Victorian councils ax in-home services as aged care providers struggle to find staff

Louise Craig had been using her local council’s in-home care assistance for about 15 years, but this year the Mornington Peninsula Shire Council (MPSC) made the decision to stop the services, leaving elderly residents waiting for support.

MPSC is one of 28 local government regions across the state opting to discontinue in-home care services.

Ms Craig told ABC Radio Melbourne it had been seven weeks since she had helped cleaning her home.

“Now I’ve had nothing, I’ve had no service since June 21st,” the Somers resident said.

Prior to this, she said she was sent a letter stating she could choose between aged care organizations mecwacare or Bolton Clarke to continue her in-home support once the MPSC services ceased on June 30.

“Since then [I’ve heard] absolutely nothing,” she said.

In a letter from mecwacare, Ms Craig said the organization was training new staff and struggling with worker shortages.

“‘We ask that you please be patient with us, we will call you to schedule the services but this may take some time,'” she quoted the letter as saying.

“When all this began, someone from the council told me I could be waiting six months and it looks as though they were right.”

Struggling to get by

Ms Craig, who has emphysema, said she used to get her house cleaned once a fortnight.

“What I do now, I do what I used to do before I realized I wasn’t coping,” she said.

“In the kitchen I sweep regularly, where I make a meal or drop crumbs, I sweep it up.

“As for the rest of it, the carpets don’t get vacuumed, the floor areas don’t get mopped and the bathrooms don’t get cleaned.

“I can wipe down the bathroom sink but I can’t do very much.”

It was not just the wait that was frustrating Ms Craig.

“The woman who did the work for 15 years basically became a friend, she was a lovely person and took her work very seriously,” she said.

Ms Craig said the delays made her feel like she was one step closer to being forced into an aged care facility.

No need to rush, union says

The Australian Services Union’s Victorian and Tasmanian branch secretary, Lisa Darmanin, believed councils were choosing to opt out of in-home care after changes made by the previous federal government.

“There have been some funding changes to the provision of in-home aged care over the years, some of it as a result of the royal commission, but the previous government kept extending the funding, so there is no need for the councils to get out of these services,” she said.

“The funding has been extended for another 12 months, into next year, and we have been arguing with councils across the state that they do not need to exit these services at the moment, but they are continuing to do so.”

Ms Darmanin said it would be a challenge to fill the staffing shortages with private aged care providers because those roles were less appealing to employees than positions within local governments.

“Most of the workers have not moved across [to a private organisation] because of the lower wages,” she said.

“Different employers have different employee arrangements and historically the not-for-profit and private sector have lower wages and conditions … than services provided by council.”

She said in some cases the difference was about $10 less per hour.

“The conditions are quite stark and it’s easy to understand why there’s quite a high turnover,” Ms Darmanin said.

Council passes urgent motion

Mornington Peninsula Mayor Anthony Marsh said the council had chosen to push the change forward to give residents the best chance of attracting quality service providers in readiness for the government’s new open market system.

“We did not get a say in the appointment of new providers, that was done by the federal government,” he said.

“We were given assurances by both providers and the federal government that all essential services would continue to be delivered from the 1 July transition date.

“We offered to keep some staff on to help with the transition, but that offer was turned down.”

Mr Marsh said the MPSC passed an “urgent motion” at its meeting yesterday seeking assurance from the federal government that residents’ care would be accounted for during the change-over period.

Council on the Aging chief executive Ian Yates said in-home care was provided well by councils and not-for-profit and private providers.

“Many home care services are under stress at the moment because of workforce pressures, like many other industries,” he said.

But Mr Yates said he believed the council should have continued to provide care until it was assured its elderly residents’ needs would be met.

“I think there is a duty of care,” he said.

mecwacare said it had contacted all clients transitioning to its service and that “client care and support was paramount”.

In a statement, Bolton Clarke said services had commenced for all referred clients receiving essential support, including personal care and shopping.

