Nick referred to Alexandra as ‘my darling of four months’ in April, 2021, making the romance officially on for around 16 months.

This is the former rugby union star’s first serious relationship since he caused an uproar by not choosing a winner in the finale of The Bachelor in 2018.

Nichelle Nichols, groundbreaking Star Trek actress, is dead at 89

Despite concerns, the episode aired without blowback. In fact, it got the most “fan mail that Paramount had ever gotten on Star Trek for one episode,” Nichols said in a 2010 interview with the Archive of American Television.

“I shall have more to say about the trailblazing, incomparable Nichelle Nichols, who shared the bridge with us as Lt. Uhura of the USS Enterprise, and who passed today at age 89,” George Takei wrote on Twitter. “For today, my heart is heavy, my eyes shining like the stars you now rest among, my dearest friend.”

Takei played Sulu in the original star trek series alongside Nichols. But her impact on her was felt beyond her immediate co-stars on her, and many others in the star trek world also tweeted their condolences.

Celia Rose Gooding, who currently plays Uhura in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, wrote on Twitter that Nichols “made room for so many of us. She was the reminder that not only can we reach the stars, but our influence is essential to their survival. Forget shaking the table, she built it.”

Star Trek: Voyager alum Kate Mulgrew tweeted, “Nichelle Nichols was The First. She was a trailblazer who navigated a very challenging trail with grit, grace, and a gorgeous fire we are not likely to see again.”

Like other original cast members, Nichols also appeared in six big-screen spinoffs starting in 1979 with Star Trek: The Motion Pictures and often star trek fan conventions. She also served for many years as a NASA recruiter, helping bring minorities and women into the astronaut corps.

original star trek premiered on NBC on September 8, 1966. Its multicultural, multiracial cast was creator Gene Roddenberry’s message to viewers that in the far-off future – the 23rd century – human diversity would be fully accepted.

“I think many people took it into their hearts … that what was being said on TV at that time was a reason to celebrate,” Nichols said in 1992 when a star trek exhibit was on view at the Smithsonian Institution.

She often recalled how the Reverend Martin Luther King jnr was a fan of the show and praised her role and personally encouraged her to stay with the series.

“When I told him I was going to miss my co-stars and I was leaving the show, he became very serious and said, ‘You cannot do that,’” she told The Tulsa World (Oklahoma) in a 2008 interview.

“’You’ve changed the face of television forever, and therefore, you’ve changed the minds of people,’” she said the civil rights leader told her.

“That foresight Dr King had was a lightning bolt in my life,” Nichols said.

More recently, she had a recurring role on television’s Heroesplaying the great-aunt of a young boy with mystical powers.

Grace Dell Nichols was born on December 28, 1932, in Robbins, Illinois, a Chicago suburb, to Samuel Earl Nichols and Lishia Mae Nichols. Her father de ella was a chemist and town mayor, according to Star Trek FAQ, a 2012 book by Mark Clark. She was one of nine children in a family that included several half siblings.

Nichols hated being called “Gracie,” which everyone insisted on, she said in the 2010 interview. When she was a teen her mother told her she had wanted to name her Michelle, but she thought she ought to have alliterative initials like Marilyn Monroe, whom Ella Nichols loved. Hence, “Nichelle”.

Nichols studied ballet and Afro-Cuban dance as a child first worked professionally as a singer and dancer in Chicago at age 14, moving on to New York nightclubs and working for a time with the Duke Ellington and Lionel Hampton bands before coming to Hollywood for her film debut in 1959’s Porgy and Bess, where she worked alongside Sidney Poitier, Dorothy Dandridge, Sammy Davis jnr and Pearl Bailey. The role “opened doors for me that I might have otherwise been knocking on for years,” Nichols wrote in her autobiography of her.

In 1951, she married Foster Johnson, a dancer, and had a son, Kyle. The marriage ended in divorce.

In 1964, she appeared in her first TV episode, The Lieutenantanother show by Roddenberry.

According to the autobiography, the two struck up a friendship that became a romance until Nichols learned that the married writer was also having an affair with Majel Barrett. Barrett played nurse Chapel in the original star trek, had recurring roles in subsequent films and married Roddenberry. Nichols’s friendship with the producer continued.

Nichols was known as being unafraid to stand up to Shatner on the set when others complained that he was stealing scenes and camera time.

Nichols revived her Uhura role in the 1979 movie, Star Trek: The Motion Pictures, in which the character was promoted to lieutenant commander. In the next feature film, Star Trek II: The Wrath of KhanUhura had reached the rank of full commander.

