Police are investigating reports of a shooting at the Oakland Technical High School campus Sunday afternoon.

OAKLAND, Calif. — Police are investigating reports of a shooting at the Oakland Technical High School campus Sunday afternoon.

Police have not released any official statement as to what happened, but officers were seen canvassing the neighborhood near the school.

Witnesses say that the 10-year-old Pop Warner Football Team from the Fresno area was playing the Oakland team when gunshots rang out in the stands. Witnesses say an adult male was shot, a 5-year-old girl was shot, and another female was grazed by a bullet.

“It’s just sad that I heard these kids running and screaming, and you know when you see these kids’ faces and how they react to things like that makes it even worse,” said Quintrell Dotson, Oakland Dynamites Pop Warner coach. “Kids don’t deserve to be seeing and witnessing things like this, kids don’t need to be around like this once you come to these events, whatever on the outside nature shouldn’t even be going on here so it just hurts that this happened today.”

Police have not said if any arrests have been made.

Police have also not said who they are looking for.

Former Putin advisor Anatoly Chubais suddenly sick from rare neurological disorder

A former high-ranking advisor to Russian President Vladimir Putin — who fled the country after the invasion of Ukraine — has fallen seriously ill and was in intensive care Sunday, a report said.

Anatoly Chubais was suffering from a neurological disorder at a European hospital, according to Ksenia Sobchak, a Russian television personality and friend of Chubais.

Sobchak, on Telegram, spoke with Chubais’ wife and was told he was suffering from Guillain-Barre syndrome.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Guillain-Barre occurs when a person’s immune system harms the body’s nerves, which can lead to muscle weakness and even paralysis.

Chubais, 67, had grown numb in his hands and legs. Specialists in “chemical protection suits” probed the room where he suddenly got sick, according to the New York Times.

Chubais did not explain why he stepped down from his post in March, though the assumption is it was due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on Feb. 24. His high-profile resignation was one of many following the start of the war.

He most recently was part of Putin’s envoy to international organizations on sustainable development and is well-known in the country after holding many top-level posts since the early 1990s.

His illness raises suspicion considering other Kremlin opponents have mysteriously and suddenly gotten sick in the past, most famously Alexei Navalny, who was apparently poisoned in 2020.

Amazon driver carjacked, run over in Baltimore; family pleads for help

BALTIMORE– Tiffany Nicolette is still in shock over what happened to her sister this weekend in the quiet Wyman Park neighborhood not far from Johns Hopkins University.

“It’s terrifying. It’s beyond just a carjacking. Really, it’s attempted murder,” Nicolette said. “It was a complete disregard for human life. I’m thankful that I did n’t lose my sister but her life will be forever changed.”

The single mom was delivering packages for Amazon as part of her second job around 4 am on Saturday.

She took her keys and phone but left her black Nissan Rogue running with the flashers on.

Someone got in the SUV, drove off, and then realized the key fob was not inside the vehicle.

The suspect immediately turned around and ran over the delivery driver at 35 miles an hour, knocking her over the hood, and causing severe injuries before confronting her.

“He mowed her down, called her names, and just ripped the key off her belt and just left her,” Nicolette said.

Her sister credits neighbors with coming to her aid.

No suspect description is available.

The victim remains in the hospital while the person who stole her SUV remains on the loose.

She has a broken hip, pelvis, shoulder, and ribs and a collapsed lung.

An online fundraiser by loved ones seeks to raise $20,000 to help pay for her medical care.

“Stay aware. Be vigilant about your surroundings,” Nicolette said. “Don’t think it can’t happen to you because it can.”

VA secretary: GOP-backed burn pit amendments would lead to ‘rationing of care for vets’

Proposed amendments by Republican senators to a bill aimed at aiding veterans exposed to toxic burn pits would result in “rationing of care for vets,” Veterans Affairs Secretary Denis McDonough said on Sunday.

“I can’t in good conscience do that, because the outcome of that will be rationing of care for vets, which is something I just can’t sign up for,” McDonough told Jake Tapper on CNN’s “State of the Union.”

Sen. Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) appeared on the show earlier Sunday morning to explain Republican opposition to the bill, which was blocked last week when it fell five votes short of the tally needed to bypass the filibuster.

All Democrats and eight Republicans backed the proposal, and Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer (DN.Y.) said Democrats will bring the bill forward a second time on Monday.

Republicans have accused their Democratic colleagues of a “budgetary trick” in the bill’s funding.

Toomey said Sunday that “to hide behind a veterans bill the opportunity to go on an unrelated $400 billion spending spree is wrong.”

But McDonough said the dollar amount Republicans are worried about isn’t a Trojan horse for the Democrats’ agenda.

“If you look at the bill for $400 billion that he’s talking about, you won’t see it. You would have to go deep in some — into some charts of the back of the CBO [Congressional Budget Office] report about — to find that. Why is that fund in the bill? The fund is in the bill so that we can ensure [that] all the spending for this program is for the veterans exposed to these toxins.”

GOP-backed amendments would put a year-on-year cap on spending and do away with the funding for veterans after 10 years.

“So the impact of that would be, if we — if his estimates are wrong about what we will spend in any given year, that means that we may have to ration care for veterans,” McDonough said.

“The CBO suggested, for one program we’re currently running, the MISSION Act, that we would be spending $14 billion a year less this year. So they’re $14 billion off. And that’s just four years out from their initial investment.”

