Meghan Markle ‘wants answers’ for empty seats at Prince Harry’s UN speech

Meghan Markle wants answers as to why the UN hall was empty during Prince Harry’s speech

Meghan Markle is reportedly looking for answers as to why there were empty seats at the United Nations event last month where her husband Prince Harry was a keynote speaker for Nelson Mandela Day, reported GBNews.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex notably traveled to the UN Headquarters in New York late last month where Prince Harry was invited to deliver a speech, however, footage from the event showed empty seats.

Talking about the same on his YouTube channel, royal expert Neil Sean said: “It must have been very difficult for Harry. It kind of looked like a British pantomime that hadn’t sold out. All those empty seats are never a good look.”

He then claimed: “Meghan wants answers, naturally because they made that big effort to come all the way from California to spend time in New York and when they arrived, there wasn’t the welcome they both anticipated.”

“You can understand they schlepped all those thousands to do that,” Sean concluded.

As for Prince Harry’s speech, he made sure to bring light to important issues like climate change and the US Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe vs. Wade abortion law.

Kylie Jenner defends herself against accusations she failed to follow proper sanitary protocols

Kylie Jenner defended herself against accusations she failed to follow proper sanitary protocols while visiting a lab in Milan for her makeup collection.

Jenner, 24, responded specifically to Kevin James Bennett, an Emmy-award winning makeup artist who called out Kylie on Instagram after she posted photos from the lab on Wednesday.

Jenner insisted the photo he posted was not actually taken in a manufacturing facility, and insisted she would ‘never’ bypass sanitary protocols.

‘I would never bypass sanitary protocols’: Kylie Jenner defended herself against allegations she failed to follow proper sanitary protocols while visiting a lab in Milan for her makeup collection

The reality star hit back at Kyle in the comments section of his post, writing: ‘kevin – this picture is not taken in a manufacturing facility. i would never bypass sanitary protocols and neither would any other celeb or beauty brand owner. that’s completely unacceptable i agree.

‘this is a small personal space creating my own fun samples and taking pictures for content nowhere near the mass manufacturing. no one is putting customers at risk! shame on you kevin for spreading false information !!!!’

A back-and-forth ensued between the duo as Kyle accused Jenner of ‘gaslighting’ her followers.

‘So you were standing on a platform, looking into an expensive homogenizing kettle that had processed at least 50 liters of a complexion product (the product still covering the mixing paddles) without PPE or your hair tied back, wearing a @weareregi lab coat? But this is not a cosmetics manufacturing facility? It’s a personal space? Wow, there’s some serious gaslighting going on here,’ he replied.

Shame on me? NO, shame on you or whoever takes care of your social media for trying to gaslight everyone into thinking I’m the one to blame. Just take responsibility for your mistake and move on,’ he wrote in a separate comment.

Kylie hit back once again, this time insisting she would have to change her dog Kevin’s name due to the altercation.

‘oh were you there kevin? ugh now i have to change my dogs name,’ she added.

‘Are you seriously going to lie and then troll me? Wow,’ I posted.

Bennett, an Emmy-winning makeup artist and cosmetic professional, posted a critique of the images she posted on Wednesday

Kylie faced scrutiny on Wednesday after she posted snaps of herself at the lab where her Kylie Cosmetics products are made.

The Los Angeles-born star captioned the clip, ‘In the lab creating new magic for you guys… better than ever,’ tagging the name of her brand into the post.

This led to commenters pointing out Kylie was not wearing a hair cap, gloves, and mask as she checked out the facility with her long hair dangling down.

One user wrote, ‘Wear a hair cap,’ while another asked aren’t you ‘suppose to wear gloves, mask and the hair net thingy???’

Another user said, ‘I just see so many lab rules not being followed,’ while another said, ‘No gloves or a hair net in a lab??? or even a mask???’

Sources told Dailymail.com that Kylie was not on the production floor and was in the accessible lab area where she could play around with colors and ideate concepts.

A number of Instagram commenters were critical of the protocols being followed in the clip

Eventually, the images caught the attention of Bennett, who weighed into the matter.

‘I’m a cosmetic developer and work with cosmetic manufacturers (and their labs) as part of my job,’ Bennett said. ‘I have very short hair, and I’ve NEVER been allowed into the lab or onto the manufacturing floor without a hair net, shoe covers, mask…and disposable GLOVES.’

Bennett claimed Jenner was ‘gaslighting her followers into thinking she is creating cosmetics,’ adding he questioned ‘what ignorant manufacturer… let her stage this photo-op in their lab and on the manufacturing floor – without following proper sanitation protocols.

‘I need the name because I want to make sure my clients NEVER work with them.’

He wrapped up in saying, ‘Folks, this is not the way we create cosmetics and misrepresents how our industry works. Credible manufacturers follow STRICT sanitation protocols to protect you.’

Dailymail.com has reached out to Jenner’s reps for comment on the criticism.

The Block quitters Elle and Joel ‘hang up’ on Fitzy & Wippa

The Block ‘quitters’ Elle Ferguson and Joel Patfull have remained dead silent amid questions about their exit from the renovation show after just 48 hours.

And in an attempt to finally hear their side of the story, Nova’s Ryan ‘Fitzy’ Fitzgerald and Michael ‘Wippa’ Wipfli cold-called the Sydney couple this week, but things didn’t quite go to plan.

The radio duo welcomed The Block host Scott Cam onto their show Thursday in the wake of his repeated public sprays at the Instagram influencer and retired AFL player, when Wippa told Cam they attempted to contact Elle and Joel the day before.

“We rang them yesterday, Scotty we can’t even play the audio because there isn’t anything to play,” Wippa said.

Fitzy further claimed, “Elle picked up the phone and said ‘This is Joel’s phone.’ And I said, ‘Hi Elle we’re looking for Joel, it’s Fitzy and Wippa here.’ And then Joel comes in and goes ‘Hi, how are you guys?’ And we introduced ourselves again and then bang, he was gone. I have hung up. He’s not a fan of [our] Show.”

Cam has been busy sledging the pair for throwing in the towel so quickly into filming, calling it “p*ss poor” and “unAustralian”, despite reports they left to care for Joel’s mother who’d suffered a Nasty fall in Adelaide.

Given the understandable circumstances, many have been wondering why Cam has hit out so passionately against them.

Speaking to news.com.au in the lead up to the Tree Change season premiere next week, the Channel 9 personality said his frustration stemmed from the couple upping sticks in the middle of the night with “no explanation.”

“They didn’t give us a reason why they were leaving. They never mentioned anything to us about visiting their sick mother,” Cam said.

“In fact, we flew them to Adelaide before The Block started for a week, and put them up in a hotel so they could see (Joel’s mother), and they came back and said ‘everything’s fine’.”

According to Cam, the cast and crew were stunned when Joel and Elle then disappeared.

“They never spoke to us, they just left in the middle of the night,” he said, adding: “I still don’t know why they left. They never mentioned their sick mother in the 48 hours before they left, or after they left. The executive producer spoke to them (after they left) and they didn’t mention their sick mother then either.”

Following up his comments on Fitz & WippaCam said the network would’ve “shut down production” to allow Elle and Joel to see their family.

“You know, come and talk to me and just tell me,” he said. “We would have sorted them out. Because a couple of years ago, Bec from Bec and George, great couple, contestants on The Block … Her mum passed away through the show and we shut the whole show down for a week.

“We brought them all back and we started again when she was ready, we would shut down for two weeks if she needed it.”

Cam revealed Elle and Joel did express some concerns with the executive producer just hours before fleeing, and that their sudden disappearance caused “chaos” on-set.

“We had a promo day that day. It was a Saturday morning, we had 50 or 60 people coming from Sydney. A whole crew with trucks and everything. And we’ve got two contestants missing,” he said.

“So we had to reshoot a lot of stuff, and it was really chaos.”

Elle and Joel are still yet to officially comment.

