Halo Infinite’s next update releases next week, and it’s bringing cross-core visor customization

What you need to know

  • 343 Industries has confirmed that Halo Infinite’s August “Drop Pod” update is releasing on Aug. 9 on Xbox and PC.
  • The update is bringing several customization improvements, including the release of cross-core visor customization and a wider range of helmet and helmet attachment combinations.
  • Additionally, the patch will also add Ranked and Team Doubles to the game, as well as the groundwork for Region Select matchmaking that will be activated in a future update. Players will be able to see what challenges they have while in the pause menu, too.

In a new preview blog on Halo Waypoint, 343 Industries has announced that Halo Infinite’s August “Drop Pod” update is slated to go live next week on Aug. 9. The update includes several improvements to Halo Infinite’s customization system, as well as some new matchmaking options and a quality-of-life addition to the pause menu UI.

The highlight of the update is that once it launches, cross-core viewer customization will be unlocked for all players. This means that fans will be able to use any visor color that they’ve unlocked across all five of Halo Infinite’s armor cores, giving them significantly more options for visor customization on each core than what was available beforehand. This is a great first step towards cross-core customization at large, and hopefully the developers have plans to make other cosmetics, such as helmets, armor pieces, and armor attachments, usable cross-core in future updates.

The August Drop Pod is also making it possible for players to equip their Mark VII helmet attachments on a variety of Mark VII helmets that weren’t compatible with them previously. while not every attachment will be usable with every helmet combination since “certains could have clipping or large gaps,” players will overall have significantly more options to choose from.

Woman bleeding in truck, yelling for help called a ‘total accident’ by police

South Brunswick police have ruled out criminal activity Friday after a witness on Wednesday reported seeing a woman bleeding from the face and yelling for help in a tractor-trailer cab on Route 130.

The case “appears to be a total accident,” said Jim Ryan, the deputy chief of the South Brunswick Police Department.

Early reports from officials said the truck driver pulled the woman back into the tractor-trailer cab Wednesday afternoon. The driver then traveled on Route 130 South before exiting at Ridge Road, police said.

Police found the woman and the truck driver together late in the afternoon on Thursday, officials said. Both agreed to come to police headquarters. Ryan said police ruled out foul play after speaking with both the driver and the woman.

Ryan said the woman and man are a married couple in their 50s. The man, who was driving the truck, stopped short when a car merged in front of them, he said.

This caused the woman, who was standing in between the cab and the sleeper, to fall forward and hit her head on a cupholder. She began bleeding and calling for help, Ryan said.

He added that the husband pulled over to the shoulder of the road. When the husband saw her bleeding, he pulled her back into the truck and drove her to get her medical attention.

“He doesn’t even realize that the witness reports that it is even there,” Ryan said. “He was n’t even aware that anyone even saw the interaction between him and his wife of him.”

Police received tips from across the country after asking for help from the public through social media, officials said.

The woman received medical care and has a bandage on her head, Ryan said. “We’ve ruled out any criminal activity,” he added.

Activision Making More Off Phone Games Than Console And PC

A solider with a rifle stands near a large, brown orc and both are in front of a screenshot of Candy Crush.

picture: Activision / Blizzard / King / Kotaku

Here’s a sign of the times: Activision has confirmed via newly released financial documents that it made more money on its phone games last quarter than it did on all of its console and PC games combined.

As spotted by tweaktown, Activision’s quarterly report was published last week and sheds some light on how its biggest games across PC, console, and mobile are doing financially. And because of games like Devil Immortal, Call of Duty Mobileand Candy Crush Sagathe beleaguered Call of Duty publisher’s making a lot of cash off phone games. In fact, more than half of its total earnings for the second quarter of 2022 came from mobile titles and not console or PC games.

According to the report, about 51 percent of Activision’s total earnings from the Q2 2022 period came from mobile games. That adds up to a total of $831 million in mobile game earnings. Meanwhile, its console games earned around $376 million and PC games brought in a bit less, $332 million. Finally, it made $105 million from events and esports.

What you might not expect, especially if you don’t realize how massive mobile gaming has become over the last decade, is that of the $831 million made off phone games, most of it came from King’s titles and not stuff like Call of Duty Mobile. In the report, Activision says that King titles like candy crush and FarmHeroes brought in over $680 million.

