Woman says she must shave hair off after bad extensions left her in pain

It’s the bad hair day that went from bad to worse for Kerryn Henry.

Her new hair extensions left her embarrassed and in so much pain she had to cut them out – and now she wants her money back.

The grandmother was forced to cut most of the extensions off her head after a week of hell – because the hairdresser who put them in claimed she did nothing wrong.

“I have no hair here,” she explained, pointing to her head.

“I have patches all in here and sores and I have no hair here.”

She wanted to feel good post break up, so decided to get a new ‘do’.

The grandmother bought keratin bond hair extensions online and took them to Emily Wallace at LUXX Hair & Beauty Studio in Newcastle, New South Wales, to get them put in.

Henry says Wallace got another girl to help, and she became worried.

“The whole time they were doing it, I kept telling them they were hurting me ’cause they were doing them so close to my root,” she said.

“Emily’s response was, ‘oh yeah’, it’ll be sore but it’ll be fine.”

Henry says she paid $695 for her color and the installation of the extensions, and went home with a throbbing headache.

“That night I was in so much pain I ended up taking Panadol, and Nurofen, and then I ended up taking Panadeine Forte because the pain was so bad,” she said.

After getting hardly any sleep, Henry reached out to Wallace for help.

“She just said, ‘it’ll be ok and you know to give it a couple of days’,” she said.

Henry went back to the salon to have them fixed a few days later.

“All she did was pick up my hair and said, ‘they’re fine, there’s nothing wrong with them,” she said.

“I said, ‘I actually have sores in the back of my head’.

“She said. ‘no, that’s fine’.

“She made me sign a waiver.”

That Saturday, Henry messaged her again and said she wanted them removed that day because they were so painful.

She said Wallace told her she was fully booked.

So Henry enlisted the help of Hair Extension Specialist Jessie White.

White said that in her opinion, the extensions had been applied incorrectly.

“When she sat down and even moved her hair and pulled her hair apart and she said ‘ow’ and she was in pain. I thought: ‘this must be bad’,” White said.

“Definitely it’s the wrong application. They were way too close to the scalp so they were pretty much touching the scalp, which is a no-no.

“They were very, very tight and they had been overheated so they had melted all through her hair,” she said.

White said she spent two and a half hours trying to get some of them out.

“There were sores, hair being ripped out, it was terrible,” she said.

Henry was so desperate to be free from the pain, she cut the rest of the extensions out the next day, leaving her with what she said was “atrocious” hair which she says she’s probably going to have to shave off.

Wallace also told Henry the extensions were not keratin, they were mostly plastic.

White disagrees and did a test to show the extensions weren’t the problem.

“When you light on fire a piece of synthetic hair, normally it just shrivels up like a piece of plastic would do if it’s been melted,” she said.

“100 per cent human hair will just singe, there will be nothing left,” White said.

When A Current Affair ignited one of Kerryn’s hair extensions, it completely burned, showing it was real hair.

Henry said firstly, she wants her money back, and she also wants the hairdresser to say sorry.

“I want an apology. And I want her to admit that she’s wrong,” she said.

A Current Affair approached hairdresser Emily Wallace with the hair and asked her what happened.

Wallace offered Henry $100 back in what she claims is a kind gesture. The grandmother is still waiting for her apology for her.

Meghan’s bond with famous friend under spotlight after star mentioned Duchess and Harry | Royal | News

Tennis legend Serena Williams mentioned the Duchess in a new video in which she broke down her most famous 22 looks. One of the outfits the 23-time Grand Slams champion commented on was the pink ensemble she donned on May 19 2018 to attend the wedding of Meghan and Prince Harry at St George’s Chapel in Windsor.

Speaking about her style for the day in a video for Vogue, the tennis star called the Duchess her “friend.”

She said: “I love this image, this is at the Royal Wedding, when my friend Meghan married Harry.

“Again another Versace look, and my jewels were from Bulgari, which were just stunning, and I have a fascinator on.

“But what’s so iconic about this is that I was like ‘Royal Wedding? I am definitely wearing braids’.

“So all night, it was two or three girls braiding my hair and I was so tired, I was like I am going to sleep.

“So I lied down and they just kept braiding until the morning, and they finally finished.

“It was a very long process but it was so worth it.”

Sharing this clip on Twitter, Writer Chris Spargo wrote: “Serena Williams confirms she is in fact friends with Meghan Markle.”

READ MORE: Meghan Markle’s close friend shares update on Archie and Lilibet

In a second tweet, he added: “Multiple sources told me back in 2017 that Meghan Markle asked her famous friends to downplay their friendship in interviews, which would explain Serena Williams’ response to Vanity Fair.

“Williams would later host Markle’s baby shower, so there is no denying the two were close.”

Mr Spargo’s tweets appear to be referring to claims appeared in Tom Bower’s latest book, titled Revenge: Meghan, Harry and the War Between the Windsors, regarding the real bond between Williams and the Duchess.

Mr Bower reported in his blistering biography of Meghan how Vanity Fair writer Sam Kashner interviewed the Duchess for the magazine’s September issue in 2017.