Lou Wall: the 10 funniest things I have ever seen (on the internet) | comedy

Oh, internet… my best friend, my arch nemesis, my ride or die. We’ve been together for as long as I can remember, I am after all, a Gen Z. (Cusp, don’t question it!)

As a certified purveyor of fine memes, the internet makes up nine-tenths of my personality. I would rather tell you my pin number than reveal my clocked screentime hours. I genuinely search YouTube fail videos to help cure my assortment of (probably internet-fueled) mental illnesses and my everyday conversation consists of so many acronyms and TikTok soundbites that I advise all future lovers to open a permanent Urban Dictionary tab. PSA, you may also need to do that after reading this article!

Now, while the aforementioned traits may scream RED FLAG, or give you the instant ick, I can assure you this, if my extreme internet usage has given me one thing, it’s the ability to heal an immaculate list of hilarious internet content. So without further ado, please allow me to Ctrl + V the funniest shit I’ve seen on the world wide web.

1. How Animals Eat Their Food

This video dropped on my 16th birthday and I remember walking around school insisting that my friends, teachers and even the school gardener watch what I then deemed to be “the funniest video ever”. In hindsight, do I regret that title and is this a cheugy video to start off with? And it is. Will I decide whether we can be friends based on your reaction to this video? Also yes. The pinnacle of 2013 YouTube comedy and the birthday treat that keeps on giving, please enjoy the simple pleasures of How Animals Eat Their Food.

There is nothing juicier than Facebook Marketplace beef. Lubalin has taken this real-life internet interaction and turned it into a musical comedy masterpiece. The beats, the plot development, the twist!? I’m declaring musical comedy funny again.

3. This dog rug listing on Facebook Marketplace

“Tragedy plus time equals comedy,” I whisper to myself nervously as I link you to this travesty of a Facebook listing.

4. James Acaster on British Bake Off

In lockdown one I decided that I should make gnocchi from scratch and, let me tell you, they came out so wet and hard the only accurate description I can give you is that they tasted like “river rocks”. Anyway, this video makes my kitchen nightmare look like Attica. I’m pretty sure I contracted food poisoning simply viewing this but comedian James Acaster struggling through a string of mental breakdowns while attempting to make flapjacks will never not be iconic.

5.Flat Earth Conference

I have a special place in my heart for conspiracy theorists. My dream is to one day own a pizzeria called Flat Earth Pizza’s just for the demographic of customers it would attract and the wild conversations I would have. For now I will make do with this report from a flat earthers’ conference – bonus points for the freestyle rap.

6. The Kids Write Jokes Twitter account

What is blue and falls from the sky?

— Kids Write Jokes (@KidsWriteJokes) July 24, 2022

I know I screamed earlier about being a Zoomer and being “one with the internet” but I truly have nothing on iPad kids. Generation Alpha – those born 2010-24, yes I am vomiting in millennials – will be the funniest of all time. With their evolved texting thumbs and Google glasses, they are coming for the jugular. This Twitter page features genuine joke attempts by children and, let me say, my career in standup comedy is quaking.

I actually don’t have the articulation skills to define what makes this TikTok so funny so, if you don’t understand this, I’m sorry for your loss.

If you pissed away your precious youth watching Glee and/or trying to belt a high C, consider this your safe space. Yes, it’s a Facebook group where everyone pretends to be rehearsing for the same musical amateur. Way too much of my lockdown was spent here. You’re welcome.

Number 10 should probably have been my grandma’s close-friends Instagram stories (yes, you heard right) but that is for a selected crowd only and we are a queen who seeks privacy around her meme selection. In lieu, here is a simple yet perfect TikTok.

Gay son tells of shock as he discovers his ‘homophobic’ dad on Grindr

Young Australian man Jacob says his father disowned him when he came out as gay – so imagine his shock when he came across his married, “homophobic” father on the hookup app Grindr.

