Blind Date: EA Emily and teacher Luke bond over their cultural backgrounds and being the middle child

Emily, 27, says:

I met Luke on a Friday night at Cecchi’s in Inglewood. My first impression was that he’s a really good looking guy with a massive smile. The man bun got me — in a good way! I’d describe him as friendly, confident and someone I felt comfortable around instantly.

I was nervous because I just didn’t know what to expect or what my date was going to be like but I tried to go in with an open mind. I was a little worried I would feel uncomfortable on this date, but thankfully it wasn’t like that at all.

We sat down and started chatting. Luke was really easy to talk to. We spoke about general interests and he mentioned he played soccer and does crossfit and that the people at his gym were like a second family. He is super close with his parents and is family oriented. I am as well so that was nice.

The server sold me on an appetizer that ended up being amazing. The food overall was incredible, I wouldn’t mind going back and trying more from the menu. We had one drink each as we both drove. Luke mentioned he wasn’t a big drinker, which I actually quite liked. I recently went on a date and the guy ordered a shot with dinner.

Luke ticked a lot of boxes for me. He is the age I am looking for, he seems like he’s got his life from him together but I just felt like the spark was missing. I’m not sure if it was because usually you know who you’re meeting on a date and can build up a bit of excitement beforehand? It is hard to say.

I’m not currently using any dating apps, although my friends tell me I should. Right now, I’m just trying to meet people organically through friends/out etc.

We ended the date at the restaurant and added each other on socials. I don’t see there being a second date. Interestingly, when I looked at his social media from him, it was full of him playing guitar and singing — something he did n’t even mention. I was like, “wow, OK, this guy can sing!” All in all, Luke is a total catch but I think he felt the lack of spark as well.

Rating 8/10

Luke, 29, says:

I’m trying to say “yes” to more experiences and I went into this with a “why not” attitude.

My first impression of Emily was really good. I was sort of surprised because I considered myself a bit fussy, but this was a good choice. When we arrived it was a little awkward, just because it was the first time either of us had done anything like this before and you never really know what to expect. But I think we both recognized we were in the same boat and once we started talking, we both relaxed and it was comfortable.

Emily and I started chatting about food. She had already scoped out the menu and knew exactly what she wanted so that was cool. We spoke about our families, she she’s Macedonian so we bonded over all the similarities between Macedonians and Italians. We are also both one of three children and we are both in the middle. Our discussions mainly revolved around food, culture and family.

I found out there was a spy at the restaurant. One of my sister’s friends of her happened to be there and then was messaging her saying I was there on a date and asking if she knew.

Emily strikes me as someone who is content within herself. She is a really positive person who had nothing negative to say about anyone or any experiences.

I didn’t feel a spark between us. We could have talked for another three hours, the conversation was great but it was just missing that spark.

We ended up staying and chatting for a few hours then as we finished, we added each other on Instagram. I think we were both happy to be doing our own thing and comfortable being by ourselves. We both said yes to this opportunity, had a good time and left it at that. The date overall was great—I think we both had a good time.

Melbourne TikToker reveals her dad set her up with boyfriend

A television publicist who swore off dating apps has revealed the unusual way she met her current boyfriend.

Alice James took to TikTok in June while she was getting ready for a blind date when she revealed her father had set her up.

“Three weeks ago I made the decision to get off all the dating apps – I just wasn’t having fun, I was feeling like crap and it was taking it’s toll,” she said.

“Fast forward, last week I was with my dad at the local pub, having a drink and talking sh*t and Dad was like ‘I don’t know if you notice but there is a real hottie sitting at the bar,’” she said.

Ms James, from Melbourne, revealed she had noticed the man as soon as she and her dad had walked into the pub.

“Dad said, ‘Leave it with me’ and he just started chatting about footy with the guy,” she said.

“Then Dad asked, ‘Are you was single’, and the dude was like yeah I am, and Dad was like “My daughter is single, she’s right over there.’”

She said the trio began to chat but when the man went to leave, Ms James’ father insisted the younger duo swap numbers.

She said following exchanging numbers the duo continued to speak and set a plan to meet.

A month later, Ms James broke the news to her dad the pair were officially a couple, calling the man she met at the pub her “boyfriend”.

Followers of Ms James’ account were over the moon, congratulating her on the status of her relationship.

“So good! I bet your dad will love to brag about this,” one person commented.

Another said: “I need your dad as my wingman!”

One person said their own father needed to step up his game and help her out.