In 1992, Mae Jemison, who as a child followed the exploits of the starship Enterprise on television, became the first black female astronaut to enter space. Before blasting off aboard the US space shuttle Endeavour, she called Nichols to thank her for her inspiration from her, according to a 1996 profile of her in Stanford News magazine.

“Images show us possibilities,” Jemison said, according to the article. “A lot of times, fantasy is what gets us through to reality.”

In 1968, in the last season of star trekNichols married for a second time, to songwriter Duke Mondy, according to FAQ. They remained together until 1972.

Her schedule became limited starting in 2018 when her son announced that she was suffering from advanced dementia.

‘He’s a very attractive young man’: Screen icon Charlotte Rampling, 76, recalls flirting with Russell Crowe, 58, before he became a huge movie star

Charlotte Rampling collected the time she enjoyed a flirt with Russell Crowe before he hit the big time in his acting career.

The Oscar-nominated actress, who leapt to prominence in Georgy Girl – ‘a doll never out of trouble’ – recalls co-starring with Russell, 58, in 1993 Australian romantic drama Hammers Over The Anvil.

And still bewitching at 76, Charlotte was in the mood for disclosure.

At the time, she was married to philandering French musician Jean-Michel Jarre, now 73, while Crowe was in an on-off relationship with actress Danielle Spencer, who later became his wife.

And speaking to The Daily Mail’s Richard Eden, Charlotte said that the younger Russell was: ‘A very attractive young man’, explaining that it was before Crowe, now ‘became huge’ thanks to films including 2000’s Gladiator.

She went on: ‘I had a flirt. You could leave it at that.’

Last year, she acknowledged that, in the 1960s, she enjoyed a menage a trois with Bryan Southcombe, later her first husband, and model Randall Laurence, but had for years denied it because her parents were ‘quite conventional’.

Speaking about her relationships, she explained to The Guardian: ‘Well, I did have two boyfriends which was racy at the time,’ she told an interviewer. ‘We were all very young. It was all chop and change. Quite a lot of things were experimental.’

Rampling, a colonel’s daughter, was always known to be close to both Bryan Southcombe, her agent and publicist, and model Randall Laurence. But she doggedly ducked the question as to just how close.

Asked now why she failed to address the truth over the years she replied: ‘You still had parents who were quite conventional and you needed to protect them and I didn’t want people in the golf club thinking… you have to keep up appearances, don’t you?’

Photographs from the time show a carefree Rampling happily posing with both men.

When she became pregnant with her son Barnaby, now a successful film-maker, she chose to marry Southcombe. Pictures from their wedding day in 1972 show New Zealand-born Laurence looking on approvingly from the car.

Asked why she chose Southcombe, Rampling told The Guardian: ‘Who knows what life has to offer you? But sometimes choices have to be made and I chose Bryan because I got pregnant.

‘And you will say, “How do you know it was his?” I won’t go any further. But I chose Bryan and Bryan is Barnaby’s father.’

Nichelle Nichols dead at 89: Star Trek icon who played Lieutenant Uhura passes away

Star Trek actress Nichelle Nichols has passed away at age 89.

The groundbreaking actress played Lieutenant Nyota Uhura on Star Trek: The Original Series from 1966 to 1969, reports The Sun.

In an Instagram post on Sunday, Kyle Johnson, Nichelle’s son, said: “Friends, Fans, Colleagues, World.

“I regret to inform you that a great light in the firmament no longer shines for us as it has for so many years.

“Last night, my mother, Nichelle Nichols, succumbed to natural causes and passed away. Her light from her however, like the ancient galaxies now being seen for the first time, will remain for us and future generations to enjoy, learn from and draw inspiration. ”

Her acting career lasted for over 40 years. She made great strides in the representation of women of color in not only television but in outer space.

Nichols was awarded the NASA Exceptional Public Achievement Medal in 2021 for inspiring and recruiting diverse communities to join its space programs.

In an interview with the Archive of American Television, Nichols recalled a life-changing moment with a fan.

The actress was about to quit star trek after the first season because she was offered a role in a play and dreamt of being on Broadway.

She even handed in her letter of resignation to the creator of star trek Gene Roddenberry – which he rejected, telling her to think about it for a few more days.

Then a fan, Dr Martin King Jr, said to her: “You cannot, you cannot. Don’t you understand what [Roddenberry] have you achieved?

