“That’s about us Kylie, that’s about you,” Emdur laughed.

“The only line in the book to read out on TV of course I would make it about me,” she said.

“No, no, no, that is about us, it’s about the first time we sat on The Morning Show couch for our audition, and how we looked into each other’s eyes and we just smiled, we laughed, we had fun, and we ‘ve never stopped doing that,” Emdur explained.

“And I wrote this to you in the cover of your book: This show and you are such an important part of all of this.

“All of this, all of these silly little stories over the last 40 years has led to this,” he said, referring to their partnership.

“And I am so grateful for you and this show. And we just clicked and we’ve never unclicked.”

Hearing Emdur’s sweet words, Gillies was overcome with emotion as she said, “aw how can I make fun of that now because that was really nice!”

“Well it’s true, it’s true,” Emdur said.

‘Most fulfilling chapter of my life’

“I mean, all this stuff it’s all about me growing up and me as a kid.”

“This was about growing up and nostalgia and getting to a certain point in my life, and that point was 15 to 20 years ago and that’s when this started.”

Emdur said that his time on The Morning Show has been “the best and most fulfilling chapter of my life and work life and our partnership started and that’s very special”.

Gillies responded, “Aw that’s so nice, that’s gorgeous.

“When you started off with the words ‘couch and audition’ I was wondering where you were going with that. Glad it turned out really nice.”

“But you got the job, so well done,” Emdur joked.

“That’s all that counts,” Gillies added.

Beauty and the Geek star Aimee Woolley posts revenge photo

Looking back at awkward teenage photos, most of us will have changed dramatically – both physically and mentally – since high school.

Many of us got through that time the best we could, all while feeling insecure about our changing bodies as we tried to navigate the awkward teenage years.

High school was hard enough by itself, but add in cruel bullies and the experience can turn into a nightmare.

Looking at blonde “beauty” Aimee Woolley from reality television show Beauty and the Geekyou’d likely assume her time at school was a breeze.

But the 23-year-old nurse opened up to her followers by posting a picture on TikTok of her as a teenager in her high school uniform, with dark brown hair.

The video began with a voiceover stating “remember when you called me ugly?”, suggesting she was bullied at school.

She then continued the video with a montage of her now as a blonde adult on the reality TV show, with a voiceover stating “watch my glow up b**ch.”

Fans of Aimee applauded her openness and loved her “glow up revenge” on her high school bullies.

“You were gorgeous in both, some people suck!” one person commented.

Yas Queen! You look beautiful!”

“You were actually my #1 on the beauty and the geek” another said.

“Broke my heart when you were eliminated. ️”

Aimee was a contestant on this year’s Beauty and the Geek before being eliminated on episode 7 with her “geek” Jayden.

“I’m going to miss Jayden so much,” a tearful Aimee said.

“It’s so refreshing that they are still guys out there that are really nice.”

Beauty and the Geek first launched in Australia in 2009, and is based on the US version of the show that was created in 2005 by actor Ashton Kutcher.

The premise of the show is to pair a “beauty” – typically an attractive woman who is portrayed to lack intellect – with a “geek” – usually a man who is not conventionally attractive and may lack social skills but is very intelligent.

The couple who can get through to the end after competing different challenges will win the grand prize of $100,000.

Johnny Depp’s Lawyers Accused Amber Heard Of Editing Her Bruises, But Unsealed Documents See The Pirates Actor Accused Of The Same

Despite the defamation verdict coming in months ago, the conversation surrounding Johnny Depp and Amber Heard’s long legal battle hasn’t shown any signs of slowing down. This is partly because of both parties filing new appeals, but also because of unsealed court documents that have come to light this week. And while Depp’s lawyers have accused Heard of editing photos of her bruisesthese new docs see the Pirates actor accused of the same thing.

During their long legal battle, Johnny Depp’s team of lawyers attempted to discredit Amber Heard and her allegations of abuse. One of the ways this was done was by questioning the validity of photos the Aquaman actress took of her face while bruised, claiming it was actually done through makeup and/or editing. But the tables are turning thanks to unsealed documents examined by The Daily Beast (via Insider) that claim that Depp might have edited images of himself that were submitted into evidence.

