I’m the opposite of Pretty Woman. People think I’m obscenely wealthy | Bridget Delaney

EITHERne day I was running early for an appointment, and with 15 minutes to spare I spontaneously walked into a house that was open for inspection. It looked unassuming from the street but inside it was spectacular. Each room was generously portioned and flooded with light. Just being in the house seemed to elevate my mood, and make me feel clear and calm. But the most amazing thing was the outlook. It was on the harbour, with views that went right out to Manly. And not only that – it had two swimming pools, one that sat invitingly just outside the patio, decked with expensive furniture, while the second was at the garden’s edge – a harbor pool.

A real estate agent materialized by my side as I marveled at an en suite bigger than my flat. His name was Tom and his hushed tone was that of a confidant, a consigliere: “Is n’t it incredible?”

I felt trapped and self-conscious, like an intruder – a class intruder – and I did something dumb. I pretended that the house was of no interest to me because it was too small. Affecting my best Melbourne private school accent (that is, I spoke entirely through my nose, without opening my mouth at all) I replied: “I was after something bigger, but well done, yes, well done on the interiors.”

I sounded like a whale in distress. My cheeks were getting red from trying to direct the words out my nose. wow!! I had to get out!! I turned on my heels and left with what I hoped was a convincing hauteur. On the street I burst out laughing. Rich people are absurd, I thought. Two swimming pools!

I assumed that would be the end of it, but having given my phone number for contact tracing purposes, the agent called me regularly over the next two weeks.

Sometimes it took a while for the penny to drop and I’d be speaking normally, through my mouth, my mind whirling – Tom? Tom? That is until he started talking about other properties I might like – ones with six bedrooms, a boathouse, a private jetty, a tennis court, two tennis courts! Homes bigger than the tiny box I had seen at the open for inspection. Homes that were $10m, $11m, $12m. My heart would sink as I honked through my nose, “Oh Tom, sounds fabulous but …” I was travelling, my husband was away, I was indisposed, and then there was Covid, Covid, Covid, Covid. All the while Tom was lovely, just wanting me to be happy, to find a truly enormous, gigantic luxury house to call my own. I sat there feeling miserable. I wanted to correct him, but it just felt so awkward. I had left it too late! I was trapped in a lie.

Part of my reluctance to expose my true self stemmed from a humiliating encounter on the 35th floor of a big Melbourne bank, about a decade ago.

I was a broke freelancer doing a story for a financial services magazine about private bankers. Who were they? And who were their clients? I was ushered into an inner sanctum where everything was not just marginally better than the public banking spaces – but phenomenally better, like a boutique five-star hotel. There were even butlers!

After the interview concluded, the banker indicated that I should see myself out. On the way to the lift I saw about a dozen people milling around. Cake! A seminar or talk had just finished and people were standing around in pairs or alone eating petit fours.

I was hungry. I seized my chance. I took a cake. A butler asked me if I wanted coffee. This was living!

My reverie was interrupted by an older gentleman, impeccably dressed – a light gray suit with a faint pinstripe, tie in a Windsor knot. We engaged in small talk, but the feeling coming from him was absolute attention, a sort of rapt engagement in my observations on the weather, the paintings, the cake. I was loving it! We skated lightly from one topic to the next, as he maneuvered me towards a comfortable chair. Seated, I have leaned even closer and gazed at me as if I was the most fascinating person on Earth. I drunk it in. At one point, seeing that my plate was empty, he motioned for the butler to bring me another coffee, another plate of cakes.

Maybe 20 minutes passed this way until I asked him what he was doing here. I have worked here. He was one of the private bankers. Then something slipped, his impeccable benevolent mask of him. What was Yo doing here? I have asked. Relaxed in his company I told him I was a freelance journalist, doing a story on private banking and… I stopped. We both stopped. A mutual moment of cognitive reorganization. A sort of horror passed quickly across his face, an expression strong enough to curdle the coffee in my stomach.

“A journalist?”

He didn’t have to say it but I knew. He had thought I was a high net worth individual. A client of the bank. Rich. He said journalist the way other people said murderer.

With a different voice now, he told me I should leave – that this was for clients only. My cheeks burned as I walked to the elevator.

Remember that famous scene in Pretty Woman where the shop assistant thought Julia Roberts was poor and treated her dismissively?

Well here, the banker and the real estate agent thought I was rich and were treating me like a princess. I was a reverse Pretty Woman. I was Ugly Woman! (or in a true reverse, Ugly Man… ??)

Now every time the phone rang I started feeling ill. I tensed up whenever I saw a real estate sandwich board on the street, advertising an open house.

