Fan Fave Bridget Joins Guilty Gear Strive, Comes Out As Trans

EVO 2022 came with an assortment of hype moments over the weekend, including the most incredible “Cell Yell” I’ve heard since dragon ball fighter z‘s first season in 2018. Sprinkled throughout the tournament were a few announcements, too, such as the welcome reveal of rollback netcode for more fighting games. But perhaps most exciting was news that classic fighter Bridget is the next DLC character coming to Guilty Gear Strike. What’s more, in the day or so since, arcade mode footage revealed that Bridget has come out as a trans girl. Talk about a based W!

Bridget was first introduced in 2002’s Guilty Gear XX, presenting as a very cute boy who instantly stole the hearts of fans. Though born as one of two twin boys to a multi-billionaire couple, Bridget’s gender presentation of her was decidedly feminine despite their use of masculine pronouns. (Official reason: convoluted anime bullshit.) However, with Bridget’s official return of her as a playable character in strike as part of the game’s $US25 ($35) Season Pass 2, ArcSys has given them a “come out” moment where they announce they do, in fact, identify as a girl.

An adept yo-yo user, Bridget’s dialogue in strike shows her becoming comfortable in expressing her trans identity, telling deuteragonist Ky Kisuke and US Secretary of Defense (lol) Goldlewis Dickinson that, “[calling me] Cowgirl is fine. Because…I’m a girl!”

Yas, Queen, live your truth! We love to see it. In fact, plenty of folks online celebrated the reveal with fan art and memes. Somebody even created a mod for Bridget that sees them donning the blue, pink, and white colors of the Trans pride flag. It’s cool!

Not everyone was thrilled about Bridget’s trans-ness, though, which shouldn’t come as a surprise in this space. Ready to dismiss their identity wholesale, there are plenty of gross tweets decrying ArcSys giving us an actual trans character in strike. While there’s some nuance to the idea that the studio could be “erasing a character’s previous identity,” as one tweeter put itmost of the negative discourse oscillating around Bridget is framed as bad-faith arguments over grooming.

Kotaku you have reached out to Arc System Works for comment.

The negative response toward Bridget’s coming out is disconcerting to say the least. At a time when the US government is penning legislation aimed at attacking the queer experience, getting representation in the media — especially in games — should be seen as a boon. It reassures folks in our community that it’s OK to be who you are, and how you identify is both accepted and loved. As a nonbinary individual who sees a bit of themselves in the elegant “grim reaper” Testament, strike‘s first enby character, I’m absolutely living for Bridget coming into her own.

Cost of redeveloping Gabba for 2032 Olympics could top $1bn

The Queensland premier has flagged the cost of redeveloping the Gabba for the 2032 Games could increase beyond the proposed $1 billion price tag.

It comes after Annastacia Palaszczuk said she was comfortable with plans for both the Gabba and Brisbane Live after concerns were raised last week additional construction was needed to allow the venues to be built for the 2032 Olympics.

Speaking at a media conference yesterday Ms Palaszczuk said there would be a business case for the Gabba redevelopment, with the government “working through all those issues at the moment”.

When asked how the government had determined the redevelopment would cost $1 billion, Ms Palaszczuk said it was based on cost estimates at the time.

“Of course now we understand that there’s been a lot of increase in … shortages of supply and materials, they’re worldwide issues,” she said.

Should the Gabba be demolished and rebuilt for the Olympics?

When the premier was asked if she anticipated the redevelopment would cost more than $1 billion, she said they do not have the final costs yet.

“But of course we’ll absolutely reveal those to the public,” she said.

Speculation about the size of the Gabba redevelopment has increased in recent weeks with concerns the planned upgrades will impact the local road network including Vulture and Stanley Streets, key thoroughfares through Woolloongabba.

Last week, it was reported a proposal to tunnel under the streets had been put forward but that would significantly increase the $1 billion cost of the Gabba redevelopment.

Meanwhile, the question of East Brisbane State School’s future remains unanswered. The heritage school tucked under the shadow of the Gabba stadium will have to be relocated to make way for the stadium expansion.

