Qantas passengers were left waiting on tarmacs after a nationwide computer glitch caused lengthy delays on Sunday afternoon.
The technical issue grounded plans for about 90 minutes from 2.30pm WA time while the airline frantically worked to fix the problem.
At least three flights at Perth Airport were delayed for more than one hour however Qantas assured the problem was minor and had since been resolved.
According to Qantas, cabin crews told waiting passengers, plans couldn’t take off until the computers were once again up and running.
Many furious travelers took to social media to voice their frustrations as the glitch also affected flights trying to take off from New Zealand.
“Still waiting at 7pm to leave on my Qantas plane from Auckland that was meant to leave at 5.40pm! Paperwork needs to be signed off still,” one traveler posted to Twitter.
Another passenger said: “Any update on your international computer outage impacting every single flight from departing? Sitting on fully packed plane on tarmac for 90mins for 2hr is pretty ridiculous.”
This latest debacle comes after news emerged that Qantas canceled one in 12 flights in Australia last month, increasing the pressure on chief executive Alan Joyce as the airline continues to struggle.
Qantas scrapped 8.1 per cent of scheduled domestic services in June, making it the country’s least reliable carrier, according to a government report released on July 21.
