Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Make Huge Improvement to Gen 5 Pokemon

As spotted in the latest Pokemon Scarlet and Violet trailer, it appears the new games will be making a big improvement to a Generation 5 Pokemon.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet will be introducing plenty of new Pokemon to the franchise, but the games will also feature many returning Pokemon as well. The returning Pokemon in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet hail from every generation in the franchise, and while there will be some Pokemon who don’t make the cut, fans can expect hundreds to collect once the new games launch later this year.

No one involved with Pokemon Scarlet and Violet have released a list of returning Pokemon in the games, but fans know of at least some of the games’ returning Pokemon thanks to the three trailers that have been released so far. Each new Pokemon Scarlet and Violet trailer has given fans a look at returning Pokemon that will be featured in the new games, with one such Pokemon being Generation 5’s Eelektross.

GAMERANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

RELATED: Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Artwork Reveals Map of Paldea Region

Eelektross is an Electric-type Pokemon and the final form of Tynamo, evolved from Eelektrik when using a Thunder Stone. Eelektross first debuted in the Generation 5 Pokemon games Pokemon Black and White, with its sprite showing it standing on the ground. But from Pokemon X and Y onwards, Eelektross has been depicted as floating in air, giving the creature a flatter (and arguably far less interesting) look. But as spotted by Twitter user SibiruG, and reported by Nintendo Life, Eelektross is getting a big change in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.

The latest Pokemon Scarlet and Violet gameplay trailer gives players a brief look at Eelektross as it will appear in the new games. To the delight of Generation 5 Pokemon fans, Eelektross in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet appears to be in its original, standing state in the new games. It seems many fans approve of this change back to how Eelektross was originally presented in Pokemon Black and Whiteas the tweet has over 14,000 likes at the time of this writing.

It seems many fans are happy with Eelektross having its original look, and it will be interesting to see if any tweaks are made to how the other returning Pokemon in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are presented. Future trailers for the games should give fans a better idea of what to expect on that front, though in some cases fans may have to wait to play the games for themselves. The good news is that the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet release date is merely months away, so the wait is coming to an end.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet launch November 18, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.

Dell cuts workstation laptop and desktop prices in half

There are a lot of excellent desktop computers and laptops to pick from, but it’s often hard to argue against the immense range and versatility of Dell’s offerings, especially if you’re going for high-end work machines that can handle things like Maya or AutoCAD . That’s why we always look forward to Dell’s Precision workstation deals, like these two — one on a desktop and the other on a laptop — so let’s dive right in and see what’s available.

Precision 3650 Tower Workstation — $879, was $1,767

A Dell Precision 3650 Tower Workstation sits on a white background.

If you’re looking through some great desktop computer deals, the Precision 3560 not only has some great base specs, but it also has a lot of room for customization. For example, while the base model comes with an 11th-gen Intel i5-11600, a great mid-ranged CPU, you can upgrade it up to an Intel Xeon W-1390P, a high-end server-grade CPU that will blow pretty much any CPU task out of the water. The same goes for the RAM, which comes as 8GB non-ECC with the base model, but can be upgraded to 128GB ECC. Similarly, while there’s no GPU in the base model, you can upgrade it with either single or double Nvidia or AMD GPUs if you want to go for a graphics- or video-editing powerhouse. All-in-all, you can build this workstation exactly as you need it.

Precision 3561 Workstation — $1,399, was $2,807

The Dell Precision 3561 Mobile Workstation, with a graphics app on the screen.

If you need something a bit more mobile, then we’d suggest this as one of the better laptop deals for the day. The Precision 3561 is a powerhouse in a small and portable form-factor, with an insane Nvidia Quadro T600, 4GB, which makes it perfect for design and GPU-intense work. It also comes with an 11th-gen Intel i5-11500H, a great mid-tier CPU, and combined with the 16GB of RAM, it should see you handling most software easily, although you can always upgrade the RAM up to 64GB if you’ re doing something like AutoCAD. The base hard drive is a 512GB SSD, with the option to upgrade to a 2TB SSD as well as grab secondary storage of either up to 512GB SSD or 2TB HDD. You can also change the screen to be touch-enabled, although you do lose out on sRGB coverage, so if you’re a graphics designer, it’s probably not worth it, although we think a battery upgrade is.

Ready to Go Live? A Beginner’s Guide to Game Streaming With OBS

If you watch streamers on Twitch you may have heard someone mention a program called OBS, or Open Broadcaster Software. This free, open-source program is the go-to choice for streaming content online. It brings every part of your stream together so you can control your mic, camera, streamed content, graphic effects, and settings from one place.

While programs like Twitch Studio simplify online streaming, many streamers praise the amount of control they get from OBS and urge newbies to learn the program. It may seem complicated at first, but OBS is an intuitive program overall. It’s also free and is supported by a motivated community, so why not take the time to learn?

How to Set Up OBS

twitch stream key

First, you’ll need to download OBS. The program is available for Windows, macOS, and Linux. Once installed, the OBS auto-configuration wizard will open and help you customize the program to your needs. It scans your PC and makes any necessary adjustments to settings, though you can change all these settings after the fact if you don’t like the way they’re set up.

If you’re going to use OBS to stream through a live-streaming service, such as Twitch, you’ll also need to link your Stream Key. Each Twitch streamer has an individual Stream Key that authorizes OBS to stream via your account. To find your Stream Key, log in to your Twitch account and navigate to Account Settings > Channel and Videos > Stream.

add stream key

Your key will be at the top of this screen. Copy your code and head back to OBS. Open File > Settings and click the streaming tab. Select your streaming service from the drop-down menu (we’re using Twitch here), click Use Stream Key, and paste in the code you copied.

Click Connect Account, sign in to your account, and authorize access. OBS should now be configured to stream on your Twitch account.

Customize the Stream

OBS Home Screen

Now that your account is linked to OBS, you can start streaming. However, you should take a moment to acquaint yourself with the interface and controls. Along the bottom row, you’ll find several boxes that serve different purposes.

the scenes box will allow you to quickly swap between your source video and anything you may want to display to your audience (for example, an AFK screen or countdown timer until your stream starts). the Source section is where you can add various content sources, such as your gameplay or face cam. These sources are tied to whatever scene you’re currently in so they won’t affect anything else.

your Sound Mixer segment is where you can manage your audio for these various sources and any microphones you are using. the scene transition section is where you can add an effect when you transition between scenes. Under Controls is where you can start your stream, record video, access settings, and more.

OBS Home screen with Chat and Stream Info docks up

Open the Docks menu to add more sections to the OBS display or remove the ones you don’t need. Some elements you might want to add include a Stream Chat box to review messages from your audience and a Stream Information box where you can add a title, bio, category, and any tags that might make your stream easier to find.

Click the Settings button in the bottom-right corner of the OBS window to access additional options so you can start using the program like a professional. For instance, you can click the Hotkeys tab to assign tasks to different keys on your keyboard. Things like stopping and starting the stream, your webcam, and transitions can all be set by clicking on their corresponding black bar and hitting the key you want to use.

OBS Hot Keys menu

There are countless things you can do on OBS to set yourself apart from other streamers using proprietary software. Luckily, the team on OBS has a resource forum where you can ask questions, support other streams, or even communicate with the OBS team if you have requests for new features.

Start Your Stream

obs streaming

When you are ready to start your stream, open the PC game you want to broadcast. You’ll want to make sure you’re streaming the correct program, so hit the plus (+) icon in the Sources section and select Game Capture.

Open the source you just added and use the drop-down menu to select Capture specific window, then choose your game from the list of open programs. Press okay and the preview window in the middle of the screen should display the game. You can then change the size of the game window.

Through a similar process, you can also add a webcam (Video Capture Device) and microphone (Audio Input Device). Just select the appropriate device to use and OBS will set it up. You can then adjust your video so it fits to your screen.

When you’re ready to go live, hit the Start Streaming button in the bottom-right corner of the program. You will then start streaming directly to your Twitch stream.