“For the first time on television, we will be seen as we should be seen every day – as intelligent, quality, beautiful people who can sing and dance and who can go into space.

“Who can be lawyers, who can be teachers, who can be professors, who we are in this day and yet you don’t see it on television until now,” he said.

“Gene Roddenberry has opened a door for the world to see us.

“If you leave, that door can be closed because you see your role is not a black role and it’s not a female role. He can fill it with anything including an alien.”

Dr King persuaded her to stay on the show and continue to be a role model.

Her son’s statement continued: “Hers was a life well lived and as such a model for us all.

“I, and the rest of our family, would appreciate your patience and forbearance as we grieve her loss until we can recover sufficiently to speak further.

“Her services will be for family members and the closest of her friends and we request that her and our privacy be respected.”

He concluded by saying: “Live Long and Prosper.”

Ne-Yo’s wife, Crystal Renay, accuses him of cheating: ‘8 years of lies and deception’

Looks like Ne-Yo’s wife is about to become “Miss Independent.”

Crystal Renay shared an impassioned statement via Instagram on Saturday, in which she accused her husband of cheating on her with “numerous” other women over the course of their nearly decade-long relationship, reports the new york post.

“8 years of lies and disappointment. 8 years of unknowingly sharing my life and husband with numerous of women who sell their bodies to him unprotected… every last one of them!” her statement from her began.

“To say I’m heartbroken and disgusted is an understatement. To ask me to stay and accept it is absolutely insane. The mentality of a narcissist. I will no longer lie to the public or pretend that this is something it isn’t,” she continued.

Renay, 36, added that she would be focusing on herself moving forward, writing, “I choose me, I choose my happiness and health and my respect.

“I gained 3 beautiful children out of this but nothing else but wasted years and heartache,” the model added of the three kids she shares with the 42-year-old singer — sons Shaffer Chimere, 6, and Roman Alexander-Raj, 4 , as well as 13-month-old daughter Isabella Rose.

She concluded on a conciliatory note that nonetheless conveyed an air of finality: “If someone can’t love you the way you deserve then it’s up to you to love yourself. With no hate in my heart I wish him nothing but the best.”

A spate of celebs and influencers proclaimed their allegiance to Renay in the comments section, offering both condolences and words of support.

“Stand in your truth boo. Now it’s just time for the next chapter in your story. Sending you all the good vibes,” wrote social media personality Landon Romano.

“So sorry,” wrote model and dancer Bria Myles, adding five melancholic crying emojis.

By Sunday afternoon, Ne-Yo responded to Renay’s post via Twitter.

“For the sake of our children, my family and I will work through our challenges behind closed doors,” he explained.

“Personal matters are not meant to be addressed and dissected in public forums. I simply ask that you please respect me and my family’s privacy at this time.”

Renay first started dating Ne-Yo sometime after the two met in 2015 to discuss potentially collaborating on the musician’s upcoming album, according to People.

The R&B star’s ex-fiancee, Monyetta Shaw, 42, — with whom he shares Madilyn Grace, 11, and Mason Evan, 10 — claimed in a 2016 New York Post op-ed that she learned of his involvement with Renay in 2014 , one year after he’d broken up with Shaw over the phone.

In any case, the One in a Million crooner successfully proposed to Renay in 2015, and the two wed a little under a year later — at which time she was nearly nine months pregnant with their first child.

The couple briefly split in 2020 before remarrying in 2022, throwing a lavish ceremony in Las Vegas to celebrate their reunion.

‘Punched in the face’: Chris Rock reacts to Will Smith’s apology

Hours after Will Smith took to social media to apologize for slapping Chris Rock during the 2022 Oscars, the stand-up took to the stage to wax poetic over the moment.

Rock compared Smith to former Death Row Records executive and currently incarcerated hothead Suge Knight, reported Page Six.

“Everybody is trying to be af***ing victim,” Rock, 57, said during a gig at Atlanta’s Fox Theater Friday night.

“If everybody claims to be a victim, then nobody will hear the real victims. Even me getting smacked by Suge Smith… I went to work the next day, I got kids.”

“Anyone who says words hurt has never been punched in the face,” Rock added, according to People.

The comic is currently touring his new material as part of his Ego Death World Tour. He also touched on the subject during recent shows in New Jersey and New York, co-headlined by Kevin Hart.

Smith’s latest apology — as he also apologized to Rock via social media days after the notorious incident — revealed that Rock has refused to speak to him so far about the moment he deemed “unacceptable.”

