Pegging explained: What is the sex trend that men won’t admit they love

It’s arguable no sex trend has received more airtime in recent years than pegging.

Truly, you can’t read a blog or scroll through social media without hearing about it right now. Even the highly censored TikTok is awash with video memes about it.

But the trendy sex act is by no means new, or – frankly, if you ask this seasoned sex columnist – particularly cutting-edge.

So why is everyone on the internet suddenly obsessed with it?

My guess is – easier, more discreet access to sex toys and the shifting cultural dialogue around gender and sexuality, along with mainstream representation of the practice (who can forget the iconic episode of Broad City where Abbi’s new beau enthusiastically asks her to peg him?) have all played a role.

But of course, if you’ve never heard of pegging, this likely isn’t making a lot of sense to you.

So, let me fill you in, in the best way I can, because while it might not be revolutionary, it’s no G-rated sport, either.

In short, pegging – sometimes referred to as “reverse anal sex” – is a kind of heteronormative sexual role reversal.

Coined by American sex columnist Dan Savage in the early 2000s, it’s a term used to describe a practice among opposite-sex couples that essentially places the man in a receiver role and puts the woman in control through the aid of a wearable attachment, strapped onto her pelvis.

If you don’t catch my drift, google at your own peril. (Probably best not to do it at work.)

And it makes perfect sense why so many men enjoy it, given the powerfully orgasmic potential of the prostate.

Trawl any Reddit forum on prostate orgasms, and you’ll find guys raving about the transformative experience, which is said to be so earth-shattering, it’s even been referred to as a “Super Orgasm”.

In one particular thread, a male Redditor describes it as, “[Like] wave after wave smashing over my body. My skin felt super receptive. I felt every hair follicle on my scalp … When I stood up, I couldn’t walk. My knees were quivering… It was intense beyond intense.”

However, despite the profound pleasure the prostate can bring about, there are still men who won’t go near it due to an archaic idea of heterosexuality rooted in homophobia.

The bizarre belief that men who enjoy penetration or anal play are gay is, of course, entirely illogical, given there is no relationship between the mechanics of orgasm and our attraction to particular genders.

This ideology speaks to an intensely fragile construct of masculinity hinged upon a fear of vulnerability and femininity.

Queer men – particularly those who flout gender norms by embracing femininity, which patriarchal culture conditions us to view as weak and languid – represent a threat to traditional ideas of manhood. And so, in this toxic definition of masculinity, anything that might align with queerness or femininity must be shunned.

However, our evolving cultural dialogue around sexuality and pleasure is prompting more men to break away from this rigid paradigm and embrace less heteronormative approaches to sex.

And two years of lockdowns might have had at least a little something to do with this shift, given the pandemic gave us all time to sexually self-reflect and sparked sky-high sales among adult retailers – most of whom noted marked increases in purchases of less traditional products, like strap-on harnesses and prostate massagers.

“The deciding point for me was when I realized how much I enjoyed the prostate and anal stimulation I was getting from my prostate toy… It occurred to me that if I enjoy this, I might enjoy being penetrated… and even more so with a woman strapping it on,” an anonymous male explained on Reddit.

Indeed, while anal products may have once been difficult to come by and were originally considered a niche category reserved for gay men, the market has experienced record growth in recent years, indicating a move toward mainstream use which retailers say has been largely driven by straight men.

My prediction is we won’t see the demand for pegging-related products and education slow down any time soon. As increasing numbers of men discover the joy of receiving, so too, we can expect the definition of masculinity and the oppressive restraints it’s historically placed on men, to continue to loosen and expand.

And as far as I’m concerned, this can only be a good thing. So, peg away, guys.

NFL 2022: Jalen Hurts hit out of bounds, video, Jordan Mailata, Eagles vs Jets, video, scores, news

Hulking Aussie Jordan Mailata had murderous intentions on Saturday after New York Jets linebacker Quincy Williams delivered a boneheaded moment.

Williams hit Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts out of bounds on a third-down play in the first quarter that drew a penalty flag and the ire of Eagles coach Nick Sirianni.