“All remaining clients have been contacted and we remain in touch on a regular basis to update on progress and to address any immediate needs and as part of this,” it said.

“We are checking what other supports clients have in place and those without family visiting regularly are prioritized for services.”

Abbott’s campaign hits back after NYC Mayor Adams threatens to bus New Yorkers to Texas

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott’s campaign on Tuesday shot back at New York City Mayor Eric Adams after Hizzoner threatened to send busloads of New Yorkers to Texas to campaign against Abbott in the upcoming gubernatorial election in retaliation for Texas sending busloads of migrants to the Big Apple.

“I already called all of my friends in Texas and told them how to cast their vote, and I am deeply contemplating taking a busload of New Yorkers to go to Texas and do some good old-fashioned door knocking because, for the good of America , we have to get him out of office,” Adams said Tuesday during a press conference.

Adams’ comments marked the latest in a spat between the liberal cities of Washington, DC, and New York City and the conservative border states of Arizona and Texas. The governors of the states have enraged the liberal mayors by sending thousands of migrants to their cities — which the mayors say have strained their social systems.

Abbott’s campaign responded to Adams’ comments later Tuesday.

“Because of high taxes, out of control crime, and poor leadership by the Mayor, people are volunteering to leave New York City without the Mayor asking,” campaign spokesperson Mark Miner told Fox News Digital. “It looks like Mayor Adams has taken on the additional role of political director for [Democratic candidate] Beto O’Rourke.”

That clash came hours before three more buses arrived in New York City on Wednesday morning.

The movement of migrants into the cities has become a major political issue in recent weeks. DC Major Muriel Bowser recently called the situation a humanitarian crisis and requested the deployment of the National Guard — a request denied by the Pentagon. Both majors have blamed the Republican states, with Adams on Tuesday again attacking Abbott.

“It’s unimaginable coming to a country, your first visit here, someone is throwing you out as the governor of Texas is doing and then trying to navigate this complex country to deliver your services,” he said.

The governors of Arizona and Texas, however, have said that the mayors are experiencing a small slice of the effects of the Biden administration’s border policies, which they blame for the enormous number of migrant encounters at the border each month. There have been more than 200,000 migrant encounters a month over the last four months, with more than 500,000 getaways since the beginning of the fiscal year in October.

Abbott began busing migrants to DC in April in what he said was an effort to bring the migrant crisis to the politicians responsible for it. He has since started sending migrants to New York City as well. Arizona has been sending migrants to DC but has said it is not sending them to New York.

NYC MAYOR ERIC ADAMS BLASTS TEXAS GOV. GREG ABBOTT AFTER SECOND BUS OF MIGRANTS ARRIVES

“Washington DC finally understands what Texans have been dealing with every single day, as our communities are overrun and overwhelmed by thousands of illegal immigrants thanks to President Biden’s open border policies,” Abbott’s office said in a statement earlier this month.

On Friday, he said that New York City “is the ideal destination for these migrants, who can receive the abundance of city services and housing that Mayor Eric Adams has boasted about within the sanctuary city,”

On Sunday, another bus arrived in New York City, with 40 migrants on board — only 14 of whom disembarked in the Big Apple. Abbott has also said he is considering looking at other cities where migrants can be sent.

Separately, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has mulled sending migrants to President Biden’s home state of Delaware.

HyperSocial CEO Braden Wallake mocked for crying selfie after staff cuts

The CEO of an online marketing firm was lambasted on social media after he posted a “cringe-worthy” selfie on LinkedIn that showed him crying as he announced cuts to staff.

Braden Wallake, CEO of marketing services firm HyperSocial based in Ohio, US, took to the professional networking site to announce the firings in a lengthy post to employees, the new york post reports.

It is unclear how many employees were let go by the company.

“This will be the most vulnerable thing I’ll ever share,” he wrote. “I’ve gone back and forth whether to post this or not. We just had to lay off a few of our employees.”

Mr Wallake then wrote that the dismissals were “my fault” because of a decision that he made in February. I have admitted that I am “stuck with that decision for far too long”.

