Live Your Yu-Gi-Oh Fantasy With a Hologram Game Table

Of all the attempts we’ve seen to digitize card games and eliminate game night controversies over poorly shuffled decks and questionably dealt hands, the ReQTable is the most ambitious and easily the most awesome, with its ability to generate holograms of playing cards that appear to float in front of each player, all without revealing those cards to others. Add some virtual monsters, and you’ve got my editor’s childhood dream.

Most attempts to digitize board games and card games usually involve turning a giant touchscreen display into a table large enough for players to gather around. That’s the approach devices like Arcade1Up’s Infinity Game Table have taken, and while they ensure that no one can rage flip the digital game boards and playing pieces when they start losing, they make it hard to play games like Poker, where players need to keep their hands private. The Infinity Game Table’s solution is physical shields that you can place on the touchscreen to hide specific parts of it from others, but the ReQTable’s solution is to throw some very cool custom display technology at the problem.

Developed by researchers at the University of Tokyo and set to officially debut at the Siggraph 2022 conference taking place next week, the ReQTable improves upon existing holographic display technology called slit mirror arrays. These are able to generate images that appear to float in mid-air in front of the intended observer without the need for special glasses. With dual-sided mirror arrays, the technology can generate a pair of holograms, viewable from opposing sides, which in this instance allows one person sitting at the table to see the cards they’ve been dealt with, while the person sitting across from them only sees the generic card backs.

It's Time to Duel: Live Your Yu-Gi-Oh Fantasy With a Hologram Game Table

The problem with this approach is that the dual slit mirror arrays traditionally produce stray light and ghost images, which in the case of a virtual card game, gives players a glimpse of their competitors’ hands. The ReQTable solves this problem and eliminates the stray light and ghost images through the use of polarizers, which can selectively suppress light of a specific frequency, and view control films, which block light traveling in certain directions, as detailed in a recently published paper:

Dual-sided displays as light sources are placed under the dual SMAs. In this case, the light rays from the back of the dual-sided displays forms mid-air images for each of the users. The light rays from the display are linearly polarized by the first polarizer. Next, the rays that form the ghost images are reflected an odd number of times in the dual SMAs. Therefore, the direction of their polarization changes, and they cannot pass through the second polarizer. In contrast, transmitted light rays and light rays forming mid-air images are reflected an even number of times in the dual SMAs. Their direction of polarization is different from that of the rays that become ghost images. Therefore, they can pass through the second polarizer.

Playing a round of virtual poker is a fun demonstration of why this improved holographic display technology could be potentially useful, but there are countless other applications. One day, computer monitors might be replaced with holographic displays generated by a desk, and the technology developed for the ReQTable could allow multiple people to share the same desk while keeping their individual holographic screens private from each other. The technology also encourages additional human interactivity, because despite a holographic object appearing to float in front of everyone at the table, they can still easily see each other and physically interact without the worry of knocking anything over.

Not to mention, we could use it to play a very advanced version of a children’s card game.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis suspends ‘Soros-backed’ state attorney who refused to enforce abortion ban

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis suspended liberal State Attorney Andrew Warren on Thursday.

DeSantis made the announcement during a Thursday press conference broadcast on social media. DeSantis argued that Warren has repeatedly refused to enforce laws passed by the legislature cracking down on child sex change surgeries and abortion restrictions.

“We are suspending Soros-backed 13th circuit state attorney Andrew Warren for neglecting his duties as he pledges not to uphold the laws of the state,” DeSantis’ office said in a statement. The 13th circuit falls over Florida’s Hillsborough County.

“The constitution of Florida has vested the veto power in the governor, not in state attorneys,” DeSantis said. “We are not going to allow this pathogen of ignoring the law to get a foothold in the state of Florida.”

‘THE VIEW’: HERE’S HOW RON DESANTIS’ POLITICAL TEAM RESPONDED TO INVITE FROM ABC TALK SHOW

Officials said Warren has repeatedly tried to install himself as an adjudicator of what laws will and will not be enforced.

DeSantis’ office had teased the Thursday move on Wednesday, saying the announcement would not be political or related to endorsements.

