Stephen Marlow, 39, has been charged with 13 counts including eight murder charges in Vandalia Municipal Court stemming from the killings of Clyde and Eva Knox, and Sarah and Kayla Anderson last week. Following a nationwide manhunt, Marlow was captured Saturday in Lawrence, Kansas.

Marlow appeared in a Douglas County, Kansas courtroom at 4 pm EDT, the Douglas County District Attorney’s Office confirmed with News Center 7.

During the hearing, a judge ruled to keep Marlow held in jail with no bond, as requested by the original jurisdiction that charged him, the district attorney spokesperson told News Center 7.

An attorney was appointed for the extradition part of his case and Marlow will make his next appearance in Douglas County court Wednesday afternoon for a status hearing, the spokesperson said.

The extradition part of Marlow’s hearing will determine when Butler Twp. police can get him from Kansas and bring him back to face charges in Montgomery County.

The spokesperson added they’re expecting to learn if Marlow will waive the extradition hearing or not. If Marlow does not waive extradition, it will set a formal extradition proceeding, the spokesperson said.

The Douglas County DA’s Office confirmed Marlow is not facing any charges in Kansas.

The charges against Marlow in Vandalia Municipal Court are:

  • 8 counts of aggravated murder
  • 4 counts of aggravated burglary
  • 1 count of weapons under disability

Newly-obtained court records indicate Marlow spoke to a neighbor in between the deadly shootings at two homes on Hardwicke Place.

The witness told investigators he watched Marlow leave the home of Sarah and Kayla Anderson after the first shots were fired.

“(The witness) watched Stephen exit the garage of (the Anderson’s home) and spoke to him. (The witness) stated he watched Stephen holster a gun and Stephen made a vague threat to him. (The witness) was able to positively identify Stephen in a photo lineup,” investigators said in a court filing in Vandalia Municipal Court, obtained in a News Center 7 public records request.

Investigators also outlined the series of events during the deadly shootings. Investigators allege Marlow first went into the open attached garage where the Andersons lived and shot and killed both Sarah and Kayla. The killings were caught on security cameras that were at the house, court records indicate.

Marlow then went to the home of Clyde and Eva Knox, which is one house to the south from the home where the Andersons lived, entered through the Knox’s detached garage and killed them, investigators allege in the court filings.

A second witness told investigators he heard the gunshots at the Knox’s home, looked outside and saw Marlow getting into a white Ford SUV moments before Marlow drove away, investigators allege in the court documents.

After the killings Marlow fled the area, sparking a nationwide search. Lawrence, Kansas police provided new details on the capture of Marlow Saturday, saying they were notified about 30 minutes before his arrest that Marlow was suspected to be in the Lawrence area.

A Lawrence officer spotted Marlow’s car, attempted a traffic stop in a grocery store parking lot, and Marlow was taken into custody without incident, Lawrence Patrol Lt. David Ernst said in a media availability Monday.

We’ll continue to update this story as we learn more.

Gov. Ricketts Releases Statement on Potential Special Session to Amend Nebraska’s Abortion Laws

Media Release:

Gov. Ricketts Releases Statement on Potential Special Session to Amend Nebraska’s Abortion Laws

LINCOLN- Today, Governor Ricketts received a letter from Speaker of the Legislature Mike Hilgers. It indicated that 30 state senators support amending Nebraska’s abortion laws to prohibit abortions starting at 12 weeks in a special session. The Governor released the following statement in response:

“It is deeply saddening that only 30 Nebraska state senators are willing to come back to Lincoln this fall in order to protect innocent life. The proposal to change Nebraska’s state law that prohibits abortions starting at 20 weeks and reduces that to 12 weeks is a measured, reasonable step to protect more preborn babies in our state.”

“Right now, babies in Nebraska can be aborted up to 20 weeks. At this age, babies are nearly fully formed. They can kick, swallow, hear and respond to sounds outside the womb. They suck their thumbs. They can feel pain. And as medical advancements continue, more and more babies born at this stage can survive premature births and go on to live vibrant lives. Under Nebraska’s current law, these babies can still be killed before they have that chance.”