“Now, I know my team will say that ‘we made that decision together,’ but I lead [sic] us into it,” he wrote. “And because of those failings, I had to do today, the toughest thing I’ve ever had to do.

“We’ve always been a people first business. And we always will be,” he said.

“Days like today, I wish I was a business owner that was only money driven and didn’t care about who he hurt along the way,” Mr Wallake wrote. “But I’m not. I’m sure there are hundreds and thousands of others like me.”

According to HyperSocial’s LinkedIn page, the company, which was founded in 2019, has up to 50 employees.

“The ones you don’t see talked about,” he continued. “Because they didn’t lay off 50 or 500 or 5000 employees. They laid off one or two or three. One or two or three that would still be here if better decisions had been made.”

Mr Wallake continued: “I know it isn’t professional to tell my employees that I love them. But from the bottom of my heart, I hope they know how much I do.

“Every single one. Every single story. Every single thing that makes them smile and every single thing that makes them cry,” he wrote. “Their families. Their friends. Their hobbies. I’ve always hired people based on who they are as people.

“People with great hearts and great souls. And I can’t think of a lower moment than this,” Mr Wallake wrote.

The post by Mr Wallake generated more than 30,500 reactions, with more than 5,800 comments, and nearly 500 shares as of Thursday morning. Most of the reactions were negative.

“Why don’t you cut your salary or don’t take one until the company is back where you need it to be?” one commenter wrote on LinkedIn. “I mean, if you really care about your employees and the hardship you just dropped on them.”

Another LinkedIn user posted a screenshot of an Instagram post by Mr Wallake from June in which he announced that he adopted a sea otter.

“Maybe it’s not a great idea to adopt a sea lion at the beginning of a recession?”

Mr Wallake pushed back, saying that the adoption was a result of a “donation made on my behalf as a birthday present to me” and that he doesn’t “actually have a sea otter running around our van”.

Another LinkedIn user wrote: “Are you being serious here? Perhaps you think all publicity is good publicity.

“For goodness sake show some humility or some dignity.”

Another critic wrote: “I am sorry, your post causes bad feelings at me. This is more about YOUR feelings and not about the feelings of the people you had to lay off. That looks a bit like self-pity.”

But others on LinkedIn defended Mr Wallake – and clapped back at those who ridiculed him.

“What about this post in which he admits his faults, failures and expresses his anguish at the hurt he’s caused made you feel the need to pile on?” one defend wrote.

Mr Wallake posted another message on LinkedIn on Wednesday in response to the backlash. He defended his decision to post the thread and pushed back on suggestions that he publicly named the fired employees.

“Hey everyone, yes, I am the crying CEO,” he wrote.

“No, my intent was not to make it about me or victimize myself. I am sorry it came across that way.”

Mr Wallake continued: “It was not my place to out the employees’ names publicly.

“What I want to do now, is trying to make better of this situation and start a thread for people looking for work,” he wrote.

A Shared Open-World MMORPG Set in the Far Future

A lack of resources and energy have forced humankind to leave Earth, Aida – a lush and habitable alien world – was decided as the best place to build a new life. After they arrived, the comet Mara was spotted and led to humanity discovering an unknown but powerful energy called Omnium in it. They built Omnium Tower to capture the comet, but Omnium’s radiation led to a catastrophic disaster that changed everything forever. Now, it’s up to you and your friends to save humanity from destruction.

Bring Your Friends With You On This Grand Adventure

Tower of Fantasy can be played alone, but it becomes an even more grand adventure when you bring your friends along for the ride. Gather your crew to take on Tower of Fantasy’s greatest challenges and to show off your characters and the gear and weapons you have acquired throughout your respective journeys.

Freeform Character Customization Lets You Create the Avatar of Your Dreams

One of the aspects of living in a virtual world is creating a character you can call your own. Tower of Fantasy has taken this notion to heart and is giving players an expansive set of tools to craft the Wanderer of their dreams by customizing outfits, body type, skin color, eye shadow and color, and so much more. Tower of Fantasy is a free-to-play adventure that will continue to get updates and expansions, and you’ll be able to experience all it has to offer with a Wanderer that shows the world who you truly are.