“This isn’t about abortion or any one thing, it’s about having accountability to our system of law and order to prosecute crime. There has been a pattern developing in Hillsborough County where one person picks and chooses which laws he wishes to enforce,” his office stated.

This is a developing story. Check back soon for updates.

Two People Made A Killer Immersive Sim That Holds Up Against Prey, A Genre Classic

Imagine if I told you there was a new immersive sim — think Prey, Dishonored, etc — but made by a team of just two people. And then imagine I told you it was really damn good. And now stop imagining, because it’s real, obviously. It’d be a weird intro if it weren’t. Ctrl Alt Ego is a PC game about being an unattached ego, able to leap between various electronic items aboard a vast space station, and it’s consumed my week.

I want to get the room’s elephant acknowledged as early as possible, so we can get on with what’s important: no, this game doesn’t look pretty. Its art is functional, rarely attractive, and no screenshot is going to sell the game. But that matters for about thirteen seconds, and then you get on with the business of enjoying the game itself. And it’s a heck of a game.

You are, as I say, some sort of noncorporeal entity, capable of leaping between specific electronic items on a space station. This includes an awful lot of stationary items, from communicative CAT cabinets and wall-mounted monitors, to security cameras and destructive monitoring DAD bots. But crucially, there are also a bunch of mobile robots on board the ship, most importantly one called Bug 22.

picture

Bug 22 is your constant companion (well, vehicle, really) throughout the game, capable of being “printed” at any number of Printing Stations, and given an ever-expanding number of abilities as you progress. The range of these abilities is extraordinary, unlockable in any order you choose, and dramatically changing how you can approach the game’s challenges. You could give Bug a weapon straight away, and take a far more aggressive approach to getting past the station’s angry security. Or you could pick the ability to levitate, and as such reach otherwise impossible passages and materials. Or you could pick Shift, and have a sort of telekinetic ability to move objects. Or you could…

It’s utterly incredible just how differently almost every situation in Ctrl Alt Ego can be approached, based on the skills you’ve unlocked, and indeed just your personal predilections. The game is designed to be experimented with, and techniques that feel like they might break the game have most likely been considered and accounted for. This means you have that Prey-like freedom to improvise, and the incredible satisfaction of discovering that your madcap approach can work!

Screenshot: MindThunk / KotakuScreenshot: MindThunk / Kotaku

This is all the most interesting for the way you aren’t Bug 22. It’s just a useful vehicle, but can also be completely abandoned for great stretches, as you leap between other mobile bots like the dog-like PUPs, spend a resource called Ego taking over defensive bots like DADs, and later mobile murder machines called MUMs, and explore vast areas just by jumping your consciousness.

There’s SO much detail here, with every possess-able machine offering unique messages, all manner of story pouring in from whoever is talking to you through the CAT cabinets, piles of goals to complete in each of the game’s vast sections in any order you choose , by any means you improvise, all with a phenomenal degree of freedom.

It’s mystifying that something so free, so open, is the work of two people, total. Yo have managed to break it a couple of times, through some outlandish actions, but the majority of the time I’ve just been delighted to find out my cockamamy plan has worked out. It also offers that most crucial of immersive sim elements: the bit where a great plan goes to crap, and you’re flailing to survive. It’s a joy that Ctrl Alt Ego rarely has me wanting to reload in such moments, but instead to scramble, to try to improvise my way out of a sudden and overwhelming jam.

there are SW many elements I want to tell you about, little details that blew me away, discoveries about ways to get through situations, even core game elements, but I got to discover them all for myself, and you should too. This is a wonderful game to just dive into, deliberately opaque at the start, as you learn its systems for yourself.

Screenshot: MindThunk / KotakuScreenshot: MindThunk / Kotaku

It’s also a huge game, a solid 20 hours at least, constantly expanding and becoming more interesting throughout. I’ve not finished it yet, and can’t wait to see what it has to offer in its final hours. This is remarkably good, and importantly, would still be considered remarkably good if it had come from a team of 30. Honestly, if Arkane doesn’t immediately give its creators a job, then I don’t understand how the universe works.

This is in my GOTY list already, and I desperately hope that it can break through, get some wider attention, and not be unfairly held back by its more primitive graphics. You’ll be blown away. And for just twenty bucks, along with an hours-long demo, you may as well try!

