Nurse lists the five things she will NEVER do now that she has worked in ICU

An Australian nurse has shared the five things she will never do now that she has worked in the ICU.

A young healthcare worker from regional Victoria shared a TikTok video to the Bendigo Health page outlining some of the more heinous accidents she had witnessed people involved in during her time working in a hospital.

She started by announcing she will never ‘chop wood, mow the lawn or use a chainsaw in thongs’ given some of the horror injuries she had seen sustained as a result of this.

A young healthcare worker from regional Victoria shared a TikTok video to the Bendigo Health page outlining some of the more heinous accidents she had witnessed people involved in during her time working in a hospital

‘I’ll never ride a motorbike in only a singlet and footy shorts, go drinking and swimming, use petrol on a fire and put any objects in any orifices that they don’t belong in.’

Her light-hearted reminder to Australians to be safe when they’re engaging in potentially dangerous activities was well received by fans.

‘Don’t move to Cairns… I’ve never seen anyone mow a lawn in anything but bare feet. It horrifies me. Surely a steel capped boot job,’ one woman replied.

‘Me too and I work as a community nurse,’ another woman said.

In a separate video a hotelier described the ten things she would never do in a hotel room, knowing how regularly it is cleaned and what safety practices are followed.

TikTok user Evangeline shared two videos about her experiences working in an American hotel and what to watch out for when you book your next room.

TikTok user Evangeline shared a video about her experiences working in an American hotel and what to watch out for when you book your next room

TikTok user Evangeline shared a video about her experiences working in an American hotel and what to watch out for when you book your next room

Her first piece of advice was to always add every guest in the room to the reservation, so they can always get a key from the front desk, even if the primary booker isn’t with them.

‘If there is more than one person staying in the room I would never not add their name on the reservation,’ she said.

‘If the primary person happens to be gone and the other person gets locked out and they go to the front desk and their name isn’t on the room reservation they won’t be allowed in. They won’t get a key, period.’

Ten things you should NEVER do in a hotel, according to employee

  • Touch or sit on the bedspread sitting on top of the blankets and sheets
  • Use the ice bucket without a liner
  • Leave any guests’ names off the reservation otherwise they can’t get a key to access the room should the primary booker not be there
  • Drink from the glasses without washing them first
  • Use the TV remote without wiping it down
  • Walk around barefoot on carpeted floors
  • Use the shower without flip flops
  • Use a hotel washcloth
  • Say your room number out loud
  • Reject the chance to sign up for the hotel’s points program

Next, Evangeline moved onto hygiene tips, explaining that her in-depth understanding of the in-house cleaning process has prompted her to bring her own supplies with her whenever she stays in a hotel – and to do a quick wipe down of several key places as soon as she walks into a hotel room.

‘I would never use the remote control without wiping it down first with my own Clorox wipe,’ she said.

‘Your cleaning and my cleaning are different cleaning, you feel me?

‘I would never use the glasses in the room, I’m talking about the glasses in the room ready for you to use, I would never use them without washing them first.’

And while some might think that hotel points programs are just a gimmick, Evangeline insists that you should always sign up to accumulate points whenever you stay at a hotel.

‘I would never sign up for the point program, whatever point program that the hotel is offering,’ she said.

‘Back in the day, you used to really have to let some of the points accumulate to actually use them for something good. But these days they actually allow you to use them for other things such as Amazon points.’

When it comes to the bed, Evangeline shared that she would ‘never sit on the bedspread’, explaining that they often don’t get washed.

‘I would never sit on the bedspread,’ she said. ‘A bedspread is not the sheet, it’s not the blanket, it’s on top of that. That thing comes off the first minute I walk into the hotel. Those things are not washed often… those bedspreads get cleaned like maybe once a year so don’t sit on those.’

In a follow-up video, Evangeline shared several other words of warning with her followers, explaining that she never walks around a carpeted hotel or motel room without shoes on: ‘I would always have a pair of flip flops on… I would also not take a shower without wearing them.’

Evangeline said she wouldn’t ever use an ice bucket without putting a liner in first.

