Australians have the chance to own an entire town and their own pub in East Gippsland just like popular show Schitt’s Creek

Australians have been given a once in a lifetime opportunity to own an entire town, including a charming historical pub nestled in Victoria’s East Gippsland region.

Coopers Creek was settled in the 1860s and has since been the site of copper and lime mining after not striking much luck digging for gold during Victoria’s gold rush.

The small town is set on 11 acres on the Thomas River and consists of 21 lots, all of which are up for grabs to potential buyers.

The peculiar listing has drawn parallels with popular tv show Schitt’s Creek.

The show follows the adventures of the Rose Family who loses their fortune and takes up residence in the small town of Schitt’s Creek, which they bought as a joke during wealthier times.

Fans of the show or Australians wanting to own a piece of history now have the chance to buy the town of Coopers Creek, which at its height had a population of 250 people.

Mason White McDougall Real Estate expects the town may sell for around $2.5 to $3million, similar to the price of a single home in Melbourne’s Kew or Hawthorn.

Ian Mason, the Director of Mason White McDougal, said the town is the perfect place to live out the dream of starting a business or living off the grid.

“If you have ever wanted to own your own town or be the mayor of your own domain, this is the place for you,” Mr Mason said.

“Whether it’s setting up a tourism business or a desire to live off grid immersed in nature.”

The East Gippsland region is known for its stunning mountain ranges and is surrounded by beautiful bushland.

The town is a haven for outdoor adventures and therefore the region attracts bushwalkers, fishermen, kayakers and campers alike.

Mr Mason also advertised the towns stunning scenery and pristine natural environment as the perfect escape for the right buyer.

“Coopers Creek offers endless opportunities including a break from city life and a change of scenery in one of Victoria’s most pristine natural environments,” he said.

“Like the Rose family in Schitt’s Creek, Coopers Creek could be a life-changing move for the right buyer.”

Hackers have found a way to log into your Microsoft account

Account holders for Microsoft email services are being targeted in a phishing campaign, according to security researchers from Zscaler’s ThreatLabz group.

The objective behind the threat actors’ efforts is believed to be the breaching of corporate accounts in order to perform business email compromise (BEC) attacks.

As reported by Bleeping Computer, BEC-based activity would see payments being redirected toward hackers’ bank accounts via the use of forged documents.

Zscaler, a cloud security company, said that targets were involved in various industries, such as fin-tech, lending, accounting, insurance, and Federal Credit Union organizations based in the US, UK, New Zealand, and Australia.

At the moment, it seems the campaign has yet to be properly addressed by Microsoft, with new phishing domains being published nearly every day.

The campaign was originally detected in June 2022, with analysts observing a sudden rise in phishing attempts against the aforementioned industries, in addition to account holders of Microsoft email services.

Threat actors would incorporate links to the emails as buttons or HTML files that would redirect the target to a phishing page. Bleeping Computer points out how certain platforms don’t see open redirects as a vulnerability, which has led to these malicious redirects going through Google Ads, Snapchat, and DoubleClick.

Businesses and individuals are increasingly turning to multifactor authentication to secure their accounts. As such, obtaining a login email and password nowadays won’t provide anything of value to hackers.

Custom phishing kits and reverse proxies like Evilginx2, Muraena, and Modilshka have now come into play to bypass an MFA-enabled account.

A phishing proxy that essentially acts as a middle man between the victim and email provider service is capable of extracting the authentication cookies. Through this method, hackers can use the stolen cookies to log in and completely evade MFA for an account.

For this particular campaign, a custom proxy-based phishing kit was found utilizing the Beautiful Soup HTML and XML parsing tool, which amends actual login pages derived from corporate logins in order to incorporate phishing components.

Cyberattacks in general have nearly doubled since last year, while Microsoft itself started an initiative to tackle the rapid rise of cybercrime with its Security Experts program.

Biloela family granted permanent visas to stay in Australia

Asylum seekers affectionately known as the “Biloela family” have been granted permanent visas to stay in Australia.

The Nadesalingam family were at the center of a lengthy immigration battle and spent four years in detention until their release a few months ago.

In June the new federal government allowed them to return to the small Queensland town of Biloela while their case was ongoing.