A Deep and Flexible Combat System

Tower of Fantasy’s combat will be familiar to anyone who has played a hack-and-slash RPG in the past, but it has many unique aspects to it that will make it feel fresh, exciting, and rewarding. In combat, you will have access to three different weapons, and using one will charge up the other two. When the charge on the other weapons has reached a certain level, you can unleash a devastating discharge attack that can turn the tide of battle. Furthermore, if you can pull off a perfectly timed dodge, you will activate Phantasia, an ability that will not only charge your weapons, but one that will slow the enemies near you.

Gain the Weapons and Abilities of Heroes With the Simulacrum System

One of the most important aspects of the combat system and Tower of Fantasy as a whole is the Simulacrum system. These Simulacrum are described as ancient heroes preserved as AI and can be obtained through the gameplay and by unlocking them using real-world money. These Simulacrum can be equipped by the player and doing so will give them access to their special weapon and abilities. You can also choose to look like them if you want, but those who love their own Wanderer can turn that function off. This system allows you to equip different Simulacrum to your different weapon slots to suit your playstyle, whether that be long-range, close combat, magic, or a mix of all of them.

Explore Tower of Fantasy’s Alien World with Motorcycles, Robotic Horses, Mechs, Jetpacks, and More

Exploration is as big a part of Tower of Fantasy as combat is, and players will have the ability to discover many different areas in the world of Aida. To help with that mission, players will gain access to different mounts like motorcycles, robotic horses, mechs, and more. However, that’s not all, as Relics will also play a huge part in the game and will open up parts of the world that were previously inaccessible. For example, the Jetpack Relic will let you fly higher into the air than before and reach treasures that were just out of reach. The Missile Barrage Relic can break up rock formations to open up caves, and it has the benefit of also being a tool to use in battle.

Publisher Level Infinite and developer Hotta Studio have officially released Tower of Fantasy and players were able to preload the game and enjoy character customization ahead of the opening of the servers.

The addition of British home cooking queen Nigella Lawson to MKR’s judging team has been a huge hit, with viewers praising her grace, class, beauty and cooking insights.

But they are also blown away by her age, with many fans revealing they thought she was about 20 years younger than she actually is.

Lawson turned 62 in January this year – a fact that some fans are having trouble understanding.

“Can someone explain to me how Nigella Lawson can look so stunning ALL THE TIME?” one MKR viewer wrote on Twitter.

“She (is) 62yo and looks 42.

“What kind of witchcraft is she performing!”

“Gosh I didn’t know her age she’s a stunning human,” one follower answered.

“She literally has looked the same for 20yrs!

“Look at her neck, not a single wrinkle – I’m telling you, forget what ppl tell you, endulge (sic) in butter and cream and sweets, and chocolate and lush velvety rich sauces – and live and look like #QueenNigella! ”

“If I don’t age like Nigella Lawson, I don’t want to get old at all,” another observed.

Another simply wrote: “Nigella Lawson is 62. I refuse to accept this.”

Lawson said her trick to looking youthful was staying out of the sun – and eating “lots of fats.”

“I think what ages a face most is disappointment and a lack of enjoyment,” she once said.

“So I try to do what I love.”

Lawson has been famous for a lot longer than many people realize, however.

She shot to fame in the 1990s with her first cookbook and her TV career began in 1999 with the show Nigella Bites.

She’s since amassed a legion of fans who love the pleasure she takes in cooking and eating food.

“Not only is she a bona fide food-lover & relatable to all us home cooks but it’s her personable nature, positive energy, insightfulness & unique way with words that makes her so endearing,” one MKR viewer wrote on Twitter.

“Oh Nigella just brings so much warmth to this new season of MKR!” another noted.

