She said wanted to avoid the show being a nostalgia piece for grown-ups.

Australian cricketer Michael Clarke confirms new romance with Jasmine Stefanovic’s sister Jade Yarborough

Michael Clarke has gone Instagram official with his new romance with a loved-up display with Jasmine Stefanovic’s sister.

Just a week after rumors surfaced of the former Aussie cricketer’s relationship with Jade Yarborough, the couple have confirmed they’re an item.

And what better way to announce a new partner than on a romantic getaway in Italy?

Yarborough was reportedly introduced to Clarke through her brother-in-law, TV personality Karl Stefanovic, and jetted away to Europe together last week.

Overnight, Yarborough showed off pictures of the pair roaming the cobbled streets of Italy together, confirming the rumors by posing with Clarke’s arm draped around her.

The pair appear to be having a luxurious break, with Yarborough sharing footage of them taking in the scenery on a boat, taking in the sunset and showing off a stay in a flashy hotel in the capital.

“Romaaa Issa my viiibe,” she wrote to her 10,000 Instagram followers.

While Clarke has yet to post about his new love on his own page, he appeared smitten in the pics shared by Yarborough, smiling for the camera.

Yarborough appears to have her fashion designer sister’s creative streak, working as an interior designer and founding homewares business Merci Maison.

Her Instagram page displays her love for holidays in the sunshine and get togethers with her girlfriends.

Their new relationship comes eight months after Clarke’s on-off romance with PE Nation designer Pip Edwards ended.

Clarke and Edwards started dating after his high-profile divorce from Kyly Clarke in 2020 and the pair are said to have remained good friends despite their split.

But it wasn’t to be.

Speaking on KIIS FM, Michael said he was “unfortunately not” in a sexual relationship with his ex.

“We went to palm beach last weekend with my sister, her husband and two kids and all of a sudden because we are having a family holiday with our daughter we are back together,” he said.

“Kyly and I have said it from day one, we have such a great friendship, and the fact we can do that for our daughter, I don’t think there’d be an ex-husband and wife that are not together that wouldn’t ‘t want that for their child.”

The Last Son review – outlaw has to kill or be killed by his own kids in gothic western | movies

yesSomewhere in the wild west, sometime after the civil war, legendary outlaw Isaac LeMay (Sam Worthington) decides to take his fate into his own hands and circumvent a prophecy that he can only be killed by one of his own children. That means tracking down his many offspring from him and slaying them first, one by one. A man of very few words but blessed with an inordinate abundance of hair and uncanny luck when it comes to avoiding bullets, LeMay has a few talents, but not a lot of charm. Also, he’s clearly never read any fairy tales of Greek tragedies otherwise he’d know that an ironic twist lies directly in his path in the last act, one that most viewers will see coming from thousands across the prairies and hilly terrain.

Meanwhile, LeMay is himself being tracked by various unaligned bounty hunters and folks with a grudge or cause, such as gun-and-tracker-for-hire Solomon (Thomas Jane), a former Union soldier who was raised by Native Americans, Cal ( Colson Baker, AKA rapper Machine Gun Kelly) a son of LeMay who’s taken up the family trade of outlawing even though he never met his Pa. (In a couple of on-the-nose scenes the latter gets to operate an actual machine gun. ) There’s also a daughter, Megan (Emily Marie Palmer), who seemed to feel slighted when LeMay declined to kill her, thinking she was too meek to pose a threat.

This is the sort of western in which most of the characters are covered in authenticity-guaranteeing dirt, dried blood and food stains, so as to signify the poor hygiene conditions of the period. Grotty mise en scene in westerns like this goes back a long way, at least as far as McCabe & Mrs Miller (1971), and got a big boost from the TV series Deadwood and arthouse westerns such as The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford. The latter is clearly a touchstone for the moody, atmospheric soundtrack by Phil Mossman, once of LCD Soundsystem.

Mossman’s score and the filtered, painterly cinematography by David Gallego are by some distance the film’s most interesting features; the rest of the drama is in fact a slog, full of ponderous long takes and somewhat tinny dialogue. Weirdly, the cast seems stocked by performers who were once quite famous and seemed to have lapsed into lesser things, such as the aforementioned Worthington (Avatar), Jane (TV’s Hung) and Heather Graham (Boogie Nights, The Spy Who Shagged Me), here playing a saloon sex worker with deep connections to several of the characters.