“Most of the free world has more reasonable abortion laws than Nebraska. Over 75 percent of countries around the world have placed restrictions on abortion at 12 weeks. Our 20 week abortion ban puts us in line with a narrow ten percent of countries – including countries like North Korea and China – that fail to protect preborn babies.”

“I ask all Nebraskans who are pro-life to look at the list of state senators who signed the letter. If your state senator is on that list, please call or email their office to thank them for their choice to stand with preborn babies. If your state senator is not on the list, please call or email them as well to encourage them to reconsider their decision on this reasonable change to Nebraska’s abortion laws.”

“This letter shows that elections have consequences. In our state, we must work to protect the most vulnerable, and that includes our preborn babies. There’s no more important issue. We cannot achieve equality for all if we silence human beings before they even have a voice.”

“The senators’ letter shows we don’t have the 33 votes needed to pass legislation to protect more preborn babies. For this reason, I will not be calling a special session. Nebraskans need to have more conversations on the value we place on human life so more meaningful protections can be passed in our state.”

“As Governor, I will continue doing whatever I can in my power to affirm the rights of preborn babies and to support pregnant women, children, and families in need.”

Does Vegemite expire: Man discovers Vegemite jar sitting in shelf for 10 years

American man discovers ‘incredible’ fact about Vegemite that ‘every Australian already knows’: ‘My mind is blown’

  • A US resident was amazed after discovering a fact about Vegemite
  • Sharing a photo on Reddit, the man was impressed by the ‘use by’ date
  • The jar was more than 10 years old and the expiration date was labeled June 23, 2011
  • ‘It’s true that Vegemite has no expiration date,’ he wrote
  • But Aussies know the popular spread doesn’t expire since it’s made from yeast

An American man who enjoys eating Vegemite on toast has discovered an ‘amazing’ fact about the Aussie spread after taking a closer look at the jar.

Sharing a photo on Reddit, the man was shocked by the ‘use by’ date that read June 23, 2011 – more than a decade ago.

‘If you’ve ever wondered if it’s true that Vegemite has no expiration date, I can confirm that it’s true,’ the man wrote.

While the fact came as a shock to the American, most Aussies know Vegemite doesn’t expire since it’s made from yeast extract and salt.

‘I bought a 220g jar of Vegemite some time ago from a well-known import store in the US. I’ve been using it sparingly for quite a while, and I still have not used it all up,’ the man continued.

‘This morning I got it out to spread on some toast for breakfast. As I was eating it, I wondered how long I’ve been on this same jar.

‘I looked for a ‘use by date’, and this is what I saw.’

In the comments Australians joked Vegemite could withstand the test of time and survive unscathed against a ‘nuclear war’.

‘Vegemite is to Australians what honey was to the ancient Egyptians. You will be ok to uncover a jar from a grave in 2000 years and still use it,’ one person wrote.

‘It’s 70 per cent salt so you probably have at least another 6 Australian prime minister changes before it stops being effective against drop bears,’ another Reddit user joked.

A third added: ‘Two things will outlast humanity: 1. Micro plastics 2. Vegemite.’

‘New goal unlocked: be buried in a tomb surrounded by jars of Vegemite to sustain me in the afterlife,’ another said.

On a serious note, some said Vegemite could go bad or become moldy if contaminated with butter.

Vegemite doesn’t have a ‘use by’ date, but instead a ‘best before’ date.

‘Phenomenal’ Quade tipped to rise again, how Hoops reacted to win, Tahs sign powerful Fijian, Bok banned

Wallabies No.9 Nic White has backed Quade Cooper to fight back after his latest injury set back to challenge for a recall ahead of the World Cup next year and revealed Michael Hooper’s reaction to their Rugby Championship opener.

Cooper went down early in the second half of Sunday’s win over Argentina with an Achilles tendon rupture that will rule him out of rugby for at least six months.

“He’s a pretty measured guy. He’s seen it all throughout his career. He’s one of the most professional guys I have come across where he’s at the moment,” White told reporters on Tuesday.

“The lows don’t get him too low and the highs, he certainly doesn’t ride them.

“He’s a very consistent guy with his emotions and he was in pretty good spirits considering the injury that he just had, already talking about the path hat he’s happy to take on.