‘Some people just use the ice bucket as is without the liner, no don’t do that, put the liner in,’ she said.

'Some people just use the ice bucket as is without the liner, no don't do that, put the liner in,' she said

‘Some people just use the ice bucket as is without the liner, no don’t do that, put the liner in,’ she said

She continued: ‘This is something nobody actually mentions but it’s big for me, I will never use a hotel washcloth on my body or my face.

‘I will use a towel but I will not use a wash cloth. Hundreds, if not, thousands of people have used that on their body and, it’s not that they’re not washed or sterilized, but having that many people coming into close contact with their body parts with a washcloth and then put it on me. .. no, I’m good.’

She added: ‘Just to clarify, when I say I use a towel, I will use the body towel very, very gingerly.’

Evangeline also warned future hotel guests not to say their room number out loud at the front desk for safety reasons.

‘If you notice, the front desk agent will write your room number on a piece of paper, they’ll circle it and direct you to the elevators, they don’t say your room number out loud,’ she said.

‘At least they’re not supposed to, and you shouldn’t either.’

Channel 10’s breakfast show didn’t get a viewer in one major city

More embarrassment for Ten: Channel 10’s beleaguered breakfast show fails to get a SINGLE VIEWER in one major city – after setting a new record for the worst rating program ever

Channel 10’s struggling new breakfast program 10 News First: Breakfast has hit an all-time ratings low.

The 30-minute broadcast, hosted by Lachlan Kennedy and Natasha Exelby, took a huge nosedive last Wednesday when it failed to attract a single viewer in the major city of Perth.

Perth, which has a population of 2.1 million, is one of the five key metro demographics used to measure the popularity of Australian programs.

10 News First: Breakfast has struggled to gain momentum since its launch on June 27, having recently set a new record for the worst rating program in Australian TV history

Despite the crushingly low ratings, Ten has remained optimistic, telling The Australian on Monday: ’10 News First: Breakfast edition is maintaining its audience and increasing engagement as viewers become more familiar with the timeslot.’

An OzTAM spokesperson also told The Australian the disastrous result could be attributed to the use of ‘small underlying viewing samples’.

The struggling program took another dive last Wednesday when it failed to attract a single viewer in the major city of Perth, according to OzTAM figures. (Pictured left: Lachlan Kennedy; right: Natasha Exelby)

It’s the latest in a series of crushing blows for Ten’s new breakfast offering.

During its first five days on air, the 8am broadcast drew an average of 17,000 viewers across the five major cities, but this dropped to just 15,000 a day in week two.

The show managed to deliver the lowest ever ratings in Australian TV history on its second day, after just 44 viewers tuned in from Sydney.

On the same day, the national broadcast attracted just 224 viewers in Perth.

During another day in week two, the program clocked in just 43 viewers in Perth and 557 in Melbourne.

A Channel 10 spokesperson however told The Australian last month the network was happy with the results.

It comes after Channel 10 categorically denied rumors Studio 10 was on the chopping block. (Pictured: hosts Sarah Harris and Tristan MacManus)

The morning show has been struggling in the ratings for years, with The Australian reporting there are now fears within the network it could soon face the axe.

But a 10 spokesperson rubbished the speculation, telling Daily Mail Australia the program remains profitable and isn’t going anywhere.

This isn’t the first time Channel 10 has gone into damage control after a breakfast TV show spectacularly flopped.

The station’s last attempt at a breakfast program, Wake Up, was axed in 2014 after just six months on the air.

The program was launched in November 2013 to compete with Channel Seven’s Sunrise and Channel Nine’s Today show, but it failed miserably.

The Block’s Omar and Oz have a shock win as they take out bathroom week

The Block’s Omar and Oz won main bathroom week during the much-anticipated room reveals on Sunday night’s episode.

The Western Sydney best friends, who admittedly have limited experience in building and design, bowled the judges over.

The pair spent the least amount on their renovation at just $20,749, but took first place on the leaderboard with a total score of 26 out of 30.

‘I can’t believe this is Omar and Oz. Traditional and contemporary,’ said judge Shaynna Blaze, touring the boys’ flawless renovation.

