with glamorous snaps showing them posing with the social media sensation or on the steakhouse’s standout stairs and showing the expensive dishes.

The Knightsbridge restaurant, part of a chain run by Turkish chef, Nusret Gökçe, who rose to viral fame back in 2017 for his unusual meat seasoning technique where he lets salt run down his elbow, made £7million of sales in its first four months.

This week, Nusret UK Limited, the company behind the steakhouse, filed financial reports to the UK’s Companies House revealing that it ‘performed higher than expected and made a profit of £2.3million in 2021.

Yet the impressive figure is hardly surprising when considering how expensive the menu at the steakhouse is.

Specials include a Golden Giant Tomahawk steak for £1,450, Golden Giant Striplion for £1,350 and Golden Kafes for £500 – while a simple burger and Red Bull will set you back £100 and £11 respectively.

David Beckham, Jason Statham and Naomi Campbell are among the famous faces to have eaten at Nusret’s restaurants – which include locations in New York, Dubai and Istanbul.

Meanwhile, Coleen Rooney and husband Wayne, Gemma Collins and Sam Thompson and Zara McDermott are some of the British celebs to have visited the London-based eatery after it opened in September 2021.

Yet just months after its highly-anticipated opening, it became one of the worst ranked restaurants on TripAdvisor after being slammed by unhappy customers online.

Diners were left less than impressed with the glitzy steakhouse, with a slew of bad reviews leaving it at number 20,491 out of 23,811 in the capital on TripAdvisor.

One person commented: ‘Do not be fooled by the glitz and glam and waste your money. Terrible food. Meat was not at all tasty. Ended up going for a £5 kebab after a £300 bill… this place is the biggest joke in London.’

Meanwhile another wrote: ‘Insult to humanity. Worst food, worst service. Paid over £1,800 for three of us. Poor quality, smelly meat, small portions. Rather spend £50 in the local restaurant, it will be better! Never again! Stay away, it’s a death trap!’

In March 2022, a sommelier who was fired from Salt Bae’s restaurant for ‘eating an avocado after 5.30pm’ branded the eatery a ‘toxic working environment’.

Guillermo Perez, 30, from Madrid, compared Nusr-Et to a ‘McDonald’s for rich people’ for charging guests extortionate prices – despite allegedly serving them ‘frozen chips with Heinz ketchup’.

Sommelier of eight years Mr Perez, who has lived in the UK since 2012, claimed the London eatery was ‘immoral’ in a scathing attack, adding that bottles of wine were being marked up by ‘incredible’ amounts.

‘Bottles worth £1,000 would be sold for up to £3,000, for example,’ Mr Perez told MailOnline. ‘Of course you can charge people whatever price you want, but it’s pretty immoral when the quality of the food and service does not match the price.

‘One day I saw a big bag of frozen chips and I thought “really? That’s what we are serving people?” And they had Heinz ketchup and mayonnaise, which you can get from the shop.’

Mr Perez continued: ‘I have worked in Mayfair and other good restaurants, but my experience there was very disappointing. I think people there want to show how much money they have, almost everybody paid in cash.’

Mr Perez said he was dragged into HR on January 20 after he was rated by a chef in the staff canteen – which is shared with a hotel – for eating his own avocado and rice.

Workers from Nusr-Et are not allowed to eat food from the canteen after 5.30pm, Mr Perez said.

‘I arrived with my own food at 5.35pm and took a plate and the chef started shouting at me telling me I can’t eat from the canteen,’ alleged Mr Perez, whose past work experience includes the upmarket Sushisamba.

‘I tried to explain that the avocado was mine and that I was just taking a plate and some cutlery and he accused me of being aggressive and called my general manager.’

Within 30 minutes, Mr Perez said he was told to report to HR, where he was chastised for ‘arguing with the chef’ and told not to return after that day. He said he was told he would not receive his week’s holiday pay or work a notice period.

MailOnline contacted Nusr-Et for comment.

Dad saves £10,000 with extreme cost-cutting tips like reusing LOO ROLL

A thrifty dad has shared some of his extreme cost cutting tips – from reusing toilet paper to dry tea bags on the washing line for a second cuppa.

Al Baker, 48, from Aldershot, was plunged into £300,000 business debt in 2017 and was forced to declare bankruptcy.

Ever since, the dad-of-two has been on a mission to cut costs – notably living on yellow sticker bargain foods to help him save £10,000 over the course of two years.