What these numbers reveal is that for big publishers like Activision, the future is likely one where it invests even more resources and money into mobile games and focuses less and less on console games. In an era where AAA games are more expensive to make than ever, take years to createand often flop, mobile games have become a lifeline for large game companies looking to keep their heads above water.

For Activision it’s especially important as Call of Duty continues to lose millions of players and underperform. Seeing as the company has spent years focusing much of its energy on Call of Dutyat one point even having every studio it owned working on the franchise in some capacity—it’s likely it will seek to diversify into mobile more, not less, moving forward.

It should also be noted that Activision’s hugely successful mobile games are one of the main reasons Microsoft began the process of buying the company earlier this year following a huge, public fallout after the company was sued over years of sexual harassment and discrimination.

in some way, Call of Duty and warcraft are more like bonuses that Xbox gets top of King and his money-printing games.

Joy Behar comment made Meghan McCain quit The View

Meghan McCain revealed that Joy Behar served as the ultimate catalyst to quit The View.

The former morning show co-host explained on The Commentary Magazine Podcast on Thursday that Behar’s response to her returning from maternity leave in January 2021 after giving birth to her daughter, Liberty, made her realize the job was not worth it.

“I finally went back to the show, and the day I went back to the show, Joy Behar said on air, ‘Nobody missed you, we didn’t miss you, you shouldn’t have come back,’” McCain, 37 , recalled.

“And I just… I started hysterically crying. Sorry gentlemen, I know, I started lactating on air, and I started crying.”

McCain said she went back to her office and threw up before calling her brother, who convinced her to leave the ABC talk show.

“I didn’t feel supported when I had my baby, and I didn’t feel supported coming back, and that was ultimately it,” she added. “That was why I left!”

Since leaving in July 2021, the conservative personality has been vocal about her negative experience on the show, especially when it came to Behar, 79, and Whoopi Goldberg.

“The thing about Whoopi, though, is that she yields so much power in culture and television, and once she turns on you, it can create unfathomable tension at the table,” McCain said in her audio memoir, Bad Republican.

“I found her open disdain for me more and more difficult to manage as the years went on and it became more frequent. Occasionally, if the show’s political discourse veered into territory that she found disagreeable, Whoopi would cut me off, sometimes harshly.”

Alyssa Farah Griffin and Ana Navarro have just been announced as McCain’s replacements on The View.

Saturday Horse Racing Tips & Best Bets [Flemington, Randwick & more]

Check out our tips and best bets for racing at Flemington, Randwick, Doomben, Murray Bridge and Belmont for the action on Saturday, August 6.

READ: Weekend war chest – Latest news and punting intel
READ: Insights from Bjorn Baker, Paul Snowden and more

READ: Insights from Tommy Berry, Billy Egan

BEST BETS

Flemington R1 No.4 Berkeley Square

It’s hard to go around the favorite Berkeley Square (4) after his eye-catching debut. He did n’t help himself at the start there and his momentum was also halted at a critical stage at the business end. He’s drawn to advantage in barrier 3 and Craig Williams should give him every favor in the run. The only knock for me is he may be over bet due to the blackbook hype.

Berkeley Square

Craig Williams (59kg)
Dan O’Sullivan
3yoG (b) Territories x Bahamas

Randwick R4 No.13 Conqueror

Keen on Conqueror (13), with the three-year-old taking on the older horses here early in the season. He’s had just the one start, in a midweek maiden on the Kenso, but it proved to be a strong maiden. He won by 0.43L over Seven Veils with Dashing Legend in third. Those two ran the quinella in the G2 Reisling at their next start. Meanwhile, She’s Extreme was in fourth, going on to win at G1 level later in the autumn. Conqueror has trialled very nicely heading into his return from him.

Conqueror

William Pike (53kg)
Chris Waller
3yoC (br) Churchill x Dixie Chick

Doomben R5 No.4 Ocean Treaty

I blackbooked Ocean Treaty (4) last start after her narrow defeat here in a Benchmark 85 when resuming. She has trialled since and last preparation won second-up here over this trip beating Stardome. Ben Thompson rode her on that occasion and only needs to do something similar here to get the prize.