Meanwhile, fellow judge Neale Whitaker said he ‘loved it’, before referring to the tiling and paneling used in the room.

‘What is blowing me away is that these are all elements that shouldn’t work together but they do,’ Neale said.

‘It’s beautiful. It works. It feels contemporary and country,’ I added.

Omar and Oz won the $250,000 upgrade for kitchen week as well as a $10,000 cash prize.

Tom and Sarah-Jane spent $22,700 on their renovation. The couple are proving strong contenders this season and were only beaten by half a point

The boys were clearly thrilled with the win as they jumped up and down in delight.

‘We worked so hard for it,’ Omar said.

The Block: scoreboard for main bathroom reveal

Tom and Sarah-Jane: 25 ½

Rachel and Ryan: 23 ½

Ankur and Sharon: 20 ½

Dylan and Jenny: 25 ½

Omar and Oz: 26

Second place saw a tie with Tom and Sarah-Jane and Dylan and Jenny.

Both teams managed to score 25.5 out of 30.

Tom and Sarah-Jane spent $22,700 on their renovation.

‘This is a pretty stunning welcome to The Block for Tom and Sarah-Jane,’ Neale said of their bathroom.

‘The bold statements and bold colour. I’m excited about it,’ Shaynna added, going on to praise the couple for their mirror choice.

Darren erred on the size of the vanities which he considered ‘too small’ for a bathroom which would be shared by two people.

Meanwhile, Dylan and Jenny got flooded with praise.

The team spent $28,003 on their room renovation.

‘It feels contemporary but respectful of the house,’ Neale said.

Shaynna remarked it was obvious the pair were both carpenters.

‘Their execution level and attention to detail to their trade and their skill is phenomenal,’ Shaynna said.

Newcomers Rachel and Ryan impressed the judges with their bathroom but got criticized about their double showers, normally used in a master en suite.

The couple spent $33,500 on the room and scored 23.5/30.

‘They have six draws and power points, so they have really thought about [the function of the room],’ Shaynna said.

Neale added he couldn’t ‘commend them highly enough’ for their standing start on the show, saying: ‘It feels like an urban bathroom.’

The judges did not hold back on Sharon and Ankur, who scored the lowest of the night

The couple spent $34,000 and scored just 20.5/30.

Shaynna was made furious by their tile choice with her lambasting the couple, saying it ‘wasn’t heritage’ at all.

‘If anything will get me angry. It’s doing this to that beautiful house we walked through,’ Shaynna said.

‘It’s brassy and shiny and something about it isn’t feeling authentic,’ Neale added of the style choices.

The Block continues on Monday at 7.30pm on Channel Nine

'If anyone house will get me angry. It's doing this to that beautiful house we walked through,' Shaynna said. Neale called it 'inauthentic' as well as 'brassy and shiny'

He went on to give listeners an update on Otto and Tegan, as they prepare to leave hospital.

‘We might get released today or tomorrow,’ Kyle revealed.

Why Cheerios are better than coffee for breakfast, new study claims

When it comes to eating healthily, it seems there’s a new piece of advice every week.

Take eggs. Once demonized for being high in cholesterol, they gained hero status when protein-rich diets became the holy grail for weight loss. No wonder we’re so confused.

But a new study could be the definitive guide that we’ve all been looking for.

Researchers from the US have created the Food Compass, which, they say, is the most comprehensive system ever devised to assess the nutrition content of what we eat. The team in Boston spent three years looking at more than 8,000 foods and drinks, from melon to a McDonald’s, and used cutting-edge science to rank them according to 54 different attributes.

They gave each food a score between 1 and 100 — the higher the score, the healthier the food. Foods scoring between 100 and 70 are encouraged, those between 69 and 31 should be eaten only in moderation, while anything under 30 is bad news.

Some of the highest scoring foods will come as little surprise. Legumes, nuts and seeds (average score 78.6), fruits (73.9) and vegetables (69.1) all do well. Savory snacks and desserts (average score 16.4) are on the no-go list.