The Last Son is released on 8 August on digital platforms in the UK, and is out now in Australia.

Neighbors reveals why Kylie & Jason had limited dialogue in finale

EXCLUSIVE:

After the much-lauded neighbors Finale last week, there’s been quite a bit of discussion around Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan having next to no dialogue in their scenes.

This contrasted considerably to the outpouring for Guy Pearce who featured in a major finale storyline, while press have bizarrely speculated whether their ‘silence’ was due to everything from being paid by the word…to being unable to remember lines. Harsh.

Executive Producer Jason Herbison tells tv tonight the timing of their secret shoot meant it stood apart from finale storylines.

“Our discussions with Jason (Donovan) and Kylie were always about making a small appearance. They didn’t want to overshadow the current cast or make the finale about them. We also filmed their scenes before I’d written the episode, so whatever we filmed had to fit in with that. I hate to see Kylie coping with any criticism – she was nothing short of amazing on the day,” he said.

There have also been some reports stating that sets are being demolished on the Nunawading site.

This is incorrect.

“We haven’t made any decisions about the sets and nothing has been demolished,” Herbison continued.

“We are in the fortunate position of having the Nunawading studios for several more months and we will be utilizing the site for other productions, including Riptide, which is currently being filmed. This gives us plenty of time to make provisions.”

Riptide is in production by Fremantle for 10 / Channel 5.

The billion-dollar TV war between House of the Dragon, The Rings of Power, The Sandman and Andor

An epic battle is about to be waged and it’s not between warring houses or mythical creatures.

It’s the fight between mega TV franchises, and it’s going to mean a very exhausting few months for audiences who are being asked to deeply invest in not one but four huge genre series, which between them have cost something in the region of a billion dollars.

The main event is the showdown between a game of Thrones prequel, House of the Dragongo to Lord of the Rings prequel, The Rings of Power.

And if you think the media are hyping up this TV war, consider this: at this time last year, Amazon announced it would premiere The Rings of Power on September 2, 2022. It gave everyone 13 months’ notice. Then HBO swooped in and picked August 21 as the date for House of the Dragonas though spoiling for a fight.

The two shows will air their finals in the same week. That’s a deliberate choice – and not everyone may emerge victorious. It’s going to be a sh**fight.

It’s like if Marvel and Warner Bros decided to release an Avengers and Justice League movie on the same day.

Both shows are gambling huge money on the pulling power of two established brands with rusted-on fans. But will audiences commit to two very demanding, complex fantasy shows?

Or will fans decide they prefer elves over dragons, or scheming royals over the rise of Sauron, and reserve the other little time they have every week for something entirely different, maybe a workplace comedy? Each series is wooing the same pool of fans.

The fact they both happen to be high fantasy shows would’ve been unthinkable 25 years ago, when the genre was considered a nerds-only niche.

And yet the biggest cultural flashpoints in this relatively young century have been fantasy ones. Harry Potter is a juggernaut of books, movies, theme parks, merchandise and stage shows. game of Thrones has dominated the TV zeitgeist in a way that nothing else has to the same degree of obsession, including The Sopranos and breaking bad.

Part of that is because game of Thrones came along at a time of increased online pop cultural discourse, when TV recaps and Reddit were on the rise, which fueled the level of fervor around the show. The series spawned an online industry.

But it’s also because fantasy epics are now mainstream and every studio and streamer wants one, or two or three or four or five. And they’re willing to pay for it.

The Rings of Power has the honor of being the most expensive TV series ever made. In addition to the $US250 million Amazon paid for the rights to JRR Tolkien’s Second Age, the production budget was reportedly $US465 million. At eight episodes, that’s $US58 million per episode.

Keep in mind that The Rings of Power doesn’t have any big name actors who would be commanding large paycheques, so that money is going almost entirely into the production, splashing big on the world-building.

When that first trailer dropped during Comic-Con, you couldn’t argue that it didn’t at least look spectacular.

House of the Dragonwhich will stream in Australia on Binge and Foxtel*, is comparatively paltry, coming in between $US150 million to $US200 million for the 10-episode season, which equates to under $US20 million per episode.