Batgirl directors respond to surprise axing of film: ‘We still can’t believe it’ | Warner Bros

Directing duo Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah have responded to the cancellation of their Batgirl film, writing that they are “saddened and shocked” by the news.

The Belgian film-makers, best known for 2020’s Bad Boys for Life and episodes of Ms Marvel, shared a statement on Instagram after Tuesday’s news that Warner Bros Discovery would not be releasing the DC Comics adventure that was nearing the end of post-production.

“We are saddened and shocked by the news,” the duo wrote. “We still can’t believe it. As directors, it is critical that our work be shown to audiences, and while the film was far from finished, we wish that fans all over the world would have had the opportunity to see and embrace the final film themselves. Maybe one day they will Insha’Allah.”

The pair went on to pay tribute to an “amazing cast and crew” who “did a tremendous job and worked so hard to bring Batgirl to life.” The film features the In the Heights star Leslie Grace as Batgirl with Brendan Fraser, JK Simmons, Rebecca Front and Michael Keaton returning as Batman.

“In any case, as huge fans of Batman since we were little kids, it was a privilege and an honor to have been a part of the DCEU, even if it was for a brief moment,” the finished statement. “Batgirl For Life.”

The $90m-budget film, which was intended to premiere on US streaming service HBO Max, had finished shooting and was being test screened. But it was revealed that Warner Bros Discovery would not be releasing it on any platform.

Despite rumors that the decision was based on the quality of the film, Variety has claimed that sources put the decision down to a tax incentive, “seen internally as the most financially sound way to recover the costs”.

The news comes after WarnerMedia officially merged with Discovery in April and CEO David Zaslav took the reins. It’s reported that Discovery took on about $43bn of debt during the merger. Zaslav vowed to cut approximately $3bn in costs which saw the proposed DC movie Wonder Twins canceled in May.

This week also saw the animated sequel Scoob! Holiday Haunt shelved. Co-writer Paul Dini tweeted: “Why cancel a 95% finished holiday movie this close to Fall, when you’re guaranteed kids watching it from right after Halloween until at least New Years? Makes no business sense.”

“The decision to not release Batgirl reflects our leadership’s strategic shift as it relates to the DC universe and HBO Max,” an official statement read. “Leslie Grace is an incredibly talented actor and this decision is not a reflection of her performance. We are incredibly grateful to the film-makers of Batgirl and Scoob! Holiday Haunt and their respective casts and we hope to collaborate with everyone again in the near future.”

Today saw reports that six HBO Max originals had been removed from the service and offered as paid rentals elsewhere, including the Melissa McCarthy comedy Superintelligence, Robert Zemickis’s remake of The Witches and Anne Hathaway caper Locked Down. August also sees the entire Harry Potter franchise leave the service and head to NBC’s Peacock.

This Thursday sees Warner Bros Discovery report its second-quarter results. Unlike Netflix, HBO Max started the year well with first-quarter results showing 12.8 million global subscriber year-over-year, up 3m from the prior quarter.

Last month, Zaslav spoke to Variety and re-stated his desire to combine HBO Max and Discovery+ into one streaming platform. “We’ll talk about how we’re going to do it, and when, soon,” he said.

Juniper benefits from Charlotte Rampling’s layered performance as a grandmother grappling with mortality

Juniper is a drama with black comic edges about a fragmented family, and the unexpectedly life-affirming influence of its particularly tetchy matriarch. In the lead role is Charlotte Rampling, an actor blessed with an epically scornful side eye capable of withering a vase of flowers from across a room.

The film relies in no small degree on Rampling’s ability to deliver intensity from small gestures, because for most of the time she’s nearly immobile, rendered almost inert by a broken leg and a mysterious underlying health condition, while her temper is inflamed by copious amounts of gin served to her in large glass jugs.