Others have noted the nice rapport between Lawson and long-term judge Manu Feildel.

Speaking to 7Entertainment, Feildel said he was “thrilled” to be working with Lawson, whom he described as a “lovely” person.

Feildel said while he was a trained chef and Lawson a home cook, they both felt the same way about what made a great meal.

“We’re pretty much on the same page when it comes to that, actually,” he said.

“It doesn’t matter if you’re a home cook or if you’re a chef – I think if you love food, you know what’s right and what’s wrong.

“I might know a bit more about technical ways of cooking something, but at the end of the day, the judging is pretty much about putting a fork of food in your mouth and you either like it or you don’t.

“It’s that simple.”

MKR continues on Channel 7 and 7plus Monday to Wednesday nights at 7.30pm.

Qatar makes late schedule change to FIFA Football World Cup

The World Cup’s start will be brought forward by a day to allow hosts Qatar to play the opening game, sources told AFP on Wednesday, just over three months before the competition gets underway.

Qatar will now play Ecuador on November 20, 24 hours earlier than planned, in a move that FIFA’s ruling council was expected to confirm soon, according to sources with knowledge of the matter.

Watch the world’s best footballers every week with beIN SPORTS on Kayo. LIVE coverage from Bundesliga, Ligue 1, Serie A, Carabao Cup, EFL & SPFL. New to Kayo? Start your free trial now >

The change will see the tournament, which was switched to November-December to avoid the Gulf country’s searing summer heat, keep to its tradition of the hosts playing the opening match.

Senegal and the Netherlands had been scheduled to play the first game on November 21, followed by England against Iran and then the official opening match, Qatar’s World Cup debut, that evening.

“There were discussions and agreement between the two respective teams and there was a request from CONMEBOL — the South American confederation,” one World Cup source told AFP, speaking on condition of anonymity as no official decision has been announced.

“We wanted to follow the tradition that either the reigning champions or the host country be involved in the opening match,” the source added.

FIFA and the Qatari organizing committee declined to comment on the change to the mega event that ends on December 18.

But another tournament source said action would be taken to help fans with tickets for the November 21 game.

“Any disruption will be dealt with so the impact is minimal,” the source told AFP.

Under the change, Netherlands v Senegal in Group A would be moved from 1pm local time on November 21 to a 7pm start. “It is a better slot for both teams for television and other areas,” said the World Cup source.

England’s Group B match against Iran is not changed.

Companies with major deals linked to the World Cup expressed confidence that the unusual schedule change could be handled smoothly.

“It is something we will deal with,” said Jaime Byrom, chairman of Match Hospitality, which has a deal with FIFA to organize hospitality packages for World Cup matches and has locked in 450,000 tickets for the tournament.

“It is really not — compared to the other challenges that we could have faced or have faced in the past — a particularly large problem,” Byrom told AFP.

“We have to focus on those customers who are most affected and I guess in this case we will be looking at our Ecuadorean customers who are traveling from overseas, and making sure that they are on time for the match.”

Some pundits ridiculed the schedule change, asking why the move hadn’t already been considered.

New York Times reporter Tariq Panja tweeted: “Qatar and FIFA has had 12 years to plan for the 2022 World Cup now with just over 100 days and — with tickets sold, travel booked — they now want to start the tournament a day earlier so Qatar could play the first game (which could always have been the case). But here we are.

“What I suspect has happened here is that because it’s ‘only’ Ecuador and not a big European country, it has probably been easier to switch the game. What has never been made clear is why Qatar had not been placed in the opening game as per the original schedule.”

Journalist Grant Wahl wrote: “This late change to accommodate Qatar (and cause problems for Ecuador, including its fans) is of a piece with what I saw during the bid process for World Cup ’26 cities: FIFA does so much by the seat of its pants these days.”

The opening match is scheduled to be held at the 60,000-capacity Al Bayt stadium, one of seven new venues purpose-built for the tournament since Qatar was controversially awarded the World Cup in 2010.

The wealthy Gulf state is preparing a spectacular opening ceremony in the stadium, whose structure was inspired by traditional Arab tents.

Moving forward the opening match will also mean changing the 100-day countdown that had been scheduled to start on Saturday, with special events across the tiny nation of 2.8 million people.

After a row over the bidding process, Qatar has faced criticism over labor rights and its treatment of the LGBTQ community. But FIFA president Gianni Infantino has said the tiny, gas-rich state will host the “best ever” World Cup.

NSW farmers say Murrumbidgee flooding exacerbated by dam mismanagement

Farmers who lost livestock due to flooding along the Murrumbidgee River say water management by dam operators has made the event worse than it needed to be.

The Murrumbidgee River reached moderate to major flood levels this week following releases of close to 100,000 megalitres a day from Burrinjuck Dam after record inflows from some parts of the catchment.

Borambola farmer Trish Cookson lost dozens of calves in the flood, with some washing up dead, and still has cattle stranded by floodwaters.

She said they could have managed the anticipated flows of up to six meters but they struggled with the larger than expected water release.

“We’ve made several attempts with boats, dogs, neighbours, trying to get the cattle out… it’s very heartbreaking,” Ms Cookson said.

She said living on the banks of the Murrumbidgee, they expected some natural riverine flooding, but keeping dams at such high levels during a La Nina year was “reckless.”

“I would say that it’s been mismanagement of the water storage facilities,” she said.

A woman stands in front of floodwaters, spread out across paddocks.
Ms Cookson says the flooding was due to mismanagement of water storage facilities.(ABC Riverina: Olivia Calver)

Ms Cookson said there were plenty of opportunities throughout the year for dam managers to lower dam levels.

Of the two Murrumbidgee storages, Burrinjuck Dam has not fallen below around 80 per cent this year, while Blowering Dam has not dropped far below 90 per cent full.

WaterNSW is in charge of dam operations and said Burrinjuck Dam filled and spilled due to inflows that were higher than forecast.

“The Yass River at Yass, in particular, experienced its highest flood peak since records began in 1915,” WaterNSW said in a statement.

“WaterNSW will make releases from rural dams well in advance of an event in order to create airspace and mitigate the impacts of future rain events.

“However, when storages are full WaterNSW has limited ability to mitigate floods.”

Flooding impacts ‘seem to be ignored’

Independent Wagga Wagga MP Joe McGirr said he had been contacted by several landholders concerned about the dam management.

“The concern that landholders have expressed to me is when those levels are kept too high. The risk is when you get a sudden weather event… the dam spills,” Dr McGirr said.

Dr McGirr said he had brought the issue to the attention of NSW Parliament this week.

“It’s almost as though so much priority is given to the need for the irrigators to have their water and the environmental flows that the effects of flooding… seem to be ignored.”

Fear of more flooding this spring

Ms Cookson said she was holding out hope that floodwaters would recede soon, but with a full catchment and wet spring predicted, any relief could be short-lived.

“I can only see that for every rain event that happens, we’re going to be plunged further and further into this quagmire that we’re in at the moment,” she said.

“I fear for those animals. We will continue to try and find a way to get them out.”

Murrumbidgee River landholders are also worried about the NSW government’s program to more effectively deliver environmental water to the Murray Darling Basin.

The Reconnecting River Country Program could see the river run at higher flow rates, potentially exacerbating natural flooding events.

“After having the water modeling done on our property, we know that the reconnecting river program is virtually going to make our property not a viable business,” Ms Cookson said.

“We have a billabong that cuts from one of our property to the other.

“At the higher flow levels that they’re predicting, we will not be able to access 34 per cent of our property.”

The Department of Planning and Environment said current water levels seen across the Riverina were well above the flows being considered by the program.

“We take the views of landholders and stakeholders seriously, and we encourage them to have their say on the flood mapping and flow options to ensure we get it right,” a Department of Planning and Environment spokesperson said.