“I’ve got no doubt that he’ll, he’s the right type of guy that will probably come back sooner than expected and be in some phenomenal shape when he comes back. You know, you can see it in the way he does everything.”

The injury has left the door open for someone else to grab the front running for RWC 2023.

White wouldn’t be drawn on who the favorite might be when asked if this was an opportunity for his Brumbies teammate Noah Lolesio to seize the No.10 and not let go.

Dave Rennie also has James O’Connor and Reece Hodge as options on the ground for Sunday’s second Test in Argentina.

“We’ve got great depth in all positions from one to 15 and 10 is no different,” said White.

“There’s a real opportunity there for whoever grabs it. It’s next man up. Noah’s taken these opportunities when he’s got them. So have James. And we’re just very lucky.

“We’ve had guys coming in and out, we’ve had plenty of injuries but with any sort of injury there becomes an opportunity and it’s pretty much how most of our careers start, through the misfortune of somebody else.

“Whoever grabs it, though, they’ll be ready to go.”

Meanwhile, White said Hooper checked in after returning to Australia from the tour.

“He’s spoken to a few of us,” said White. ” spoke to him after the game once he touched down. Obviously he was stoked with the result.

“We’ll stay in contact with him. He’s got a lot of support around him. He’s not on his own now. So the staff put a good plan in place for him. He’ll be well looked after back there and we’ll make sure we stay in touch.”

White said he was unaware of any timeline for Hooper’s return. While James Slipper took the reins as skipper following Hooper’s departure, White has been touted as a potential skipper if Hooper doesn’t return.

“If it comes… but I’m pretty happy with my role,” White said. “I’m sitting there behind Slips and I chew the boys’ ears off plenty so I’ve got already got a role within the team, I’ve got plenty of voice and whatnot.

“I don’t need a title there and I’m not sure the referees would be stoked with it,” he joked.

White said the Australians needed further work on their discipline after 30 penalties were blown up by Scottish referee Mike Adamson in the first Test. The ref’s constant whistling saw Australia caned in the first half and made it tough for them to establish a foothold.

The Roar experts Brett McKay, Harry Jones and Jim Tucker review Australia’s win in Mendoza

It led to another slow start, something that has become a worrying habit under Rennie.

“We lost the territorial battle. A lot of that was through ill-discipline through that first half, with [Santiago] Racing hitting kicks for line, 50-60 meters.

“You give up a penalty and they’re in your half and that is the tale of the first half. We made some adjustments at halftime. 19-10 wasn’t disastrous after what felt like a pretty disappointing half for us.

“We turned that around in the second half and it’s going to be a big point for us this week, sorting out that discipline side because there’s a number of penalties that we don’t need to give away and we need to force teams to exit rather than giving them piggybacks up the field.”

White added: “There’s just so much in that game that we can be so much better at.

“Pretty shaky start, discipline was a big one for us. This weekend we’re going to have to go another level because they’ll be disappointed with how they played on the weekend and Cheik will have them fired up.”

Tahs sign a Fijian Tiger

Fijian powerhouse Nemani Nadolo will return to the Waratahs next season as coach Daren Coleman looks to add “size and power” to his wide areas.

Nadolo, 34, played a leading role for Leicester as they won the English Premiership this year and made his Test debut for Fiji in 2010 when Coleman was an assistant coach for the team.

Nadolo was on the Tahs books in 2008 but limited opportunities saw him leave with contracts in France, England, and Japan before he returned to Super Rugby with the Crusaders, and he was the competition’s joint top try scorer in 2014 with 12, including one in the loss to the Tahs in that year’s end.

Nadolo scored 10 tries from 21 matches in the latest Premiership season.

“Who would’ve thought after leaving these doors 12 years ago I’d get another opportunity to be part of the club again,” Nadolo said in a statement.

““I’m grateful to Darren and the board for having faith in me and giving me another opportunity.

“NSW are heading in the right direction and I’m glad I can be a part of their journey.”

Coleman, who brought in Jamie Roberts to add experience, said he opted for Nadolo after reviewing the recent campaign.

“We’ve all seen what Nemani has done in world rugby in the last ten years and it’s incredibly exciting to have him in a sky-blue jersey,” Coleman said.