Toomey is “asking us to take their word for it in eight or 10 years,” the secretary said. “I can’t in good conscience do that, because the outcome of that will be rationing of care for vets, which is something I just can’t sign up for.”

Putin pledges to expand Russia’s naval power, citing US as top threat

Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a naval doctrine on Sunday that accused the United States of seeking to dominate the world’s oceans and extends Moscow’s own ambitions into the Arctic Ocean.

Putin inked the document shortly before delivering a patriotic speech on Navy Day urging Russia to defend its national security interests, according to Reuters.

The 55-page naval doctrine says Russia will aim to become a “great maritime navy” with a presence across the world to counter the “strategic policy of the USA to dominate the world’s oceans.”

“Guided by this doctrine, the Russian Federation will firmly and resolutely defend its national interests in the world’s oceans, and having sufficient maritime power will guarantee their security and protection,” the doctrine reads, per Reuters.

It also says Russia will expand its ambitions in the Arctic Ocean. The US has previously warned Russia and China against aggression in the Arctic region.

Speaking at the city of St. Petersburg off the Neva River later in the day, Putin said Russia will “defend our interests” in claimed territories.

“We need to take resolute action today, given the challenges we’re facing,” the Russian leader said. “The homeland for everyone is a sacred concept. We need to defend it.”

As Putin finished, he earned a large “hoo-rah” from the naval sailors and officers who gathered for Navy Day, which is celebrated on the last Sunday of July.

Putin did not mention the war in Ukraine, but he pledged to defend Russian naval power in the Black and Azov seas.

“We need to rely on our capabilities, and anyone who would like to endanger our sovereignty will get a strong response,” Putin said.

The Russian president ordered an invasion of Ukraine in late February, in part because he feared Ukraine would join the western security alliance NATO.

With the US spending billions to arm Ukraine, tensions between Moscow and Washington are higher than at any point since the Cold War.

However, Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on Friday held their first call since the war began, to discuss a possible prisoner swap.

Man with loaded AK-47 arrested outside Iranian journalist’s Brooklyn home

Alinejad was targeted in an alleged kidnapping plot last year by Iranian nationals after speaking out against the Iranian regime. The indictment in that case alleged the plot was organized by an Iranian intelligence official, but Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs denied any involvement, calling the accusation “baseless and ridiculous,” according to semi-official Iranian state media.

Alinejad said she was home Thursday when federal agents informed her about the armed individual.

“I was told by the FBI to ‘stay away from your home,'” Alinejad told CNN by phone Sunday. “I was shocked. I couldn’t even believe it. I was telling myself, ‘if I opened the door, what was I going to do?'”

NYPD officers arrested Khalid Mehdiyev Thursday afternoon as he drove away from the Brooklyn neighborhood after he failed to stop at a stop sign, according to a federal criminal complaint obtained by CNN. It also said NYPD officers found he was driving without a valid license. Law enforcement officials later found a suitcase in the backseat of his vehicle containing an AK-47-style assault rifle loaded with a round in the chamber, an additional second magazine and $1,100 in $100 bills, according to the complaint.

He is charged with possessing a firearm with an obliterated serial number. Mehdiyev is set to be back in court August 12. CNN has reached out to his attorney, Stephanie Marie Carvlin, for comment but has not heard back.

Law enforcement officials say they saw Mehdiyev, a Yonkers resident, in the Brooklyn neighborhood on two occasions last week, Wednesday and Thursday, and also discovered that he’d been issued a parking ticket in the same neighborhood the weekend before, on July 23, according to the complaint.

On Thursday morning Mehdiyev drove a gray Subaru Forester SUV with Illinois license plates and remained in the area for several hours where he “behaved suspiciously,” the complaint states. On one occasion, Mehdiyev got in and out of his car several times, ordered food delivery service to his car de él, and approached a home in the neighborhood – where Alinejad resides – peering inside the windows and attempting to open the front door, according to to the complaint.

Alinejad says she was on a Zoom call with Chairman of the Human Rights Foundation, Garry Kasparov, and Venezuelan politician and opposition leader Leopoldo López when she found out about the armed individual.

“I’m glad my friend @Alinejad Masih is healthy and safe and that the police acted capably against what might have been a deadly situation,” Kasparov tweeted from his verified account Sunday.

The activist shared a security video on her official Twitter account of the man who she says federal agents told her was the same man arrested by police Thursday.

“These are the scary scenes capturing a man who tried to enter my house in New York with a loaded gun to kill me,” she tweeted, although no gun can be seen in the image. “Last year the FBI stopped the Islamic Republic from kidnapping me. My crime is giving voice to voiceless people. The US administration must be tough on terror.”

Alinejad says she has spoken monthly with federal agents since alleged the kidnapping attempt last year.

“I really thought that the plot was over. I thought, ‘OK, I can focus on my job’ — which I am going to do, nothing is going to stop me,” she said.

“I see this as the continuation of trying to keep Iranian women down,” the activist told CNN.

Alinejad, who frequently shares photos and videos of what she says are “voiceless” Iranian women through her social media accounts, says Iranian officials recently warned her about continuing her activism.

A spokesperson for Iran’s Headquarter for Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice announced in July that anyone who sends videos to Alinejad regarding the hijab or commits other anti-government activities is subject to a sentence of up to 10 years in prison.

“It’s the 21st century: Enough is enough,” Alinejad said. “I left my country, Iran, to be safe, to be the voice for voiceless people. That’s my crime. I want to enjoy freedom of expression as an American.”

CNN’s Liam Rielly contributed to this report.