On third-and-5 at the Jets’ 35-yard-line, Hurts scrambled toward the Jets’ sideline. He clearly was out of bounds when Williams drilled him. Sirianni was incensed and walked onto the field, screaming in the direction of the Jets sideline and head coach Robert Saleh. Hurts was not injured and continued the drive, which ended with him throwing a 22-yard touchdown to Dallas Goedert.

Saleh was not happy with Williams and said he spoke to Sirianni after the game, a 24-21 Jets win, about the play.

“Egregiously awful by Quincy,” Saleh said. “He knows that. He knows better. Those are the plays Quincy has to get out of his game if he wants to become the linebacker that we all think he can be.”

Mailata, the Eagles left tackle, was quick to remonstrate with Williams as the monster came storming in and let him know about it.

NBCS Philadelphia journalist Dave Zangaro wrote: “Jordan Mailata said he was “seeing red” when Jalen Hurts took that shot on the sideline. He wouldn’t repeat what he said at the moment.”

The hit left fans watching on incensed as the angry reactions flooded in towards Williams and his horror shot.

The Jets will be sweating on the outcome of their own quarterback after Zach Wilson went down on the second drive of the game.

Wilson scrambled and went down with no contact, leaving many to fear he had torn his ACL which would end his season before it even officially begins.

“I’m always concerned until you get the final evaluation,” Saleh said. “We’ve walked off the field with very positive thoughts and it’s been opposite. We’ve walked off the field with bad initial readings and it’s been the opposite. I’m just going to let it play out and we’ll see.”

Izaac Thompson went almost five years without playing a game of footy. Now he’s scoring for South Sydney

Izaac Thompson was at home over the summer with his feet up, not thinking about footy at all.

Why would he be? He hadn’t played a game since 2017, when he was running around for the Dragons NSW Cup team. He hadn’t laced on a boot in anger since, not a single game. He did not really miss it either, he was too busy living his life.

That’s when he got the call that changed everything, from close friend and former Dragons teammate Hame Sele. It started a journey that has led Thompson to making his belated NRL debut and scoring tries in back-to-back weeks for the high-flying Rabbitohs.

“He called me and asked how I was going. I was fat as, I lied to all of them, I said I’d been training but I wasn’t doing anything,” Thompson said.

“But as soon as I got the call I put my head down and tried to work.

“I wasn’t playing anything. Nothing at all. The last time I played was 2017. The game’s a bit faster now, but the work I’ve put in is what’s got me here and now I’m reaping the rewards.”

Rabbitohs coach Jason Demetriou and his assistant Ben Hornby had coached Thompson as a junior at the Dragons and brought him in for pre-season.

From there, Thompson has gone from strength to strength. He scored 20 tries in 16 games for South Sydney’s NSW Cup side before getting the call for his first-grade debut with last week’s win over the Warriors.

Thompson dotted down on debut, crossed again in Friday night’s big win over Parramatta and generally looked like he’d been on the cusp of first grade for some time.

loading

Given most mature-age rookies spend years slogging it out in reserve grade before they earn a shot at the big time, Thompson’s return from his sabbatical is one of the most extraordinary rises of any NRL debutant in recent times.

“I just needed time off. I just had my little one and some stuff happened, I just needed to get away from the game. Footy is a busy sport and you’re away from your family a lot,” Thompson said.

“I got to spend four years with my daughter, so it was good for me.

“I was pretty happy, I didn’t really want to come back to be honest. But my daughter, I wanted to do it for her, I was trying to make ends meet and I’m just lucky I’m good at football .

“I was doing heaps of different jobs, anything I could, and then JD [Rabbitohs coach Jason Demetriou] and Ben Hornby saved me. They gave me the lifeline and I grabbed it with both hands.”

Thompson had a lifetime to prepare for his first NRL game compared to just six days for his second, but he might be waiting a week or two for his third.

With a state election looming, a crisis has left Victoria’s opposition with no choice but to regroup

Just months out of a state election, Victoria’s alternative government has been thrown into disarray by a leaked email, a “disastrous” interview and a slow-moving fallout.

Details of a proposed arrangement between a wealthy Liberal Party donor and the Opposition Leader’s chief of staff came to light at the beginning of last week.

Matthew Guy fronted the media within hours and announced his chief of staff had resigned, and seemed determined to put the issue to bed.

