Jennette McCurdy spills details of Ariana Grande feud

Jennette McCurdy says her dislike for Ariana Grande began soon after they started filming their Nickelodeon show when she realized the pop star allegedly got permission to pursue outside opportunities.

“I booked two features during icarly that I had to turn down because the icarly team wouldn’t write me out of episodes to go shoot them,” McCurdy writes in her new memoir, I’m Glad My Mom Diedclaiming producers would stuff Grande’s character in a box so that she could miss filming, Page Six reports.

“Are you kidding me,” McCurdy recalls thinking. “So I have to turn down movies while Ariana’s off whistle-toning at the Billboard Music Awards? F**k. Este.”

the best player actress, 30, admitted that once Grande, 29, was allowed to ditch filming, she snapped.

“I’m pissed about it. I’m pissed at her. Jealous of her. For a few reasons,” she writes. “So now, every time she misses work it feels like a personal attack. … From that moment on I didn’t like her. I couldn’t like her.”

icarly ended its original run in 2012, and Sam & Cat ran just one season from 2013 to 2014.

A rep for Nickelodeon did not return Page Six’s request for comment.

Grande has not publicly responded to the excerpts from McCurdy’s memoir.

the rest of the Zoey 101 alum’s book is filled with heartbreaking anecdotes about her battle with bulimia and her strained relationship with her mother and Nickelodeon.

McCurdy writes that after departing the kids’ entertainment network, she turned down a $300,000 offer that would require her never to speak publicly about her experiences there.

Jennette defends shocking memoir title

McCurdy is also standing by her decision to name her memoir I’m Glad My Mom Died.

“I get that it’s attention-grabbing but it’s also something that I mean sincerely,” she said of the title during an interview on good morning america this week.

She explained that she wasn’t using the title in a “flippant” way and believes that people who have also been abused will understand the point she is trying to convey, Page Six reports.

“While the response might be divided, I really appreciate the positivity that I received from a lot of people,” she said.

“I think that anybody who has experienced parental abuse understands this title and I think anybody who has a sense of humor understands this title.”

McCurdy added that she’s “not so concerned” with the opinions of anybody else, noting that “this book is not for them”.

McCurdy also shared that at times, she still misses her mum, who died in 2013 from cancer. However, she admitted that she would not have written her memoir of her if her mother of her was still alive because she would still have her of her “identity of her dictated by her of her” of her.

“Grief for me toward my mum used to be really complicated. I’d feel angry and confused at why I felt angry that I was grieving her,” McCurdy said.

“I felt like she didn’t deserve my tears and my sadness since she was abusive, but it simplified in a really relieving way and now feels like I’m able to just miss her. I think that is only possible because of the healing that happened through the writing of the book.”

Throughout her tell-all book, McCurdy detailed the abusive behavior her mother allegedly exhibited while she was growing up and during her rise to fame while starring in icarly and the spin-off series, Sam & Cat.

“I start shrinking by the week as Mum and I team up to count our calories every night and plan our meals for the next day. We’re keeping me on a 1000-calorie diet, but I have the smart idea that if I only eat half my food, I’ll only be receiving half the calories, which means that I will be shrinking twice as fast,” McCurdy wrote in the book, ET reported.

“Each Sunday, she weighs me and measures my thighs with a measuring tape. After a few weeks of our routine, she provides me with a stack of diet books that I finish quickly … I weigh myself five times a day.”

McCurdy alleged that when a doctor expressed that she may have had anorexia, her mother denied knowing about any food habits. She also shared that her weight dropped so low that she was using a booster seat in the car at age 14.

The actress also claimed that her mother would bathe her every time she had to shower and conduct “a breast and ‘front butt’ exam,” adding that when she was 16 years old, her mother would even shave her daughter’s legs.

“She says she wants to make sure I don’t have any mysterious lumps or bumps because those could be cancer. I say OK because I definitely don’t want cancer, and since Mum’s had it and all, she would know if I do,” she wrote.