Future of income management unclear as the end of the cashless debit card draws near

Legislation to scrap the controversial cashless debit card program looks set to become one of the first bills debated by the new parliament, as the federal government pushes ahead with delivering its election commitments.

While it raises questions for thousands of people on the card, another form of income management in the Northern Territory — affecting more people — could also end shortly: the Basics Card.

So, what does all of this mean for people in communities, who have long had their welfare managed?

What’s happening with cashless welfare?

The cashless debit card trial quarantines up to 80 per cent of a person’s welfare payments, and cannot be used to buy alcohol, gamble or withdraw cash.

DOJ pushes back against Eastman effort to reclaim his cellphone

The filing is the latest except in the department’s increasingly public effort to criminally investigate efforts by Trump and his allies to disrupt the transfer of power and overturn the 2020 election. It’s also the latest indication that the Justice Department considers the Eastman matter a high priority — it has dispatched its top investigators in matters connected to Trump, including Assistant US Attorney Thomas Windom — to litigate the matter. Last month, Windom revealed that the department had obtained a second search warrant for Eastman’s phone to govern matters that might be covered by attorney-client privilege.

Eastman’s demand that the government give his phone back and destroy all any information copied from it would be a “complete purge of the documents from the Government’s investigatory files,” according to the Justice Department, and “would cause substantial detriment to the investigation, as well as seriously impede any grand jury’s use of the seized material in a future charging decision. The law does not support such action.”

Among Eastman’s complaints: The seizure of his phone, for which a search warrant was obtained, was effectuated by the Justice Department’s inspector general, which typically investigates wrongdoing by department employees. Eastman, on the other hand, is a private attorney. But the department said his argument was simply incorrect. The inspector general has authority to pursue evidence from private parties if it relates to potential “criminal wrongdoing that adversely affects the Department.”

“As a matter of common sense, he is incorrect: an investigation of wrongdoing by one individual routinely involves obtaining evidence from others, particularly in cases involving conspiracies,” Dohrmann writes.

Eastman had also alleged his Fifth Amendment rights were violated when the FBI agents made him unlock his phone with facial recognition, but the Justice Department said the warrant had permitted agents to “obtain a physical characteristic of the movant,” like Eastman’s face, “using their independent knowledge as to what characteristic would be relevant for accessing the seized device.”

The department’s most pointed retort to Eastman came over his complaint that he was not presented with the search warrant prior to having his phone seized.

“In the movant’s professorial view, he should have been provided a copy of the warrant prior to its execution, and then apparently given time (minutes? hours?) to read and analyze it so that he ‘would have been able to call the officer’s attention to the several constitutional infirmities evident on the face of the warrant, thus preventing the unconstitutional seizure in the first place,’” DOJ noted, “all while agents stood in a parking lot, in an open-carry state, knowing that the movant was authorized to carry a concealed weapon.”

Radeon RX 7000 promises more power… in exchange for more consumption

The next generation of graphics from NVIDIA and AMD Radeon promises to provide a significant improvement in performance (if the forecasts are true), but in Exchange for significantly increasing energy consumption. This obviously collides with increasingly prohibitive energy prices, so we’ll see if it pays off for companies to follow this strategy.

Last month we reported an NVIDIA AD102 chip, belonging to the Ada Lovelace generation, with a consumption of between 600 and 800 watts. The fact that the chip was mentioned and not the graphics card left the door open for it to be not the RTX 4090 Ti, but the next generation of the TITAN line. It seems AMD would have chosen to follow a similar path with its future RX 7000, which will be based on the RDNA 3 graphics architecture.

According to the YouTube channel RedGamingTech, the team responsible for Radeon would have increased the Total Graphics power (TGP) of the high-end Navi 31 chip from 375 to 405 watts, which represents an increase of 8%. But seeing the context in which we live, the AMD graphics division would have another more efficient SKU ready with a TGP of 375 watts.

On the other hand, RedGamingTech has published what would be the specifications of the presumed flagship SKU of the future generation of Radeon, which would have 84 compute units (CUs) or 42 workgroup processors (WGPs) and its name points to be 7950 XT instead of 7900XT. This information collides with others that mentioned 60 WPG or 120 CU, but even so a remarkable evolution is expected thanks to the fact that, at least in some models, the number of SIMD32 for each computing unit will rise from two to four.