“I reached out to Chris, and the message that came back is he’s not ready to talk, but when he is, he will reach out,” Smith said in the video posted to YouTube. “I will say to you, Chris, I apologize to you. My behavior was unacceptable, and I’m here whenever you’re ready to talk.”

Smith, 53, also apologized to Rock’s mother and brother Tony Rock.

“That was one of the things about that moment that I didn’t realize,” he continued. “I wasn’t thinking about how many people got hurt in that moment. I want to apologize to Chris’ mother, to Chris’ family of him, especially his brother, Tony Rock. ”

Tony, who previously worked with Smith on an early-2000s sitcom All Of Ustook Smith to task over hitting his brother, leaving the Oscar winner with the impression that their relationship is now “probably irreparable.”

“Disappointing people is my central trauma.

“I hate when I let people down, so it hurts psychologically and emotionally to know that I didn’t live up to people’s image and impression of me,” he further explained. “The work I’m trying to do is I am deeply remorseful, and I’m trying to be remorseful without being ashamed of myself.”

Feige Teases “Fantastic 4,” “Deadpool 3” Plans

Feige Teases Fantastic 4 Deadpool 3 Plans
Marvel Studios

In the wake of last weekend’s Comic-Con panel, Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige has been giving interviews offering some post-announcement brief updates on projects.

One such chat session was with THR the other day where I touched upon a few titles including the new “Fantastic Four”. The studio is actively hunting for a director in the wake of Jon Watts’ exit and one who can have the film ready in time for its November 2024 release.

One thing Feige can confirm, like with Spider-Man being brought into the MCU, is that the F4 film will be skipping an origin story:

“A lot of people know this origin story. A lot of people know the basics. How do we take that and bring something that they’ve never seen before? We’ve set a very high bar for ourselves with bringing that to the screen.”

For a while now, there’s been pressure on Marvel to disclose an overarching goal for its current ‘Phase 4’ as the various works since “Avengers: Endgame” have seemed somewhat standalone.

That’s changed somewhat with Feige’s announcements last week of the fifth phase and some of the sixth phase, and Feige says the current fourth phase has all been “about resetting the MCU and meeting all these new characters.”

One film not discussed last weekend was “Deadpool 3,” and Feige says to look at the MCU’s track record for third films to get an idea of what they’re going for:

“How do we elevate it in the way we’ve been able to with Civil War, Infinity War and Ragnarok? It’s very fun to be in the world of the Ryan Reynolds show.”

More Marvel stuff is expected to be shown off at the D23 convention from September 9th-11th, with that more likely to focus on the Disney+ series side of things. The studio’s ceaseless output is also continuing to be subjected to criticism by VFX artists, such as in a piece for Vulture.

Marvel is currently filming the second season of “Loki,” doing additional photography for both “The Marvels” and “Secret Invasion,” and is prepping the “Blade” shoot in Atlanta in October along with gearing up for the release of “Black Panther : Wakanda Forever” in November.

Netflix sues Unofficial Bridgerton musical by TikTokers for copyright infringement

Netflix has sued the creators of an allegedly unauthorized musical stage production of its popular period drama Bridgerton, accusing them of copyright infringement after building demand for their knock-off on TikTok.

The complaint was filed against Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear in the federal court in Washington, DC, three days after a sold-out performance of The Unofficial Bridgerton Musical in that city’s Kennedy Center.

A lawyer for the defendants had no immediate comment, having yet to review the complaint.

Bridgerton, based on Julia Quinn’s bestselling romance novels, attracted 82 million viewers in the first four weeks of the series’s debut on Netflix, a record at the time.

It was renewed for a second season, and inspired a spin-off series and live event, The Queen’s Ball, hosted in six cities.

Netflix said after Bridgerton was first released in December 2020, the defendants started posting about the series to TikTok, where they have 2.4 million followers, including creating songs based on characters, scenes, dialogue and plot points.

Netflix sought to stop the alleged infringements, plus unspecified damages.(Netflix:Bridgerton)

The company said it warned the defendants repeatedly to stop, but they ploughed ahead with an album titled The Unofficial Bridgerton Musical, which won a Grammy award, and their stage show.

“Barlow & Bear’s conduct began on social media, but stretches ‘fan fiction’ well past its breaking point,” Netflix said.

“It is blatant infringement of intellectual property rights.”