“I usually just try and think of Disneyland when Mum’s doing the exams … By the time the exams are done, a huge wave of relief washes over my whole body and I usually realize that’s the first time I’ve felt my body since the exam started.”

McCurdy wrote that when she started to become famous, her mother began resenting her.

“Fame has put a wedge between Mum and me that I didn’t think was possible. She wanted this. And I wanted her to have it. I wanted her to be happy,” she wrote.

“But now that I have it, I realize that she’s happy and I’m not. Her happiness came at the cost of mine. I feel robbed and exploited. Sometimes I look at her and I just hate her. And then I hate myself for feeling that.”

McCurdy also recalled the time her mother found out she had started dating – but was not yet sexually active. She wrote in her book of her that her mother of her was verbally abusive, calling her a “FILTHY LITTLE LYING WH ** E,” and “nothing more than a little SL * T, a FLOOZY, ALL USED UP”.

Among other abuses, McCurdy claims her mother also lied to her about who her biological father was. She says her eating disorder de ella continued even after her mother de ella died – but she has since sought professional help.

“My mum emotionally, mentally and physically abused me in ways that will forever impact me. She gave me breast and vaginal exams until 17 years old … When I was six years old, she pushed me into a career I didn’t want … She taught me an eating disorder when I was 11 years old – an eating disorder that robbed me of my joy and any amount of free-spiritedness that I had. She never told me my father was not my father,” McCurdy wrote.

“Her death left me with more questions than answers, more pain than healing, and many layers of grief – the initial grief from her passing, then the grief of accepting her abuse and exploitation of me, and finally, the grief that surfaces now when I miss her and start to cry – because I do still miss her and start to cry.”

As well as her toxic relationship with her mother, McCurdy also claims in the book she was offered $300,000 in hush money to not publicly speak about her tenure on Nickelodeon.

Dad sets daughter up with a cute guy at the pub

Single woman, 30, was set up with a ‘hot stranger’ at a pub by her DAD in a saga followed by millions on TikTok – and you won’t believe what happened next

  • An Australian publicist has shared the incredible way she met her now-boyfriend
  • Alice James, from Melbourne, said her dad asked for a cute man’s number for her
  • The 30-year-old and her father were enjoying beers at the pub
  • Her dad amused her attention to the ‘total hottie’ at the bar before talking to him
  • Since then the two went on a number of ‘amazing dates’ before making it official
  • Alice says her dad is her ‘ultimate wingman’ and owes it all to him

A ‘very single’ Australian publicist has shared the moment her ‘ultimate wingman’ dad asked for a cute guy’s number on her behalf at a pub, which led to becoming her now-boyfriend – and thousands are eager to know who he is.

Alice James, from Melbourne, was enjoying her father’s company while sipping on a pint of ale after the opening night of Six The Musical.

The 30-year-old told FEMAIL the two were ‘talking garbage’ before her dad James diverted her attention to the ‘total hottie’ sitting at the bar.

‘I had obviously noticed this stunning gentleman with his mate at the bar as soon as we walked in. Dad said “leave it with me” then jumped off his seat and proceeded to talk to these two guys,’ she recalled.

James struck up a conversation with the young men asking if they ‘go for Collingwood’, then turned to the eligible bachelor asking how old he was and if he was single.

‘Dad then pointed to me saying “well this is my daughter and she is very single”. As the night went on we all kept chatting until the two boys at the bar got up to leave and dad stopped them saying: “Wait! You can’t leave! You haven’t exchanged numbers!”,’ Alice recalled.

In a rush James ran to the bar, grabbed the order pad and made the two write down each other’s digits.

‘The boy was so nervous that he actually handed his number to my dad instead of me – hilarious!’ Alice said.

The following morning Alice sent the man a text saying ‘Sorry about my dad’ with a laughing emoji.

‘I wasn’t sure if he was interested or dad had just forced him to talk to me. But he replied and said it was a treat to meet us both and invited me out to dinner a few nights later,’ she said.