“One of the things we identified from our season review was the need to add some size and power to our roster, and Nemani brings a lot of size and physicality which will add an extra dimension to our team.

“He’s motivated to get back to Sydney have another crack at Super Rugby and push his claims to get in the Fijian Test team for their 2023 Rugby World Cup campaign.”

Boks defend fearless Arendse

Springboks winger Kurt-Lee Arendse has been banned for four games after his horror aerial hit on Beauden Barrett, while All Blacks coach Ian Foster was livid at the South African team’s tactics.

The Boks piled misery on Foster’s team, sending them to an all-time low of fifth on the WR rankings.

The Boks’ win came despite the red card to Arendse who hit Barrett while the New Zealander was jumping to catch a high ball. He landed on his head and neck and suffered a concussion.

”[I’ve got] massive concerns,” said Foster of the Arendse incident. “It’s probably the worst I’ve seen. It was pretty disappointing because it happened in the 10th minute as well and they deemed it was fair.

“Part of the problem in the game is in the lineout if you throw a jumper over to their side with an arm up, it’s considered obstruction, whereas it’s becoming a free-for-all for jumpers just to be able to jump and stick to hand out and say they’re competing. It needs to be addressed.”

Foster’s mood is unlikely to be eased by South Africa’s perspective on his comments.

In response, Boks assistant coach Deon Davids praised Arendse’s performance.

“It is interesting,” he said. “I think we know that the aerial contest is a very important part of our game and I must commend our players for the fearlessness they showed when they competed for the ball in the air.

“Looking back at the previous games there was a step up in execution from us in that area and because we kick contestable kicks there will always be a contest in the air.

Players like Kurt-Lee [Arendse] and [Makazole] Mapimpi were outstanding in terms of going up for the high ball.

“I think there might be one or two cases where the judgment was maybe wrong, but nothing was done intentionally to put us or the opponents in a difficult position.”

Yaser Said ‘honor killings’ trial: Ex-FBI ‘Top 10 Most Wanted’ suspect accused of killing daughters testifies

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

One of the FBI’s former top 10 most-wanted suspects, who is facing a trial 12 years after allegedly carrying out “honor killings” against his two daughters in Texas, took the stand on Monday and told the court, “I did not kill my daughters.”

Yaser Said, 65, testified with the help of a translator on Monday inside a Dallas courtroom, where the defense rested later in the day. Said is charged with capital murder, accused of killing 18-year-old Amina Said and 17-year-old Sarah Said on New Year’s Day in 2008. Yaser Said has entered a not guilty plea.

Said, who had worked as a taxi driver, faces an automatic life sentence if convicted.

The sisters were found shot to death in a taxi parked near a hotel in the Dallas suburb of Irving.

YASER SAID ‘HONOR KILLINGS’ TRIAL: DAUGHTER IN 911 CALL TELLS POLICE SHE’S ‘DYING’

His testimony comes days after jurors heard a 911 call Sarah Said made from a cellphone, telling the operator that her father shot her and she was dying.

“Help,” said a crying voice on the 911 recording, later determined by police to be that of Sarah Said. “I’m dying. Oh my God. Stop it.”

SON OF YASER SAID, FBI 10 MOST-WANTED ‘HONOR KILLINGS’ SUSPECT, PLEADS GUILTY TO CONCEALING HIM

Said testified for less than two hours on Monday, when prosecutors tried to poke holes in his claims.

During cross-examination, prosecutors asked him if, as a taxi driver, he could understand and speak English. Through a translator, I have answered yes.

Yaser Said allegedly invited his daughters to a meal at Denny's before killing them.

Prosecutors also asked him why he would leave his daughters in his car if he feared he was being followed, as he had claimed. They also asked why he left his gun in his car if he was “scared.”

Said responded that he believed the person following them was after him and not his daughters.

TRIAL OF TEXAS MAN ACCUSED OF MURDERING DAUGHTERS IN ‘HONOR KILLINGS’ FOR HAVING NON-MUSLIM BOYFRIENDS BEGINS

During his cross-examination, Said also testified that women in America are more protected than men; that women do not have the fear of calling police on a man; and that his ex-wife of her, Patricia Owens, who testified last week, lied when she said that he had threatened to kill her.