Ocean Treaty

Ben Thompson (56kg)
Steven O’Dea & Matthew Hoysted
6yoM (b) Ocean Park x Striker

Murray Bridge R5 No.2 Reckoning

Been knocking on the door in stronger races across the border and looks perfectly placed here. Drawn well and claim helps.

Reckoning

Ben Price (59.5kg)
Nick Ryan
6yoG (b/br) Domesday x New Sensation

BEST VALUE

Flemington R6 No. 1 – Countofmontecristo

Veteran Singaporean import Countofmontecristo (1) hasn’t won for a long time but there’s been some encouraging signs in recent runs. He’s drawn ideally, he gets in well after Logan McNeil’s 3kg claim and SA trainer Travis Doudle has had some success in recent raids. If he can settle a little closer I think he could run into the finish and Flemington should suit.

countofmontecristo

Logan McNeil (61kg)
Travis Doudle
9yoG (b) Echoes of Heaven x Replicate

Randwick R9 No. 7 – Soffika

Import Soffika (7) should be ready to show her best third-up at a mile after two runs over seven furlongs. She was beaten 3.49L last start at W’Farm on a Heavy 10, but hit the line pretty well under 61kg.

sofia

Tim Clark (55kg)
Richard & Will Freeman
5yoM (b) Zoffany x Rosika

Doomben R8 No.10 Boomtown Lass

Chris Anderson has found the right race for BOOMTOWN LASS (10) which was cluttered up at Eagle Farm and always goes better at Doomben. From a good gate Steph Thornton can pick her position from her and be hard to get past in the straight.

Boomtown Lass

Mrs Stephanie Thornton (53kg)
Chris Anderson
7yoM (b) Spirit of Boom x Boomalicious

Murray Bridge Race 1 No.14 Pretty Reliable @ $13

Debutant for the Alexander stable with Vorster booked, and showed enough in a jump-out last month to warrant being up to this race.

Pretty Reliable

Barend Vorster (55.5kg)
Gary & Dean Alexander
3yoF (b/br) Reliable Man x Avec Joie

Woman seen bloodied, yelling in NJ semi-truck found safe after 26-hour search

The search for a woman who was allegedly seen bleeding from the face and yelling for help in a white tractor-trailer cab in New Jersey has been found safe after a 26-hour manhunt, police announced Thursday evening.

A search was launched Wednesday afternoon after a witness reported seeing the woman bleeding and the man driving the truck pull her back into the cab around 2 pm on Route 130, heading towards the Ridge Road exit, South Brunswick Township police said.

Authorities released footage of the incident, pleading for tips on locating the truck.

The woman and the man in the incident were tracked down at 5:10 pm Thursday, police announced, and said the case was not as sinister as it initially seemed.

The pair was identified as a married couple in their 50s, Deputy Chief Jim Ryan told NBC News.

It turned out the woman was bleeding after hitting her head in the vehicle and in a panic attempted to get out through the window, and her husband sped off in the truck to get help, Ryan said.

Authorities said they received tips from around the country but the break in the case came from Gabrielli Truck Sales, a truck dealership located on Route 130 near where the incident took place, police said.

The business recovered video that allowed detectives to identify the truck and the female inside.

Authorities searched in Middlesex and Union counties for the white truck and detectives observed a man matching the witness description and leaving the truck in question and approached him.

Detectives also found the woman in the video at the same location.

Both agreed to go to the police headquarters and speak with detectives.

That’s when police learned the husband “stopped short” in the vehicle and his wife “fell forward and hit her head,” Ryan said.

“He pulled to the shoulder of the road when he saw she hit her head. She saw blood coming and she immediately panicked because she thought it was very bad so she was yelling for help and wanted to put pressure on it. When he stopped the truck and looked over and saw the bleeding he realized he had to take off to get help,” Ryan said.

“He never saw the witness or realized there was anyone who had seen the encounter,” Ryan added.

He said the wife’s bleeding eventually stopped and the couple ended up going to a local Rite Aid to get a bandage for her.

Ryan said when detectives found the couple they could see visible injury on the woman and she had a bandage on the side of her head.

Ryan said they also recovered video from inside the truck to confirm the couple’s account. He called finding the couple like “finding a needle in a haystack.” Tip calls came in from Texas, California, and Washington and police received help from the FBI.

