Potential RTX 4070 Ti could match RTX 3090 Ti in terms of performance
The rumored specs for RTX 4070 with 7168 CUDA cores and 10GB memory on a 160-bit bus may seem underwhelming to some GPU enthusiasts. But such configuration is already capable of competing with NVIDIA’s high-end RTX 3090 GPU in 3DMark TimeSpy, at least that’s according to hardware leaker Kopite7kimi. However, the limited bandwidth may still become a bottleneck in some instances.
As it turns out, NVIDIA is already preparing a full variant of AD104 GPU, featuring 7680 cores and 12GB memory across a 192-bit memory bus. Such configuration would allegedly provide matching performance to the RTX 3090 Ti, the flagship Ampere desktop GPU which debuted in March this year. With a wider memory bus and faster memory, such a variant would have 40% higher memory bandwidth (360 → 504 GB/s) than RTX 4070.
As I have mentioned before, there is an AD104 SKU with a 400W limit.
PG141-SKU331
a full-fat AD104 with 7680FP32
21Gbps 12G GDDR6X
It can easily match RTX 3090 Ti.— kopite7kimi (@kopite7kimi) August 1, 2022
More cores and faster memory would come at a cost of higher power consumption. It is said that PG141/SKU331 power draw reaches 400W, so 100W higher than RTX 4070’s (300W). It is too early to put a name on this configuration, but if RTX 3070 Ti with full GA104 GPU was any lesson for us – this should be the RTX 4070 Ti.
Thus far seven different RTX 40/ADA configurations were mentioned by Kopite7kimi and other leakers. This is the latest list with updated specs:
