SECURITY-WIDEFIELD, Colo. (KDVR) – The family of a woman who was found dead in a front yard in unincorporated El Paso County has identified her as Alexandra Rachelle Mittig.
Mittig was one of three people killed after sheriff’s deputies were called to the home on Ponderosa Drive where shots were being fired.
The neighborhood is in an area south of Colorado Springs called Security-Widefield.
Investigators said John Paz is being investigated for killing Mittig and El Paso County Sheriff’s Deputy Andrew Peery. Paz reportedly died of a self-inflicted wound.
Mittig’s mother Rosetta Kelley said, “He shot and killed my baby. She was a wonderful, wonderful girl who loved animals. She was in the home stretch of becoming a vet tech. She went to Colorado State’s Vet Program. She was a Marine and she was an officer in the Marine Corps.”
Court records show Paz and Mittig were married and had filed for a divorce.
“She was a very happy, happy child. She liked camping, hiking and of course animals of any kind. Reptiles you name it,” Mittg’s mother added.
What led up to Mittig’s death and the shooting is not clear.
Her official name has not been released by the medical examiner.
The Colorado Springs Police Department is now leading the investigation into the shooting.

What Is The Wind Waker Rewritten?
As pointed out by Kotaku AU, The Wind Waker Rewritten adds 10,000 new lines of dialogue to completely reimagine every character. The project’s video reminds us that there’s nothing new in terms of level design or gameplay. Instead, The Wind Waker Rewritten does exactly what it says on the tin and completely reimagines the game’s story.
Rewritten is the work of aproxm and does add a few textures and cinematics. The description explains, “Experience the Great Sea in an entirely new and unprecedented way with The Legend of Zelda: the Wind Waker Rewritten, a romhack that takes the dialogue from the original Gamecube classic and rewrites it from front to back to tell an entirely different , unique story within the same framework of the game you know and love.”
There’s a lot to unpack in the four-minute trailer, with highlights including Beedle saying, “Holy sh*t, I love customers,” or what about the King of the Red Lions being a bounty hunter? It’s sure to be a popular mod, and one fan cheered, “I don’t normally play anything outside of early pokémon games when it comes to ROM files, but this I actually need to give a go, wind waker was a good chunk of my childhood so this would be a great way to reexperience it.”
Will We Get A Wind Waker Remaster?
Not that we needed any more reason to love The Wind Wakerbut now, Rewritten is imploring us to go back and try it all over again. Sadly, it’s a case of downloading ROMs or dusting off your GameCube if you want to play the underrated Zelda classic. There’s no sign of a proper remake/remaster from Nintendo. Although we had The Wind Waker HDIn 2013 for the Wii U, gamers have been asking for a new-gen release that would finally bring it to the Nintendo Switch.
We’ve already seen Nintendo make bank with Skyward Sword HDand in the nine years since The Wind Waker HD, a lot has changed in terms of technology. While we’ve heard a lot about a mythical new-gen Wind WakerNintendo bosses seem reluctant to take a leaf out of Capcom’s book with the resident Evil remasters. With Zelda back in the limelight next year thanks to Breath of the Wild 2Nintendo will hopefully turn its attention to Toon Link.
West Coast star Tim Kelly has failed in his bid to have a one-game suspension downgraded at the AFL Tribunal and will miss Saturday’s western derby against Fremantle.
Kelly was cited for engaging in rough conduct against Adelaide’s Sam Berry during Sunday’s clash at Optus Stadium.
His dangerous tackle was assessed as careless conduct, medium impact and high contact, resulting in the offer of a one-game suspension.
West Coast lawyer David Grace QC said the club agreed Kelly’s tackle was careless but the Eagle did everything possible to protect his opponent.
Kelly pinned Berry’s right arm in the tackle and spun his body as he took him to ground, but Grace said the lack of injury or treatment required for Berry meant the incident was the “epitome of low impact.”
“He got up straight away and took a free kick,” Grace said.
But AFL counsel Andrew Woods pointed to AFL guidelines stating that a lack of injury should not prevent impact from being rated higher given that the potential to cause injury can be taken into account.
He described the level of head high contact with the ground as significant.
He said there was clearly a risk of concussion or a serious neck injury.
Kelly said the pair’s weight shifted when Berry attempted to kick the ball and that it contributed to them spinning during the tackle. Kelly conceded Berry was in a vulnerable position and that he increased the level of force when taking him to ground.