Then the calls stopped for almost a year. But just last week Tom rang again. And again it took me a while to place him. He asked if I’d found anywhere suitable to live. “I like where I am,” I said, looking around my rented two-and-a-half room apartment, before realizing it was him, Tom. He wanted to sell me another harborside mansion. This one I would love. He could show me through tomorrow, a private viewing. I could get first dibs.

I closed my eyes for a moment and felt the tug of fate. Surely it would be the easiest thing just to drift along into the natural conclusion of this misunderstanding – go to the house, say through my nose, “Oh Tom, it’s perfect, it’s just darling” and then agree to buy the house (a steal at $15m!) and somehow end up in an even more absurd situation than the one I was already in. I would buy the mansion in order not to make us feel awkward, in order to be polite.

And that of course, ironically, was my class giveaway. Only a middle-class person would go to such lengths to avoid embarrassment.

McQuarrie, Cruise Plan Post-M:I-8 Re-Team

Mcquarrie Cruise Plan Post Mi 8 Re Team
Paramount Pictures

Both writer/director Christopher McQuarrie and actor/producer Tom Cruise are hard at work filming “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two” right now. That hasn’t stopped them from making future plans though.

Speaking on the newest episode of the Light the Fuse podcast (via The Wrap), McQuarrie confirmed he is far from done working with Cruise with the pair already planning a post-‘Mission’ film together:

“It’s kind of under wraps. It has neither a fuse nor a fuselage. Oh that’s not true. It does have some fuselages. It’s something we’ve talked about for a really long time.

It’s way outside of what you’re used to seeing Tom do. It’s the kind of stuff I really love. It’s a little bit more in my wheelhouse. And yet it takes everything we’ve learned on this journey, which is making movies more and more about emotion and real emotional experiences.

That’s what you’re feeling when you’re watching ‘Top Gun’ – it’s me and Tom squeezing your adrenals for every emotion. Now we’re applying that to something that is gnarlier.”

McQuarrie and Cruise have been working colleagues for years now, the pair working in some capacity together on four “Mission Impossible” films, “Jack Reacher,” “Top Gun: Maverick,” “The Mummy,” “Edge of Tomorrow,” and “Valkyrie”.

The pair will be seen again on screens in 2023 and 2024 with the release of the two “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning” films.

Marvel Just Cast the MCU’s First Non-Binary Actor

Marvel Studios has put a renewed focus on providing more representation in its projects across theaters and on Disney+. Studio president Kevin Feige has publicly confirmed on numerous occasions that the MCU intends to expand in this area, and the franchise is taking small steps forward in that regard for the Multiverse saga.

Phase 4’s final movie, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, will reportedly put Danai Gurira’s General Okoye into a same-sex relationship as the Wakandans find their own place in the world. Additionally, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness Xochitl Gomez’s America Chavez gave her long-awaited MCU debut, fully telling her story even though it got the movie banned in some countries around the world.

Rumors have even pointed to Marvel looking to cast its first non-binary character in next year’s iron heart, more representation of previously under-represented groups of people. Now, that news has been made official thanks to news surrounding the latest addition to the cast of this highly-anticipated Disney+ show.

Ironheart Casts MCU’s First Non-Binary Actor

shea coulee

Deadline revealed that Shea Couleé will join the cast of Marvel Studios’ iron heartwhich is set to release in Fall 2023.

The star’s addition to the Disney+ series makes them the first non-binary actor to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe under Marvel Studios.

Couleé was a recent winner on RuPaul’s Drag Race, although their role in the series is currently being kept under wraps. They responded to the news on Twittersharing how excited they are “to be part of this amazing project” with Marvel Studios:

“BEYOND excited to be strutting out of the Werkroom right into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Words cannot express how excited I am to be a part of this amazing project! Acting was my first love, and I’m thrilled to be doing it again in such a big way!”

Couleé also took to Instagram to celebrate the announcement, noting how much they wanted to act is something they’ve always to do even before getting into the world of Drag:

“I’m trying to find the words to express the deep excitement I feel about this project. Acting was my first love long before Drag. So it only seems fitting to end my Drag Race journey and begin my acting career in the biggest way I could imagine. Stepping into the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been like stepping into OZ. ‘Ironheart’ is top to bottom going to be an absolutely STUNNING experience for the viewers, and I’m so humbled everyday that I get to work on set with some of the best and most dedicated artists in the industry. Thank you to everyone who has supported me throughout my journey, and I look forward to sharing the exciting new chapter with you all”

Marvel Making Progress with Representation

With only a couple of acting credits to their name thus far, iron heart will unquestionably be Shea Couleé’s breakout project after making a name for themselves on RuPaul’s Drag Race. The big question now is what specific role they will play, especially alongside such an impressive cast of co-stars backing up Dominique Thorne’s leading heroine.

