Republicans hold Minnesota House seat as Finstad wins special election

Placeholder while article actions load

Republican Brad Finstad, a former state lawmaker, won the special election for Minnesota’s 1st Congressional District, defeating Democrat Jeff Ettinger in a closely watched race.

The Associated Press called the race Wednesday morning, with Finstad holding a narrow lead of 51.1 percent to 46.9 percent with 98 percent of precincts reporting.

“I’m humbled to receive the support of my fellow southern Minnesotans to represent them in Congress,” Finstad tweeted Wednesday. “Our country faces extraordinary challenges, but I am confident that we can come together to overcome them and ensure the 21st century is yet another great American century.”

The seat had been held by Rep. Jim Hagedorn (R-Minn.), who died in February after a battle with kidney cancer.

A member of a family that has farmed for generations, Finstad is the former director of rural development in Minnesota for the US Department of Agriculture. The 46-year-old Minnesota native was appointed to the position by President Donald Trump.

The seat was labeled “likely Republican” by media outlets, given its demographics and history. But analysts were paying close attention to the race to determine whether a Democratic upset — spurred by the recent Supreme Court decision that overturned Roe v. Wade — would suggest that the political environment is improving for Democrats, who are underdogs in their bid to hold their majority in the House.

On his website, Finstad describes himself as a “strong supporter of the Second Amendment, defending the unborn, and keeping government out of the way so entrepreneurs, farmers, and small businesses can thrive.” He calls himself “a conservative fighter running for Congress to fire Nancy Pelosi as Speaker of the House and put the brakes on the out-of-control Biden/Pelosi agenda that is fueling inflation and hurting Southern Minnesota families.”

A former chief executive of Hormel Foods, Ettinger now oversees the food processing company’s foundation. The 63-year-old lawyer is a California native who joined the Minnesota company as a corporate attorney.

Ettinger boasted that he is “not a politician.” He noted that he had never run for office before and said he joined the race “to address the problems that politicians seem unable or unwilling to fix.”

“The voters of Southern Minnesota have spoken, and I want to congratulate Brad Finstad on winning the Special Election last night,” he tweeted Wednesday. “Though I had hoped to celebrate different news with you all, there is plenty for which to be hopeful.”

$18m trail of misery uncovered in relation to former bankrupt cryptocurrency founder

An $18 million trail of financial misery has been uncovered in relation to former bankrupt Robert Tidy including a string of his failed business ventures.

Tidy’s lifestyle resembles that of a billionaire, with first class flights and luxury hotels all posted to social media.

But he now has an even larger number of burnt investors wanting their money returned after his latest venture called Zipett, also collapsed this week.

“Guys, it’s with the heaviest of hearts I must be honest and update you all with news from overseas,” he wrote in an email to investors informing them the latest Zipett project has “ended for now.”

This development comes just over two weeks after A Current Affair first raised question marks over Tidy’s abysmal financial history which resulted in him filing for bankruptcy three times.

A statement of affairs for his 2007 bankruptcy reveals $5.1 million in unpaid debts to 28 creditors, the largest being his father the late Colin Tidy, a well-known Sydney bookmaker.

His bankruptcy in 2018 contained $7.9 million owing including almost $1 million to the Australian Tax Office.

There is also an additional $3.2 million worth of investors money in one of his failed cryptocurrency ventures called Bartercoin.

And another $2.2 million in Zipett coins that also failed to launch.

ASIC searches reveal Robert Colin Tidy has been a director of 21 different companies, 16 of which are now either deregistered or under external administration.

He was also the driver of a $365,000 company-owned Lamborghini which was written off after crashing on the Pacific Highway.

Since it first began investigating Tidy’s affairs, A Current Affair has received more than 50 emails from investors wishing they’d never met him.

Jennifer Hercules and Eric Buckley are one of the largest individual investors impacted by Tidy’s failed business ventures with losses totaling more than $1 million, some of it from her superannuation.

“Our whole world came crashing down,” Hercules said whilst fighting back tears.

“He’s absolutely devastated me, I have sleepless nights, I have nightmares,” she said.

“He’s dashed our hopes of having the life which we’ve worked so hard and saved so hard to have.”

Buckley said he has simple advice for anyone considering investing with Tidy.

“And that is a) don’t believe a word he says. And b) don’t believe a word he says. He promises you the world and delivers zero.”

Women who claim to be former girlfriends of Tidy also revealed he went on gambling sprees, telling one he’d lost up to $250,000 in a single day.

Tidy posted some of his winning bets publicly to his Instagram account, claiming the bets were for his Punters Club.

But Tidy shouldn’t be punting in this country at all, he’d been disqualified from betting with any Australian wagering operator since 1997 due to “defaulting” on bets.

A Current Affair has also obtained videos and pictures distributed by Tidy among his investor group showing 179 bets worth $168,000 in a single day.

A former staffer of Tidy’s who requested their be concealed, said they witnessed him gambling at Townsville Casino whilst bankrupt.