A jury is expected to hear closing arguments on Tuesday, and panelists will be sequestrated for the duration of deliberations.

Owens testified Thursday that her ex-husband was abusive and controlling during their marriage. And when Owens was asked to identify her ex-husband of her in court, she pointed at Said and said, “That devil there.”

MARYLAND MAN ACCUSED OF KILLING, DISMEMBERING DAUGHTER, YEARS AFTER ALLEGEDLY MURDERED SON AND FRIEND

A former police detective testified Thursday that the taxi in which the girls had been found had been slow to Yaser Said.

A week before the sisters were killed, they and their mother left their home in the Dallas suburb of Lewisville and went to Oklahoma to get away from Said. Both sisters’ boyfriends also joined the three.

Prosecutor Lauren Black said in opening statements that the sisters had become “very scared for their lives,” and the decision to leave was made after Said “put a gun to Amina’s head and threatened to kill her,” the prosecutor said.

Owens, who spoke softly and often hesitantly on the stand, testified that Said eventually convinced her to return to Texas. “I didn’t think anything would happen,” she testified.

Black said during opening statements that Said was “obsessed with possession and control.” Owens testified that when she married Said, she was 15 and he was 29. The evening the girls were killed, Said wanted to take just the two sisters to a restaurant.

A police report from after the girls’ death described that a family member told investigators that the suspect threatened “bodily harm″ against Sarah for going on a date with a non-Muslim. Owens fled with her daughters in the week before their deaths because she was in “great fear for her life.” Gail Gattrell, the sisters’ great-aunt, has called the deaths an “honor killing,” in which a woman is murdered by a relative to protect her family’s honor.

In a letter written to the judge overseeing the case, Said said he was not happy with his kids’ “dating activity” but denied killing his daughters. Defense attorney Joseph Patton said in opening statements that the evidence would not support a conviction and that police were too quick to focus on Said.

Patricia Owens confirms a photo of herself at age 14, a year before she married her former husband, Yaser Said, when he was 29.

The Block’s Elle Ferguson has been accused of ‘deleting negative comments’ amid social media backlash from quitting the show after just 48 hours into filming.

While many fans took aim at the couple for leaving the abruptly leaving show, others offered a gentler take of the fiasco.

‘It’s her page. Why would you want rude ignorant people who’s biggest concern is a couple leaving the Block leaving disgusting messages.’

Others joined in the chorus to defend the couple.

‘Ignore the negativity. You’re worked hard for what you have…you’re clearly not a quitter! If only all of the Insta-trolls could walk a mile in your (fabulous) shoes,’ one wrote.

Another said it was ‘their choice’ to leave the top-rated reality renovation show.

‘Whether you agree with their choice, it is their choice. Did they leave in the right way? They did it the way they wanted to. Saying you’re disappointed is different from being a troll and writing awful comments.’

On Monday night, viewers finally got to see the moment Scott Cam told the stunned Blockheads that Elle and the former AFL star decided to quit the show.

During the episode, the host, 59, was pulled aside by two executive producers who revealed the glam influencers decided to leave after just 48 hours of being on-set.

‘Last night I gave you all an opportunity – an out – if you thought you couldn’t cut it on the show that you could leave if you wanted to,’ the fuming host began.

‘I didn’t think anyone would drop an opportunity like this, but I’ve just found out that Joel and Elle are on their way to the airport.’

He added: ‘They have left their show. They didn’t say goodbye, they didn’t say thanks for having us. They just left.’

Scott previously said at the Logie Awards that Elle and Joel giving up so soon into the competition was ‘unAustralian’ and ‘p**s poor’.

He told TV Tonight: ‘We had a 48-hour challenge to choose the house that you get and they scarpered after 48 hours. It’s something that’s never happened before.

‘Forty-five thousand people applied to be on The Block and win life-changing money. These guys got on and they just couldn’t handle the pace after 48 hours,’ he continued.

Wallabies utility Reece Hodge back after Quade Cooper injury against Argentina

“It hurts, you always want to be apart of it. But I think I was pretty quick to take a holistic view of the situation.”