Game Pass Vs. The New PS Plus, The Comparison We Had To Make

Two months ago, Sony reimagined PS Plus, its longtime membership program for PlayStation owners. Now, it looks a whole lot like Microsoft’s Game Pass: For roughly the same amount of money, both offer access to a Netflix-style games-on-demand library. Obviously, we had to stack the two services up against each other.

Price

Game Pass is available as a subscription for console, PC, or both. The two separated tiers cost $US10 ($14) a month. Xbox Live Ultimate, which joins the two and provides access to the EA Play Library (a similar games-on-demand service) and Xbox Live Gold, costs $US15 ($21) a month. There is no way to pay for multiple months or a year up front at a tiered markdown (at least officially).

PS Plus is also available for a subscription, but it gets very complicated very fast. There are two new tiers. The Extra is $US15 ($21) a month, or $US100 ($139) for the year, and offers free monthly games, online play, and a catalog of on-demand games including some of Ubisoft’s library. Premium is $US18 ($25) a month, or $US120 ($167) a year, and adds access to classic games, game trials, and cloud streaming for most of the games in the library. That’s a huge price difference, and while PS Plus Premium is more expensive month-to-month, it’s actually almost 50 per cent cheaper if you commit to the whole year.

Winner: PS Plus

streaming

Game Pass allows for cloud-streaming, provided you pay for the Ultimate tier pricier. The streaming functionality is technically still “in beta,” but it is for all intents and purposes up and running. Microsoft recommends internet speeds of at least 10mbps for mobile devices and 20mbps for consoles and PCs. Based on Kotaku‘s testing, it’s…fine? Despite cloud gaming’s huge advancements recently, streaming still can’t compete with downloaded games. The latency, however minor, is unignorable. As such, cloud gaming is best used for puzzlers, chill RPGs, light platformers, and other games that don’t demand split-second reflexes.

Microsoft says “more than 100” games are currently streamable via cloud gaming on Xbox Game Pass, but more games are added every few weeks. Right now, the Game Pass library currently lists 381 games as capable of streaming.

Stray. (Screenshot: Annapurna / Kotaku)Stray. (Screenshot: Annapurna / Kotaku)

To unlock streaming on PS Plus you need to buy the $US18 ($25) a month tier. And even then, the streaming quality is nothing to write home about. At best, it’s as good as Xbox Cloud Gaming. Sometimes it’s worse. Roughly 320 games from the Premium library can be streamed on console or PC, and a good chunk of those are PS3 games and classics rather than the full PlayStation 4 library. For example, Marvel’s Avengers and stray are available on console but not in the streaming library.

Most notably, you can’t stream PS Plus games to your phone. For now, the service relies on Remote Play, meaning you need a console to play on mobile and you must be on the same WiFi network.

Winner: Game Pass

Game Library

Of course, a games-on-demand service is only as good as the one thing it’s supposed to provide: games.

Right now, the Xbox Game Pass library has about 475 games, but that tally comprises the library across both tiers, including the 92 games currently part of EA Play. The main draw, of course, is that Microsoft puts its entire first-party portfolio on the platform. That also includes the major tent poles — like halo-infinite and ForzaHorizon 5alongside forthcoming blockbusters like Starfield and red fall — which become available the day they came out. Third-party games tend to stick around for a year at most, though some, like Rockstar’s open-world Hold ‘Em simulator Red Dead Redemption 2, become unavailable after a matter of months. It’s unpredictable.

Halo Infinity. (Screenshot: 343 Industries)Halo Infinity. (Screenshot: 343 Industries)

The library also regularly cycles in third-party games and often serves as a launch pad for indie gems. This year alone, the twee Zelda-like Tunicthe snowboarding sim shreddersand the puzzler-cum-dungeon-crawler Loot River all launched on Game Pass. (here’s Kotaku‘s list of the best under-the-radar games currently available.) Developers have acknowledged to Kotaku that debuting on Game Pass cuts into initial sales but is ultimately worth it for the tradeoff in publicity.