However, in the days since, the series of events stemming from that initial revelation have only gathered momentum.

A Liberal MP, who did not want to be named, recently told the ABC that Mr Guy’s position as leader was precarious and another scandal would be fatal, but said that, in the absence of an alternative, he may hang on until the election.

At the start of May, when Mr Guy pledged extra funding for Victoria’s watchdogs, the Independent Broad-based Anti-corruption Commission (IBAC) and the Victorian Ombudsman, he said his party was “focused on rebuilding our system of integrity and honesty in government “.

The government’s integrity came under fire last month, with the release of the results of an IBAC investigation detailing “extensive misconduct” by Labor MPs, as well as an ombudsman’s report rehashing the “red shirts” scandal.

The Opposition Leader has been eager to turn voters’ minds to integrity and trust in government, but struggled to formulate a response as his own office was subject to scrutiny.

So, how did the opposition get to this point just over three months out from a state election?

The proposed arrangement

On August 2The Age published revelations about Mr Guy’s chief of staff, Mitch Catlin, approaching billionaire party donor Jonathan Munz for payments totaling more than $100,000 to his private marketing business, Catchy Media.

Mr Catlin said no contract was signed, and Mr Guy fronted the media and asserted more than once that the arrangement, brought to light by a leaked email, had only ever been a proposal.

“We’re acting on a perception — this wasn’t even put in place,” he said.

That day, the Andrews government announced it would refer the matter to the state’s integrity agencies, IBAC and the ombudsman, Victoria Police, the Australian Federal Police and the Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC).

It also published a list of 14 questions directed at Mr Guy about Mr Catlin’s proposed arrangement.

The interview

Almost a week after the initial reports, Mr Guy appointed his childhood friend, Nick McGowan, as his new chief of staff on August 8.

Mr McGowan has also been preselected as a Liberal candidate for an upper house seat in the Eastern Metropolitan Region, but Mr Guy stated his new chief of staff wouldn’t be campaigning for the seat during working hours.

The Opposition Leader and Mr McGowan have a close personal and professional relationship, with Mr McGowan best man at Mr Guy’s wedding, and his chief of staff while he was planning minister in the Baillieu-Napthine government.

Mr McGowan will also be forced to take leave by November 10 when the VEC deadline for candidate nominations closes, meaning Mr Guy will also need to find a replacement for his top aid for the final two weeks before the election.

The appointment caused some frustration inside the party, with one Liberal MP, who did not want to be named, labeling the move a “shocker” and “a job for a mate”.

They said it sent a “poor message” to the party’s other candidates that they did not need to bother campaigning until they lodged their nomination.

On that same day, Mr Guy was criticized for his performance during a 12-minute radio interview on 3AW where he repeatedly refused to answer questions about when he first found out that Mr Catlin had approached Mr Munz about the proposed arrangement.

Rather than starting a fresh week on the front foot, Monday’s events put Mr Guy right back to square one, and the interview drew harsh responses from listeners.

One man who identified himself as a “rusted-on Liberal voter” said Mr Guy had “lost the election” by being evasive.

Another caller described the interview as “disastrous.”

Referee Ben Cummins says he felt ‘ashamed’, ‘worthless’ after 2019 grand final blunder

Veteran NRL referee Ben Cummins has opened up on his controversial ‘Six Again’ call that flipped the 2019 grand finale, saying he felt “ashamed and worthless” in the days that followed.

Cummins’ call is widely considered to have flipped the match, which the Sydney Roosters wound up winning 14-8 against the Canberra Raiders.

The incident occurred in the 71st minute when a Raiders’ fifth tackle kick was contested in the air 10m from their try line and bounced backwards off Canberra’s kick chaser into skipper Josh Hodgson’s path.

Cummins, believing the ball had come off Roosters fullback James Tedesco, initially called ‘Six Again’ before changing his call seconds later on the advise of assistant referee Gerard Sutton and the touch judge.

However, Wighton did see the changed call and assumed his side had a whole new set to work with before being required to hand over the ball.

Raiders players were left incensed at the call, and their feelings were made worse just minutes later when the Roosters scored through Tedesco off the ensuing set, in what turned out to be the match-winning play.

