Random: Masahiro Sakurai Reminds Nintendo Fans About 3DS & Wii U eShop Closure Dates

as you probably know by now, Nintendo is discontinuing the 3DS and Wii U eShop as of 28th March 2023. And later this month on 29th Augustyou’ll no longer be able to add eShop card funds (aka points) to accounts.

This is happening worldwide, and as a result – Nintendo fans around the globe are grabbing certain digital titles before the deadline. Even the Super Smash Bros. director Masahiro Sakurai is making the most of these digital shops while he still can.

Here’s a rough translation of his most recent social media post (via Google translate) – essentially reminding fellow 3DS and Wii U users of the closure:

“In a little over two weeks, you won’t be able to add points to 3DS and Wii U…I’m patrolling the e-shop thinking it’s my last chance. Because of the touch panel, there are probably many things that won’t be ported to other models.”

Unfortunately, he didn’t specify if he made any purchases, but as he noted – a lot of the games using these systems’ touch screens, might not necessarily get ported to other platforms in the future. We can’t imagine he is thrilled about older Super Smash Bros. DLC being retired, either.

The 3DS and Wii U eShops aren’t the only things coming to an end – with Sakurai announcing earlier this month that he was almost out of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate screenshots.

You can learn more about the upcoming eShop closures in some of our previous posts. It’s worth noting the sales of Fire Emblem Fates will end on 28th March 2023 and its DLC is available until 27th March 2023.

Learn more about Nintendo’s 3DS & Wii U eShop closure:

Are you making the most of your time with these eShops, like Sakurai is? Any specific games you’ll be picking up before it’s too late? How do you feel about the whole closure at this point? Leave your thoughts down below.

Random: Yes, Someone Really Had A Waluigi Bachelorette Party, And It’s Amazing

Waluigi Mario Strikers Battle League Rose In Mouth

Here’s something that probably won’t surprise Waluigi fans (at least we think!) — Waluigi has gone viral on TikTok. But not for the reasons you might think.

Last week, Emily Yates — Cherrie Sorbet on TikTok — shared a video on TikTok that showed seven different people dressed up as Waluigi. The reason? It was for a bachelorette party — or a hen night, for those of us in the UK. Yes, really, a Waluigi bachelorette party. Did you know there are seven different variations of Waluigi? We didn’t until this.

After the video took the internet by storm, Yates spoke to Kotaku about how she came up with the idea. Yates wanted to do something chaotic for her party, but she did not want to copy anyone else. Yates settled on Waluigi because he’s “just a lanky being of pure chaotic energy”, and we couldn’t agree more. We’re actually a little more surprised that a Waluigi party hasn’t happened before, but Yates has likely started a trend off with her own.

Of course, it’s all well and good throwing the party, but getting people to attend and participate was a whole other thing. To convince people to join in, she put together a PowerPoint Presentation—classic! And even though some of her friends and her family were confused, she still managed to get seven people (originally nine, but two people had to drop out) to join in!

You can check out all seven costumes in the video below, where each Waluigi tries to guess which one will have one too many drinks. That should give you an idea of how the party went!

Of these seven “wah-sonas”, Yates was Elvis Waluigi. Yep. And the bride-to-be made her her own costume from scratch — which she will potentially share more videos of on TikTok in the future. But she doesn’t plan to wear the costume down the aisle. However, she’s been delighted by the response the video has received over on Twitter.

Our favorite Waluigi has to be Cult Waluigi — can you imagine the spiritual chaos he’d cause if this was a real variant? Nintendo, take note.

Tell us what your favorite Waluigi variant is in the comments!

Random: We’re Really Jealous Of This French Pre-Order Bonus For Pokémon Scarlet & Violet

Pokemon Starter Trio Figures
Image: The Pokémon Company / Micromania-Zing / Nintendo Life

We admit it, we’re suckers for a really nice pre-order bonus. Especially when it comes to figurines. And with Pokémon Scarlet & Violet coming out this November, we’re eager to see just what kind of bonuses or gifts will be on offer from various retailers.

So far, we only know about a few digital gifts — such as an exclusive backpack and that cute little Pikachu who’s Terastral form means he gets balloons! — but Nintendo Wire has discovered that French retailer Micromania-Zing is already ahead of the pack with this lovely physical pre-order bonus.

This exclusive pre-order bonus is a little figurine of all three of generation 9’s starters — Sprigatito, Fuecoco, and Quaxley. It’s really rather lovely, and we really rather want it.

You’ll get this trio if you pre-order either Scarlet, Violet, or the Double Pack from Micromania-Zing. So, if you love it and you live in France, there’s no reason not to!

Here in the UK, we sometimes get figurine pre-order bonuses for Pokémon games too, and maybe this will head our way too (if it does, we’ll be sure to tell you), but for now, we’ll have to admire this from a distance.

If you haven’t already, make sure you check out our list of everywhere you can pre-order the upcoming Pokémon games.

Do you like this pre-order bonus as much as we do? Do you hope a retailer near you gets something like this? Let us know in the comments!

Random: Rejoice! Mario Kart 8 Deluxe’s Coconut Mall Has Been ‘Fixed’

Coconut Mall Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
Image: Nintendo

Wave 2 of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe’s Booster Course Pass might have just dropped. But wait, stop your engines. Why not go and check out Coconut Mall before diving into the new courses?

Why would you want to do that, you ask? Well, Nintendo might have brought in Wave 2 today, but it’s also confirmed that it’s updated one of the courses that came in Wave 1.