Ricky Nixon calls out A Current Affair reporter Seb Costello, says he should be bounced at court

Fallen AFL agent Ricky Nixon has urged his supporters to chase Channel 9 journalist Seb Costello down the street as payback after he was ambushed by the reporter.

Costello, 35, confronted Nixon about his latest questionable business venture, which led to the A Current Affair reporter copping an elbow to the head and saying he would be reporting to police.

But Costello himself is set to front court over an unconnected incident after he was charged this week with two counts of unlawful assault – with his alleged victims breaking their silence on Thursday.

Melbourne siblings Finn, 23, and Xanthe, 22, allege Costello confronted them after they had mistakenly blocked off access to his driveway.

Xanthe’s partner was waiting in the parked car, blocking the laneway off Boyd Street, Richmond on February 11 while the brother and sister were in their house nearby.

The brother and sister spoke to The Herald Sun, alleging Costello walked up their steps and yelled at them and, when they were apologetic, he turned more aggressive.

‘I had to put my hand out on to his chest to stop him from pressing up against me,’ Xanthe said.

She claimed she needed to step back inside her house to regain her balance because she had moved up to the top step in front of her and that only when Finn said he would call the police did he back off.

They also allege Costello let fly with another tirade at Xanthe’s partner in the car as he walked off.

Costello, who works for A Current Affair, said he was on ‘compassionate leave’ when the argument occurred because his grandmother had died.

He said the ‘disagreement’ was minor and that he remained on the lower step and did not threaten or assault anyone.

The siblings disagree and said they were ‘disappointed’ that he acted so ‘angry’ and ‘entitled’ over the public laneway being blocked.

Costello is set to front Collingwood’s Neighborhood Justice Center on September 28.

Costello made headlines himself just last week after he was allegedly elbowed by disgraced former player agent Ricky Nixon (pictured)

Just last week, Costello was looking at pressing his own assault charges after an altercation with former AFL player and prominent footy agent Ricky Nixon.

He had confronted him for an ACA segment about the latest health business he was running, a service that offers $350 intravenous infusion treatments for those who ‘want a totally revitalized life and feel’.

The venture was slammed by the Australian Medical Association Victoria president Roderick McRae.

The ex-footy player and disgraced agent had also launched an ‘ambulance’ to provide mobile health services during the Covid pandemic.

Costello could possibly have used an ambulance himself after he confronted Nixon on Bay Street in Port Melbourne about his businesses.

‘I’ll be careful how I characterize it, but in the process of speaking with Mr Nixon his elbow has made contact with my jaw… I think it’s fair to say I didn’t headbutt somebody’s elbow,’ Mr Costello told 3AW .

He eventually decided not to press charges, with Victoria Police confirming on Wednesday afternoon their investigation was completed after they received a ‘no complaint’ statement.

Nixon seemed particularly pleased when he heard of the assault charges against Costello, who is the son of former Treasurer and Nine Chairman Peter Costello.

‘Winner winner chicken dinner,’ he captioned a link to the story on Facebook, referring to his nickname.

Nixon had previously tried his hand at stand up comedy with a routine called ‘Chicken Train’ at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival in 2013.

The post received hundreds of comments from supporters with one suggesting a ‘Chicken Vs Costello’ boxing match would be a ‘promoter’s dream’.

‘Should get all the Chicken fans to wait outside court and chase him (Costello) down the street,’ another said.

To which Nixon replied: ‘Great idea’.

Nixon was once one of the top AFL agents and possibly sports agents in the country.

His ‘Flying Start’ agency helped manage the careers of stars such as Matthew Richardson, Nick Riewoldt, and Wayne Carey.

His agency collapsed in 2011 when pictures of him in his underwear allegedly inside the hotel room of a 17-year-old girl were leaked.

He subsequently fled to England and when he returned he sold his agency amid a loss of accreditation by the AFL and a number of assault and traffic charges leveled against him by police.

Trump ally Navarro sued for alleged unofficial email account

NEW YORK (AP) — The Justice Department filed suit Wednesday against Peter Navarro, claiming the former adviser to Donald Trump used an unofficial email account while working in the White House and wrongfully retained presidential records.