Fantasy shows don’t come cheap, especially when there are 17 dragons involved.

In the middle of all this are two scrappier though no less ambitious contenders in the wings, The Sandmana long-awaited adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s legendary comics, and Andorto Star Wars streaming series.

Such is the insanely timed state of things that a Star Wars TV show is not even the second most anticipated upcoming streaming series.

Which is probably why this morning Disney blinked, saw the unhinged landscape and went, “Yeah, nah, we don’t want in on that,” and pushed Andor‘s release by three weeks into late September. Wise choice.

disney would have done Andor no favors if it had kept its original August 31 premiere date, sandwiched between House of the Dragon and The Rings of Power. It’s not high fantasy but sci-fi is a very close genre cousin.

By moving it to September 21, Andor will drop three episodes at once and it’ll have a bit of clear air. Disney will be hoping that fans will have made their House of the Dragon and The Rings of Power choices and settled in, ready to consider a third option.

And Netflix also has a horse in the race, The Sandmanwhich is releasing on August 5. Netflix would be hoping that The Sandman is releasing early enough to avoid the main fray.

The Sandman is a high-stakes story about Dream, the being responsible for our subconscious state, who is captured and held captive for a century, unleashing chaos across the realms.

It’s not the most accessible narrative and the title has been in various stages of production since the 1990s, having landed across the desks of several filmmakers and onscreen talent, including Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Roger Avary and Terry Gilliam.

It’s only now, after the runaway commercial successes of Jackson’s Lord of the Rings trilogies and the original game of Thrones series that TV executives even have the confidence to greenlight and fund a show based on a relatively esoteric comic series. The Sandman reportedly cost $US165 million to make.

Decision-makers have witnessed the appetite for genre art and they want to tap into that audience desire by throwing lots and lots of money behind these works.

Everyone is trying to find the next game of Thronesincluding game of Thrones. HBO is feverishly hoping House of the Dragon will be able to recapture the same obsessive fandom as the original series.

of course, game of Thrones only happened because of Jackson’s Lord of the Rings.

Like Jaime and Cersei, it’s all very incestuous. Also like Jaime and Cersei, everyone is about to head into battle. Wonder whose head is going to be crushed by a caving ceiling.

The Sandman is on Netflix from August 5, House of the Dragon is on Binge and Foxtel from August 21, The Rings of Power is on Amazon Prime Video from September 2 and Andor is on Disney+ from September 21.

*Binge and Foxtel are majority owned by News Corp, publisher of this website

BTS may be among K-pop stars to serve shorter military service under South Korean law change

South Korea is debating shortening mandatory military service for K-pop stars such as BTS from about two years to three weeks.

The issue is coming sharply into focus due to the oldest member of the band, Jin, turning 30 next year.

Under a 2019 revision of the law, globally recognized K-pop stars were allowed to put off their service until they were 30.

Military service is hugely controversial in South Korea where all able-bodied men aged between 18 and 28 must fulfill their duties as part of efforts to defend their country against nuclear-armed North Korea.

Over the years, some exemptions have become available to people such as Olympics and Asian Games medal winners, classical musicians and dancers who win top prizes at certain competitions, allowing them to either put off service or do it for a shorter time.

Parliament is now debating a bill that would shorten military service for K-pop stars.

Defense Minister Lee Jong-sup, speaking at a parliamentary session, said that by allowing BTS to continue performing, the military could serve national interests without affecting the already shrinking pool of personnel resources due to low birth rates.

BTS’s management, Big Hit, did not respond to a request for comment.

“Even if they join the military, there would be a way to give them a chance to practice and perform together if there are scheduled concerts abroad,” Mr Lee said.

“As many people highly value [artists serving] in the military, that may help increase their popularity even more.”

The seven-member band announced in June a break from group musical activities to pursue solo projects, saying they were exhausted.

In April, a Big Hit official said some members were having a “hard time” because of uncertainties over the debate in parliament, calling for a decision.

Since their 2013 debut, BTS have become a worldwide sensation with their upbeat hits and social campaigns aimed at empowering youth.