Jacob revealed the bizarre tale on Kyle Sandilands and Jackie O’s radio show, explaining that he’d been scrolling through profiles when he came across a photo of a man’s torso – with no head shown in the picture – and thought he noticed something a little familiar .

“They have one of those ensuites that are through the walk-in closet,” he told the surprised radio duo.

“I thought, that looks sort of like my parents’ house.

“I clicked through the profile to see if it could be my dad.”

Jacob explained that his mum and dad had been happily married for 27 years and he had never seen any sign of a “rift” in their relationship.

Thinking what he’d discovered may be a fake profile, he decided to engage with the user to see if it really was his dad.

“I wasn’t flirting with him, I just engaged in normal conversation, told him I liked his picture and asked where he is from,” Jacob explained.

“Then I asked for a picture of his face – when he felt it through it was my dad.”

Jacob said he was now faced with a difficult dilemma.

Should he tell his mum? Should he confront his dad about him?

“I am very open and forward-thinking, I don’t care if he is gay, I just don’t want him lying to mum,” he said.

Despite his father disowning him when he told his parents about his sexual orientation, they eventually reconciled.

Now, he said he wanted to talk to his father and “get his story.”

“I want to know why he has been hiding it from me for so long,” he said.

“He was super against it when I was coming out.

“He hated me.

“He was super angry and didn’t want anything to do with me in his life.”

Jacob asked those listening in to the radio segment for advice.

What should I do?

The overwhelming response was that Jacob should sit down with his parents and discuss what he had found out – as difficult as that might be.

“You have to discuss this with both your parents, they have to be aware,” one caller advised.

Another listener said the same thing had happened to his partner.

“My partner had a similar thing happen, his dad had six kids, was a construction manager and appeared happily married,” the caller said.

“Your dad will be happier if he can be true to his real identity, and your mum deserves the chance to be happy too.”

A third caller suggested Jacob speak to his father first, then his mum, rather than addressing the issue with them both at the same time.

One man revealed that he had found gay magazines in his dad’s car and followed him after work one day.

“I found out what he was doing in the evening,” the man explained.

“I spoke to my siblings about it and we realized he had been doing it our whole lives.”

The caller added that his parents were still together after the family had a “sit-down chat” about his father’s sexual orientation.

At the end of the radio segment Jacob told Kyle and Jackie O that he was still feeling undecided about what to do and would have to give it more thought.

Marilyn Monroe’s estate defends Ana de Armas over biopic accent criticism | Anne of Arms

The estate of Marilyn Monroe has come to the defense of Ana de Armas after criticism of her accent in her portrayal of Monroe in a forthcoming biopic.

The movie Blonde, based on a novel by Joyce Carol Oates, covers Monroe’s rise to fame. It is directed by Andrew Dominik and will be released by Netflix on 28 September.

When the trailer for the film was released in late July, some watchers said they could hear hints of De Armas’s Spanish accent in her rendering of Monroe’s famous breathy tone. De Armas was born in Cuba and acted in Spain before moving to Hollywood.

In an interview with the Times last year, De Armas spoke about the struggle to perfect Monroe’s accent, saying it took nine months of dialect coaching.

“It was a big torture, so exhausting. My brain was fried,” she said.

Marc Rosen, president of entertainment of Authentic Brands Group (ABG), which owns Monroe’s estate, defended the casting.

“Marilyn Monroe is a singular Hollywood and pop culture icon that transcends generations and history,” he said.

“Any actor who steps into that role knows they have big shoes to fill. Based on the trailer alone, it looks like Ana was a great casting choice as she captures Marilyn’s glamour, humanity and vulnerability. We can’t wait to see the film in its entirety!”

De Armas also said Dominik, the director, was confident in her ability to portray Monroe after one audition, but she “had to audition for everyone else”.

“The producers. The money people. I always have people I needed to convince. But I knew I could do it. Playing Marilyn was groundbreaking. A Cuban playing Marilyn Monroe. I wanted it so badly,” she said.