This afternoon the Department of Home Affairs granted Priya, Nades, Kopika and Tharnicaa – previously know as the Murugappans – were given permanent visas.

Minister for Immigration, Citizenship and Multicultural Affairs Andrew Giles confirmed the decision had been finalized.

“This Government made a commitment before the election that, if elected, we would allow the family to return to Biloela and resolve the family’s immigration status,” he said in a statement.

“Today, the Government has delivered on that promise.

“This decision follows careful consideration of the Nadesalingam family’s complex and specific circumstances.

“I extend my best wishes to the Nadesalingam family.”

It was a moment years in the making for the Sri Lankan family, made possible by the campaigning of Biloela locals protesting their detention and attempted deportation in 2018.

The Murugappan family had been living in detention since 2019, with much of that time spent on Christmas Island.

They were removed from their home in the Queensland town of Biloela and taken into detention in 2018 when their visa expired.

Priya and Nades’ daughters, Kopika and Tharnicaa, were both born in Australia after the couple arrived in Australia by boat seeking asylum.

Priya and Nades are both Tamil, a group that has been persecuted in Sri Lanka.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Fan Designs Shiny Variants for Fidough, Cetitan, and Paldean Wooper

Without official reveals of the new shiny variants in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, one fan shows off what they think the rare creatures would look like

New pieces of information about pokemon scarlet and violet have been steadily releasing since the game was first unveiled earlier this year. There have been three official looks at pokemon scarlet and violet at the time of writing, with each diving into more detail about the latest mainline games in the widely successful franchise. So far, fans have seen a look at the new Paldea region, characters that will be added to the story and, of course, new Pokemon to catch in pokemon scarlet and violet.

GAMERANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Something that hasn’t yet been shown of pokemon scarlet and violet is what shiny Pokemon will look like in the game, which has led fans to create their own versions of the rare creatures. For the uninitiated, shiny Pokemon have a different design from their regular counterparts and they appear much more infrequently, although this has changed somewhat in recent games. For example, it is easier to shiny hunt in titles like Pokemon Legends: Arceus Because the Pokemon can be seen in the overworld rather than only appearing when a player steps into tall grass.

a lot of Pokemon players love the shiny variants of the pocket monsters, with many adding the rare Pokemon to their teams as a badge of honor that shows how hard they worked to get it. pokemon scarlet and violet will have their own versions of new shiny Pokemon, but one fan on Reddit couldn’t wait for those titles to release in November. Instead user Immediate-Comb1755 designed their own shiny variations for Cetitan, Fidough, and Paldean Wooper, which were all new Pokemon unveiled in the latest trailer for Scarlet and violet.

Cetitan, a new Ice-Type Pokemon, has an interesting new shiny design. Its usual look is mostly white, with a bit of gray around its mouth and stomach and pink spots on its hands and tail. The fan-made shiny variant instead swaps the white coloring of Cetitan to black, with red over its eyes and hands, giving it a much more intimidating look. The gray around its stomach has also been swapped for more of a steel or silvery color. Fidough’s design keeps the cuteness of the combination of dough and dog, but swaps out the yellow color of the Pokemon with a pink makeover.

Paldean Wooper might be the most unique of the fan-made shiny designs, as it gives the new version of the Gen 2 Pokemon a look very similar to its past incarnation. In pokemon scarlet and violet Paldean Wooper swaps out the traditional blue color for brown, symbolizing its new life on land. However, Immediate-Comb1755’s design returns Wooper back to its original colors, much to the joy of some nostalgic fans in the comments.

pokemon scarlet and violet release on November 18 for Nintendo Switch.

AFL 2022: Fresh twist in Buddy Franklin saga amid conflicting reports about move from Swans to Brisbane

Buddy Franklin is reportedly edging closer to a deal to remain at the Sydney Swans as rumors swirl over his future in the AFL.

Channel 9 reported on Thursday Franklin was set to turn his back on Sydney for a deal with the Brisbane Lions.

The report said the Lions and Franklin’s management have already entered into preliminary discussions.

It was immediately countered by Swans CEO Tom Harley who said the report linking Sydney’s star forward to Brisbane was “news to him”.