“So we’re probably talking $5000-$10,000 at casinos on the pokies.”

The former staffer also said they doubt ten per cent of profits from some of his various ventures are given to charity, as Tidy claims.

“I’ve never seen a cent go to a charity and I don’t believe there’s ever been a cent go to charity.”

When A Current Affair confronted Tidy at a Sydney hotel last month, he claimed to have donated “easily over $300,000” and named Youth Off The Streets as a recipient of “maybe $100,000”.

Father Chris Riley told A Current Affair “there is no indication” anyone named Robert Tidy “has ever donated to Youth Off The Streets.”

Tidy provided a 25 year-old note indicating he did once pay for children and staff from the charity to attend a State of Origin game, all the way back in 1997.

Hercules and Buckley claim they were not aware of Tidy’s questionable financial history or the extent of his gambling sprees until after they had invested

The Sunshine Coast couple were taken out on fishing trips by Tidy and also wined and dined at expensive restaurants, even celebrating his birthday with him.

“He said that we were his family that he never had,” Buckley said.

They claim Tidy eventually started offering investment information, suggesting it would be better to sell some shares and invest with him “because the money would be a lot safer with him.”

When the project eventually collapsed, Tidy explained in an email that they knew the investment “was going to be HIGHLY AGGRESSIVE.”

Hercules claims he told her it would be “minimal risk” and wouldn’t have invested had she known it was highly aggressive.

Tidy answered a series of questions via email, claiming he “did not say there was no risk” in relation to Hercules’ investment.

He also stated his bankruptcy trustee was informed of his gambling, which involved bets placed for other people.

He admitted to gambling at Townsville casino while bankrupt which he claims his trustee approved.

Justice Dept. Charges Iranian in Plot to Kill John Bolton

WASHINGTON — The Justice Department charged a member of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps on Wednesday with plotting to assassinate John R. Bolton, who served as national security adviser to President Donald J. Trump.

Prosecutors said the Iranian had offered $300,000 to hire someone to kill Mr. Bolton, a conservative foreign policy expert and hard-liner on Iran, in Washington or Maryland.

Officials with the department’s national security division said the planned murder of Mr. Bolton was likely in retaliation for the US military’s killing in January 2020 of Qassim Suleimani, a top commander of the Revolutionary Guard, a branch of Iran’s military that is a power base for the country’s ruling military and political elites.

The man named in the unsealed criminal complaint in federal court in Washington, Shahram Poursafi, 45, is not in custody and remains abroad, department officials said. If captured and convicted, he would face up to 10 years in prison for using interstate commerce facilities in the plot and another 15 years for attempting to provide material support for a transnational murder plot.

Matthew G. Olsen, an assistant attorney general for national security at the Justice Department, said that the case was “not the first time we have uncovered Iranian plots to exact revenge against individuals on US soil, and we will work tirelessly to expose and disrupt every one of these efforts.”

Mr. Bolton — who bitterly opposed the Obama administration’s nuclear deal with Tehran — clashed repeatedly with Mr. Trump during a stormy 17-month tenure as national security adviser. He later wrote a tell-all book detailing the former president’s impulsive and often haphazard foreign policy requests.

“While much cannot be said publicly right now, one point is indisputable: Iran’s rulers are liars, terrorists and enemies of the United States,” Mr. Bolton said in a statement released by his office about the indictment. “Their radical, anti-American objectives are unchanged; their commitments are worthless; and their global threat is growing.”

Splatoon 3 getting a World Premiere Splatfest later this month

Splatoon 3’s big Nintendo Direct just aired, and it showed off a tonne of neat stuff. But perhaps the most exciting part is that you’ll be able to try out that cool stuff very soon — just a few weeks from now.

The World Premiere Splatfest will be similar to Testfires held for Splatoon 1 and 2 in the past, in which players will get to participate in a Splatfest. Splatfests work a little differently in Splatoon 3, with two distinct phases — the first is the usual 4v4 turf war matches, but due to there now being three teams instead of two, there’ll be a second phase where two players from each of the two losing teams will gang up in a tricolor turf war to take down the winning team of four. Obviously quite new and interesting! So it’ll be good to get a chance to try these out before the game launches in September.

The times and dates for the Splatfest World Premiere have been confirmed for Australia, and are as follows:

Perth (AWST) August 28, 8:00 a.m. – August 28, 8:00 p.m.
Adelaide/Darwin (ACST) August 28, 9:30am – August 28, 9:30pm
Melbourne/Sydney/Canberra
/Brisbane/Hobart (AEST)
August 28, 10:00 a.m. – August 28, 10:00 p.m.
New Zealand (NZST) August 28, 12:00pm – August 29, 12:00am

You’ll also be able to download and play some sections of the World Premiere app from the 25th of August.

Click here to check out the rest of the news from the night’s Direct.