PS Plus Extra currently includes around 430 PS4 and PS5 games, while Premium adds another 395 from PS1, PS2, PS3 (streaming only), and PSP. While the classics are a nice bonus, the biggest draw by far are the PlayStation exclusives like Horizon Zero Dawn, God of War, Spider-Man: Miles Moralesand Bloodborne. Unlike Microsoft, Sony has committed to not putting its newest releases on the service day-and-date, and if Returnal arriving a year after release is any indication, it seems like a good bet that players will have to wait at least a year to 18 months before newer stuff appears.

There are plenty of strong contenders in the third-party department though. games like Final Fantasy 7 Remake, Prey, Control, doomand Tetris effect are all present, as are indies like Light blue, Outer Wilds, Dead Cellsand Virginia. The library has plenty of diversity and was bolstered most recently from the same-day addition of stray, which is already a 2022 GOTY contest. The Ubisoft component, led by Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is also a strong compliment. At the same time, Sony hasn’t yet demonstrated it is, or will be, as aggressive as Microsoft in courting a steady stream of third party day-and-date additions. There’s also no PC-exclusive portion of the library.

Winner: PS Plus

Ari: Going into this exercise, I totally imagined it’d paint a clear picture of Game Pass superiority, but these two services seem fundamentally identical to me — right down to the UI — with Sony’s new version of PS Plus marginally better in the few aspects that matter. The prices are mostly the same, but the option to pay for a year of PS Plus at a “discount” edges out Game Pass in that regard. Sure, Game Pass’ big draw is that it puts Microsoft’s first-party games on the service at launch, but…Microsoft has barely any first-party games out this year! Right now, that perk seems like little more than a marketing line.

Ethan: I also thought Game Pass would be the clear winner coming out of this, but now I’m conflicted as well. Not everyone can afford to pay for a full year up front, but it really changes the calculus in this matchup. There are some other key differences as well, and while I don’t think they make one a clear winner over the other, I do think it makes it easier to decide which you want to pay for. Want immediate access to a meaty back catalog of some of the biggest and best games from the last generation? PS Plus wins. Want to stay current on some of the best new games coming out every month and play them at any time on your phone? Then it’s Game Pass all the way.

‘Halo Infinite’ August update will improve player customization

343 Industries has detailed the upcoming halo-infinite August update, which will feature even more player customization options.

Sharing in a new blog post, 343 has confirmed that halo-infinite‘s next Drop Pod update is set to arrive on August 9 and will focus specifically on “improving the player experience,” quality of life changes, and other fan-requested features.

As of right now, players have access to a collection of visors that are split across five armor cores, but with the new update, Halo Infinite will allow unlocked visors to be used interchangeably between all of the game’s armor cores instead. This means all visors in the game will work across all helmets in the game.

Credit: 343 Industries

Another update to helmets will allow for certain Mark VII helmet attachments to be worn across multiple Mark VII helmets. “This is a response to player feedback we’ve seen requesting an expansion of the compatibility of Mark VII helmet attachments,”343 explained, adding that it was difficult because most helmet attachments for the Mark VII core are designed to fit a specific helmet, while some also fit well on other Mark VII helmets.

The team managed to work around the issues, which involved avoiding awkward clipping and large holes, in the helmets, but 343 noted that while not every Mark VII helmet will be able to use every helmet attachment, the total number of options has been “greatly increased.”

halo-infinite multiplayer will also be getting some tweaks. The Drop Pod will be introducing a ranked Doubles playlist and social Team Doubles playlist two weeks after the update drops. 343 is also eventually going to let players select their matchmaking region for faster search times.

Finally, players’ active Challenges will also be viewable while in a match on the pause menu when the update goes live, allowing for easier access.

In other news, Capcom is going to reveal Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak’s first major post-launch update next week.

Samsung’s New Phone Repair Kits Are Better Than Nothing

Samsung officially introduced its repair kit program in the US this week. Now, anyone who owns one of the handful of Galaxy phones covered by the program can order the parts, tools, and instructions needed to fix their devices themselves.

The company first announced its repair program in April. Thanks to some laws in Europe that require devices to indicate how repairable they are, similar legislation that secures consumers’ rights to repair their own phones, laptops, and gadgets feels all but inevitable in the US. Companies like Samsung and Apple are eager to get ahead of it and set the tone for what device repairability will mean. Problem is, now that these companies have unveiled their repair kit programs, it appears they offer more of a morsel of reparability than a full buffet.