Cummins, who has refereed in over 400 matches, said the enormity of the situation hit him once he left the pitch after the final whistle.

“I walked into the tunnel and the cameras were all on me and I was thinking, ‘This is not normal. This is big’,” he said. “I think my heart sunk.”

The controversial 6 again call

“I got into the changerooms and Graham Annesley and ‘Jacko’ (Glenn Jackson from NRL media) were there and they basically said, ‘This is going to be the back page’.”

Cummins revealed that his teenage daughters were targeted by abusive fans in the wake of the incident, admitting he endured some dark days in the aftermath.

“When you sign up to referee at the top level, you know that it comes with fans who are passionate, and people can say things about your performance,” he explained.

“But when it brings in your family and your home, it’s sort of to a different level. I found that really hard.

“I can’t say it was easy for them. My son was copping a lot of abuse at school and my daughters (were) online – because they are on social media. That was really tough.

“I basically locked myself in my house for a week.

“It was pretty dark times. I didn’t want to talk to anyone about it. I had some thoughts about what I wanted to do with my life and they were pretty negative.

“You feel ashamed and worthless, embarrassed. I wasn’t sleeping. I just wanted everything to go away.”

John Barilaro inquiry canceled due to mental health reasons

John Barilaro’s second day of evidence to a parliamentary inquiry examining his appointment as US trade commissioner has been canceled after the former NSW deputy premier said he would be unable to attend due to mental health reasons.

The committee conducting the ongoing probe into his recruitment for the New York role received notice on Friday morning that Barilaro would not appear on Friday. However, he has indicated his intention to appear at a later date.

Nationals MP and NSW Minister for Mental Health Bronnie Taylor, who is a close friend of Barilaro, said he told her on Friday morning he was not up to attend while he sought help amid intense public scrutiny.

Taylor suggested Barilaro had not been treated fairly by the inquiry, which took three weeks to call him to give evidence.

“This constant, constant attention on him. Him waiting three weeks until he was able to give his side of a story at an inquiry. I say to you and I say to anyone out there, ‘How would that make you feel and how do you think you would manage with that?’ ” she said on Friday.

Barilaro was due to give a full day of evidence to the long-running upper house inquiry, which has been reviewing the public service recruitment that saw him appointed to the US trade role in June. He has since withdrawn from the role amid intense backlash over the process.

Committee chair and Greens MP Cate Faerhmann said she was informed about 8am on Friday that Barilaro could not attend due to ill health.

In his first day facing the upper house inquiry on Monday, Barilaro said he had endured a “personal hell” since his controversial appointment and wished he never applied for the trade commissioner role.

“If I knew what I know now, I wouldn’t have walked into this shit show. I’m going to use those terms, I’m sorry to say because the trauma I’ve gone through over the last six, seven weeks has been significant,” he said.

Warriors shoey fan, lifetime ban, kicked out of Mt Smart Stadium, Calley Gibbons

The Warriors’ ‘shoey’ fan has reportedly been slapped with a lifetime ban after being kicked out of Mt Smart Stadium on Friday night.

The Sydney Morning Heraldreports Calley Gibbons was approached by police after his first ‘shoey’ and was escorted out of the ground by security, who informed him he was banned for life.

Gibbons became a Warriors cult hero after being spotted on TV sinking a beer from his shoe in front of the coaches box — where he has sat since 2006.

The 31-year-old brickie from Auckland was first spotted on TV during the Warriors’ homecoming game against the Tigers in Round 16, again in Round 20 against the Storm and most recently during the first half of Friday’s 42-18 win over the Bulldogs .

Gibbons told the herald he had no idea why he had been tossed out of the stadium given he was not intoxicated and had purchased the beer from inside the venue.

However according to the report stadium officials weren’t not happy with an unauthorized camera crew following Gibbons.

“I was evicted from the stadium and the security guard escorted me out and told me I had a lifetime ban,” he said.

“Your guess is as good as mine as to why I was kicked out. It’s just wrong.

“I told them I had purchased the beer from the venue, I was not intoxicated and it was my choice as to how I consumed the beer.

