Kylie Minogue’s lack of dialogue in Neighbors finale was ‘due busy schedules’

Kylie Minogue’s lack of dialogue in Neighbors finale was ‘due to her and Jason Donovan’s super busy schedules only aligning for half a day for filming’

Kylie Minogue’s return to Ramsay Street for the last ever episode of Neighbors — sporting a throwback denim boiler suit and retro curls — is one of the great TV moments of the year.

But there has been much speculation on social media as to why she kept so tight-lipped, only uttering: ‘Home sweet home’!

However, I’m told the problem was a lack of time.

A friend said: ‘There was only one half-day where Kylie and Jason’s schedules aligned.

‘They would have loved to film scenes with Guy Pearce, too, but this wasn’t possible.

‘For Kylie and Jason it was less about a storyline — which would have been hard, given the complexities of the final episode — but just to be on the street, and for viewers to see the love still between them.

‘It was very emotional for Kylie to be back on set. She loved being apart of the finale.’

Last week fans expressed disappointment that Kylie and Jason were given such little dialogue.

Neighbors executive producer Jason Herbison told TV Tonight that the pair filmed their special appearance before he had even written the final episode – so what they said had to fit in with the rest of the storyline.

‘Our discussions with Jason and Kylie were always about making a small appearance,’ Herbison told TV Tonight.

‘They didn’t want to overshadow the current cast or make the finale about them. We also filmed their scenes before I’d written the episode, so whatever we filmed had to fit in with that.’

He went on to defend Kylie after she copped backlash on social media, saying: ‘I hate to see Kylie copping any criticism – she was nothing short of amazing on the day.’

Kylie and Jason’s beloved characters Charlene and Scott Robinson made their much-anticipated entrance to the garden party as they pulled up on Ramsay Street in their recognizable green Mini before surprising their pals.

‘Wow wow wow,’ Scott said as they stepped out of the Mini during the finale.

‘This is crazy. We made it huh?’ I have added. Kylie’s character Charlene then said: ‘Home sweet home.’

The couple returned to Erinsborough for the first time since they bid farewell to the suburb and moved to Brisbane after tying the knot in a romantic wedding ceremony more than 30 years ago.

As well as Kylie and Jason making a final appearance on the show, there were also epic returns made by Holly Valance (Flick Scully), Natalie Imbruglia (Beth Brennan), Guy Pearce (Mike Young) and Ian Smith (Harold Bishop) as they reprized their roles on the soap opera.

Smartphone app could alert you to cancer-causing chemicals in meat

A new smartphone app could alert users to cancer-causing chemicals in processed meats like sausages, ham, bacon and salami.

Scientists in Spain have created a system that includes a colour-changing film called ‘POLYSEN’ that consumers can stick onto meat products.

The labels get darker when they detect high levels of nitrite – a meat preservative that can form potentially cancer-causing compounds.

Users can then snap a picture of the film with a smartphone, and a specially-developed app will analyze the color and give a nitrite concentration value.

Cured and processed meats, such as salami and bacon, are often treated with nitrite or nitrate salts to keep them looking and tasting fresh (file photo)

HOW DOES ‘POLYSEN’ WORK?

POLYSEN, or ‘polymeric sensor’, is a film made of four monomers and hydrochloric acid.

Discs punched from the film are placed on meat samples for 15 minutes to allow them to react with nitrite.

The discs are then removed and dipped in a sodium hydroxide solution for one minute to develop the colour.

The higher the nitrite present, the deeper the film’s yellowish hue.

A smartphone app self-calibrates when a chart of reference disks is photographed in the same image.

The system has been created by experts at Universidad de Burgos in Spain and detailed in a new study, published in ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces.

‘There is a need to detect and control different chemical compounds added to processed food, such as processed meat,’ they say.

‘Our method represents a great advance in terms of analysis time, simplicity, and orientation to use by average citizens.’

Cured and processed meats, such as bacon, hot dogs, ham and sausages (including Mortadella, an Italian luncheon meat), are often treated with nitrite or nitrate to keep them looking and tasting fresh.

Nitrites are widely used in processed meats to extend their shelf life, by warding off bacteria that can cause diseases like salmonella, listeriosis, and botulism.

Crucially, they also add an alluringly tangy taste and a pink hue to products like bacon, making them appear more appetizing.

Though nitrate is relatively stable, it can be converted to the more reactive nitrite ion in the body.

When in the acidic environment of the stomach or under the high heat of a frying pan, nitrite can undergo a reaction to form nitrosamines, which have been linked to the development of various cancers.

For this reason, consumers want to limit consumption of these preservatives, but knowing how much is in a food has been difficult to determine.

Nitrites add an alluringly tangy taste and a shopper-seducing fresh-pink hue to products like sausages, ham, bacon and salami (file photo)

So the researchers crated the new POLYSEN film – an abbreviation of ‘polymeric sensor’ – which is made of four monomers and hydrochloric acid.

First, to create a ‘reference chart’, discs punched from the film were placed on five different meat samples for 15 minutes, allowing the monomer units and acid in the film to react with nitrite.

The meat samples all had different nitrite concentrations, so the researchers knew the discs would vary in colour.

The discs were then removed and dipped in a sodium hydroxide solution for one minute to develop the colour.

The higher the nitrite present in the meat, the deeper each film’s yellowish hue became.

To calibrate the system, discs punched from the film were placed on five different meat samples for 15 minutes, allowing the monomer units and acid in the film to react with nitrite

Next, the researchers created the smartphone app that uses colorimetry – which uses light to determine the concentration of particular compounds.