‘After our first date we both just had such a good time, there were a lot of laughs and chemistry and it just felt refreshingly right.’

Since then the two have continued to go on ‘amazing’ dates and both are ‘just so happy’.

A few weeks prior to the pub night Alice had also stopped using dating apps and wanted to take a break because she ‘wasn’t having fun anymore’.

But to her surprise she was able to meet someone in public thanks to her dad.

‘We had both been single for a while with some pretty grim dating history so we feel very lucky to have this connection that we do,’ she said.

Dad James struck up a conversation with the single man and pointed out how Alice is also single. When the man and his friend of him got up to leave James said: 'Wait! You can't leave! You haven't exchanged numbers!'

And now after getting to know each other, the guy from the pub asked Alice to be his girlfriend – and she said yes.

‘I definitely owe it all to dad, the ultimate Wingman and the Maverick to my Goose because there is no way either of us would have made the first move at the pub and how sad that this relationship may never have happened,’ she said.

‘It also made the first meeting of the parents very stress free, because I think he was pretty confident that he already had dad’s tick of approval!’

The two singles started texting and went on a number of 'amazing dates' before he eventually asked Alice to be his girlfriend - and she said yes

Many praised James for his action and being the ‘best wingman ever’.

‘Ummm any chance I can like, borrow your dad?!’ one person wrote in the comments, another added: ‘My dad needs to step up.’

A third added: ‘This is LEGIT the best.. go Daz!’

Married mums have IVF ‘twins’ born four days apart

A couple who announced both partners were expecting babies through IVF have given a glimpse into their family life just weeks after their children were born four days apart.

Aussie couple Laura and Suzie Francis-Mathers both gave birth in July, with Mackenzie Rose and Marlow Lachlan born on July 22 and 26 respectively.

The pair had previously announced they were expecting the children a month apart when taking to Instagram to share their news.

But baby Marlow decided to make his entrance into the world early as he “didn’t want to miss out on the fun”.

Now, as they settle into looking after the two new additions, the pair have taken the time on Laura’s birthday to thank everyone for the support through their journey.

“It’s Laura’s birthday today, which has been really lovely. We’ve had a family day celebrating with our two babies and Laura’s parents and brother, which has been really nice,” Suzie said.

Laura joked she had received a card and presents from their children and she didn’t want to brag but the duo were “pretty advanced”.

“It’s so nice writing Laura a card and not saying, ‘I hope this time next year we have bubbas,’ or, ‘This is our year,’ you know?” Suzie said.

“We’ve actually managed to make it, which feels very lovely.

“Happy birthday Mummy.”

It was the first major update since the announcement of the children’s arrival.

“We’re alive,” the pair joked at the start of the video.

Laura then thanked everyone for their kind messages following the announcement of the children’s births.

“We’re just taking a moment while the bubbas are asleep just over there, we thought it was a good moment to say thank you and check in. It’s been an amazing time,” she said.

Suzie jumped in to reveal the last few weeks since welcoming Mackenzie and Marlow had been a “whirlwind.”

The pair said they had been asked a lot about their birth stories and revealed they would have lots to share in the coming weeks about how it all went, describing the time as “pretty mad”.

“For now, we are just getting through the day-to-day and sleeping when we can but we’re doing pretty well,” Laura said.

The pair said they were proud of what they had achieved in the first few weeks of parenthood.

Earlier this year, the couple shared a video of when they both realized they had fallen pregnant.

After two years, six [IVF] rounds, 10 transfers, two chemical pregnancies and countless injections between us, there are many videos on our camera rolls that don’t look like this,” they wrote in the caption.

“It’s been a ‘journey’ as they say, that’s turned into an adventure we are so excited to be embarking upon.”

The video showed both Laura and Suzie finding out they’re pregnant with squeals of joy, and a few tears.

Steve Martin says he will no longer ‘seek’ acting work, suggests retirement

Hollywood veteran Steve Martin has said he’s “not going to seek” any more acting work, adding, “This is, weirdly, it.”