But Kelly said the Crow had his left arm free during the tackle and used it to brace for contact.
“My intention was not to cause any harm to my opponent,” Kelly said.
“It didn’t look like there was much impact at all. He got straight up and took his free kick and played out the rest of the game.
“My intention is to tackle him and try to disrupt him. I’m trying not to give him an opportunity to get rid of the ball. I know he’s doing everything he can to get his foot from him to the ball. I’m trying my best to not allow him to make that kick.”
The court disagreed.
“The key issue was the potential to cause injury,” court chairman Jeff Gleeson said.
“We consider here the potential was significant. Mr Berry was swung a full 360 degrees with force, his feet were off the ground and that arm that might have protected him was pinned. His head hit the ground with considerable force.
“We found the impact was medium.”
Kelly won the Glendinning-Allan Medal in western derby 52 after a dominant performance where he won 42 possessions and 13 clearances.
Kelly had 26 disposals and won seven clearances against Adelaide.
Police said Helen Coulston, 45, opened her front door to a man allegedly known to her before being stabbed at her Dover Heights doorstep on Monday afternoon.
Her husband, Walt Coulston, said his wife is doing as “well as you can expect” as she remains in hospital with a severe chest wound.

Coulston spoke to 9News as he was returning home to his children with lunch.
“I’ve got to go give the kids lunch, sushi, they love it,” he said.
He only agreed to speak about the incident after asking a journalist where her jacket was from.
“I have to ask you where you got your jacket from everyone likes it, it’s obviously the most important thing happening, so if you tell me that, I’ll tell you something,” he said.
Coulston said the incident was “a bit weird” as the accused is allegedly known to the family.
“Could you imagine the person who was the best man at your wedding and the godfather to your daughter doing that?” Coulston said.

A man has since been charged with causing wounding or grievous bodily harm with intent to murder.
He was refused bail and will face court today.

CHICAGO (WLS) — Hours after Chicago Police Superintendent David Brown said he plans to move officers from desk duty and other non-patrol units to the CTA, there was another violent incident that left a teenager shot.
Crime tape surrounded the 79th Street Red Line station for the second time in three days Monday after, police say, a 17-year-old boy was critically hurt during a gun battle right outside the station.
The shooting comes as more cops are being added to the transit system after the fatal weekend shooting of 29-year-olds Dinte Moona father of an 8-year-old girl.
He was shot while onboard a Red Line train at the same 79th Street station.
Police are now looking for two men in connection with the murder.
Surveillance video clearly shows both men wanted by police.
Early Tuesday morning, a man, who is about 40 years old, was riding the CTA Red Line in the 1500-block of North Clybourn Avenue when a male suspect reached for his bag, police said.
The suspect took the bag, but police were able to locate him, according to CPD.
No one was injured, and charges are pending in the incident that took place about 3:30 am near the typically busy North Avenue and Clybourn shopping district.
To beef up staffing, the CTA is bringing back K-9 security teams that were removed in 2019, and CPD is reassigning officers from desk duty and specialized units.
“It makes me scared, very scared to even take the train,” CTA rider Charles Rowan said.
Though CTA-related crime is below pre-pandemic levels, ridership is about half of what it was in 2019.
So far this year, crime is up 33% compared to last year, with nearly 600 batteries reported — almost three a day.
It’s been a while since Elden Ring saw any love, but patch 1.06 is here. There’s not much in the way of new additions, though notably the update means you can now do co-op or invasions in multiple places at once in addition to having larger invasion area. There’s also a new mysterious NPC who is supposed to help you advance Varre’s questline without wading into multiplayer at all, though in typical FromSoftware fashion no word on where to find this useful fellow. Still, the update is an enormous one, at least when it comes to gameplay tweaks.
The much-reviled Bloodhound Step, an Ash of War which allows you to dodge attacks at high speeds while becoming invisible, has been tuned down so that the more you use it, the less effective it is. Bloodhound Step does also go further when you’re light on equipment, but it seems that FromSoftware has touched nearly everything to do with low carry loads. You can now roll farther when you’re not carrying much, for example. Still, the Bloodhound Step nerf is pretty huge news for anyone who partakes in multiplayer. Recently in a poll of 10,000 players, the oft-used skill was one of the most-cited reasons for believing that the multiplayer was broken and unbalanced.
And you can believe players are happy about this: nearly every reply under the Twitter announcement celebrates Bloodhound’s demise.
One of the other hugely-requested changes is a Corpse Piler downturn. Corpse Piler is the skill attached to the popular Rivers of Blood weapon, where the player swings the sword into an “X” shape that leaves behind a trail of blood. If the enemy gets hit by the trail or the actual weapon, it will cause damage, blood stabbing buildup, and fire damage to boot. Now though, the trail of blood left behind isn’t as effective as before, with less damage and bleed doled out on-hit. The actual blade also does less damage, but only slightly so, according to the patch notes. That seems fair, really.