Now, Al – who shares money saving tips on his blog The Penny Pincher – has revealed some of the other ways which can help save you some cash.

But brace yourself – they’re not for the fainthearted…

Al Baker has been on a mission to save since being forced to declare bankruptcy after his business got into debt in 2017

DITCH THE LOO ROLL – AND USE RE-USABLE RAGS

Although Al doesn’t do this himself, he has shared this trick to help others save cash.

Instead of toilet roll, some thrifty people use pieces of cloth, which are cleaned by storing them in a container of bleach and water and then placed in the washing machine.

Al said, ‘It’s not a million miles away from washing babies’ nappies, but I suspect the contents may be a little worse.’

He said he doesn’t do this trick himself, adding: ‘I get that loo roll is expensive, but I think there are other things I would be happy to lose before losing loo roll.

‘Still thousands of people are now doing this, and if money is tight then fair enough.’

TEA BAGS FOR LIFE

We Brits love a cuppa – so this may be considered a sacrilegious act. But drying out teabags to re-use is a thrifty way to make your daily necessity stretch further.

Al said, ‘This is the most un-British thing you could do, but another tip for frugal people.’

He added, ‘I’ve tried it, and it is kind of OK… obviously, it’s a weaker cup of tea than the first cuppa, but more or less passable.

‘I think it would be better for making iced tea, as you don’t need quite so much flavour, and based on that, again, it’s on the list as an extreme frugal contender.’

FLUSHING TOILET ONLY ONCE A DAY

Another money-saving bathroom exploit is reducing how often you flush your toilet – with Al advising you could cut this to just one flush a day.

He said, ‘If you want to flush as normal, invest in a hippo bag that fills up space in your water cistern, which means your toilet will use less water to fill up the cistern.

‘You could also consider filling up a larger fizzy drink bottle with water and popping that in your cistern, which will do the same job as the hippo bag.’

RE-GROW YOUR VEG

By growing your own fruit and veg from leftovers, you could save yourself quite a few pennies on your food bill – plus it can be fun.

Al said, ‘This is very achievable and is something I already do.

‘For example, take a spring onion, cut off the root, and place it in water or soil, and it will re-grow, which you can then use for food, and re-grow again.’

WATER DOWN YOUR MILK

To save money on milk, Al advises buying a full carton of whole milk and, once half used, filling it back up with water – the idea being you get double the amount of milk for your money.

Al said: ‘The logic is reasonably sound. I did try it, and it isn’t something I would want in my cup of tea, but it works ok when making sauces or puddings.

‘It’s a bit extreme, but if used for the right thing, it’s a yes from me.’

TAKE ADVANTAGE OF FREEBIES

Even people who can afford to go out can still make the most of freebies.

Al said, ‘If you go and stay at a hotel, make sure you nick the complimentary tea and coffee from the room, as well as the guest shampoo and soap.’

Al also recommends tips such as freezing leftovers, canceling subscriptions and avoiding eating out to cut costs.

Ashton recently revealed he nearly died from a rare disorder known as vasculitis, an autoimmune disorder that causes inflammation and narrows blood vessels.

The No Strings Attached star said the disease ‘knocked out my vision, it knocked out my hearing, it knocked out like all my equilibrium.’

‘It took me like a year to build it all back up,’ he said in an upcoming episode of Running Wild with Bear Grylls: The Challenge.

According to Kutcher, his harrowing experience with vasculitis, though scary, gave him a new-found appreciation for his health and his senses, explaining that he hadn’t ever truly realized how essential they were, until he lost them.

‘You don’t really appreciate it, until it’s gone,’ admitted the human rights activist.

‘Until you go, “I don’t know if I’m ever going to be able to see again, I don’t know if I’m ever going to be able to hear again, I don’t know if I’ I’m ever going to be able to walk again.”‘

He added that he is ‘lucky to be alive.’

The actor revealed that it took him a year to build up his strength, prompting Grylls to praise his ‘strength through adversity’.

The father of two said he considers challenges an opportunity for growth.

‘The minute you start seeing your obstacles as things that are made for you, to give you what you need, then life starts to get fun, right? You start surfing on top of your problems instead of living underneath them,’ he said.

On Monday night, he took to Twitter to share his current condition, before noting he’ll be running the 2022 New York City Marathon in November.

‘Before there are a bunch of rumours/ chatter/ whatever out there. Yes, I had a rare vasculitis episode 3yrs ago. (Autoimmune flair up) I had some impairments hear, vision, balance issues right after. I fully recovered. All good. Moving on,’ he wrote.