The 76-year-old US actor, who has been a mainstay in film and television for more than five decades, said retirement is on the cards after he wraps filming on the upcoming third season of his breakout Hulu series, Only Murders In The Building, co-starring Martin Short and Selena Gomez.

In an interview with The Hollywood ReporterMartin suggested it was becoming difficult to stay in the game at the back-end of his career.

“There’s a time in your career when people are dying to see you… Now is the time in my career when I’m the one who’s got to show up,” he said.

Martin added: “When this television show [Only Murders In The Building] is done, I’m not going to seek others. I’m not going to seek other movies. I don’t want to do cameos. This is, weirdly, it.”

Martin, who is nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor (Comedy) at this year’s awards for his work on the series, made his name in showbiz in the ’60s for his writing work on The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hourbefore becoming a host on Saturday night Live.

After retiring from stand-up comedy, Martin successfully transitioned to the big screen in the ’80s, going on to star in hit films including Three Amigos, Planes, Trains And Automobiles, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, LA Story, Father Of The Bride, Pink Panther and Cheaper By The Dozen.

Over the years he’s won five Grammys, an Emmy, and was awarded the Honorary Academy Award in 2013, meaning he only needs to win a Tony to achieve coveted EGOT status (where you have won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony).

Martin retreated from the public eye throughout the 2010s, in which he occasionally featured in various projects, before his resurgence in 2020 in Father Of The Bride, Part 3(ish) and 2021’s only murdererswhich he created alongside John Hoffman.

On the personal front, Martin became a father for the first time at the age of 67, welcoming a daughter, Mary, with his wife of 15 years, Anne Stringfield.

While he did suggest he’d reached the end of his career, Martin also didn’t close the door completely.

“My wife keeps saying, ‘You always say you’re going to retire and then you always come up with something’ … I’m really not interested in retiring. I’m not. But I would just work a little less. Maybe,” he added.

Emily Ratajkowski looks somber as she wears a black tank top and green slacks while in New York City… after splitting from Sebastian Bear-McClard

Newly single Emily Ratajkowski looked somber as she was spotted walking alone in New York City today.

Taking a stroll on the bustling streets of SOHO, the brunette stunner showed off another effortless and casual summer look with her tight midriff on display.

Ratajkowski, a statuesque beauty with an impeccable physique, kept it cool as she navigated the area by foot and made an occasional stop here and there as she ran errands.

Despite the surprising news that her marriage to Sebastian Bear-McClard had come to an end with the model rumored to have filed for divorce after four years of marriage, Ratajkowski has maintained a cool sense of polished summertime style as she has been seen out often.

The iCarly alum and Blurred Lines music video muse has paved her way in recent years as a style icon both on and off the runway.

On Thursday the model paired a black sleeveless fitted top with mustard colored cotton pants that showed off her bare ankles.

Adding a black leather purse and brown leather penny loafers that the model looked to have inadvertently turned into slides, Ratajkowski looked well put together as she was in the upscale neighborhood.

At one point the model took off her black acrylic sunglasses and showed off her fresh makeup-free face in its entirety.

Sans makeup, the model glowed in the New York City streets.

Ratajkowski’s long chestnut colored hair was parted down the middle and cascaded in a loose and wavy style past her elbows.

Ratajkowski, 31, kept to herself as onlookers snapped pics and kept a watchful eye on the star.

Frederick Waite Jr, the drummer for reggae band Musical Youth — best known for the hit song Pass the Dutchie — has died, aged 55.

The band Waite announced his death on Twitter.

“Our thoughts go out to him and his family during this sad time,” the post said.

“We have lost a musical legend, who inspired many young musicians over the last 40 years.”

A notice for an inquest into his death listed by the Birmingham City Council says he died on July 20.

The cause of Waite’s death was not announced by the band.

Waite was just 15 years old when Pass the Dutchie became a hit.

More than 4 million copies of the single were sold, according to a biography on All Music.

Musical Youth was formed in Birmingham, England in 1979.