“So often our stories are sad and tragic, and this one has a positive outcome because so many people got involved quickly and we found the answers,” Ryan said.

Chief Raymond Hayducka praised finding the couple as a “great team effort, from the community providing tips to detectives tracking down leads.”

“It was an exhaustive 26 hours, but we were able to locate the woman and make sure she was safe,” Hayducka said.

August Drop Pod Preview | Halo

Arriving next Tuesday, August 9, our next Drop Pod will focus on improving the player experience on multiple fronts. This update is set to expand each player’s customization options, include QoL improvements, and will lay the groundwork for even more community-requested features.

Let’s take a look at what’s inside!

live

VISORS WILL NOW WORK ON ALL CORES

At present, there are a multitude of viewers in the game split across the 5 armor cores. If you’ve wanted to use the shiny gold Noble visor (which has hitherto been locked to the Mark V [B] armor core) to complete your look on any of your other cores, you’ll be able to make that happen when the August Drop Pod lands.

What this means is that all visors that are currently in the game, and all future visors to come, will work across all helmets from all armor cores.

To Mark V [B] Spartan with a bright yellow visor stands in the Armor Hall.
EAGLESTRIKE’S Night Wisp visor on a Mark V [B] helmet.
A Yoroi Spartan with a gold visor stands in the Armor Hall.
RAKSHASA’s Athena’s Mirror visor on a YOROI helmet.

MARK VII HELMET ATTACHMENTS

Continuing with the theme of improving customization options, this Drop Pod will also allow for certain Mark VII helmet attachments to be worn across multiple Mark VII helmets.

This is a response to player feedback we’ve seen requesting an expansion of the compatibility of Mark VII helmet attachments. Naturally, this move came with some complexities because most helmet attachments for the Mark VII core are designed to fit a specific helmet, but some happen to also fit well on other Mark VII helmets.

The Live Team took some time with our Artists to find out which helmet attachments look best and fit without clipping awkwardly or having large holes. Since certain combinations could have clipping or large gaps, not every Mark VII helmet will be able to use every helmet attachment – but the total number of options has been greatly increased.

If you’ve already unlocked these helmets and helmet attachments, they will automatically be usable. If you unlock them in the future, all the possible combinations will be unlocked for you. There will not be a need to unlock them on a per-use basis.

A full list of the helmet and helmet attachment combinations will be included in the Drop Pod patch notes when it goes live.

A Mark VII Spartan stands in the Armor Hall while wearing a helmet attachment..
Soldier helmet attachment on a Rampart helmet.
Mark V [B]’s Stalwart visor on a Mark VII helmet.
A Mark VII Spartan stands in the Armor Hall while wearing a helmet attachment.
Warmaster helmet attachment on Firefall helmet.
RAKSHASA’s Sapphire Front visor on a Mark VII helmet.

MULTIPLAYER

ADDITIONAL RANKED PLAYLISTS

On the multiplayer experience front, this update will make it easier for us to implement more Ranked playlists moving forward. Kicking things off will be Ranked Doubles, which is set to land two weeks after the Drop Pod’s release – along with a CSR reset. Additionally, a social Team Doubles playlist will be accompanying Ranked Doubles on its launch day, meaning Halo Infinite will be getting twice the 2v2 fun.

We’ll monitor the health of Ranked Doubles and all our playlists after its addition to the matchmaking lineup. If all playlists continue to perform as expected, we’ll keep these additions and continue experimenting with adding more Ranked playlists in the future.

Two Spartans holding BRs stand at the ready.

REGION SELECT GROUNDWORK

In the opening of this blog, we mentioned that we were laying some groundwork for the future as well. While there is no player-facing change here fair yet, this Drop Pod does contain a lot of the groundwork required to turn Region Select on in the future. This would allow players to select between all searching across all regions (faster search times) or their local region (better pings).

This feature is still some time away, but players may spot some of the backend work that has been done to start putting things in place. We’ll have more to share about Region Select as we get closer to its launch.

PRESENTATION

CHALLENGES ON THE PAUSE MENU

With this Drop Pod release, your active Challenges will be viewable while in a match on the pause menu. We know it’s helpful to be able to quickly glance at your active Challenges (as well as their descriptions) at any given time during a match, so we’re very happy to get this implemented.