BTS became the first Asian band to win artist of the year at the American Music Awards last year, and they met US President Joe Biden at the White House in May to discuss hate crimes targeting Asians.

A South Korean think tank estimated in 2018 that BTS would bring an economic benefit totaling 56 trillion won ($61 billion) between 2014 and 2023.

4 expert lipstick tips you need to follow in your 40s.

Question: Do you know what the most aging part of our faces is? Go on, take a guess!

No, not the eyes. Not the forehead, either.

Surprising, right?

While the upper section of the face tends to get a whole load of attention, the aging process is actually most apparent in the lower part of our faces. Meaning? We cop it all around the lips and the lower third of our face.

And while it’s a normal thing that happens to (literally) all of us, it can make lipstick very tricky.

Your lips are thinner. They might be drier, with more lines getting around, and way more room for error.

The good news? There are some really easy tweaks you can make.

In part three of this series, Mia Freedman sits down with renowned makeup artist Rae Morris for a masterclass in makeup for mature skin.

Exclusive to Mamamia subscribers, Rae teaches us how to perfect your lipstick application (plus, what to avoid), along with a few sneaky tips on why you shouldn’t use a face powder.

So, grab your favorite lip color and let’s get into it.

1. Assess your lips.

As we get older, our mouths tend to droop down at the corners – and more often than not, this means that wearing lipstick can age our faces even more.

While this is a completely natural part of aging, if it’s something that’s bothering you, there are some small changes you can make – starting with the placement of your lip product.

Rae suggests stepping in front of a mirror and having a proper look at your lips, and figuring out what you want to highlight with lipstick – as well as what you want to leave out.

As she tells Mia, “You want to keep your lips closed when you’re looking into the mirror to assess your lips.”

“Now, most of us, when we close, have these creases that continue out past your lip.”

The golden rule is to keep your lipstick away from these outer creases – because this will only drag the corner of your mouth down.

If you want to give yourself a guide, Rae suggests simply using your pinkie fingers to cover the outer corners of your lips.

“Andor” Series Going Practical & Political

Andor Series Going Practical Political
lucasfilm

One of the most defining traits of the recent “Star Wars” series have been their extensive use of StageCraft, the ultra-HD ‘Volume’ video-wall technology that offers in-camera effects and immersive digital environments.

“The Mandalorian,” “The Book Of Boba Fett” and “Obi-Wan Kenobi” all utilized the technology heavily for a bunch of their sequences. The upcoming “Rogue One” prequel series “Andor” will not.

In fact, series creator and showrunner Tony Gilroy has surprisingly revealed to Empire the show didn’t touch it: “Yep, we’re old-school. We didn’t use StageCraft at all.”

This resulted in the building of massive sets at Pinewood along with plenty of location shooting with practical elements in an effort to capture a gritty texture in a dark and sinister time in the “Star Wars” universe.

On the one hand the actors loved some of it, star Diego Luna says: “As an actor, it’s beautiful. Everything is mechanical. You’re interacting with real stuff.” However, there were downsides, such as some Scottish locations that required hours of effort to reach setup certain shots.

One thing they did love, was the darker and more mature storytelling the show aims to offer, with Gilroy saying: “The freedom on this show was unprecedented. I’ve never had this level of trust, even with pictures I had final cut on.”

The show also isn’t afraid to get political. Gilroy says: “Sci-fi has always been an interesting way to talk about real issues. I didn’t come here to do the same old thing. There are refugee aspects to our series; there are political aspects. We have all the food groups.”

Actress Fiona Shaw, who plays Andor’s mother, says: “Tony has written a great, scurrilous [take] on the Trumpian world. Our world is exploding in different places right now, people’s rights are disappearing, and ‘Andor’ reflects that.”

Gilroy added he had “no interest” in “Star Wars” before he signed on for “Rogue One,” and his emotional detachment helped on that as it was a ‘doctoring job’. It also helps here as he says: “I wouldn’t be doing this if it wasn’t something that really interested me. Our goal with the show is ambitious but simple. We want to blow the hardcore ‘Star Wars’ people away. But we also want their husband, neighbor, sister – that person in their life who’s never gotten why they like ‘Star Wars.’ We’re absolutely going for both audiences.”

“Andor” is slated to premiere with three episodes on September 21st.