John Kelly Shocked by Trump Not Wanting Wounded Vets in Parade: Book

  • John Kelly once had to tell Donald Trump that wounded war veterans “are the heroes,” after Trump said he didn’t want to include them in a military parade.
  • According to an excerpt from an upcoming book by Peter Baker and Susan Glasser, Kelly was shocked by Trump’s request.
  • “I don’t want them. It doesn’t look good for me,” Trump said of including wounded veterans in the parade.

A shocked John Kelly — one of Donald Trump’s former White House chiefs of staff — once had to tell Trump that wounded veterans “are the heroes” after the former president said he didn’t want them featured in a military parade because he feared them’ d make him look bad.

According to an excerpt from an upcoming book by Peter Baker and Susan Glasser, “The Divider: Trump in the White House, 2017-2021,” Trump — after attending the 2017 Bastille Day parade in Paris — told Kelly that he did not want any injured veterans at a 2018 military parade.

“Look, I don’t want any wounded guys in the parade,” Trump said, according to the book. “This doesn’t look good for me.”

He noted that at the Bastille Day parade, there were several wounded veterans, many of whom were in wheelchairs after losing limbs in battle.

According to the book excerpt, Kelly — a retired Marine Corps General — could not believe what Trump had asked.

“Those are the heroes,” he told Trump, the book reads. “In our society, there’s only one group of people who are more heroic than they are—and they are buried over in Arlington.”

Kelly’s son, Robert was a lieutenant killed in action in Afghanistan and is among the veterans buried at Arlington, according to the book.

“I don’t want them. It doesn’t look good for me,” Trump said again.

According to a 2020 report from the Atlantic, Trump also said “nobody wants to see that,” in reference to the wounded veterans.

Plenty of Trump’s former team, including Kelly, have been critical of the former president since they left the administration and he has left the White House — particularly Trump’s actions around the January 6, 2021 riots at the Capitol.

Kelly, for example, told ABC News’ Jonathan Karl last year that if Trump were “a real man,” he would’ve gone down to the Capitol on January 6 and told his supporters to stop the violent attack.

Glasser and Baker’s forthcoming book offers a detailed look at the ways Trump clashed with the former generals that served as top advisors to him early in the former president’s tenure.

In once instance covered in the book, Trump asked Kelly why US generals weren’t as loyal to him as the senior officers who served Adolf Hitler during WWII.

“You fucking generals, why can’t you be like the German generals?” Trump said to Kelly, per an excerpt from the book published in the New Yorker.

Kelly said to Trump, “You do know that they tried to kill Hitler three times and almost pulled it off?” But Trump was insistent that the generals were “totally loyal” to Hitler, according to the book.

In an interview with NBC on Tuesday, Kelly confirmed that the book’s depiction of this interaction was accurate. Kelly spoke on Trump’s “unwillingness to accept that the American generals should not be loyal to him as the German generals were to the leader of Germany. And, again, I very definitely pointed out that they tried to kill him.” [Hitler] a number of times.”

The Block 2022 recap episode 4: Last-minute renovation dramas cause chaos the Blockheads as they race to finish waterproofing

Time is ticking for our teams to finish their main bathrooms, and they need to move fast if they want any chance of winning the biggest prize in Block history.

With a $250,000 kitchen upgrade on offer for the winning team, the stakes in the first week have never been higher.

But not everything is going to plan, and last-minute renovation dramas are causing major disruptions as teams scramble to complete their waterproofing.

Stream the latest episodes of The Block for free on 9Now.

After being thrown into the show last-minute, following Joel and Elle’s shock exit, Rachel and Ryan are still settling into Block life.

After finding out their plans of having a walk-in shower in their bathroom didn’t meet regulations, the couple needed to come up with a solution fast. While a quick fix is closing the wet area by adding a built-in shower screen, Rachel isn’t willing to compromise.

“That wasn’t ever an option for us… it was going completely against the aesthetic of our design,” she says.