Unfortunately, the Astrologer fave Glintstone Pebble now does decreased damage but it does go farther than before. The spell didn’t do a ton of damage, but it could be doled out quickly at a low FP cost, and it made horseback witchcraft a hell of a lot easier, too. Despite finding a wide variety of more powerful spells, I had the Pebble equipped for maybe 75% of my playthrough.
“Bonk” players should be pretty happy as well, because the patch makes Greatswords and Great Hammers a hell of a lot better. If you wield bonk, you can now roll faster after attacking, charge attacks happen faster and axes are speedier outright.

The All Blacks have had a good, hard look in the mirror after their Mbombela misfire, and some of the reflections have been decidedly unpleasant – never mind their coach’s bizarre post-game positivity.
Backup No 10 Richie Mo’unga, who may be required for starting duty depending on selection whims and Beauden Barrett’s health, spoke on Monday in Johannesburg about unacceptable basic errors digging them a hole in the Rugby Championship opener last weekend, while midfielder David Havili says the players have to take more accountability around executing under the relentless Springboks pressure.
There is a lot to fix after the 26-10 defeat at Mbombela Stadium – the worst against the Boks in 94 years, and the team’s fifth loss in the last six tests – and just a week to get it done, with the rematch at Ellis Park, here in the Highveld, early Sunday (NZ time).
The All Blacks, looked at one of their worst funks in the professional era, made some improvements in Mbombela in the wake of their historic Irish series defeat, but they were marginal. Their maul defense was better, as was the lineout, and there were flashes of attacking spark amid an otherwise disappointing evening. But they were bossed at the breakdown, struggled to cope with the Boks’ renowned bomb squad and looked bereft of ideas in the face of the home rush defence.
The review, Mo’unga confirmed, had matched their immediate thoughts when they trudged off after an electric night in Mbombela.
“There were a lot of opportunities left out there, and it just confirmed how good this South African team is, and how they’re able to build so much pressure, and put teams into a cycle that’s hard to get out of… set piece , round the corner, penalties and shots at goal,” he said.

The adjustment, said Mo’unga, was strictly physical. “It’s just skill error. You don’t have to be in the right frame of mind to catch a ball, or to complete your job, or to do the basics well. Not executing put us under pressure and into a cycle that South Africa rugby do so well.”

Mo’unga admitted to a degree of concern that the same sort of errors were cropping up. “It is frustrating it’s the same errors – it’s not frustrating that the intent, care and effort is there. We’re all trying our best. But they call them test matches for a reason. They test you mentally, and they test your skill.
“But at this level you have to learn and adapt and if you don’t, you’re going to keep coming off second best which we have the last couple of games.”
In terms of why these basic errors are occurring in highly capable rugby players, Mo’unga had no doubt about the root of the problem.
“It’s pressure. Pressure can do that to you – scoreboard pressure, all sorts. This is test match rugby where you can’t execute the most basic skills for a lot of reasons. What I will say is we’re so close. Close isn’t good enough at the moment, but we’re looking to build on the missed opportunities last week.”
Havili was a little more circumspect, though that was probably a personality thing. He’s a man who chooses his words from him carefully, and he was in that mode as the All Blacks launched preparations for what is a must-win encounter – for championship prospects, and their coach’s slim hopes of survival.
“The effort was there – we’re trying bloody hard,” he said. “It’s just a few things that aren’t sticking and when they do I know we’ll get back on the horse.

“We’re creating opportunities, just not executing at the right time. It’s taking accountability and making sure we execute that stuff under pressure, understanding where we need to be at the right time, and taking those short passes.”
Havili, like his Crusaders mate, feels a breakout display is close. “The Boks did a great job of starving us of ball and putting us under pressure. We’re working on that this week.”
In terms of the lack of impact in midfield this year, Havili felt it came down to one important factor. “We’re not setting deep enough, but they’re doing a great job of taking our time and space away. There’s a lot of good stuff we took out of the review and are looking to implement this week.
“We’re trying our best, and so is the coaching staff. It’s not clicking at the moment but our effort is there, we’re creating chances and now we’ve just got to take them.”