DON’T MISS

After speaking with the writer in her house in Toronto, Meghan, Mr Bower claimed, gave him a list of her friends to contact for his piece, which included the tennis star.

However, Mr Bower claimed, upon being contacted by Mr Kashner Williams denied she was a friend of the Duchess.

Mr Bower wrote in his book: “Over the next few days he called those who Meghan had recommended as her friends.

“Serena Williams denied she was Meghan’s friend but just an acquaintance.

“She gave him an enigmatic quote: ‘You’ve got to be who you are, Meghan. You can’t hide’.”

However, Williams had publicly called Meghan a “friend” prior to 2017.

In a tweet dating back to August 23 2014, the tennis star shared a link to The Tig – Meghan’s now-defunct lifestyle blog – adding: “Check out my article with my friend @meghanmarkle.”

Retweeting this message, Twitter user @kaindeb replied to Mr Spargo’s tweet adding: “Serena Williams was tweeting about her friend Meghan in 2014 before she met Harry.”

On August 8 2015, the tennis star also tweeted a video, now unavailable, adding: “@meghanmarkle so proud of you.”

Williams, who is believed to have co-hosted Meghan’s baby shower in New York in February 2019, also tweeted about the Duchess in a positive light after the Royal Wedding.

Upon the release supported by Meghan of the cookbook Together, which raised more than £500,000 for the Hubb Community Kitchen, Williams tweeted: “I used to call you Meghan (and I still do) but dear Duchess of Sussex your first project ‘Together’ a cookbook bringing women of all cultures together.

“I could not be more excited about it and proud of you.

“It’s beautiful – diversity, inclusivity, coming together in grief or joy.”

Furiosa producers have been contacted for comment.

The setback echoes Miller’s infamous shoot for Mad Max: Fury Road back in 2012 which was plagued by a number of costly delays and production issues.

The shoot initially began in Namibia but encountered some public relations hiccups after the Namibian Conservation Coast and Management Project accused the producers of damaging a number of plant and animal species in a leaked draft.

The Block star Sharon Johal smokes after fellow contestant Jenny nabs tradie

A slab of Vodka Cruisers has caused chaos on The Block, after one team managed to bribe a tradesman to get ahead on bathroom week.

Faced with the fear of not finishing on time, glamorous former neighbors actress Sharon, from House 3, was furious to hear her appointment for underfloor heating installation was bumped by another contestant.

It turns out it was nabbed by House 4’s apprentice Chippy Jenny, who used the age-old bribery tactic to coax the installers into attending their house first.

Moaning about the sneaky move to fellow contestant Rachel, Sharon was heard calling the unknown culprit “some d*ckheads” while waiting for a coffee at McCafe.

“Have you guys got your underfloor heating booked in?” Rachel had asked.

“Ours was supposed to be first but some d*ckheads cut the line and now we’re like second or third… D*ckheads as in our friends on the show, other contestants,” Sharon fumed.

“I don’t know how they do that, I called every day and I’m like ‘Are you sure we’re first? Are you sure we’re first’ … And all of a sudden they’re at someone else’s house,” she added, concluding that while she “loves everybody” on the show “there was a process in order”.

Elsewhere, Jenny was busy bragging about her one-up on the other teams.

“Last night I called the underfloor heating guy and just said ‘what can I do for you so you can come earlier?’ and he said ‘you can buy me some cruisers’,” she laughed as the camera panned over a slab of the popular vodka drink.

While Sharon wasn’t impressed by the dirty gameplay, House 1’s Sarah-Jane gave Jenny credit for the move.

“Jenny is good. She bribed them, she bribed them with a slab of cruisers to come first at 6 o’clock,” the mother-of-one told producers.

“I respect the hustle… I was like ‘touche b*tch, touche’… I’ll be on the cruisers next week,” she said.

It comes as the teams battle it out for the biggest prize ever on The Blockwith the bathroom week winner to be awarded a bonus $250,000 kitchen upgrade on top of the $10,000 cash.

The rooms and winners will be revealed on Sunday night’s episode, airing from 7.30pm on Channel 9.

Luxury means different things to different people, but in restaurant circles it’s usually high-status items such as caviar, lobster and truffles that earn the tag.

I’m not so sure. Sometimes, it’s about the give of a cushioned banquette, the patina of the table, the weight of a linen napkin on your knee, the tinkle of glass on the martini trolley. The way a considered environment can add to your sense of wellbeing.

At Luke’s Kitchen, a casual name for quite an opulent restaurant that runs alongside the splendid art deco lobby of the Kimpton Margot hotel, the tables for four and six are luxuriously spacious, and the lighting could give a masterclass in setting a mood while still allowing you to read a menu.

Plus, you can order 30 grams of oscietra caviar with sour cream and potato gaufrette for $250. Champagne? Call for the champagne cart. Ditto, the caviar and vodka trolley. If you want to shave truffles all over your food, just add $20 to your bill for every five grams.