The memory subsystem is another promising point of RX 7000. Thanks to an alleged deep review, V-cache would be added to the cocktail of technologies for increase the amount of Infinity Cache from 128 to 384 megabytesan improvement that would be triple in quantitative terms if fulfilled.

The improvements that Radeon’s RX 7000 line would introduce, if true, would result in that generation’s top-of-the-range graphics card doubling the performance offered by the RX 6950 XT. But you know, with these songs, as long as there is no release and many benchmarks to compare, it is better to take all these data with tweezers.

If AMD manages to comply with its roadmap, the RX 7000 graphics should start to see the light from the fourth quarter of 2022. NVIDIA is also around, but the green giant seems that it would only launch the RTX 4090 for this year, its Ti variant or both, to later roll out the rest of the Ada Lovelace catalog during the course of 2023.

Why it will be a challenge for “dangerous” Tigers to do “damage” in finals

Can Richmond actually make an impact in this year’s finals series?

The Tigers have been spoken about as a team who might just be able to do some damage if they happen to make the top eight.

Damien Hardwick’s side managed to return to eighth spot with an impressive 38-point win over Port Adelaide in Adelaide on Saturday night.

The result came after the 10th-placed Western Bulldogs had been beaten by Fremantle and on the same night St Kilda, who were holding eighth, fell to Geelong.

With the Tigers now the keepers of their own destiny with two home and away fixtures remaining, the question was asked – Can they win the flag? (Provided they make the finals, of course).

Nathan Buckley and Garry Lyon discussed the Tigers on SEN Breakfast and what they may or may not be capable of.

Buckley believes the 2017, 2019 and 2020 premieres will make the eight given they play Hawthorn and Essendon in Round 22 and 23.

“I think of the balance of it now, they will get there,” Buckley said.

“Can they do any damage at all?”

While Lyon acknowledges how good the Tigers have been, he says injuries to Dylan Grimes and Nick Vlastuin, as well as the ongoing absence of Dustin Martin, will make it difficult for them to seriously contend.

He says while there are good signs through the form of Shai Bolton and Tom Lynch, overall it will be an extremely tricky task for Richmond to make a serious dent in the finals.

“I think they’ve been one of the teams of the last half-century, but I think it’s going to be a challenge for them,” Lyon said.

“You lose Grimes from that group and if Vlastuin doesn’t play, Martin’s out of the side, of course it’s going to test you.

“It’s tested to the fact that they can keep coming up and Bolton is stepping into Dustin’s shoes. Whenever they need a lift he’s able to give them something.

“Tom Lynch the last few weeks reminds you of how good a player he is.

“Of course they’re a dangerous, dangerous floater, but can they win it? I think that the injuries might just take a toll.”

Buckley likes what he sees of the regeneration on the run which is occurring under Hardwick, citing the impact of lesser known players such as Ben Miller, Tyler Sonsie, Jack Ross and Noah Cumberland, among others.

“What about some of these names – Miller, Sonsie, Ross, who has been a fringe player for a while, Cumberland, who has come in of late,” Buckley added.

“They’ve got a lot of young players who are coming in and playing roles nearly above and beyond their time.”

Lyon said: “It’s going to hold them in great stead beyond this year.”

Buckley continued, highlighting the absence of Kane Lambert, who along with superstar Martin, have helped take Richmond to the next level across the last handful of seasons.

“I love what Richmond has been able to do this year. They rewired early,” he said further.

“Lambert and Martin, that one-two punch, was as important as any one-two punch over the last five years. To win their flags, those guys were as pivotal as any.

“They’ve done really well to be in this position. I still think their best footy actually really challenges.

“It’s just whether they can do it for four quarters consistently enough against the best opposition.”

Lyon added: “I think that’s absolutely fair but can they win four finals and take them to a premiership?”

Buckley: “I think that’s a stretch but can they win a final or two?”

Lyon: “Yeah of course they could, given their pedigree and the players that they will have available.