The lawsuit in federal court in Washington claims Navarro used at least one “non-official” email account — a ProtonMail account — to send and receive emails. The legal action comes just weeks after Navarro was indicted on criminal charges after refusing to cooperate with a congressional investigation into the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol.

The civil cases alleges that by using the unofficial email account, Navarro failed to turn over presidential records to the National Archives and Records Administration.

The Justice Department is asking a federal judge for an order “authorizing the recovery of any Presidential records in the possession, custody, and/or control of Mr. Navarro.” The suit also seeks unspecified damage.

“Mr. Navarro is wrongfully retaining Presidential records that are the property of the United States, and which constitute part of the permanent historical record of the prior administration,” the suit states.

A lawyer representing Navarro in the criminal case did not immediately respond to a message seeking comment about the civil case.

David Klemmer dropped by Newcastle Knights for spraying trainer

The exact reason Newcastle had to stand down fiery prop David Klemmer this week has been revealed.

NRL fans were shocked on Tuesday when Klemmer’s named did not appear on the Knights’ teamsheet for round 21.

The bombshell came a day after reports emerged the Eels had tried to snatch the former Origin prop before the August 1 trade deadline.

A Knights statement later revealed Klemmer had been stood down and handed a breach notice for disciplinary reasons. Those reasons were later revealed to be him refusing to leave the field during Sunday’s loss to the Bulldogs, and swearing at club trainer Hayden Knowles.

A plethora of rugby league greats have questioned why a club would ax a player for that offence, which they say happens multiple times a game.

But the Sydney Morning Herald has now revealed why Knights coach Adam O’Brien had no choice but to stand his star forward down.

The Knights are owned by Wests Group, and Knowles reportedly made an official HR complaint to the business about the language used by Klemmer towards him during the game.

As per the company policy, HR required Klemmer to be stood down from duties until the matter was resolved.

The Herald says Klemmer should be back to regular duties as soon as Friday, although he won’t be able to take the field this weekend.

Earlier, Herald journalist Christian Nicolussi revealed the Tigers have hosed down reports of a swap deal for Klemmer.

Rumors circulated the prop could head to Concord in exchange for Tigers halfback Luke Brooks, who tried to join the Knights last off-season.

Incoming Tigers coach Tim Sheens denied a trade was in the works.

Paul Pelosi could have taken a ride-share app home for $60, his DUI charge has already cost him over $5G

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

A ride-share home for Paul Pelosi from his friends’ cocktail party in Oakville, California, to his sprawling vineyard estate 15 minutes away could have cost less than a bottle of Stag’s Leap cabernet and avoided both the crash that injured another driver and DUI charges .

Pelosi, the wealthy investor husband of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, pleaded not guilty to a pair of misdemeanor charges Wednesday stemming from the wreck, which happened after 10 pm on May 28 near the intersection of California Route 29 and Oakville Cross Road.

Accessed Wednesday, Uber, a leading ride-sharing app, showed a range of prices between $18 and $61 for the 15-minute trip between Oakville, where police say Pelosi had a few drinks with his friends, and his own multimillion-dollar vineyard home . An online search shows local black car service begins at $70 an hour.

Either would have cost far less than his listed $5,000 bond and ensuing legal fees — in addition to saving the other driver from neck, arm and back injuries and preserving both vehicles, which police said sustained “major collision damage.”

A spokesman for Pelosi did not immediately respond to messages seeking comment.

According to investigators and Pelosi’s defense attorney, Amanda Bevins, he was “cite released” from Napa County Department of Corrections custody — meaning he did not actually have to pay bail to go home. He is currently free on his own recognizance and due back in court on Aug. 23.

PAUL PELOSI PLEADS NOT GUILTY TO DUI CHARGES MONTHS AFTER CRASHING PORSCHE IN CALIFORNIA

Pelosi, the head of Financial Leasing Services in San Francisco, is worth more than $100 million.

When police arrived at the scene, they allegedly found him sitting in his damaged 2021 Porsche. According to the criminal complaint, he allegedly handed officers his driver’s license and an “11-99 Foundation” card when they asked him for his ID. The 11-99 Foundation is a California Highway Patrol charity that supports officers and provides scholarships for their children.