Luke Mangan has done it all, from cookbooks to cruise restaurants and airlines, but he’s always created environments in which to have a good time. Now, it’s a grand 1930s hotel restaurant, pitched for business lunches and glitzy dinners, with bottomless brunches on Saturdays.

His talents – and those of head chef and long-time collaborator MJ Olguera, who started with Mangan at Bistro Lulu in Paddington in 2004, seem well-suited to the grand hotel life.

Pork terrine with grilled sourdough.

Here, the luxuries are played on shuffle across the broad menu with Mangan’s own modern Australian hits. Skull Island prawns with nam jim and coconut mix it with Peking duck pancakes with hoisin sauce, spiced lamb rump, and Riverina grass-fed rib-eye for two to share.

The garlic bread ($8) is kerfuffle-worthy, being not “garlic bread” but a laminated cronut of caramelized onion jam, curry-spiced garlic butter and Heidi gruyere cheese; sweet, savory, crisp, soft. For a moment, I wonder what it would be like with 20 grams of truffle shaved on top, but the madness quickly passes.

Prawn toast ($18) is difficult to resist, the bread golden and crisp, the sweet prawn mousse jade-green with herbs, a little corn salsa on top for freshness.

Garlic bread with curry butter, onion and garlic.

It’s Mangan, so there are classics harking back to his days as an eager commis in the kitchen of England’s three Michelin-starred Waterside Inn. Proper food, a bit Frenchy. A pork terrine ($29) is gutsy and satisfying, melting pig’s head, neck and belly into a smooth unit, ready to smash onto grill-marked sourdough.

Olguera teams a lacquered duck for two ($180) with crunchy little salt-and-pepper rice cakes and a coconut curry sauce; a nice move. Roast spatchcock ($41) is jointed and sent out with a citrusy salad of fennel, currants and mandarin on a puddle of fennel puree. I feel I’ve had this before, years ago; yet it’s right for now.

The comfort-food drum beats strongest with slow-cooked beef cheeks in a rich red wine sauce ($46), laced with chickpeas and bolstered by Mangan’s pillowy, creamy pomme puree. A spicy, fleshy 2020 Bondar Junto GSM from McLaren Vale ($83) virtually jumps straight in.

Prawn toast.

Dessert can go luxe – rum baba – but a pretty little meringue roulade ($21) balanced with rich lemon curd is a hit. More so, for me, than the enduring licorice parfait that has been the chef’s signature since 1995. Nice, but I think we can all move on now.

Overall, it’s the mix of old-school glamor and the free-flowing, no-rules approach to hospitality that makes Luke’s Kitchen of interest; a fresh but familiar face in a part of the city that’s getting more and more attention.

It’s not so much the tableside trolleys and truffles that deliver the luxury, although they do add energy and a bit of fun. It’s more about the craft and the comfort that keeps their little wheels turning; that’s the real luxury here.

Olivia Newton-John daughter Chloe Lattanzi: Grease star made pact with God

Olivia Newton-John once said she was “looking forward to” death because of previous interactions with “spirits”.

The comments came in a resurfaced 2021 podcast interview where she also said she had made a pact with God to save her daughter Chloe Lattanzi before she was born after the grease star suffered complications during her pregnancy.

The entertainment legend died on Monday at her ranch in California following an extraordinary three-decade-long battle with breast cancer which had seen her repeatedly triumphing over the disease only for it to later reappear once more.

In February last year, Newton-John appeared on Sarah Grynberg’s A Life of Greatness podcast.

The Xanadu actor explained that she did not fear passing on during her 30-year cancer battle because she believed there was something beyond the world of the living, reported the new york post.

“We all know we’re going to die, but I think we spend our lives in denial. It’s extremely personal, so it’s hard to put into words.

“I feel that we are all one thing, and I’ve had experiences with spirits and spirit life. I believe there is something that happens.”

She added: “I hope the energies of the people you love will be there. … I think all the love will be there. I’m sort of looking forward to that—not now, but when it happens.

“It’s almost like we are parts of the same computer and we go back to the main battery.”

Pact with God

On the same podcast she also talked about how she was so worried about her pregnancy with daughter Chloe, now 36, that she told God she would make a deal to keep her yet to be born baby safe.

“I was close to losing her,” she told Grynberg.

“I went to bed and asked God to save her and if he did, I would say the Lord’s Prayer every night for the rest of my life and so I have.”

In the family statement, her husband John Easterling said Newton-John “passed away peacefully” early on Monday morning US time surrounded by family and friends.

“Olivia has been a symbol of triumphs and hope for over 30 years sharing her journey with breast cancer. Her healing inspiration and pioneering experience with plant medicine continues with the Olivia Newton-John Foundation Fund, dedicated to researching plant medicine and cancer, ”her statement she read.

John Travolta’s touching tribute

In a post to Instagram, John Travolta praised Newton-John.

“My dearest Olivia, you made all of our lives so much better. Your impact was incredible. I love you so much,” he wrote.

“We will see you down the road and we will all be together again. Yours from the first moment I saw you and forever! Your Danny, your John!”