McLaren boss Zak Brown slammed for broken promise, Daniel Ricciardo contract saga

McLaren boss Zak Brown is copping backlash from his own network of reserve drivers as the Daniel Ricciardo and Oscar Piastri contract saga rages.

Australian F1 driver Ricciardo became embroiled in F1’s mid-year silly season following reports he will be replaced by young compatriot Piastri at McLaren in 2023.

The news erupted last week after Fernando Alonso blindsided the F1 world and jumped into Sebastian Vettel’s vacated seat at Aston Martin.

Alpine then announced Piastri would be the man to replace Alonso, only for the Melburnian to reject the seat — a bold move for a man who is yet to drive in F1.

Now Ricciardo has asked for a $21 million payout from McLaren for the early termination of his contract, according to Speedcafe.com.

But as the drama unfolds, the fallout has extended all the way to the United States.

IndyCar drivers Pato O’Ward, Colton Herta and Alex Palou were each targeting the vacant Alpine seat, but the trio have seemingly been sidelined by Brown.

According to leading IndyCar driver O’Ward, Brown dangled the F1 carrot in front of the Americans before going all in on Piastri.

“It’s not good for me to have that illusion. It’s a dream that’s very far away, because although I’m racing at a very high level, it’s still not enough to convince them,” O’Ward told ESPN.

“There are many things that come into play that are beyond me.

“I found it laughable. I saw it and I laughed.

“The same prize has been put in front of many other drivers by Brown. In the end, there is only one seat and not five.”

If Piastri does indeed take his place at McLaren, Ricciardo’s most likely landing spot would be Alpine, the French team formerly known as Renault where he spent two seasons in 2019 and 2020.

Alpine team principal Otmar Szafnauer slammed Piastri for his apparent betrayal in a blistering spray over the weekend.

“I expected more loyalty from Oscar than he is showing,” the Alpine team principal told Spanish publication The confidential.

“I started in 1989 in Formula 1 and I’ve never seen anything like this. And it’s not about Formula 1, it’s about integrity as a human being.

Oscar Piastri of Australia. Photo by Mark Thompson/Getty ImagesSource: Getty Images

“It could happen in ice hockey or soccer, it doesn’t matter. But you don’t do that. He signed a piece of paper, a document, saying he would do something different.

“For me, the way I grew up, I don’t need to sign a piece of paper and then have someone say, ‘You’re lying, because you signed this.’ For me, if you say, ‘Hey, help me, I’ll help you tomorrow,’ there’s no way I would go back on my word. No way.”

“He should (drive with the) team that has taken care of him, that has taken him to the world championship and, above all, that during the last year has put him in a Formula 1 car so that he would be ready, so that he would know the circuits,” Szafnauer added.

“He should (drive with the) team that has taken care of him, that has taken him to the world championship and, above all, that during the last year has put him in a Formula 1 car so that he would be ready, so that he would know the circuits,” Szafnauer added.

“You did everything I asked you to do (from Alpine to Piastri) and now I promise you that if you do this, I will do this. I don’t need a piece of paper where it says, ‘With a clause, I can get out of here’.

“There should be some loyalty to the fact that we have invested literally millions and millions of euros to prepare him. So I don’t understand it either, you should ask him.”

How Gerry was freed from Sydney ocean pool

When beachgoers contacted Sea Life Sydney Aquarium reporting a small shark stuck in Fairlight Rockpool, they were surprised to see the docile animal simply picked up and carried back to the ocean by wildlife rescue.

The thrilled onlookers and enthusiastic children, who had nicknamed the crested horn shark “Gerry”, watched it swim away to safety on Saturday afternoon after being stranded by low tide in the pool.

Aquarium aquarist Emily Best, who freed the shark, said the animals commonly became stuck in ocean pools from big surf or high tides.

“It happens quite a lot, especially in the netted swimming areas and ocean pools, this is the main thing we respond to,” she said.

“Once they’re in, it’s very difficult for them to get out of there; generally it takes someone to actually take them out again.

“It’s usually the council calling us when they are draining or cleaning the pools.”

The crested horn shark is a shallow dwelling species often found in rocky areas of Sydney Harbor and is harmless to humans.

They are commonly seen during the winter because they will be mating and laying their eggs – which are a distinctive spiral shape – in the shallow, rocky waters.