EPISODE THREE RECAP: Foreman Keith shuts one team’s site down after someone else ‘snitches’ on them

Luckily the pair end up making major alterations to the floor to meet regulations. And it is a massive sigh of relief when the Blockheads get the tick of approval from Foreman Keith.

But it’s a different situation over in House 4.

Dylan and Jenny’s plans get tripped up by the exact same regulations as they’re told they can’t have a walk-in shower without making changes to their floor.

“If we did that, we wouldn’t be able to finish,” Jenny admits.

“When you have something in your head, I hate things changing but I feel like it’s The Block so I’m gonna have to get used to that.”

In House 5 Omar and Oz have big plans for their bathroom, so the last thing they want to hear is that their floor needs to be ripped up and redone to meet safety standards.

Foreman Keith pays them a visit to deliver the bad news.

“The floor was a little big staggered next to the shower side so he told us we had to pull off some sheets and redo that again as well,” Omar says.

Keith tells the boys that there’s no other option but to start again and the boys start to worry about how far behind they’re falling.

“That was very disappointing. We’re gonna be waterproofing on Friday. We’re so far behind,” Omar reveals.

But the pair somehow manage to get back on track and redo the whole space in time to waterproof.

Meanwhile reno rookies Ankur and Sharon, who were comfortably ahead, are also hit with a massive setback.

“We thought we were in a good spot then everything started to go downhill,” Ankur reveals.

Foreman Keith pulls Ankur aside and raises his concerns about their waterproofer priming the floor with mud.

The situation becomes worse after the same waterproofer leaves the job later that night without finishing.

Sharon reveals she had to beg the company to send someone back, and the same tiler ends up returning at 1.30am to get the job done.

“You can imagine how awkward that was ’cause he didn’t want to be there in the first place. We had to watch with an eagle-eye to make sure the waterproofing was done to the standard The Block requires,” Sharon says.

The following morning a tired Sharon smokes after finding out she was bumped down in the queue to have her underfloor heating installed.

“Ours was supposed to be first but some d–kheads cut the line,” she vents to Rachel. “I don’t know how they do that.”

But we do, and so does Jenny in House 4.

“Last night I called the underfloor heating guys and said, ‘What can I do for you? So you can come earlier’ and he said, ‘You can buy me some cruisers’,” she reveals.

She delivers a case of cruisers and the tradies deliver on their promise to install her underfloor heating first.

“Jenny is good. She bribed them with a slab of cruisers,” Sarah-Jane reveals. “I respect the hustle… and I was like, ‘I’ll be on the cruisers next week’,” she adds.

Over at House 1, Tom and Sarah-Jane scramble to track down an emergency shower screen after finding out their original 2.4-meter one didn’t comply. They finally manage to secure a screen, but the next challenge they’re faced with is getting the tick of approval from Foreman Keith.

It’s an anxious wait for Sarah-Jane who is itching to leave the site and spend the afternoon celebrating her daughter Cleo’s first birthday.

But Keith calls the plastering “beautiful” and gives them the green light to start waterproofing.

The couple race off to visit their baby daughter and it’s a beautiful moment as the family sing ‘Happy Birthday’ to Cleo and share a cake together.

“It was so good to see Cleo… I picked her up and she had a grin ear to ear,” Tom reveals.

“Mummy misses you so much,” Sarah-Jane tells the baby girl, who happily picks up and hands her dad the entire cake.

With the teams back on track after finally finishing waterproofing their bathrooms, Shelley Craft meets all the contestants and does her first walkarounds with Scotty.

It’s bad news for Rachel and Ryan who get a reality check after Shelley questions their contemporary style of bathroom with no nod to the heritage era of their house.

Meanwhile Oz and Omar are understandably star-struck when they meet Shelley. Oz gets goosebumps and can hardly talk.

Scotty and Shelley worry that the teams aren’t hitting the mark with their rooms, and are particularly worried about Omar and Oz’s bathroom being finished in time.

It’s a hectic couple of days and our Blockheads are all working hard to deliver the first room on The Block. Stay tuned to see what they deliver on Sunday.