Solo: A Star Wars Story‘s Alden Ehrenreich will take on his first MCU project after working with Lucasfilm, and In The Heights‘Anthony Ramos is set to reportedly make the first of numerous Marvel appearances in iron heart as well. With Couleé now bringing their own talents to the equation, iron heart should bring that same level of quality in its cast that fans have come to expect from the MCU over the years.

Filming for iron heart will continue over the next few months before its Fall 2023 release date, which falls directly between the marvels in July and Blade in November. While there may not be much more information about Couleé’s role or any other details about the cast before the end of the year, anticipation is building to see this MCU’s newest young heroine fully evolve into a power player.

iron heart is set to debut on Disney+ in Fall 2023.

Queen Elizabeth’s heartbreak as her childhood friend dies, aged 97

The Queen has been dealt another devastating blow with the loss of a close childhood friend just months after the death of her husband Prince Philip.

Lady Myra Butter, a cousin to the Duke of Edinburgh, was a childhood friend of the Queen and part of her inner circle. She died aged 97 in her London home de ella on July 29, according to a death notice published in UK newspaper The Daily Telegraph.

speaking to The Telegraph In 2021, Lady Butter revealed how she first came to know the Queen as a child and opened up about their time together in the 1st Buckingham Palace Company of Girl Guides, when it launched in 1937.

“(Buckingham Palace) got hold of some girls to be part of the thing to make it more fun,” she said.

“In the Guides and the Brownies it was a real mixture, which was really nice, some friends, friends of (the family), and all the people in the Royal mews, their children, they were Brownies and Guides. Just a normal sort of pack really.”

According to the article, the Queen also used to swim with Lady Butter, who once described the monarch as having a “very good sense of humor which has gone on for all her life”.

Lady Butter was born in Edinburgh in 1925 to Sir Harold Wernher and the great-great granddaughter of Russia’s Nicholas I, Countess Anastasia “Zia” Torby.

Her death notice read: “Myra Alice, Lady (CVO) died peacefully on Friday 29th July 2022 in London aged 97. Beloved wife of the late Major Sir David Butter. Adored mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Private family funeral in Scotland”.

Ingrid Seward, author of the book Prince Philip Revealed, told magazine Newsweek: “Lady Butter was wonderful. She is a daughter of the Wernher family and the Queen and Philip were very, very friendly with them and so she was ella the Queen Mother”.

Her death is understood to come as another devastating blow to the Queen who lost her husband in 2021.

The Duke of Edinburgh, who had been married to the Queen for 73 years, died at Windsor Castle in June last year.

Following the Duke’s death, Lady Butter – who also had a longstanding friendship with her cousin, the prince – described Her Majesty’s sense of loss as “incalculable”.

He had dedicated his life to the Queen and sadly died just before his 100th birthday.

In the past the Queen regularly called the Duke her “constant strength” and “guide”.

The pair was described as “love matched” and married in 1947 at Westminster Abbey.

Bullet Train casts Brad Pitt as a wannabe reformed hit man fending off a star line-up of assassins

Brad Pitt might be one of our biggest and most enduring movie stars, but 30-odd years into his fame it’s just possible that he doesn’t get enough credit for the detail – and most importantly, sense of humor – that he brings to his roles.

From his star-making breakout in Thelma & Louise onwards, he’s made a pretty good fist of parodying the ideal leading man, using his dreamy looks as a slippery weapon – think back to his camp, whiny immortal in Interview with the Vampire; his personal trainer harebrained him in Burn After Reading; or his leathery, laconic stunt guy in Once Upon A Time in… Hollywood. (Serious Brad is never nearly as good; he’s a character actor trapped in a leading man mould.)

White man with blonde ponytail and soiled shirt stands before white woman with shaggy brunette hair and taupe trench coat.
Pitt described shooting the film to Collider: “It’s like shooting the old films, like a Hitchcock film with rear projection, but with the latest technology.”(Supplied: Sony)

At 58, Pitt is in the autumn of his blissful idiocy, and it’s a blessing – even if the movies aren’t always a match for his gifts. After stealing the fun but clunky The Lost City – in what amounted to an extended cameo, playing an absurdly macho CIA operative – he’s back to headline David Leitch’s new action movie Bullet Train, and he just might be the only thing keeping this frantic but feeble ride on the tracks.

Looking perfectly ridiculous – and somehow impossibly cool – in a bucket hat and dopey glasses, Pitt plays an unlucky hit man codenamed Ladybug, who finds himself in Tokyo, strutting to a Japanese pop cover of Stayin’ Alive and bound for the bullet train at the behavior of his unseen handler who doubles as his part-time therapist (Sandra Bullock, quite literally phoning it in).

A reformed thug of sorts, Ladybug has recently emerged from some kind of zen retreat that has him spouting goofy self-help mantras – “You put peace out in the world, you get peace back” – that play right into Pitt’s specialty of fusing the silly with the sublime.