“There’s nothing to announce, but there’s nothing untoward at the same time (on Franklin’s future),” Harley told 3AW.

“There’s no hurry from our point of view and no hurry from his point of view.

“Things are all tracking well at the moment.”

Brisbane coach Chris Fagan said on Friday the Lions would be open to having a chat with Franklin if he was indeed considering moving north to continue his career.

The Lions coach felt if Franklin was to relocate to Queensland it would likely be for retirement rather than to continue his football career.

“I would have thought if they are moving to Queensland, that’s perhaps an indication that Bud’s going to retire from AFL football,” Fagan said.

But sports broadcaster Andy Maher said on Friday he has been told Franklin will stay with the Swans and is simply signing up the details around a contract extension.

“I can’t say where it came from, but Franklin’s not going to Brisbane,” Maher said on his SEN radio show.

“He’s not going, he’s going to stay at Sydney and they’re in the throws of working out the contract, so it does sound like he’s going to play another year at the Swans if this information is true and where it’s coming from is pretty strong.

“They’re arguing whether the last $100,000 is marketing money or how it fits in, how they can use what they have available to them within the rules of the game to satisfy what is right for Franklin to receive.

“They’re right at the very end and the edges of just tidying up the contract for next year.”

The conflicting reports come as former Hawthorn forward Ben Dixon argued Franklin has more chance of “playing on the moon than Victoria” next year, with Brisbane the perfect fit.

“I reckon there’s some real merit in (rumors of the Brisbane move),” Dixon told Fox Footy.

“My gut feels is yes (he’ll leave Sydney).

“He’s more chance of playing on the moon than in Victoria.

“Going for one more tilt, going to a different club, it’s not going to tarnish anything about your reputation in the game.

“He’s only going to go north.

“He’s a Perth boy, but you can rule out those two clubs (Fremantle and West Coast). You can rule out the Giants. It’s a process of elimination – the Gold Coast or it’s Brisbane.

“Brisbane’s right in the wheelhouse to win it. If it’s not this year, they still have got a little tilt next year.

“I know his motivation in signing a long-term deal with Sydney was sustainable success.

“I think his drive and his motivation – he wants to win a flag.

“He could be the hottest property in Queensland.

“If you look at it and you say: ‘Who’s closer to the flag (Gold Coast or Brisbane)?’ Well, there’s no doubt Brisbane are.”

Franklin and his wife Jesinta have made plenty of headlines in recent months after the bombshell news the 35-year-old believed the Swans were lowballing him.

Franklin joined the Swans from Hawthorn in 2014 on a nine-year $10 million deal but the star forward was looking for $700,000 per season.

While Franklin has been injury prone in recent years, the scenes of fans flooding onto the SCG when he kicked his 1000th career goal earlier this year showed he is still one of the sport’s biggest drawcards.

But reports of a move out of Sydney dominated headlines in early July and Jesinta told Channel 7’s The Morning Show “we’ve got options” when questioned about the speculation.

University of New England vice chancellor resigns after assault allegation

University of New England’s vice chancellor Brigid Heywood has resigned after being accused of assaulting a teenage girl.

Heywood has been charged with common assault and offensive behavior following an incident at an event at Armidale’s Ex Services Memorial Club in March.

It has been alleged Heywood assaulted a 16-year-old girl at the event.

The family of the teenager have said Heywood touched the girl and commented on her skin color at an International Women’s Day event.

Police confirmed to 9news.com.au that a 65-year-old woman had been charged and said the girl was not physically injured.

UNE Chancellor James Harris released a statement on Friday confirming Heywood had resigned from her position at the university.

“The University Council and Professor Heywood acknowledge the criminal charges laid against her on 1 August 2022, and the widespread attention and concern this has garnered within the University and the broader community,” Harris said.

“In this context, Professor Heywood formed the view that it was in the best interests of the University that she resign from her position and the University Council has accepted her decision.

“Given the charges are before the Court, the University Council does not intend to make any comment about the charges or their subject matter.

“However, both Professor Heywood and the University Council acknowledge the deep hurt felt by many on hearing of the charges, and thank the community for the patience shown as we worked through these matters.”

The statement also said Heywood “strenuously denies” the allegations.