“It’s what makes the anticipation of this final series so real.”

The Tigers next meet the Hawks at the MCG this Sunday.

Canberra to get a full-time surgical service for gynecological cancers

Jane Harriss has been fighting for a permanent surgical service for gynecological cancers in Canberra for almost two decades — with good reason.

“My mother was diagnosed with ovarian cancer some years ago and she died with it, after having survived for seven years,” Ms Harriss said.

“She was one of those people, who had to go to Sydney for her surgery.”

The metastasising cancer saw Ms Hariss’s mum, Erica, make three trips to Sydney for separate surgeries, with follow-up appointments in Canberra, through a fortnightly clinic provided as a fly-in-fly-out service by Sydney’s Royal Hospital for Women.

Work is now under way to remove that travel requirement and deliver the capital’s first permanent gyneacological surgery service.

“Canberra Health Services has just been working through what the model of care will look like, what supports will be required to ensure that that can occur,” ACT Health Minister Rachel Stephen-Smith said.

The FIFO service has faced an uncertain future for months, since the surgeon announced he would be retiring at the end of the year and Canberra-based doctor, Leon Foster, put his hand up to run a permanent clinic if funding was found.

At a media conference on June 17, Ms Stephen-Smith suggested funding was not the issue.

“It’s more a question of assessing when the number of people that are having to travel interstate is actually sufficient that we can bring that service into the ACT,” she said at the time.

But on Monday, she confirmed Canberra Health Services had advertised for a full-time specialist surgeon and a “merit-based recruitment process” was required.

‘They had to travel when they were very ill’

Ms Harriss said the progress was “better late than never” and every woman she’ had met through her ovarian cancer support group had been frustrated over the absence of a permanent Canberra clinic.

“They had to travel when they were, effectively, very ill — because it’s diagnosed late-stage,” she said.

“And then they’d have to return home, within about 10 days of having massive abdominal surgery. And they would have to do this a number of times, potentially.”

Ms Harriss said she was pleased the government had chosen “to go down this path”.

“It’s wonderful in terms of women who are currently dealing with the disease and for those who potentially might be diagnosed in the future,” she said.

“It will make life … not easier, but a little bit less stressful.”

Member of GOP leadership says IRS could ‘bully the middle class,’ target conservatives, if Manchin bill passes

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

The chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) fired back against President Biden over a provision in the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 that would spend billions of dollars to hire thousands of new IRS agents, and cautioned that the new bureaucrats could be used to target conservative groups.

If passed, tens of billions of dollars from the bill would go toward hiring 87,000 new Internal Revenue Service (IRS) agents. The bill passed in the Senate on Sunday with Vice President Kamala Harris casting the tiebreaking vote. It now heads to the House for a likely vote at the end of the week.

“Joe Biden is building an army of IRS agents to harass and bully the middle class. It’s something that should concern every American taxpayer. The IRS targeted conservatives during the Obama Administration, so it’s fair to wonder whether Joe Biden will use his new IRS Army to attack conservatives,” said NRCC chairman, Rep. Tom Emmer, R-Minn., in an exclusive statement provided to Fox News Digital.

REPUBLICANS SAY DEMOCRATS WILL ‘PAY THE PRICE’ IN MIDTERMS FOR PASSING MASSIVE SPENDING BILL

Emmer, who according to Politico is rumored to be in the running for House GOP Whip, may have reason to sound the alarm over IRS targeting if Republicans retake the House in November. In 2013, the tax collection agency was accused of delaying and adding extra scrutiny to the processing of nonprofit tax status applications of conservative organizations. After a two-year investigation by the FBI, the Department of Justice announced it declined to seek criminal charges related to the case.

DEMOCRATS’ INFLATION REDUCTION ACT IS ‘ECONOMIC MALPRACTICE’: ECONOMIST

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, DN.Y., and Sen. Joe Manchin, DW.Va., introduced the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 after months of negotiations. In addition to new IRS agents, the bill spends hundreds or billions of dollars on a litany of Democratic Party spending priorities such as climate change and green energy.

Despite the name of the bill, it’s unclear if the legislation will have any meaningful impact on inflation reduction.