The first feature from New Zealand writer-director Matthew J Saville (not to be confused with the Australian filmmaker Matt Saville), Juniper plays on the conventions of movies about families thrust together in trying circumstances, who learn to get over their differences only after some excruciating trial and error.

A glum-looking woman with gray hair wearing a gray silk shirt sits in an ornate chair
Saville and Rampling worked on revising the script for three days after their first meeting in Paris. Two weeks later, Rampling officially accepted the role.(Supplied: Transmission)

In particular, it’s about a cross-generational connection between Ruth and her grandson Sam (George Ferrier), a suicidal teen who attends a nearby private school and has never recovered from the death of his mother.

Sam’s athletic good looks and crown of golden hair give off the aura of a confident private-school jock, but this is a film where appearances deceive, and Sam is troubled in his privilege — while Ruth, in turn, is the unlikely figure to pull him out of his malaise.

Set in the 90s, the film unfolds in a grand, if unkempt house somewhere green and leafy in New Zealand. This family is wealthy, clearly, and when Ruth arrives from her home de ella in England after a considerable absence and in failing health, it initially appears like she might be the direct link to a moneyed bloodline in the Old Country.

Close up of young man with shaggy blond hair and a bleeding brow after playing football
“Juniper is a very personal story based on my experiences as a teenager,” Saville writes in his director’s statement.(Supplied: Transmission)

Ruth has an unconventional past, as a war correspondent who once traveled the globe witnessing some of the best and worst of humanity. Ella’s experience scarred her, we will learn, but it also earned her valuable wisdom.

Her drinking, as well as her bullying, seem to be a manifestation of some sort of PTSD, long left simmering and unaddressed. Her grandson de ella, who is left to help look after her while his father de ella (an excellent but mostly off-screen Marton Csokas) is called away to England, becomes the chief target of her rancour de ella.

The two are destined to become unlikely friends, but it takes time. As often occurs in scripts about grumpy old people and their influence on teenagers with their lives ahead of them, Ruth’s abrasiveness serves a purpose, even if it’s not initially clear.

Hal Ashby’s 1971 absurdist black comedy Harold and Maude dealt with some of these cross-generational currents—including teen depression—with a little more imagination and less predictability. It would have been nice if Saville’s film didn’t conform quite so obediently to the redemptive notes of its final act.

Two young men look on excitedly as they sit beside an old woman in a wheelchair who aims a gun into the air
The role of Ruth was inspired by Saville’s grandmother, Moccy, who he described in The Spinoff as an “intelligent, funny, and at times brutal” woman.(Supplied: Transmission)

But Rampling makes it worth watching, even if you sense where it’s all heading. Ella’s role recalls her performance in another predominantly housebound film, Francois Ozon’s 2003 mystery Swimming Pool, where she played an irritable British author trying to write her next novel, clashing with the young, feisty daughter of her French publisher.

Saville doesn’t opt for any of that film’s dreamy Hitchcockian intrigue, but he does exploit the house’s rambling grandness, with its shadowy rooms and thresholds that offer views onto the verdant, slightly Gothic New Zealand countryside.

“Star Wars: Andor” To End With S2

Star Wars Andor To End With S2
lucasfilm

“Star Wars: Andor” showrunner Tony Gilroy was on hand at Disney’s Television Critics Association panel today to confirm something already expected – that the series will run for two seasons only.

He confirms the final scenes of the last episode of the second season will directly segue into the first scenes of the “Rogue One” film.

The first season’s twelve episodes will cover the span of a year in the Star Wars Universe, with the second season seeing four blocks of three episodes each and each of the blocks will span a year in the Star Wars Universe.

Discussing that structure, he says: “We really get to take the formative forging of Cassian Andor in the first 12 episodes and then we get to take that organism that we’ve built up and run it through the next four years in a really exciting narrative fashion.”

Talking about the production’s current status, he says the first season is essentially complete with the final mix for the season finale being finished up this week. Shooting on the second season begins in November.

“Star Wars: Andor” will debut September 21st on Disney+ with three episodes.