The episode featuring Ashton will be released Monday night on National Geographic.

What is medium vessel vasculitis?

Vasculitis is the name given to a group of conditions in which blood vessels such as arteries and veins become inflamed, or swollen.

Inflammation is the body’s natural immune response and helps the body fight off infection.

However, in patients with vasculitis healthy blood vessels become swollen, which narrows them and can increase blood pressure or reduce the amount of blood which can be pumped through the vessel.

Medium vessel vasculitis is that which specifically affects medium-sized blood vessels such as arteries and veins which supply the muscles with blood.

Vasculitis can range from a minor problem that just affects small blood vessels in the skin, to a more serious illness that causes problems with organs such as the heart or kidneys.

The cause is often unclear, but may be due to infection or medication.

Symptoms can include skin rashes, tiredness, weakness, fever, abdominal pain, and kidney or nerve problems.

Vasculitis is rare: about 14,000 new cases are diagnosed in the UK each year, and it affects around 97,000 Americans.

Melbourne woman injured after slipping on lettuce at Coles in Wyndham Vale loses appeal

Coles shopper who SUED the supermarket after slipping on a LETTUCE LEAF in the aisles loses court battle despite claiming she ‘suffered a whole person impairment’

  • Coles shopper who slipped on lettuce has lost her legal bid for compensation
  • Kanwaleen Bhelley claims she injured her knee and back in the fall in May 2020
  • Medical panel ruled she didn’t meet threshold required for compensation
  • She lodged an appeal to the court, alleging panel made jurisdictional errors
  • Victoria’s Supreme Court ruled in favor of panel and dismissed appeal

A Melbourne woman who claimed she injured her knee and back after she slipped on a piece of lettuce during a trip to the supermarket has lost her legal bid for compensation.

Kanwaleen Bhelley, 43, claimed she suffered a whole person impairment (WPI) of more than five per cent following the order at a Coles store at Wyndham Vale in May 2020.

Ms Bhelley’s medical reports supporting her claim that her impairment from the fall exceeded five per cent were rejected by the supermarket giant, which referred the case to a medical panel which assessed her in 2021.

The panel found Ms Bhelley suffered age-related degenerative changes to her spine and sacroiliac joints associated with rehabilitation treatment of her right knee.

The panel ruled her condition was stable and that she didn’t meet the WPI threshold required for compensation.

A Melbourne woman who slipped on lettuce at a Coles store at Wyndham Vale had her bid for compensation dismissed

A Melbourne woman who slipped on lettuce at a Coles store at Wyndham Vale had her bid for compensation dismissed

Ms Bhelley lodged an appeal against the decision in the Victorian Supreme Court, alleging the panel made jurisdictional errors.

‘In particular, she alleges that, in finding that her injuries did not satisfy the threshold level, the Panel either did not apply the Guides; mistook or misapplied the provisions of the Guides; or made a finding that was not open to it, or which was unreasonable,’ court documents state.

‘Mrs Bhelley submitted that, absent such error, the panel would have determined that her degree of whole person impairment resulting from her spinal injury was 5%, satisfying the significant injury threshold and in turn entitling her to claim noneconomic loss damages.’

Ms Bhelley claimed her injuries from the supermarket fall in 2020 caused pain, restricted her movement and limited her attendance at concerts and her temple.

Kanwaleen Bhelley claimed she suffered injuries to her back and right knee after slipping on a piece of lettuce at Coles (stock image)

She also alleged she could only drive for about an hour before experiencing lower back pain and did not run in fear of causing pain to her right knee.

‘She can stand for about 10 minutes before she has to stretch her back,’ the panel wrote in their report.

‘She can walk for about 30 minutes, (but) after about 500m she notices mild right knee pain, so stops walking to sit or stand for about 10 minutes.’

‘She can traverse stairs without difficulty, using alternate stair treads for both ascending and descending, with no lower back or right knee issues.’

Judge Andrea Tsalamandris acknowledged Ms Bhelley could still be suffering symptoms or complaints since the fall two years ago.

But she ruled the panel had not erred in their assessment and dismissed Ms Bhelley’s appeal when she handed down her judgment on Friday.

‘It was open to the panel to determine that Ms Bhelley’s complaints and symptoms were most appropriately categorized,’ Judge Tsalamandris wrote.

‘I am not satisfied that there was a jurisdictional error made by the panel, and therefore dismiss this application.’