Each Samsung Galaxy repair kit includes the tools, spare parts, and step-by-step instructions needed to fix broken screens, charging ports, and glass-backed chassis.

Photography: Samsung

Samsung has only made repair kits available for some of its products, namely the Galaxy S20 and Galaxy S21 phones, and the Galaxy Tab 7+. That’s seven devices total, out the hundreds of Samsung gadgets still in service. What’s more, only certain parts of each device can be repaired: The screen, charging port, and back panel glass. (Galaxy Tab owners can also replace the battery.) While Samsung’s repair kit rollout is limited, it’s been a smoother process so far than when Apple introduced its repair program in April. Apple’s kits were expensive, unwieldy, and often more bother than they were worth.

Samsung, along with Google (which makes available parts and tools for its Pixel phones) has partnered with the right-to-repair advocacy group iFixit. It’s a good partnership and a step toward a more repairable future. But for now that future is only manifesting in fits and starts. If Samsung, Apple, and other companies want to build out a robust self-repair program before the regulatory hammer comes down, they’ll have to step up their efforts.

Here’s some more news from the Gear desk.

Hey Alexa, Sweep My Floor

Say what you will about Amazon, but there’s no denying that it’s just a big ol’ hungry bear that wants to gobble up everything around it. The latest entity to slide screaming into Amazon’s gaping maw is iRobot, the company that makes Roomba vacuums. Amazon will be absorbing the company for a chill $1.7 billion in cash, which seems like chump change against its $3.9 billion feast of OneMedical last month. (That’s right, Amazon is a health care provider now too.)

Sure, there are all sorts of privacy implications from this acquisition, especially when you consider that Amazon may soon own the map of your home’s floor plan collected by the sensors on iRobot’s vacuums. But hey, just think of the other possibilities: Ring cameras in your robot lawn mower! Flying Dustbuster drones that listen to your conversations! Truly anything will be possible.

Clubhouse Subdivides Itself

Remember Clubhouse? The audio-based social network took off in 2020 during the early days of the pandemic, when it provided relief from the isolation and Zoom fatigue many of us were feeling. (Ha ha, glad that’s over, right?) Since admission to the app was invite-only, it lent the Clubhouse experience a sense of exclusivity that made it feel exciting. Soon, Clubhouse became the go-to virtual meet space for Silicon Valley bigwigs to delight each other with their collective presence. Then the app opened up to the general public, and its appeal fizzled faster than a warm La Croix.

Now, Clubhouse is trying to recapture some of its old cool by making parts of itself exclusive again. A new feature lets users split rooms off into multiple Clubhouses (Clubs house?) that will enable them to keep their conversations private. Clubhouse is taking applications to create “Houses” now but will be rolling them out on a case-by-case basis.

Clearly Clubhouse is hoping that these smaller, more curated experiences lure users back from the many other, much more popular audio chat services. when announcing the feature on Twitter, Clubhouse CEO Paul Davison wrote, “The best social experiences are not open to everyone. They are small and curated. This is what creates intimacy, trust, and friendship.”

Instagram NFT’s

After a controversial move to prioritize its TikTok clone Reels in user’s feeds, Instagram is digging in on another buzzy online trend: NFTs. In May, Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri announced that the social platform would dip its toes into the then-piping-hot NFT waters. Of course, the NFT market has cooled off considerably since May. Still, this week Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced that his company is expanding its plan to enable NFTs across Instagram in more than 100 countries. The feature will let users create posts as NFTs, and buy or sell them using digital wallets.

Speaking of non-fungible assets …

Take an NFT, It’ll Last Longer

The hallmark of NFTs has always been that they’re digital. Artists minting their works as NFTs create a marker on a blockchain that indicates that a work is an original. Otherwise, the piece itself is as infinitely re-creatable as any online GIF. (OK, it’s actually way more complicated than that, so here’s a guide explaining exactly how NFTs work.)