In a separate interview with Netflix Queue, De Armas said she “read Joyce’s novel, studied hundreds of photographs, videos, audio recordings, films – anything I could get my hands on. Every scene is inspired by an existing photograph. We’d pore over every detail in the photo and debate what was happening in it.”

Brad Pitt, whose production company Plan B is producing the movie, also praised De Armas amid criticism of her accent in the film.

“She’s phenomenal in it,” Pitt told the New York Post. “That’s a tough dress to fill. It was 10 years in the making. It wasn’t until we found Ana that we could get it across the finish line.”

“Batgirl” Directors Respond To Film’s Scrapping

Batgirl Directors Respond To Films Scrapping
sony pictures

In the wake of the surprising news of the scrapped release of “Batgirl,” the filmmakers behind the $90 million budgeted project have issued a statement.

Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah served as directors on “Batgirl,” the pair taking the helm of the film following their break-out success with “Bad Boys For Life” and, more recently, a bunch of the “Ms. Marvel” series for the Disney+ service.

In a very unfortunate piece of timing, the pair were in Morocco in the midst of El Arbi’s wedding when they reportedly got confirmation of the cancellation of “Batgirl”. In a statement posted to Instagram, they say:

“We are saddened and shocked by the news. We still can’t believe it. As directors, it is critical that our work be shown to audiences, and while the film was far from finished, we wish that fans all over the world would have had the opportunity to see and embrace the final film themselves. Maybe one day they will insha’Allah.”

Warner Bros. Discovery opted to take a tax write-down on the film rather than release it, according to sources, as the new regime pivots to refocus Warners on theatrical, rather than streaming, releases. Leslie Grace, Michael Keaton, JK Simmons and Brendan Fraser starred in the now abandoned film.

Moshpits, megacities and Mecca: ‘overwhelming’ new film captures the brutality and beauty of crowds | movies

There’s an extra edge to being in a crowd these days. Once we might have asked, will this crowd jostle or crush me? Now we ask, will this crowd make me sick? Will this crowd kill me? As new waves of Covid and new variants keep coming, we wonder: will we ever feel truly comfortable in crowds again?

Richard Tognetti, artistic director of the Australian Chamber Orchestra, has spent the last few years thinking about crowds. From his home in Sydney, the musician and composer has been working on a new production with director Nigel Jamieson called The Crowd and I, which pairs footage of crowds – everything from Black Lives Matter protests to Spain’s annual mass tomato fight – with a live orchestra playing in time.

Tognetti himself is not particularly fond of crowds. “I have a personal dislike of being in them,” he said. “I have been to some arena concerts and would choose not to go again. I saw the Rolling Stones in an arena show but I would rather have seen them at the Enmore.”

What about when he was young? “I was never in the moshpit – I didn’t want to break my arm. That would be the main thing.”

A decade in the making, The Crowd and I is split into 13 chapters, with footage from around the world of every kind of crowd: a swarm at Coachella, sprawling refugee camps, packed commuter trains, drone footage of protests and close encounters with riots . Some footage was captured by the likes of artist Ai Weiwei and cinematographer Jon Frank, who worked closely with the ACO on The Reef.

Tognetti compiled the soundtrack, zipping between Chopin, Sibelius and Beethoven to modern US composer Morton Feldman and even his own. Each piece gives rise to a different flavor of emotion in the viewer; To handle the dramatic switches in mood between the chapters, the ACO have expanded its ranks for the performance and will feature brass and woodwinds, live electronics and vocalists from the Song Company.

The performance, which starts in Canberra on Saturday before touring, promises to be intensely emotional and thought-provoking – like the best of the ACO’s work over the last few decades, including 2005’s Luminous, made with photographer Bill Henson.

Richard Tognetti of Australian Chamber Orchestra plays in front of The Crowd & I
‘Like any good art, the more preachy it is, the less room there is for poetry’ … Richard Tognetti, centre. Photograph: ACO

Throughout the performance the crowds shapeshift: sometimes they are threatening, sometimes celebratory, sometimes uplifting, sometimes dangerous. There is a spectacular clip of a moshpit – hundreds of young bodies hurtling towards each other, colliding without malice – which is accompanied by an original Tognetti composition titled Mosh Maggot. But the most affecting chapter (among many) is Tide, which includes CCTV footage of George Floyd’s murder and the subsequent Black Lives Matter marches across the world.