He previously collaborated with Hemsworth on the 2017 feature Thor: Ragnarok.

Much of the cast was brought together in 2020, and physical production took place the following year.

The performer went on to express that he was fine with starring as Thor if new ideas were brought to the franchise.

‘As long as I keep getting to work with directors like this man, and cast that inspire me and bring something different out in myself and the character, then I’m down for whatever,’ he said.

Hemsworth also remarked that he particularly enjoyed working on the newest Thor feature.

Where is Cindy Jessup, the woman who ‘stole’ Olivia Newton-John’s first husband, now?

She was the young blonde babysitter blamed for the break-up of Olivia Newton-John’s first marriage after striking up a flirtation with the actress’s husband while they raised money together to fight her first cancer battle in 1994 – only to marry him in secret years later .

And today in an exclusive interview, Cindy Jessup tells DailyMail.com how she is mourning the ‘angel’ star following her death at the age of 73.

Jessup was just 23 when she met Olivia and her then-husband Matt Lattanzi.

A beautiful young cyclist from New Zealand, she was invited into the family’s home near Byron Bay, Australia, to look after their seven-year-old daughter Chloe. Two years later, Olivia and Matt split, leaving Olivia – 48 and single – battling breast cancer for the first time. Four years later, Jessup, then 28, married Lattanzi quietly in California.

Now, DailyMail.com can reveal how their marriage broke down years later, and how Jessup moved on to marry a successful California transplant surgeon. The pair have two young children, attend music festivals including Burning Man, and are great lovers of the outdoors.

Today, going by her new married name of Cindy Fisher, the once vilified blonde is now a trainee relationship therapist and masseuse.

Speaking from her$2.7million San Diego home, Jessup paid tribute to Olivia – who ultimately embraced her marriage to Lattanzi despite her personal heartache for the benefit of her daughter.

‘The world has lost a true angel. Olivia cared so deeply about people and the planet. She was such a force for goodness, always helping others,’ Cindy, now in her early 50s, said.

Jessup’s name was thrust back into the spotlight this week after Newton-John’s death.

The pair first crossed paths in the 1990s while Newton-John and Lattanzi were living near Byron Bay.

She had met Matt in 1993 and bonded over their mutual love of cycling, but they were just friends.

The family invited her into their farm to look after their daughter Chloe, then just seven.

A year later, when Olivia was diagnosed with breast cancer for the first time, Cindy offered to cycle from Sydney to Perth to raise money for Breast Cancer Research.

The pair posed proudly together for press photographers.

Joined by Lattanzi in some of the shots, the trio looked playfully at a map for the photographers’ lenses and shared jokes amongst themselves.

In others, she posed with Newton-John’s nephew, Emerson, and with Lattanzi alone. Cindy was just 23 at the time.

The following year, Matt and Olivia parted ways. She was 40, and he was 36.

And four years later, in 1999, Lattanzi married Cindy, by then 28, in a quiet ceremony in Malibu, California.

At the time, the National Enquirer reported that the only people who knew of the nuptials ahead of time were Olivia and her daughter, Chloe.

An unnamed friend of the couple insisted that their friendship only turned romantic after Olivia and Matt’s marriage had ended.

‘It looks bad, because Cindy would often babysit his daughter and she was a friend of his and Olivia’s — but in those days there was no romance.’

Matt, thrilled not only with his new bride but with the fact Olivia had embraced her, said: ‘I am so fortunate. I couldn’t ask for a better outcome.’

Olivia didn’t remarry again until 2008, when she married John Easterling. They remained together until her death.

She had been hesitant to get married the first time.

‘Olivia had delayed marrying until the age of thirty-six because she was desperate to get it right after being scarred since the age of ten by her own parents’ divorce.

‘She married Matt full of hope for a lasting union, but after a golden few years where they seemed to live in a perfect world, their marriage had been buffeted by events and circumstances often beyond their control. Inevitably, they had both changed. At forty-eight, Olivia was alone again.

‘Matt and Cindy eventually set up home together in Malibu so he could continue to be an attentive father to Chloe.

‘In June 1999, Cindy became Matt’s second wife,’ Olivia’s 2011 biography reads.

It’s unclear what ultimately led to the breakdown of Jessup and Lattanzi’s marriage in 2007.

Lattanzi moved on to his third wife, Michelle. The pair live together now in Oregon, where they grow marijuana on a farm.

Michelle paid tribute to Olivia this week on social media, writing: ‘Today we lost one of the world’s greats Olivia Newton-John,’ she posted on behalf of the couple.