In both the Wii version and the Mario Kart Tour version of this fan-favorite track, there are cars towards the end of the course that can drive into your character and knock you out. A bit unsporting, but it became pretty iconic. You could shove opponents into them, and it made for a little twisty, turny driving towards the end of a lap. This wasn’t present when Coconut Mall debuted in Deluxe in March, and lots of fans weren’t happy about it:

But Nintendo has taken note, and alongside these new courses, the Big N has gone back and updated the course to make those Shy Guys drive those cars! You go, Shy Guys. We believe you can hit all of our foes.

They don’t move in exactly the same pattern that they have done in previous versions, but we’re pleased that Nintendo has gone back and updated this track with this much-requested feature.

We’ll add that one back into the rotation then!

How do you feel about this fix? Are you happy that the cars in Coconut Mall move again? Let us know!

Random: Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Has Plenty Of Very Memeable Dialogue

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Eunie
Image: Nintendo / Monolith Soft

If you’re a long-standing Xenoblade series fan, then you’re probably used to hearing the same lines of dialogue over and over again, whether it’s post-battle, or when opening a chest or gathering items.

Xenoblade Chronicles has a few of these — who can forget “I’m really feeling it?” from Shulk, something we constantly abuse here at Nintendo Life when we’re covering Xenoblade news. And “Now it’s Reyn time” has also entered the pantheon of video game memes. Xenoblade Chronicles 2 had even more, including a couple of lines — “Think you can take me?” and “Don’t forget me”—that were edited in a patch.

So what does Xenoblade Chronicles 3, the latest entry in the series, add to the hall of Xenoblade quotes? Well, here’s one you’ll be hearing a lot of.

Eunie, a Keves soldier and the team’s Medic Gunner, has one post-battle quip that we’ve certainly heard a fair amount of — especially this writer. Ina lovely, think British accent, Eunie — after ally Lanz says “That was over way too soon!” — declare “Hear that, Noah? Lanz wants something a bit meatier.” It’s like poetry. Except this is a JRPG where you fight a lot of battles, so you’re going to be hearing it pretty much constantly throughout your playtime.

The frequency of Eunie’s little quote has got fans reminiscing about their favorite Xenoblade quotes, even blending them together to create some memes for the ages.

Of course, Eunie isn’t the only character who has something to say. Sena, Agnus’s tiny little hammer-wielder, is a cheery, pleasant little kid who’s determined to let you know something about herself:

This one’s quite cute, honestly. Sena’s pretty small and she’s usually carrying around a huge weapon. She loves training and sparring. So she’s just trying to amp herself up a bit!

Going back to Lanz, if you keep him as one of the Defender classes, he’ll be trying to keep aggro off of the other party members. So you’ll be hearing plenty of this from him:

He’s also the MVP, but you were probably already thinking that.

The frequency of some of these quotes has been drawing a lot of attention from people playing the game, with some — including Xenoblade YouTuber Enel — thinking there should be more dialogue just to drown out some of the more-common quotes. Perhaps we’ll see a Xenoblade Chronicles 2-style patch in the future?

For now, we’ll have to bask in the frequency, glory, joy — whatever you want to call it — of JRPG battle and field quotes in Xenoblade Chronicles 3. You won’t be forgetting these any time soon.

In fact, for Xenoblade Chronicles on the Wii, the developers had to cut out some battle dialogue. Did You Know Gaming? revealed this in a video published this weekend, where the channel also brought up changes to one particular cutscene involving protagonist Shulk.

If we were to pick our own Nintendo Life quote, it’s got to be “Hello there lovely people” hasn’t it? Anyway, if you’re a Xenoblade fan, share your favorite Xenoblade field and battle quotes with us in the comments!

University professor fired after police charge him for murder of student

ATLANTA (CBS46/Gray News) – A university in Georgia fired a professor after police said the man was arrested for the murder of a student early Saturday morning.

The Carrollton Police Department said 47-year-old Richard Sigman is charged with murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

The charges come after police say 18-year-old Anna Jones showed up to a hospital with a gunshot wound on July 30 just before 12:30 am

Investigators said preliminary information indicates that the former professor and another man got into a verbal argument at a restaurant, WGCL reported.

The man reportedly told police Sigman had threatened to shoot him. When security approached Sigman, they saw he had a weapon and told him to leave.

The investigation indicates Sigman then walked into the parking lot and began shooting into a parked vehicle, hitting Jones, who was inside.

The University of West Georgia President Brendan Kelly released the following statement saying in part:

“On behalf of the university, we wish to convey our deepest condolences to Anna’s family and many friends. We know this news is difficult to process and affects many members of our university community. We ask that you keep Anna’s family, friends, and all who have been touched by this tragedy in your thoughts during this tremendously difficult time.”

According to police, friends of Jones immediately drove her to the hospital where she later died.

Jones had recently graduated from Mount Zion High School, the school’s Facebook page says, and had planned to go to the University of West Georgia.

Ethan Lepard, a friend of Jones, said she was a sweet, caring girl and that he “will miss her forever.”

“There are so many good qualities, no one could list them all,” he said. “She was always so positive, and she was an amazing friend to everyone.”

The university is offering counseling and support services to all students, faculty and staff. Resources can be found at westga.edu/wellness.

Students can also call the UWG Counseling Center 24/7 by dialing 678-839-6428 and selecting option 2.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to contact the Carrollton Police Department at 770-834-4451.