Barlow and Bear’s musical was performed in front of a sold-out crowd at the Kennedy Center in Washington, where Netflix was hosting its own live Bridgerton experience.

The Kennedy Center show “attracted Bridgerton fans who would have otherwise attended the Bridgerton Experience and created confusion as to whether Netflix had approved of Barlow & Bear’s unauthorized derivative works,” Netflix said in the lawsuit.

A September performance is planned for Royal Albert Hall in London, the suit claims.

Series creator Shonda Rhimes said in a statement while there is “so much joy” in seeing audiences fall in love with Bridgerton and find creative ways to express their appreciation, “what started as a fun celebration by Barlow & Bear on social media has turned into the blatant taking of intellectual property solely for Barlow & Bear’s financial benefit.”

Author Quinn added she was “flattered and delighted” when Barlow and Bear composing Bridgerton songs and sharing with their other fans on TikTok.

“There is a difference, however, between composing on TikTok and recording and performing for commercial gain,” she said.

The lawsuit seeks to stop the alleged infringements, plus unspecified damages.

Rachel Griffiths ‘deeply moved’ by devastation found while filming new series

Watching a man clean the remnants of a devastating flood from his home was a sobering moment for actor and producer Rachel Griffiths.

She was traveling across Australia filming earlier this year when a painting by Arthur Streeton drew her to the Hawkesbury River in New South Wales.

Griffiths was met by a community recovering from their third flood in 12 months.

“Standing with a guy who’s pressure washing his house for the third time and feeling deeply connected to a place he isn’t sure he has the ability to deal with or accept nature’s fury — that was one of our deeply moving times,” Griffiths said .

She never imagined that local Rohan Smith who she interviewed would be doing a fourth clean-up just weeks later.

Griffiths has come away with a heightened appreciation of the harsh realities of Australian landscapes.

Life after lockdowns

Presenting the new ABC art series Great Southern Landscapes, she has taken a deep dive into some of Australia’s most iconic landscape paintings and hopes the prime-time series will inspire wanderlust for our own backyard.

Rachel Griffiths sits in a boat with Erin Wilkins which is being driven down the Hawkesbury River.

The Melbourne-based actor and producer came out of pandemic lockdowns hungry to explore the natural beauty and she’s done so through the eyes of some of our greatest artists.

An art-lover herself, Griffiths wasn’t disappointed.

“It was wonderful to fly across the great breadth of the country after the borders opened and I think what I really loved hearing was how people outside of Melbourne experienced the past few years,” Griffiths said.

The six episodes capture the devastation of recent flooding, the cultural significance of the landscapes and the painful history that has played out.

Lake Eyre in South Australia, Western Australia’s Exmouth and Cottesloe Beach, and Warrnambool in Victoria are some of the backdrops to feature in the 30-minute episodes filmed from February to July.

Griffiths cherishes the time she spent exploring the landscapes that surrounded Albert Namatjira, a pioneer of contemporary Indigenous Australian art.

Rachel Griffiths stands on a bridge over a river with her arms spread.

In one episode, she will take viewers to Namatjira’s house at Hermannsburg in the Northern Territory to hear about how pivotal he was in sharing knowledge of country and inspiring other artists to do the same.

It’s in her blood

Griffiths herself grew up inspired by artists from all walks of life.

She had a passion for art through school and trailed her mother Anna Griffiths around galleries.

“For me it’s part of my day-to-day language because I’m the daughter of an artist and I’m married to an artist and I’m a performing artist,” Griffiths said.

Her love of landscapes is reflected in the films that have captivated the actor.

Griffiths described mystery film Picnic at Hanging Rock as formative for her, fascinated by the idea that the landscape could be a place that could eat girls.

“I think what put Australian filmmaking on the map was our cinematographers and our directors before our writers,” she said.

“Whether it’s Baz Luhrmann’s Sydney in Strictly Ballroom to Tracks, I think our filmmakers have always sought to do justice to the incredible views that we have.”

Rachel Griffiths stands in front of a grassy landscape. She is wearing a brown hat.

She hopes Great Southern Landscapes will also do justice to our country’s precious natural environment, just as the featured artists have done.

Griffiths said it would be great to give ABC viewers some inspiration to see what their own backyard has to offer.

“I hope to inspire people when they do go to that viewing spot — rather than get out of the car, run over, take a selfie and fall off a cliff — you actually Google who was here, whose land you are on and what stories were here,” she said.

“And you understand the place in a slightly deeper way than just the five-minute Instagram.