Harris acknowledged Heywood’s contributions to the university during her tenure.

Heywood will face court next month.

RNC to name Milwaukee as 2024 GOP convention host city

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

The Republican National Committee on Friday will formally name Milwaukee as the host city for the GOP’s 2024 presidential nominating convention.

The vote by all 168 RNC committee members will take place as the national party committee holds the final session of its annual summer meeting, which is being held this year in Chicago.

“We are very excited about Milwaukee,” RNC chair Ronna McDaniel emphasized in a Fox News Digital interview on the eve of the vote.

Milwaukee and Nashville, Tennessee were the final two cities among a large list that were initially in contention to host the 2024 Republican National Convention. However, Tennessee’s capital city fell out of contention on Tuesday night as Nashville’s Metro Council voted down a draft agreement to host the convention.

(RNC/Milwuakee 2024 host committee)

Milwaukee approved its draft resolution in June, and two weeks ago the Republican National Committee’s (RNC) Site Selection Committee — which oversees the 2024 convention planning — recommended Milwaukee over Nashville.

The two national parties often hold their presidential nominating conventions in competitive general election states. While Tennessee is a reliably red state in presidential contests, Wisconsin’s a key battleground.

“It is a purple state,” McDaniel said of Wisconsin. “It is exactly the voters that we are trying to bring into our party, and they have done such a great job. We’re excited not only to elect our future president out of Milwaukee as a Republican, but we’re excited to showcase a wonderful city and a wonderful state.”

Democratic National Committee officials are continuing to visit the cities hoping to host the Democrats’ 2024 presidential nominating convention. The DNC may announce their choice when they hold their annual summer meeting in early September.

DEMOCRATS POSTPONE DECISION ON CHANGING THEIR 2024 PRIMARY CALENDAR

The RNC full membership in April voted unanimously to make no changes to their 2024 presidential nominating calendar, keeping Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina and Nevada as their four early voting states.

The DNC’s in the process of upending their nominating calendar, with the likelihood that Iowa – and possibly New Hampshire – will lose their cherished lead-off spots. Republicans in both states have used the move by the DNC as ammunition against Democrats running for re-election this November in hotly contested showdowns.

(FoxNews)

When asked if the move by the DNC may hurt Democrats in Iowa and New Hampshire, which is a crucial general election battleground state, McDaniel told Fox News “we recognize that there’s a history there, that voters are very in tune. Retail is key to winning the nomination in both of those states… we are very proud to have kept our calendar the same. I hope that people in those states recognize that the Democrats just walked away from their states.”

While the 2024 election is on the agenda at the RNC meeting, on top of many minds is November’s midterms.

Democrats face historical headwinds, as the party that wins the White House and control of Congress traditionally suffers major setbacks in the House and Senate in the ensuing midterm elections. They are also up against a very unfavorable political climate, fueled by record inflation and soaring crime, and symbolized by President Biden’s deeply negative approval ratings.

McDaniel said RNC committee members are “very confident, very excited, even more so when we look at the candidates we have…as we are getting out of these primaries and really coming together to prepare to win in November.”

DEMOCRATS SPENDING MILLIONS THIS WEEK TARGETING GOP NOMINEES OVER ABORTION

However, pointing to the issues of gun violence, following a slate of high-profile mass shootings in recent months, and abortion in the wake of the move by the Supreme Court’s conservative majority to overturn the landmark Roe v. Wade ruling, which sent the issue of abortion regulation back to the states. Democrats see an energized electorate that will help them define the current expectations by political prognosticators.

Signs in favor and against the Kansas Constitutional Amendment On Abortion are displayed outside Kansas 10 Highway on Aug. 1, 2022, in Lenexa, Kansas.

Democrats were further energized by Tuesday’s resounding victory in Kansas by pro-choice activists – in the first ballot box test of legalized abortion since the blockbuster high court ruling.

When asked about the full court press by Democrats to leverage the issue of abortion in the midterms, McDaniel argued “the Democrats have a problem with inflation, with gas prices, with baby formula still missing, with an open border, with the drug crisis. I know they want to make this a big issue but the American people every day, when they go to the grocery store, when they go to the gas pump, realize what Democrat policies are doing to their pocketbook, and pocketbook issues are going to be the number one issue in November.”