Asian man with dark hair and stubble wears dark jacket and stands in doorway holding phone flanked by bright pink walls.
Despite being set in Japan, most of the film was shot in Culver City, California because of COVID travel restrictions.(Supplied: Sony)

On board the train, Ladybug has to snatch a suitcase full of cash from a pair of assassins straight out of a Guy Ritchie movie – Tangerine (Aaron Taylor-Johnson, sporting a douchey mustache and doing his best Ray Winstone) and Lemon (Brian Tyree) Henry, having fun with all the silly accents he must have absorbed on the last, London-set season of Atlanta).

There’s also a deranged assassin cosplaying as a schoolgirl (Joey King), a flamboyant hit man known as The Wolf (pop superstar Bad Bunny), and the shadowy, shapeshifting killer Hornet (Zazie Beetz).

In a caption alongside the snap, Victoria commemorated their anniversary by writing: ‘Still matching 23 years later’.

She also shared an amusing video to her Stories where she jokingly asked fans to guess ‘who copied who’ with their coordinated outfits.

As she revealed their matching ensembles, a disgruntled David said: ‘I had it on first just for the record! This was not planned.’

‘You inspired me!’ Victoria said, before jokingly adding: ‘I’m a fashion inspiration to many, who copied who?’

Actor Upasana Singh files case against Miss Universe Harnaaz Kaur ‘for not honoring her commitment’ on Punjabi film : The Tribune India

TribuneNewsService

Ramkrishan Upadhyay

Chandigarh, August 4

Upasana Singh “Bua” of Kapil Sharma’s comedy show has filed a case against Miss Universe Harnaaz Kaur Sandhu for allegedly “breach of contract”.

Upasana has also claimed damages from Harnaaz Kaur. The case has been filed in Chandigarh court through advocates Karan Sachdeva and Irvan Neet Kaur

In the suit, Upasna has alleged that it was in the year 2020, when Sandhu after winning Femina Miss India entered into an agreement with Santosh Entertainment Studio LLP being run by her to produce a Punjabi feature film ‘Bai Ji Kuttange’.

She signed Sandhu as the lead artist.

Through this agreement, it was specifically agreed between the parties that the artist would make herself available throughout the promotional activities of the film both by being present in-person during the events as well as virtually.

However, Sandhu evaded all her professional and contractual commitments of being the female lead artist in the film by completely ignoring all the communications made to her by the production house as well as all other concerned stakeholders by being absent from all the promotional events and distancing herself. from the cast and crew.

She said that the director, Smeep Kang, and the producers of the film tried accommodating Harnaaz numerous times, as they were quite concerned about the changed scenario after her winning the Miss Universe 2021.

However, she did not even answer a single message or any of the mails sent to her.

As a result, the film lost its distributors, its release date was compromised and ultimately, the release date was postponed from May 27, 2022, to August 19, 2022.

She claimed that, they are incurring huge losses financially, due to her behaviour. She said, “Kaur wanted her first film from her as a producer in Punjabi because Punjabi is her mother tongue from her. But Harnaaz now thinks that we Punjabis are small people. She thinks she is meant for Bollywood and Hollywood projects.”

Upasana Singh said that she mentored her and taught her how to act. She made sure that she looked perfect in every shot. Upasna said that she has not done it as a producer, but she did it purely out of love for Harnaaz. She said that she was really hurt by the way she has treated her. She said that due to her behavior she was forced to file a case against her.

Dev Patel Broke Up A Knife Fight In Australia

“Dev acted on his natural instinct.”

Dev Patel wasn’t just a bystander when he witnessed a dangerous incident going down in Australia.

Earlier this week, the actor was outside of a gas station in Adelaide, Australia when he saw a man and a woman fighting nearby.

When their conflict moved inside of the convenience store, things escalated and the woman pulled out a knife, stabbing the man in the chest.

According to 7News, Dev and other witnesses quickly moved in to attempt to stop the altercation from going any further.

“Dev acted on his natural instinct to try and de-escalate the situation and break up the fight. The group was thankfully successful in doing so,” Dev’s rep said in a statement.

Dev then “remained on site” following the attack “to ensure that the police and eventually the ambulance arrived.”

Police later reported that the stabbing was not random and the man and woman knew each other. The man was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Despite the situation being dangerous, Dev’s rep says there were “no heroes” in the incident.

“This specific incident highlights a larger systemic issue of marginalized members of society not being treated with the dignity and respect they deserve,” their statement said.

They added that Dev hopes that the media attention he is bringing to the story “can be a catalyst for lawmakers to be compassionate in determining long-term solutions to help not only the individuals who were involved but the community at large.”

The woman involved in the stabbing has since been charged with an aggravated assault causing harm and the man is expected to recover.