Its members, Waite’s brother Patrick Waite, Dennis Seaton, Michael Grant and Kelvin Gran, were all students at Duddleston Manor School.

They made two albums, The Youth of Today in 1982 and Different Style in 1983, before disbanding in 1985.

However, Seaton and Micheal Grant reformed as a duo and have been performing together since the early 2000s.

Musical Youth gathered to play Pass the Dutchie at the closing ceremony of the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham last week.

Michelle Branch accuses husband of cheating amid split

American singer-songwriter Michelle Branch and husband Patrick Carney are separating after three years of marriage.

“To say that I am totally devastated doesn’t even come close to describing how I feel for myself and for my family,” the singer, 39, told TMZ in a statement today, Page Six reports.

“The rug has been completely pulled from underneath me and now I must figure out how to move forward. With such small children, I ask for privacy and kindness.”

Branch gave more shocking details about the split in a since-deleted tweet, alleging that she “just found out” her husband had cheated on her “while I was home with our 6 month old daughter.”

The couple shares are Rhys James, 4, and daughter, Willie, who was born earlier this year.

Branch and Carney, the drummer for The Black Keys, first met at a Grammy party in 2015 when she was just finalizing her divorce from ex-husband Teddy Landau. Two years later, they were engaged.

However, while planning their wedding, the singer discovered she was expecting their first child together. Rhys James was born in April 2018.

“Patrick and I are over the moon in love with our son Rhys James Carney,” the everywhere songstress wrote on Instagram at the time.

A year after welcoming their son, the couple finally tied the knot at the Marigny Opera House in New Orleans.

As they tried to expand their family again, the singer revealed in December 2020 that she had suffered a miscarriage.

“I experienced my first miscarriage…” she announced on social media while celebrating the holidays. “But alas, between the crying and binge eating of Christmas cookies, I decided to put on lipstick and a dress.

“We drank champagne alllll day. Made an incredible meal and sang Christmas songs snuggled up by a roaring fire.”

Just a few months later, in August 2021, the couple was expecting again and had their second child together, Willie Jacquet Carney.

Branch also shares daughter Owen Isabelle, 17, with her ex-husband, singer Teddy Landau.

Cliff Richard pays tribute to ‘soulmate’ and close friend of 50 years Olivia Newton-John

Cliff Richard has been left ‘distraught’ by the death of his ‘soulmate’ Olivia Newton-John as he paid tribute to the iconic Australian star.

The singer, 81, who was close friends with the actress for more than 50 years, is devastated after it was announced on Monday she’d died aged 73.

Cliff and Olivia had a friendship that spanned decades after she regularly appeared on his show in the 1970s, with the musician even admitting he ‘fell in love’ with her.

Taking to social media to honor Olivia with a tribute, he wrote: ‘I find myself at a loss as to what to say. Death… well, he is a vicious enemy and all of us will be taken by him. But all of us are not taken by him at the same time and so while Olivia remains in our minds and memories, she remains very much alive!

‘I’m just one of an army of lucky people who knew and loved her. How could we not love her? She was gorgeous, gifted and had a heart of Gold. Also, a bunch of records that were Gold, but her Ella Golden Heart is her Ella legacy to us.

‘When she was first diagnosed with cancer Livvy put her career on hold for years. why? Because she wanted to inspire other sufferers to do as she did… fight the ugly disease, although she said in one interview that she was n’t in a battle with cancer just that she had something that she simply wanted to get rid of!

‘Olivia always had an up-beat approach to life. Only three weeks ago I was on the phone to her from her, and she was her bright positive self from her and I never thought for one moment of that call that I would be writing this and acknowledging her death from her. I hate that word!

‘From now on I will only believe that our gorgeous Olivia simply stopped living. I will miss her. The world will miss her, so let’s all keep her alive in our hearts and memories. God bless you Livvy. Rest In Peace…..Cliff xxx’

‘When I and many of us were in love with Olivia she was engaged to someone else. I’m afraid I lost the chance.’