Blind Date: Marketing executive Connor III wooed administrator Lily with his wit and charisma

LILY, 32, SAYS:

I arrived first, my date was running a couple of minutes late so as I was chatting to the staff and being walked to our table, I noticed a dude with a backpack sitting in the corner and thought, oh god, please not him. Thankfully it wasn’t and my date arrived soon after.

Lily's verdict: 9.5/10

My first impressions of Connor III were that you picked a good one. He was tall and very easy to talk to. It didn’t feel forced at all.

We started off with some stock standard questions about work, how many siblings do you have etc., then once we both had a drink and relaxed a little, conversation just flowed. There were no awkward silences or any awkward moments actually. You can tell talking to people comes very easily to him. I mentioned he had recently been to a really crazy wedding. He told loads of good stories and made me laugh a lot.

I’d describe Connor III as funny, charismatic and likeable.

For dinner, we shared some plates. I’ve been to Lotus before so I knew even if my date wasn’t great, the food/cocktails would be. To be honest, I had set my expectations low for this date but funnily enough, we ended up staying until about 10pm. We shared a bottle of red and just took our time. I didn’t feel rushed or anything like that – it was just easy conversation. It was really bad weather, so we just decided to stay put instead of checking anywhere else out.

Blind Date: HR adviser Kate and rent service officer Ethan parted until the early hours of the morning

Kate and Ethan are going to Blind Date’s longest date, clocking in at 10 hours.

Ethan, 27, says:

I got there first but I only beat her by about a minute. She was right behind me. We started off at a table and it was really close to the band, so couldn’t really hear each other and then one of the staff brought us around the corner and that was way better. We started off with, “What do you do for work? How do you like it? Is there any foods you don’t like, and foods you do like?

It was nerve-racking at the start. It was the unknown that was the scariest part about it.

But a few minutes into the date, it was fine. She made me feel super comfortable, just with her smile from her, and she would speak and then the conversation would just continue.

She’s just so easy to get along with. Ella’s personality is very bubbly and she’s a very funny girl.

She works in HR. I think she’s studying to get a promotion or something within that field. She does not like seafood, which is the same as me.

We ordered a lot of food. But we were talking so much, so we didn’t eat it all.

We exchanged Instagrams. And then we exchanged numbers as well. We’re actually still messaging now. I hope we go out again.

We actually stayed out until four o’clock in the morning. We met up with some of her friends of her after The Globe closed.

We went to a couple of bars and it got to about four o’clock and I was, like, ready to die because I went to work at four o’clock that morning as well, so I’d been up for 24 hours straight .

She was like, “Are you OK if we go home now?”. And I was like, “I’m so ready for that”. I’m glad neither of us had worked the next day because I felt rotten.

I got a bit nervous about meeting her friends but she introduced me to all of them. And then she made sure I was very comfortable and she was always involving me in the conversation rather than leaving me alone.

The whole thing was good. No awkward silences. Nothing but laughter. And just good conversation all around.

Verdict: 8.5/10

Kate, 24, says:

We had a lot of fun. It was a really good time.

Straight away, we both kind of bonded over how nervous we were at the start. And then we were just chatting about our interests, our work.

We had some common interests in terms of where we want to travel. We both are keen to go to Japan. I really want to go skiing there one day.

We were sitting at a high table to begin with. It was a little bit noisy. So then the staff asked us if we wanted to move to a different spot.

He was so friendly. He was just really easy to get along with and I felt pretty comfortable with him. The conversation flowed really well and was super easy. And I felt like neither of us was sitting there waiting for the other person to say something.

We always had something to talk about. Not that I really struggle with that, personally.

I can’t remember what it was. But there was one thing that we were laughing about and the banter was going back and forth. And I was almost in tears laughing; it was so funny but I actually can’t remember what it was.

After we left The Globe, we ended up meeting my housemate. She was already out in the city. I was messaging her beforehand and I was like, “So if this is shocking, I’m going to message you. And I’m going to come meet you out”.

And then she’s like, “If it’s really good and you like him and he gets on with you, invite him out afterwards”. So I did.

I didn’t know the other people, so it was kind of an extension of date. So I was chatting to Ethan and most of the night anyway. My housemate thought he was lovely. She thought he was really friendly and everything and she was like, “It seemed like you can just have an easy conversation with him.”

Ethan and I have been messaging since the date. Probably we’ll catch up again. Whether it’s more of a friendship, I’m not 100 per cent sure. But we’ll see what happens.

Verdict: 7.5/10