Iron ore, coal and LNG drive Australia’s back-to-back record trade surpluses

“This data also highlights, in particular, how Australia has become a world leader in the supply of critical minerals,” Ms King said, which was reflected in lithium exports topping $1 billion for the first time in June.

“Australia’s rich endowment of critical minerals and rare earths will help us and our global partners meet our ambitions to reach net-zero emissions by 2050.”

china trade tensions

The quantity of lithium shipped to the world doubled between January and June, while a huge increase in price over the same period prompted the total export value of the critical mineral to rise 1189 per cent year-on-year.

In the June quarter, total lithium exports were $2.6 billion, up $2.3 billion or 737 per cent from the same period in 2021, according to the ABS, with 99 per cent of exports leaving Western Australia.

Despite ongoing trade tensions between with China, the vast majority of iron ore and lithium shipments flowed to Australia’s largest trading partner.

ANZ head of Australian economics David Plank said the June quarter trade data showed the strong global demand for Australian commodities, in particular coal, which would likely add 1–1.5 percentage points to GDP.

“We’re looking at a pretty healthy contribution for net exports for the June quarter,” Mr Plank said. Strong retail sales volumes over the same period and spending elsewhere was also expected to bolster the outcome.

Australian retail sales volumes rose 1.4 per cent in the June quarter 2022 to reach a record level, the third consecutive quarterly increase in trade. Most of the increase came largely from dining out and apparel retailing.

“It’s shaping up to being pretty strong quarter,” Mr Plank said. “Which perhaps explains why labor employment growth is so strong. We also know we’re going to have a pretty strong GDP figure as well, most likely.”

While noting the GDP figures were looking backwards, the results would highlight the momentum in the economy ANZ believes will prompt the Reserve Bank to push interest rates into restrictive territory above 3 per cent per year’s end to stop inflation becoming a more ingrained problem.

In his economic statement to parliament, Treasurer Jim Chalmers last week downgraded GDP growth in this financial year and the next two; however, he upgraded the outlook for national income, from growth of 10.75 per cent to 11 per cent this year and from 0.5 per cent to 5.25 per cent next year.

RBA Governor Philip Lowe has expressed skepticism about whether the boost to national income with flow more broadly to households and non-mining businesses.

In a speech earlier in the year, the governor said the commodity prices boom was not translating into greater investment like it did in the late-2000s, and both companies and governments were more likely to save the money and pay down debt than push it back into theeconomy.

Record coal, LNG prices

“I think most of this extra national income will flow through to the bottom line in terms of national saving. But I could be wrong,” Dr Lowe said.

After dipping in late 2021, iron ore export values rose steadily to pip $15 billion in June for the first time since August last year. Record coal and liquefied natural gas prices also showed up in the data.

Coal export values slipped 0.6 per cent in June to just below a record $14.4 billion in May, but were still up 360 per cent year-on-year. Exports of other mineral fuels, which reflects LNG exports, also dipped 2.2 per cent from a record $9.5 billion, but were still up more than 100 per cent year-on-year.

ANZ economist Madeline Dunk said lower spot prices in coming months was a risk, as well as China’s push to limit reliance on coal imports and an expectation demand from Australia’s largest iron ore buyer would weaken.

Thermal coal prices steadied near their highs since May, while coke prices moved sharply lower, down about 50 per cent from a May peak, though prices continue to be elevated above long-run trends.

Robust travel recovery

The rise in imports was largely driven by Australians traveling overseas, which rose 13.7 per cent month-on-month, though still remains about 50 per cent below pre-pandemic levels.

NAB economist Taylor Nugent noted imports values were revised sharply higher in recent months, suggesting a much more robust recovery in outbound travel than previously thought.

Commonwealth Bank senior economist Belinda Allen said goods exports would continue to be supported by elevated commodity prices and strong offshore demand.

“The [Reserve Bank’s] commodity price index fell in July, but there is a lot of uncertainty as to movements in spot commodity prices and how this impacts contract pricing and the actual value of exports,” she said.

“The strength of household spending, particularly as interest rates rise, and the housing market slows, will also be an important factor for import demand as will the price of refined petroleum.”