A screenshot of the pause menu, which shows Challenges on the right side.
Note: This placeholder text is not indicative of future Challenges.

Please note: this screen will not show the exact numbers (remaining or total) for your Challenges just yet. Since Challenges currently update at the end of a match, we chose not to display the numbers intentionally to avoid any confusion around not seeing them update in real-time. We are working to make it so Challenges do tick during a match, but we wanted to get this helpful first step out to all of you since it was ready.

As always, we’ll have the full patch notes available on the Halo Support site (aka.ms/HaloInfiniteUpdate) when the update is released.

Thank you for your continued feedback on our Waypoint Forums, Twitter, Reddit, and more as we keep pushing to make Halo Infinite the best experience it can be. We look forward to seeing you online when the Drop Pod lands next Tuesday, August 9!

NBA 2022: LeBron James, Bronny James, NBL, where will Bronny play? Los Angeles Lakers

The NBL welcomed the Ball show, and now could have a realistic shot at the Bronny show.

According to a report from The Athletic, LeBron James’ eldest son, Bronny, will choose between college, the G League Ignite, and Australia’s NBL for the 2023 season after high school.

Watch Live & Free Coverage of The 2022 NBL1 Championship Season on Kayo Freebies. Join now, no credit card required >

While LeBron plots the final few years of his career, eligible for an extension in Los Angeles, the one thing that’s become clear is that the future Hall of Famer wants — more than anything — to play with his son in the NBA.

Bronny, 17, will become draft eligible in 2024, leaving the door open to be drafted by whichever team LeBron is playing on, or a brave franchise willing to go against the King’s wishes.

In discussing LeBron’s future, The Athletic’s Joe Vardon referenced Bronny’s options, including the NBL in a sneaky nugget that will have Australian basketball fans excited.

“Bronny, in the fall of 2023, will either be in college, with G League Ignite or in Australia … or wherever Rich Paul places him,” Vardon wrote.

Bronny is a 6’3 point guard, ranked 39th on ESPN’s top 100 recruitment rankings.

“There’s only one city that’s big enough for LeBron and Bronny, and that’s Sydney,” Sydney Kings owner Paul Smith told the Sydney Morning Herald in March.

“We’d fill 18,000 seats every week.”

With LaMelo Ball and Josh Giddey, among others, proving Australia can provide the perfect platform for the NBA, the NBL will likely be mapping out a plan to convince Bronny and LeBron that it’s the right move in his development.

James, who is entering the final year of his contract with the Lakers, met with team vice president and general manager Rob Pelinka to discuss his future with Los Angeles, according to ESPN’s Dave McMenamin.

The two sides had what was ended as a productive discussion, James’ agent and CEO of Klutch Sports Rich Paul told ESPN. A new deal has yet to be reached, however.

GOP Senate candidate won’t back Trump in 2024: ‘I hope he doesn’t run’

The Republican nominee for Senate in Colorado said on “The Ross Kaminsky Show” on Friday that he hopes neither President Biden nor former President Trump runs for president in 2024.

“As far as Trump’s concerned, I hope he doesn’t run,” Joe O’Dea said on the radio program. “I don’t want to see him as president.”

O’Dea continued: “I think a lot of people are ready to move our country forward. So I wouldn’t support him running again.”

The construction company executive sharply criticized Biden as well, calling him “the worst president we’ve ever had.”

“Look, I don’t think Biden should run for president, and he’s senile,” said O’Dea. “We’re done with that.”

O’Dea, who will run against incumbent Sen. Michael Bennet (D) in November, advanced from his primary election on June 28 with a victory against Trump-aligned Ron Hanks.

Hanks was present near the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, leading up to the deadly attack on the building in protest of Biden’s 2020 election win, though he reportedly did not participate in the insurrection.

O’Dea disagreed with him on the integrity of the 2020 election, saying that Biden had won fairly.

O’Dea voiced support for potential 2024 GOP presidential candidates such as Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott and former US Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley.

“There’s a lot of great talent out there. We need to move this country forward,” O’Dea said of the Republican figures, adding: “I think that seeing a Biden-Trump rematch again in 2024 would rip the country apart.”

The nominee had previously indicated that he would vote for Trump if he was opposing Biden, saying that “if Donald Trump happens to be the Republican nominee, then I definitely won’t vote for Biden.”