“When you see the footage, it’s overwhelming,” says Tognetti. “The marches spread like a tidal wave throughout the world. We didn’t want to imbue the music with operatic drama – we didn’t need to. Like any good art, the more preachy it is, the less room there is for poetry.”

Also overwhelming, even after all these years, is seeing footage of the Cronulla riots, filmed by photojournalist Craig Greenhill. “Some people may say ‘I’ve already seen this, I don’t need to see this again.’ And I’m like, ‘Oh yes you do’,” says Tognetti. “No one is innocent – no one is free from blame.”

The show’s genesis was in 2008 when Tognetti was given funding to “dream up wicked and wild things. I wanted to do something on crowds and put it together really quickly – but what it lacked was an overarching directorial vision and so Jamieson came on board.” The two men picked the work up again during the 2020 lockdown and found that “the last 3% that takes 99% of the money and the time. It’s been a couple of years of crafting and chiselling away.”

The Crowd and I have changed over the decade: “It started off with a more misanthropic bent – crowds are scary, mobs are dangerous. It was easier to be dark than light.” In the final version, there is an interplay of both: yes, crowds can be dangerous and scary – but as we’ve learned in the pandemic, we also often need and crave communal experience.

Any fear of crowds also hits the bottom line of artists such as Tognetti. The arts need the crowd to survive.

“I hope people continue to buy tickets and please turn up!” he says. “Not to just the gold-plated and big theatrical events but to the ecology – underneath all the smaller shows and venues, or all the undergrowth won’t be here in five years. You have to support it.”

  • The Crowd and I is touring to Canberra (August 6), Melbourne (August 7-8), Sydney (August 9-14) and Brisbane (August 15).

The adopted woman who discovered she was a royal: ‘You are a princess in this country’

In a seemingly real life fairytale, one adopted woman has grown up only to find out she is actually an African princess.

Sarah Culberson was adopted at birth by a family in West Virginia and had a relatively normal upbringing.

Throughout her childhood, the now-46-year-old revealed that she had always thought about her birth family and felt curious about her familial background.

In an interview with UNILAD, Culberson told reporters, “As I got older, I started to notice, ‘OK, I look different than everybody else.’ I knew I was adopted and then I started to wonder about my birth family.” Watch the clip above.

And while Culberson knew she was different, she had no idea she actually came from royalty.

In an effort to reach her birth parents, Culberson investigated the whereabouts of her biological mother. However, she was left heartbroken after finding out her mother de ella – a white American woman – had passed away years earlier.

As more years went by, Culberson’s curiosity persisted and at 28 years old, she decided to hire a private investigator to find her biological father.

Investigations suggested that Culberson’s father was based in Maryland, so she decided to pen a letter to him and mail it.

Days later, Culberson received a call from her uncle – who was actually the one residing in Maryland – expressing his gratitude that she had been “found.”

“Oh Sarah! We are so happy you have been found. Do you know who you are?” I exclaimed on the phone.

To a confused Culberson replied, “I’m Sarah.'”

Culberson was left in disbelief: “I was literally thinking, ‘What in the world is he talking about?’ This is a little bit overwhelming.”

Her uncle went on to explain her royal lineage, revealing that her father was Joseph Konia Kposowa, a chief in Sierra Leone. He promptly told Culberson that he would contact her father so that they could be reunited.

Just two weeks later, Culberson spoke to her father on the phone and he asked for her forgiveness saying he had tried to find her but struggled as her name had changed.

Culberson assured her father that he did not need to be sorry as she had enjoyed a beautiful upbringing in America.

Months later, Culberson traveled to Sierra Leone where she received a truly royal welcome and was reunited with her family.

“It was beautiful to be welcomed and loved,” she said. “It was so spectacular.”