The Porsche driver who filmed the aftermath of the Eastern Freeway crash that killed four police officers allegedly attached graphic photos of their dying moments to an online financial complaint after an insurance company rejected his $2.2 million claim over the tragedy.
A police officer told Sunshine Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday she felt “angry and outraged” after seeing an online post containing an image of the aftermath of the Kew crash that killed four colleagues on April 22, 2020. Another witness said he felt repulsed and sickened when he saw similar photos.
Richard Pusey has pleaded not guilty to four charges.
Richard Pusey was previously jailed for outraging public decency for filming the dying officers in the moments after they were hit by a truck. They had pulled Pusey over for speeding in his black Porsche.
Leading Senior Constable Lynette Taylor, Senior Constable Kevin King and Constables Glen Humphris and Josh Prestney were killed when Mohinder Singh’s truck veered into the emergency lane and hit them, while Pusey was at the side of the road. Singh was jailed for 22 years.
Prosecutors now allege Pusey included photographs with an online complaint he lodged with the Australian Financial Complaints Authority on November 25 last year and with a Google review he allegedly posted about Porsche Center Melbourne on February 7.
Pusey, 44, has pleaded not guilty to two charges of using a carriage service to cause offense and two of offending while on bail. The former mortgage broker sat in the dock behind glass on Tuesday, flanked by two custody officers, and represented himself on the first day of his contested hearing.

Prosecutor Anthony Albore told magistrate Michelle Mykytowycz that Pusey sought $2.2 million from insurers for his damaged Porsche, but his claim was rejected in March last year.
Eight months later, the court heard, Pusey attached four graphic photos to an online complaint with the Australian Financial Complaints Authority, which investigates disputes with financial firms.

The White House says he used the act to take “decisive actions” that “continue to deliver results.”
On his first full day in office, President Joe Biden took advantage of a special, wartime power to supercharge the US pandemic response, using a tool he would return to multiple times throughout his presidency.
In an executive order citing authority under the Defense Production Act, the new president directed his administration to secure masks, tests and other equipment in short supply. Biden soon ordered a 100-day White House review of American industry that concluded the act was a “powerful tool” that could be deployed beyond the pandemic and traditional military use.
Eumundi residents have thrown their support behind a proposed new supermarket which would mean they don’t have to travel to neighboring towns to buy groceries.
More than 150 public submissions were made to the Sunshine Coast Council during the public notification period.
Most of the respondents were in favor of the development at the southern gateway to town on Memorial Drive.
It includes a service station and retail center comprising a limited line supermarket, 272sqm of specialty retail and 76 car spaces.
Resident Joe Bowden, who has lived in Eumundi his whole life, said in his submission that the town “desperately needs” a supermarket and service station.
“We believe something similar should have been built as much as 30 years ago,” wrote Mr Bowden.
“I believe it would be better if SCC could do its best to speed up the process. The sooner this is built the sooner we can stop traveling to other towns for the same services.”
Another local Brian Esplin wrote that he currently has to drive to Noosaville or Cooroy to find a shop with a “good range of supplies at a fair price”.
“I understand from many friends and neighbors that there is broad community support for this proposal,” he wrote.
However some residents like Andrew Hillhouse are opposed to what he said would be a “small expensive boutique convenience store that does not supply the full range of needs”.
“The development supermarket and specialty shops will compete directly with the small amount of retail that currently exists in the main street, further eroding the usefulness and viability of the main street and the locally owned businesses,” he wrote.
The supermarket is proposed by Altum Property Group. Group director Alex Rigby said the town was “calling out” for basic infrastructure such as a supermarket.
“Many other hinterland towns now have their own supermarket and Eumundi residents feel that they have been left off the strategic planning map and combined with the rising cost of living, they are hopeful that Sunshine Coast Council support this supermarket application,” said Mr Rigby.
“We have already addressed most of the objections which were submitted and while our application acknowledges there are some non-compliances with various planning scheme provisions, we believe it also includes relevant matters which justifies an approval from council.

“We are now waiting for council to review and consider the submission which is due to conclude on August 9.
“Then council has 25 days to assess and decide the application, however, during this stage council has the ability to issue a Further Advice Notice to raise any outstanding issues required to be addressed before the application can be decided.
“There’s still a way to go but we are confident our design and planning is appropriate for the area and we are also buoyed by the positive sentiment received from a wide variety of locals,” said Mr Rigby.