Now, thanks to companies like Infinite Objects and Tokenframe, you can take that digital art and stick it on your wall. This week on the Gadget Lab podcast, WIRED’s Lauren Goode and Michael Calore talk about the weird world of NFTs and how physical frames for digital art might make the whole thing more approachable for the uninitiated.

Here’s a quick video with all the new Pokemon Scarlet and Violet news

Nintendo condensed their Pokemon Presents stream

Just the other day we got a lengthy Pokemon Presents video that dug deep into pokemon scarlet and violet news: now we have a distillation of that mainline focus while cutting out all the other stuff. Titled “world overview,” the video was put up separately the day after the presentation, and serves as a six-minute rundown of the Scarlet and violet bits.

As a recap, here is what the pokemon scarlet and violet news video entails:

  • The overview of the “partner legendary” system, which allows you to use the new box legendaries as vehicles (land, sea, and air)
  • A breakdown of the story, and how you’re playing the role of a student at either the Orange (Scarlet) or Grape (violet) academy
  • There are “eight gyms, three stories, and no set path” for conquering the gyms and story progression
  • An intro to some of the cast (Professors Sada and Turo, Director Clavell, Mr. Jacq, your friend Nemona, Arven the upperclassman, Penny the “shy student,” and Grusha the ice type gym leader)
  • A reminder of some existing old Pokemon, as well as the regional Wooper Paldean form, Fidough, and Cetitan
  • Footage of the multiplayer function, involving co-op with up to three people and raid battles
  • The Terastal gimmick, where Pokemon crystalize and can change types

After this presentation, I’m pretty into Scarlet and violet, mostly due to the promise of the partner exploration system and multiplayer, in tandem. It sounds like a good time to just connect with someone and roam around the Paldea region.

Twitter Spaces bar on top a turn-off for some, official response

Twitter recently launched Spaces through which you can have live audio conversations with others on the platform.

Spaces are public, so anyone can join as a listener, including people who are not your followers as long as they have a link to the Space.

The conversations in the Spaces can be recorded by the host which can be replayed later. There can only be 2 co-hosts and 11 speakers but there is no restriction on the number of listeners.

Twitter Spaces bar on top a turn-off

Well, it would be an understatement to say users don’t like the new Spaces bar and want to get rid of it as soon as possible (1,two,3,4,5,6,7).

In order to make it ecstatically more pleasing, Twitter introduced a new Spaces purple bar on the top. Here, you can see info like who’s hosting, topics being discussed, who’s shared a tweet, and much more.

Twitter Space bar to turn off
Source

@TwitterSpaces I don’t know how you user test things but new spaces top bar is just pain and unusable. Can you instead of waiting minute for that flowing text make change on tap? It would save me 90% of the time. Wen I see 3+ spaces like that I just surrender
Source

Stop trying to make spaces a thing @twitter. I don’t care, I don’t want it and yet I can’t seem to remove it from the top of the app. Does anyone know how to get rid of these?
Source

Many users find it forced and instead would have liked it to be a customizable feature where they could have the option to turn it on or off in the settings.

Issue acknowledged

As it turns out, Twitter support has shed some light on this issue and said that there isn’t a way to remove it, but are exploring ways to give users more control over Spaces in the future.

Sony INZONE H9 Headset Review – Get in the Zone with the INZONE

The Sony INZONE H9 headset is one of the entries to the Inzone series of headsets, offering users gaming-friendly features that will heighten one’s experience in game and without further ado, let’s get right into the review.

Design

Just by looking at the design for the Sony INZONE H9 headsets, you can see that it shares a lot of similarities with the PlayStation 5, and that’s because it actually works seamlessly for the PlayStation 5 consoles with the supports the console’s Tempest 3D AudioTech provides. The whole design for the headset is that it’s white in colour, other than the expandable arm and the earcup padding which are in black.

Speaking about the earcups, the Sony INZONE H9 offers a leather padding for the earcups, a feature which isn’t present for the other INZONE headsets. The leather padding offers a great amount of comfort for me, especially for those long gaming sessions that I tend to have with doing dungeon runs and raids in the critically acclaimed MMORPG – Final Fantasy XIV online.