But there are some surprises. Sweet potato crisps get a score of 69, the same as bulgur wheat, usually considered a healthy grain. The vitamins and minerals in both are comparable. But break it down further, and other factors emerge.

Sweet potatoes have more vitamin A and potassium, and are low in sodium.

Bulgur wheat does have more protein and fiber than sweet potatoes, but it also has more starch (a bad thing) and fewer healthy fats.

And those of you who have ditched cereal in favor of eggs for breakfast might be surprised to find that Cheerios (95) and Shredded Wheat (83) are not only top scorers in the grain category, but score more highly than a boiled egg (51 ).

‘Cereals aren’t inherently bad. In fact, if they have a high whole grain content then they will get a good score for that, and if they don’t have added sugar, they won’t lose any points,’ explains Professor Jeffrey Blumberg, one of the co- authors of the study.

Coffee addict? Curiously, an espresso (55) isn't the best choice, according to the Food Compass

What’s more, although eggs are a great source of protein, they may not contain as many nutrients as, say, a cereal that’s been fortified with vitamins and minerals, hence the lower score.

Fancy super-charging your diet? Here’s what to choose—with their Food Compass ratings in brackets.

FOLLOW THE FOOD COMPASS

Highest scoring foods – 100/100

  • avocado
  • Raw or lightly cooked broccoli
  • celery juice
  • raw salmon
  • Watercress
  • red kidney beans
  • cherries

Lowest scoring foods – 1/100

  • fizzy drinks
  • white pitta bread
  • boiled sweets
  • Frankfurters
  • biscuits
  • fudge
  • instant soups

BREAKFAST

For juice, opt for celery (100), which contains a range of vitamins and minerals including potassium, magnesium and calcium, or tomato (100), which is a great source of the antioxidant lycopene.

Coffee addict? Curiously, an espresso (55) isn’t the best choice. The healthier option is a skimmed milk cappuccino (73), which has some protein and, unlike the full-fat version (58), not too many saturated fats.

As for cereals, Special K might seem a good option, but with a score of 18, it’s on a par with Cornflakes (19) and not much better than Frosties (15).

Eggs alone, boiled or poached, score only 51. But make an omelette and you can push that up or down, depending on what you put in it. A ham and cheese omelette cooked in butter drags the score down to 15, but with an egg-white omelette with vegetables, you’ll hit 59. If toast is your thing, ditch jam on white (1) for reduced-fat peanut butter on whole wheat (63).

LUNCH

Unadulterated sashimi (thinly sliced seafood) is a good choice (100), while a sushi-style California roll (1) has almost no health benefits thanks to its starchy rice, sugary vinegar and processed crab sticks.

White rice noodles (17) might look healthy but they’re almost empty calories. But if you go for wholegrain spaghetti (70) you get a lot more fiber, plus iron and potassium. Add a tomato-based sauce, with seafood and vegetables, and you’ll score 78.

Sandwiches aren’t a great choice, regardless of filling. Even a vegetable submarine sandwich with fat-free spread only gets 14, while roast beef gets 11. If you must grab a sarnie, go for grilled chicken on a wholewheat roll with lettuce and tomato (68). Sadly, but predictably, cakes (1) and cookies (4) aren’t advised.

dinner

You won’t be surprised to learn that a McDonald’s cheeseburger (8) isn’t massively nutritious. Ditch the meat and starchy carbs in favor of seafood — it’s high in protein, low in saturated fats, and packed with vitamins and minerals.

Try mussels in a tomato-based sauce (95), or a tuna salad made with light mayo (73). For top marks, go for a seafood salad with lettuce, tomato, carrots and other vegetables. The bad news is you need to hold the dressing to get a perfect 100.

If you can forgo meat, a curry isn’t a bad option. Vegetable curry scores 90, beef curry just 51.

Finally, while an ice cream sundae, with chocolate sauce and whipped cream, scores 10, you can still get a chocolatey fix — chocolate frozen yogurt made with skimmed milk scores a pretty impressive 81.