When you have been asked to play every position in a Wallabies back line except halfback, you become good at dealing with curveballs. Hodge just applied the same attitude: keep working, be ready.

“It is something that Quade has also talked about a lot in the last 12 to 18 months: focus on the process. It is a bit of a cliche but it comes back to that ‘be ready’ kind of thing,” Hodge said.

“It wasn’t a down-in-the-dumps moment where you think it’s all over. I have been around long enough now to know it is never as good as it seems and it is never as bad as it seems. That’s the attitude you need to take in professional rugby.”

Soon enough Hodge was called back into the Wallabies squad via injuries, replacing Tom Banks and then Andrew Kellaway. He started the third Test against England at fullback and his versatility gave Rennie scope to name a 6-2 bench for the first time in Mendoza. Australia’s bench forwards, it must also be noted, secured the win.

Hodge is one of three options to replace Cooper in the second Test but, in all likelihood, Rennie will keep Hodge up his sleeve as the perfect bench cover.

Some players have hated the utility tag but others, like 121-Test Mr Fix-It Adam Ashley-Cooper came to enjoy it. In truth, it is a specialty all of it own and not many players are good enough to competently play four different roles in four weeks of Test rugby.

“It is up to the coaches and as I have said previously, I am happy to play anywhere,” Hodge said.

“And I don’t just say it for the sake of it. It is a position I don’t take lightly, that the coaches have trust in me and my knowledge and detail that I can cover 10 to 15.

“I take a lot of pride in that but I need to also make sure I am prepared for any role. Who knows what this week holds but to be part of the match-day squad anywhere would be a privilege, as always.”

All 4 victims, including 2 children, identified after drunk driver slams into golf cart at Galveston intersection, police say

GALVESTON – Galveston police have released the identities of the four victims, including two children who were killed after a suspected drunk driver slammed into a golf cart they were riding in late Saturday night.

Police said Felipe Bentacur, 49, and Destiny Uvalle, 25, were two of the adult victims identified in the crash. The minor victims were identified as 14-year-old Brailyn Cantu, and the youngest, 4-year-old Kaisyn Bentacur.

Two additional victims from the golf cart remain in the hospital in critical condition, according to police.

WHAT HAPPENED?

A suspected drunk driver is in custody after four people, including two children and several were injured after a major crash involving multiple vehicles and a golf cart at a Galveston intersection on Saturday night, Galveston police said.

Forty-five-year-old Miguel Espinoza, the man who police say caused the crash, has been charged with four counts of intoxication manslaughter. He is currently under police custody. Espinoza appeared before a judge Monday where he learned of the charges against him and was appointed an attorney.

The crash occurred at the intersection of Avenue R and 33rd Street at around 11:30 pm

According to Galveston PD in a release, a black-colored Hyundai SUV was on the eastbound side of Avenue R when Espinoza was driving eastbound in a Hyundai SUV on R Avenue. Investigators said he failed to stop at the intersection, striking a golf cart and a pickup truck that was traveling northbound and a Dodge pickup truck traveling southbound.

Six people, including three children, were in the golf cart at the time of the crash. One adult passenger died at the scene, while the rest were taken to an area hospital where a second adult passenger and two children later died. A third passenger and a child remain in critical condition.

The driver of a black Dodge pickup truck and a child passenger were treated with minor injuries and were later released, according to police.

Police say Espinoza had a passenger in the car who was treated and released.

“We knew that these golf carts were becoming more and more frequent on our roads,” said Galveston Mayor Craig Brown. “We have had other reports of accidents and so forth with golf carts but nothing to this extent.”

Galveston Mayor Craig Brown said while the golf cart involved in Saturday’s crash was being used in accordance to the city’s ordinance, the city council is considering possible changes to the ordinance. He said the council members may discuss ways of making the roads safer for golf carts, which are legal on certain roads and have become more popular with visitors renting them.

“City council is going to be looking this coming Thursday to possibly be making changes to our ordinance that may give more constraints and better safety for our visitors here. It’s possible that we would be looking at possibly not having golf carts during the evening hours or at night time being able to operate. So we’re just going to look at all aspects of this,” Mayor Brown said.