The Joint Committee on Taxation (JCT) reported that Americans making under $400,000 a year would have their taxes increased as a result of the act. The committee also concluded that the new bill would increase tax revenue by $16.7 billion on Americans earning less than $200,000 a year.

Sen. Bernie Sanders agreed with Republicans that the new bill would have little impact on inflation.

Sen. Bernie Sanders agreed with Republicans that the new bill would have little impact on inflation.

While speaking on the Senate floor prior to the vote, Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., referred to the bill as the “so-called” Inflation Reduction Act, and acknowledged that it would have “minimal impact” on reducing inflation.

Singapore F1 track to be playable map in new Call of Duty game

F1 in recent years has enjoyed a boom in popularity thanks largely to Netflix’s fly-on-the-wall docuseries Drive to Survive, which has ushered in a legion of new fans to the racing series.

As a result, numerous Hollywood films about F1 are said to be in development, while the series now has a wider mainstream platform.

This popularity has also filtered through to F1’s Esports platforms, with more gamers getting involved in the yearly F1 releases from Codemasters and EA.

In F1’s latest move into the mainstream, Call of Duty developers Infinity Ward revealed on Sunday night that the Marina Bay Circuit in Singapore will be a playable six vs six-player map in its next game Modern Warfare 2.

While the full game is released on 28 October on Playstation and Xbox consoles, as well as PC, the first Beta trial for the game launches on Playstation for early access pre-orders on 16-17 September – where players can get their first taste of the map.

Ahead of the game’s release, all players on all platforms can experience the map in the final open beta on 24-26 September.

In a video teaser released by Infinity Ward, it appears as if the map will cover parts of Marina Bay’s pitlane and paddock complex – though no actual F1 branding is present in the clip, suggesting no partnership has been made with the series.

A brief statement from Infinity Ward on the new F1-inspired map read: “The Modern Warfare II Beta is set to feature a robust multiplayer experience going beyond the Core 6v6 experience with a variety of meticulously designed maps of various sizes, and an equally impressive set of Modes, Progression experiences, and other aspects that will be more thoroughly revealed at Call of Duty: Next.

“In addition, we revealed a fly-through of Marina Bay Grand Prix, where combat occurs within the main infield of an urban race circuit, one of the 6v6 Multiplayer maps confirmed for the Beta.”

This isn’t the first time motorsport and Call of Duty have collided.

Seven-time F1 world champion Lewis Hamilton appeared as a non-playable character in 2016’s Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, while at the Valencia Grand Prix in 2013 and 2014, three-time MotoGP world champion Jorge Lorenzo ran special helmet designs for Call of Duty: Ghosts and Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare.

This year’s Singapore Grand Prix will take place on 2 October, and will mark F1’s first visit to the country since the COVID-19 pandemic began two years ago.

It was previously revealed that Kylie ‘didn’t want to overshadow’ the current cast of Neighbors during its finale episode.

Following criticism from fans that she only uttered two lines, producer and writer Jason Herbison explained that her appearance was ‘always going to be small’.

He said: ‘Our discussions with Jason and Kylie were always about making a small appearance. They didn’t want to overshadow the current cast or make the finale about them.’

Kylie joined the cast of Neighbors in 1986 but left the series in 1988 to embark on a pop career and went on to enjoy decades of chart success with hits such as I Should Be So Lucky, and Can’t Get You out of My Head and even teamed up with then boyfriend Jason to release chart-topper Especially For You in 1989, which could be heard playing as the on-screen couple made their return to Ramsay Street in the finale.

Herbison went on to explain that Kylie and Jason’s scenes were shot before he had even written the episode and ‘hates’ to see the Spinning Around legend facing backlash.

He told TV Tonight: ‘We also filmed their scenes before I’d written the episode, so whatever we filmed had to fit in with that. I hate to see Kylie coping any criticism – she was nothing short of amazing on the day.’

Neighbors initially aired on BBC One from 1986 until 2008 before being shown on Channel 5 and the soap relied on funding from the British network but in February 2022, the broadcaster confirmed they were to focus on UK drama instead.