Officers observed “signs of impairment,” including “red/watery eyes,” according to the complaint, and said he failed field sobriety tests.

“He was unsteady on his feet, his speech was slurred, and he had a strong odor of an alcohol beverage emanating from his breath,” the complaint alleges.

The other driver, identified only as John Doe, was standing outside an SUV, according to the documents.

NAPA COUNTY AUTHORITIES RELEASE PAUL PELOSI MUGSHOT WEEKS AFTER DUI ARREST

Both of them declined medical treatment at the scene, but Doe on June 2 told Napa County prosecutors that he had begun suffering pain in his upper right arm, right shoulder and neck the day after the crash. He also complained of headaches and said it was difficult to lift things with his right arm, according to the documents.

Speaker Pelosi’s office declined to comment on the charges, after previously describing the crash on a public roadway as a “private matter.”

Bobby Shamuilian, a California-based defense attorney who specializes in DUI defense, told Fox News Digital on Wednesday that Pelosi’s charges can result in probation, jail time, rehabilitative classes and fines — costing the driver time and money.

“A lot of people drive when they shouldn’t, however, it’s much safer making other arrangements,” he said. “With Uber, Lyft, taxis and limos, there is no excuse to drive under the influence. Reckless behavior is very costly, and even more so when it involves a public figure or someone closely related.”

CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APP

Furthermore, Shamulian warned, DUI crashes have increased in severity, in terms of injuries and fatalities, in the post-COVID-19 period, possibly due to decreased availability of ride-shares and increased cost as well as increased stress causing riskier behavior.

“Mr. Pelosi could have prevented having a potential criminal conviction and saved many thousands of dollars by using any readily available ride service,” he said. “Let’s hope that the lesson he will learn will inspire others to do the right thing and even potentially save lives.”

Hunter Moore responds to Most Hated Man On The Internet

Hunter Moore, who is the subject of Netflix’s news The Most Hated Man on the Internett documentary, has responded to the documentary.

The 36-year-old was the founder of the first ever revenge porn website, after launching IsAnyoneUp.com in 2010. The website allowed anyone to anonymously upload nude photos along with their social media handles, with Moore describing himself at the time as a “professional life ruiner” who encouraged people on the site to do “their worst” in the comments section under each photo.

The Netflix documentary follows Charlotte Laws, whose daughter was a victim of the website, and her quest to shut the whole thing down. As the official synopsis reads, “Determined to remove her daughter’s photos from a revenge porn website, a persistent mother launches an online crusade to shut down its cruel founder de ella.

hunter moore responds to most hated man on the internet

“Featuring poignant, exclusive interviews with multiple women and men who fought to have their images taken down, plus law enforcement agents who worked the case and the crusaders who fought to take Moore down.”

Now, Hunter has responded to The Most Hated Man On The Internet on Twitter, insisting ‘60% of the documentary is bulls***.’

I have wrote,A lot of you have been asking why didn’t I tell my side of the story on Netflix documentary, well at first we all had agreed about the terms and all but at the end they wouldn’t let me tell my side of the story , basically I had to say what they wanted me to say, so I back[ed] off.

“There is always two side of the stories, 60% of that Netflix documentary was BS, they never want you to tell or hear the truth.”

This content is imported from Twitter. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site.

In response, Director Rob Miller insisted that Moore is fairly represented throughout the documentary (via Metro). “A lot of things that he said that we included in the series he said repeatedly over various interviews, so it’s not just a one-off that he can excuse by saying… ‘I was drunk.’ So, I do feel it’s representative of who he was, at that point in time.”

This content is imported from Twitter. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site.

In January 2014, four years after he launched the revenge porn site, the FBI arrested Moore on charges of conspiracy, unauthorized access to a protected computer and aggravated identity theft. He later pleaded guilty to charges of aggravated identity theft and aiding and abetting in the unauthorized access of a computer.

He was released from prison in May 2017, and one year later he went on to self-publish a tell-all book titled, Is Anyone Up?! The Story of Revenge Porn.