When photographed in the same image as the reference chart, the app can return a nitrite estimate for the sample disc.

The team tested the film on meats they prepared and treated with nitrite, in addition to store-bought meats.

They found the POLYSEN-based method produced results similar to those obtained with a traditional and more complex nitrite detection method.

In addition, POLYSEN complied with a European regulation for migration of substances from the film to the food.

While the team have only demonstrated the system for now, it could provide a user-friendly and inexpensive way for consumers to determine nitrite levels in foods in the future.

‘This study is intended as a proof of concept in which it has been demonstrated that the methodology is practical and works,’ they conclude.

NITRITES AND NITRATES: A FIRST

Nitrite and nitrate are commonly used for curing meat and other perishable produce.

They are also added to meat to keep it red and give flavour.

Nitrate is also found naturally in vegetables, with the highest concentrations occurring in leafy vegetables like spinach and lettuce.

It can also enter the food chain as an environmental contaminant in water, due to its use in intensive farming methods, livestock production and sewage discharge.

Nitrite in food (and nitrate converted to nitrite in the body) may contribute to the formation of a group of compounds known as nitrosamines, some of which are carcinogenic – ie, have the potential to cause cancer.

In 2015 the World Health Organization warned there were significant increases in the risk of bowel cancer from eating processed meats such as bacon that traditionally have nitrites added as they are cured.

The current acceptable daily intake for nitrates, according to the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), is 3.7 milligrams per kilogram of body weight per day.

The EFSA’s acceptable daily intake for nitrites is 0.07mg per kilogram of weight each day.

This did not deter his attack as he produced another boomerang and only grew more enraged.

Seconds later he shattered the wing mirror, ripped the glass out of its mounting and smashed it against the window, shouting ‘you c**ts, you f**king piece of shit’.

With two more punches from his fist and open hand he shattered the window, to the shock of the couple inside, and began his anti-vaccine rant.

Married At First Sight’s Ella Ding is left red-faced after airport security make SHOCK discovery

Married At First Sight’s Ella Ding is left red-faced after airport security rifle through her carry-on luggage and make SHOCK discovery

Married At First Sight’s Ella Ding has had an unpleasant brush with airport security.

The reality star revealed on Wednesday she suffered an embarrassing drama after her luggage set off metal detectors on the way to Los Angeles.

‘When you go through security – and your bag has to get searched – I remembered I had my vibrator in my carry on,’ Ella, 28, wrote, sharing her tale of woe to Instagram.

The brunette bombshell went on to explain she decided to tell security she was carrying a self-care device, prior to them investigating her luggage.

‘Kid you not, I thought it was that, so I said, ”I have my vibes in there sir,”‘ she recalled.

Ella was left red-faced when her luggage was opened and it was revealed her podcasting microphone had set off the detector.

The reality star finished her social media purge by saying she clearly didn’t need to mention her vibrator in the first place.

Ella’s run in comes after she warned women not to get too attached to their sex toys.

She discussed her former ‘obsession’ with her favorite vibrator in the latest episode of her podcast, Sit With Us, alongside fellow MAFS star Domenica Calarco.

‘It was like a secret obsession of mine. I used to get so excited to get into bed and spend time with it,’ she explained.

‘Before I would go on a date I would get off. I became addicted to it, heavily reliant on it. And the settings heavily increased,’ she continued.

‘So you gotta be careful, because I basically made my clit desensitized to anything from a man,’ Ella admitted.

‘It just wasn’t feeling good because I got so used to the pressure and strength from the vibrator. I used it religiously for five years straight, six times a night.

‘I had to put it away. I said to myself, you have to stop using this, because it was making it harder to be with a man with no toy.’

Ella says she then had to train herself to return to old fashioned methods of achieving orgasm.

It comes after the blockbuster reached a new milestone, as it surpassed $600 million at the international box office last month.

The tally brings the sequel to more than $1.2 billion worldwide, solidifying it as Paramount Pictures’ ‘highest grossing film ever globally,’ as reported by Deadline.

The film, which was directed by Joseph Kosinski, is presently at $602.5M from 65 offshore markets.

And in North America it sits at $606 million, for a grand total of $1,208.5 billion globally.

It is only the 12th film to ever cross the $600 million mark at the domestic box office.

Internationally, Top Gun: Maverick holds the number three spot for the production company’s highest titles ever.

Meanwhile, in 28 overseas markets — including France, Australia, and the UK — the flick is the biggest Paramount live action movie ever.

Notably, this is the first film in Tom Cruise’s decades-long career to earn $1 billion.

Also notable is that Maverick outshined Titanic as Paramount’s number one domestic grossing film of all time.

The entertainment publication reported the week’s top offshore markets through Thursday as the UK with $88.8M, Japan with $65.4M, Australia with $55.9M, France $46M and Korea, $41.4M.

The film was originally supposed to be released in June 2020, but Paramount held off on the release until more fans were able to return following the pandemic lockdowns.

His Top Gun franchise took the global film market by storm, both in 1986 and 2022, but it’s not all for the big screen – as Tom has actually been a real life licensed pilot since 1994.

And while the jets were flown by someone else in the original flick, it was the actor in the driving seat for the recent sequel, Top Gun: Maverick.

The cast of the film underwent months of flying training in preparation for the role, as they took to the sky themselves for the scenes.

While Tom wasn’t allowed to fly an actual F-18 jet, he was the pilot of other planes during the film – and even had to figure out his own camera shots while in the plane, with no space for a director inside.