‘Matt and I are so overwhelmed with the love and gratitude shared with us by friends, family and a deeply loving community of fans who will all miss Olivia’s presence in this world.

‘I have heard truly lovely stories and memories from people near and far, and honor in each of you where those feelings and memories come from.

‘Nothing will replace the icon we lost, yet her legacy is alive and well in our hearts and memories, as well as her contributions to our global culture, her beloved daughter Chloe Lattanzi, and her cancer research and wellness center in Melbourne.

‘Please honor your sadness, and then celebrate the joy that Olivia’s heart and lifetime achievements endowed in our world. Sending all kinds of love.’

It comes after it was reported that Victoria Beckham will finally be reuniting with the rest of the Spice Girls for a new documentary series centering on the band.

According to The Sun, the series will be made by the team behind The Last Dance, the critically acclaimed hit Netflix series about basketball superstar Michael Jordan.

Speaking about The Last Dance, Mel B opened up about the series in an interview in Australia, saying: ‘The director and the whole concept of how that was shot and filmed is really, really, really good. So we’ll be doing our own version with them.’

The series will reportedly feature behind-the-scenes anecdotes, and document the band’s rise to the top.

Giving a taste of what fans can expect, Mel B revealed: ‘The rap in the Wannabe video, I actually wrote on the toilet while the other girls were doing the vocals.’

She continued: ‘My kids go, ‘Mummy, your music has come full circle’, and I’m thinking, ‘Ooh they’re going to compliment me’. Then I get told, ‘It’s come full circle because now you’re just vintage’. Old but good.’

The iconic 90s girl group, comprising Sporty, Scary, Ginger and Baby reunited for a tour in 2019, without Victoria.

But the five girls are finally set to reunite as Geri turns 50 in September and not only has she invited Emma, Mel B, Mel C, and Victoria to the lavish bash, the quintet are expected to perform together as a five-piece for the first time since the closing ceremony of the London Olympics in 2012.

A source told The Sun newspaper: ‘It’s going to be an amazing night. It’s a seated, black tie do and the theme is Timeless Elegance.

‘Loads of Geri and her husband Christian’s celeb pals will be there and, excitingly, Geri is inviting all the Spice Girls — including Victoria.

‘It’s being held in a Grade II listed manor in Oxfordshire which, conveniently, is just a stone’s throw from David and Victoria’s Cotswolds manor.

‘The girls can’t wait to reunite and the plan is for all five of them to sing Happy Birthday and get up on stage to join Geri for a number — possibly Wannabe.

‘One of the girls turning 50 is a massive deal — they all want to mark the occasion in style, and reuniting after a decade seems the perfect time.’

Mel C previously claimed there have been constant discussions about the Spice Girls getting back together again.

Asked about the possibility of another meeting in December 2021, she said: ‘I really hope so. We’re talking about it. We are talking about it constantly. It was always the plan.

‘We did these amazing stadium shows two years ago. It was the best thing we’ve ever done. The creative was so incredible. We had the best time.’

The Say You’ll Be There singers formed in 1994 and went on to become the best-selling girl group of all time, but Geri suddenly left the band in 1998 and the remaining members went their separate ways in 2000.

All five members gathered for a string of arena shows in 2007 and they got back together again to play at 13 stadiums across the UK in 2019, with the exception of Victoria, who declined to take part in a second reunion.

However, it also hosts a horse race which is restricted to two-year-old Thoroughbreds bought at one of their auctions.

Elsa has often been open about her passion for horses and the equestrian sphere.

In August last year, it was revealed that she and her husband of 11 years, Chris Hemsworth, had submitted plans to build a second ‘Westfield-style’ home near their existing Byron Bay mega-mansion.

The A-list couple also came under fire after building a large stable complex on their existing property, knocking the top off a hill to create an enormous horse ring.

‘Apparently his mates call it ‘El Caballo Blanco’ – named after a large equine Andalusian theme park that operated in western Sydney in the ’70s, ’80s and ’90s,’ a source told Daily Mail Australia that month.

Elsa spoke about her love of horse riding in an interview with Australian Women’s Health in March last year, and said she had kept her sane during lockdown.

‘When we were in lockdown, I could still ride, so it was [all about] my family, my husband and my horses,’ she told the publication.

‘It’s such a passion, kind of like meditation for me. I think it’s important for your mind to have something you enjoy – a hobby that’s just for you and your time.’