Comedian Blake Pavey pokes fun at his terminal illness during his stand-up comedy shows

A young Australian stand-up comedian has shared a series of videos online poking fun at his terminal respiratory illness while performing in front of live audiences.

Blake Pavey, who has more than 870,000 followers on TikTok, was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis (CF) when he was just six weeks old.

The 20-year-old, from Melbourne, needs to self-manage himself by taking between 30 to 50 tablets a day, often feels out of breath after exercising and is unable to have children.

Cystic fibrosis is a terminal condition that causes severe damage to the respiratory and digestive system, resulting in thick mucus sticking to the lungs – and patients typically live into their 30s or mid-40s.

Blake told FEMAIL he copes with his condition through humor during his live shows while also raising awareness.

In one video shared on Instagram, Blake asks the audience: ‘Are there any other dying people in the room?’ and woman puts her hand up explaining how she has a ‘hereditary family disease’.

The pair banter back and forth before Blake jokingly calls the woman a ‘loser’ because she didn’t receive a ‘Make A Wish’ despite having a terminal disease.

In another clip at a separate show, Blake explains what CF is and the life expectancy is – but then someone can be heard cheering.

Blake laughs and seems shocked, then makes fun of the woman.

‘He’s going to die, let’s go! That was the most positive way to tell me to kill myself,’ he joked.

This build-up increases the risk of bacteria and infection in the body, which requires close maintenance and medication.

Blake doesn’t recall the first time he was told he had CF but remembers the ‘toughest moment’ when his parents had to discuss the life expectancy with him.

‘It’s always been something I’ve just had to deal with throughout my life,’ he said.

‘The life expectancy is always in the back of my mind but I try not to focus on it too much. I don’t want to let it control me.’

'My mum and dad weren't aware they both had the CF gene which was passed on to me. It would've been pretty scary for them because they weren't sure what was wrong with me at first,' he said

But he doesn't let the condition stop him from enjoying life

‘The first six or seven weeks when I was struggling to get to sleep and was in a lot of pain would’ve been the toughest.’

Not only has Blake been hit with the reality that he will likely die young, he may also require a lung transplant in the future to survive.

‘A lot of people with CF tend to need a lung transplant at some point depending on how severe it gets, which is something that is always on the cards,’ he said.

What is cystic fibrosis (CF)?

Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a serious genetic condition that causes severe damage to the respiratory and digestive systems

This damage often results from a buildup of thick, sticky mucus in the organs

The most commonly affected organs include the lungs pancreas liver intestines

If you have CF, a genetic mutation increases the thickness of mucus and other body fluids.

When this happens, the thicker fluids can interrupt the function of organs – like the movement of air through your lungs. This can trap bacteria and lead to infections

Source: Healthline

Blake has been able to self-manage the degenerate condition and says it can worsen over time.

He is diligent with health checks and usually visits the doctor every three months.

Blake moved to Melbourne last year to pursue comedy and is now planning a national tour.

On TikTok he’s known for sharing comedic skits and relatable videos – including mimicking what ‘every’ host on different radio stations sounds like and hilarious takes on real-life events.

PLATELL’S PEOPLE: Jerry Hall should never have taken a penny of Rupert Murdoch’s £15 billion

Back in June, on learning Jerry Hall’s magical marriage to Rupert Murdoch was ending after just six years, I wrote that the last thing we fans wanted to learn of our golden girl was that, in the end, she took the money.

I dared to hope that this fiercely independent, talented woman would set a standard. Wealthy already, she would not take a penny of Rupert’s £15 billion fortune.

How wrong I was. As details gradually emerge of the couple’s oh-so-speedy divorce settlement, it appears Jerry will instead enjoy a payday of somewhere between £50 million and £250 million, depending on who you believe, from her nonagenarian ex, including their £11 million Henley mansion and a St Tropez pad.

Not bad for six years of marriage! Yet that huge settlement stands as an insult to any woman Jerry’s age — at 66, she’s two years older than me — who ella dearly hopes to marry again.

The figures in her case may be eye-watering, but the principles are the same. Middle-aged men and women even of modest means think long and hard about marrying. If it fails, they fear they’ll get fleeced.