While it does offer comfort, I’m personally not a big fan of the material being made of leather because I have a tendency to sweat easily. But fortunately enough, it doesn’t take too much effort for me to wipe off the sweat. Another flu that I have with the INZONE H9 being majority white in colour, is that it needs a lot of extra effort to keep the headset clean. While the design is made to pair with the clean and slick design of the PlayStation 5, it would be appreciated to have other color choices for me to choose from.

The INZONE H9 also offers accessibility controls on both sides of the earcups. On the left, there are the volume scroll wheel, a button for the Noise Canceling / Ambient Sound mode as well as a USB port type-C and a port for the microphone. While on the right side, there’s the power button, the bluetooth button as well as a special button for raising and lowering your audio while you chat with friends during gaming sessions.

Sony INZONE H9 ReviewOne thing I appreciate about the INZONE H9 is that it offers swiveling earcups so that it’s very easy to carry around, whether you have it rested around your neck or if it’s fit inside your bag. Although you might need a bigger space for your bag because the headset is on the bigger size.

Sony INZONE H9 Review

Experience and INZONE Hub

Sony INZONE H9 ReviewAs previously mentioned, the INZONE H9 is a pretty big headset in terms of size. And while the plastic material of the headset does make it feel like its fragile, but it’s still a sturdy headset regardless.

The headset comes with a USB receiver for you to connect the headset to a PC or a PlayStation 5. There’s also a switch for the targeted platforms, meaning that you should make sure to switch it to the PlayStation 5 when playing on the console. And to use it on the console, just plug the USB in and you’ll be able to use all the features of the INZONE H9 headset.

Sony INZONE H9 ReviewFor PC users, you’ll need to have the third party app called INZONE Hub installed to have all the features available when using the headset on your PC or laptops. Once you’ve connected the headset, you’ll have access to customize and make your own sound profiles.

But if you’re not as tech savvy when it comes to creating sound profiles, not to worry, you can use the preset profile that are on the the INZONE Hub. The app also lets you adjust volumes, change the headset mode as well as personalizing the Spatial Sounds for the INZONE H9.

Audio and Mic

Sony INZONE H9 ReviewOver the course of my time using the INZONE H9, I played through some games that allows me to utilize the 3D audio from the spatial sound technology of the headset. While in PUBG, I was able to hear the footsteps of any nearby enemies and while in Stray, I was able to enjoy the environmental sounds while strolling through the city.

I had also used the headset while listening to music on Spotify and also watching videos on YouTube and Netflix. While using the preset sound profile, I found that it does enhance my music listening and movie watching experiences as it makes the sound quality better.

Sony INZONE H9 ReviewWhile the Active Noise Canceling mode was active, the surrounding sound does feel isolated but not entirely as I was still able to hear the sounds coming from my room’s fan and the Ambient mode also lets you hear your surroundings while talking with someone.

The mic on the INZONE H9 is pretty decent, while talking on discord with my friends, they told me that my voice was particularly louder and clearer than usual but other than that, there’s not much else that can be said for the mic.

BatteryLife

Sony INZONE H9 ReviewThroughout our review, the battery life for the Sony INZONE H9 is relatively good and it lives up to the advertised 32 hours that Sony had said. If you’re a casual user, the headset can even last up longer than a week, which is great. The time that you have to take to fully recharge the headset won’t take long either thanks to the fast-charging USB cable.

verdict

Sony INZONE H9 Review

While being the more premium INZONE headset, the H9 is the best gaming headset there is if you’re looking for one to use on PC and the PlayStation 5. With the PlayStation releasing more games for PC, you might want a companion headset to experience those PlayStation games. And while the PlayStation 5 already has its Pulse 3D headset, the INZONE H9 isn’t a bad replacement to it since it’s a lot more comfortable to wear.

Although, I do wish that the quality for the microphone is a bit better to make up for that, the audio performance is amazing, which is also elevated with the INZONE Hub. If you have the budget for it, the H9 is a good pick up but if you don’t, you can consider the H3 and H7 as a more budget friendly alternative.