Back in June, on learning Jerry Hall’s magical marriage to Rupert Murdoch was ending after just six years, I wrote that the last thing we fans wanted to learn of our golden girl was that, in the end, she took the money

I speak from experience. During my last — sadly failed — engagement, I made it clear to my fiancé from him I’d never seek a penny of his money from him.

I wanted a ‘pre-nup’ establishing that if we split, I would get nothing: just keep the happy memories. His children from him would receive their full entitlement: his pension, his home and whatever savings were left after the taxman had taken his greedy share from him.

In turn, of course, he’d have no claim on my finances: I’ve worked hard all my life and it’s up to me what I do with my modest wealth.

When Jerry split with Mick Jagger in 1999, she received around £30 million, including a vast family home. Her children of her are grown-up: she has enough money to last several lifetimes.

Yet it seems she even wanted to be given Rupert’s £164 million Montana ranch and has now been ‘displaced’ from his vineyard in California. How many houses does a girl need?

Inevitably, Jerry has suggested it’s all the stepchildren’s fault. It is claimed they never trusted her, suspecting she was her after their dad’s money. Maybe they were right.

Yes, Rupert has kept most of his billions, but surely she is letting down lovelorn women everywhere.

Call me old-fashioned, but marriage should be about love, not money.

Latest on the wokies’ list of banned books is Anna Sewell’s beloved Black Beauty — for its ‘racist’ title and its scenes of animal cruelty. Crikey, let’s hope they never find out about The Very Hungry Caterpillar, which callously fat-shames larvae.

Olivia got it so right

In her autobiography Don’t Stop Believin’, Olivia Newton-John revealed the skintight black trousers she wore in Grease were not really leather, but a pair of 1950s sharkskin pants.

And when accused of sending a terrible message to girls that you had to be sexy to get your man, she calmly replied: ‘It was about choice. Empowerment comes from calling your own shots and being who you want to be.’

Amen to that, and farewell to the divine Olivia.

Increasingly apoplectic ‘money-saving expert’ Martin Lewis screeches on the BBC about the ‘cataclysm’ of rising energy prices.

Given that Martin sold his website to MoneySuper-Market for £87 million back in 2012, the only ‘inflation’ he has to worry about is his ego ballooning to ever more massive proportions.

Cruise a callous boy, Lewis?

Aging boy-racer Lewis Hamilton says the hardest conversation he’s ever had was turning down Tom Cruise’s offer of a role in his Top Gun: Maverick blockbuster. How revealing of this self-obsessed petrolhead: most of us would find it more awkward to sack our own dad as manager after he’d worked four jobs to support our dreams of becoming a Formula 1 star.

Netting Serena Williams for the cover of Vogue, the magazine’s frosty editor Anna Wintour declares the tennis star is ‘a figure so much larger than the game’. Well said, Anna! So why did our hefty heroine Serena, draped in billowing Balenciaga, appear so Photoshopped to slimness she was almost unrecognizable?

Pouring my favorite tipple, vodka, I noticed the bottle had a rainbow glow. No, I hadn’t had too many: it turns out that Absolute ‘proudly supported the LBGTQ+ community’. Strewth, I wanted a drink not a diversity lecture. Time to switch to gin — but should I call it Mumbai Sapphire?

Brave Anneka Rice confesses that when her Alzheimer’s-stricken father was admitted to hospital with a broken hip, she was tempted to end his life out of ‘deep love’ — after he’d told her not to let him ‘linger in pain’. Weeks before my own dad died, he became bedridden when he fell and broke his hip. I’m just glad all he asked me to do was to cut and file his fingernails from him, the saddest yet most tender thing I ever did for him.

Sean Bean is in hot water for saying intimacy coordinators — on film sets thanks to #MeToo — take the spontaneity out of sex scenes: ‘The natural way lovers behave would be ruined by someone bringing it down to a technical exercise.’ I agree, sex in movies now is just so sexless.

Having met Mr Bean several times in our local pub, I can tell you that no red-blooded woman would ever need help in getting intimate with him.