Olivia Newton-John secretly visited grieving, injured Perth girl in Princess Margaret Hospital

Olivia Newton-John’s selfless attitude can be best described in a secret hospital visit to a grieving and badly hurt girl in a Perth hospital in 2003.

Emily Barker was just 11 and in critical condition in Princess Margaret Hospital after a crash in Beechboro that killed her 39-year-old mother, Catherine. Their car and a truck had collided after lightning had knocked out traffic lights at the scene of the incident.

Soon after, the girl’s father Ron — knowing Newton-John was in Perth for a concert — rang her record label to try to organize a spirit-lifting visit.

Simmering threat of violence comes to fore with search of Trump property

Comment

For months, right-wing agitators with millions of followers have peddled the idea that a moment was coming soon when violence would become necessary — a patriotic duty — to save the republic.

With the FBI search Monday of Donald Trump’s compound in Florida, that moment is now, according to enraged commentators’ all-caps, exclamation-pointed screeds urging supporters of the former president to take up arms. Within hours of the search at Mar-a-Lago, a chorus of Republican lawmakers, conservative talk-show hosts, anti-government provocateurs and pro-Trump conspiracy theorists began issuing explicit or thinly veiled calls for violence.

“Today is war. That is all you will get on today’s show,” right-wing podcaster Steven Crowder Tuesday announced to his nearly 2 million followers on Twitter, referring to the program that goes to his YouTube audience of 5.6 million.

Extremist organizers have tried to hold on to the momentum they built in recent years by finding big-tent causes absurd facts could rally around, such as opposition to pandemic restrictions, “Stop the Steal” election denial, or an imagined socialist “indoctrination” of schoolchildren. With each iteration, analysts say, the networks have grown more sophisticated and more violent, as evidenced by the Capitol riot on Jan. 6, 2021.

The FBI’s search at Mar-a-Lago for classified documents is now presented as a tipping point, an existential threat to the United States that true patriots must thwart.

The FBI searched former president Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago Club on Aug. 8 as part of an investigation into whether presidential documents were mishandled. (Video: Blair Guild/The Washington Post)

FBI searches Trump safe at Mar-a-Lago for possible classified documents

Extremism researcher Caroline Orr Bueno compiled to collage of dozens of screenshots of tweets calling for violence in response to the search, or “raid” in the parlance of Trump supporters. “I already bought my ammo,” one person boasted in the sampling. “Civil War! Pick up arms, people!” ordered another.

An immediate concern is the safety of the federal judge in Florida who approved the search warrant. Once his name of him made its way to right-wing forums, threats and conspiracy theories soon followed. Online pro-Trump groups spread his contact information and, as of Tuesday afternoon, the judge’s official page was no longer accessible on the court’s website.

Orr Bueno said it was ominous to see “a disturbing number of elected Republicans and influential right-wing figures joining in on the ‘civil war’ rhetoric.”

This whole situation is red meat for their base. They use events like this to feed into this fantasy they’ve co-created with their supporters, and defusing the situation would require stepping out of that alternate reality,” said Orr Bueno, a postdoctoral research associate at the University of Maryland who studies disinformation . “They’re not going to do that, particularly with 2024 right around the corner.”

Since the search Monday, Telegram channels popular with right-wing militants have been awash with vows to “lock and load” for civil war against what they deem a tyrannical federal government subverting the Constitution and “persecuting” a patriotic leader. NBC News identified one user who referenced civil war on TheDonald, a Reddit-like forum for Trump supporters, as Tyler Welsh Slaeker, who is awaiting sentencing for his role in storming the Capitol.

In mainstream GOP quarters, extremism trackers say, the nudges toward violence are more subtle, with statements delegitimizing the government as a “police state” or a “banana republic” that must be opposed, starting with the dismantling of federal agencies. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) called the search “the weaponization of federal agencies against the Regime’s political opponents.”

At 9:42 pm on Monday, Charlie Kirk, leader of the student conservative group Turning Point USA, which has held its annual gala at Mar-a-Lago, tweeted: “The people who did this want to stoke civil conflict. Don’t fall for it.” Not even an hour later, Kirk had changed his tune from him, adding another tweet at 10:39 pm that read, “They will not stop until they fear a cost for their abuse. That is how it works.” The comments below the post made clear that both his supporters and detractors interpreted the message as a call for militant action.

Far-right Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) tweeted “DEFUND THE FBI!!” She added an image of an upside-down US flag, which many on the right have embraced as a symbol of the nation in distress.

“If this line of thought continues, I suspect we’ll see more far-right chatter about federal government buildings or people being legitimate targets,” warned Casey Cox, a political scientist at Texas A&M University who studies domestic terrorism.

The Mar-a-Lago probe put a spotlight on violent and dehumanizing political speech, but it has been lurking in the background for months. Examples in the past year include Jarome Bell, a Republican running for Congress in Virginia, who tweeted a call to put to death anyone convicted of voter fraud: “Arrest all involved. Try all involved. Convict all involved. Execute all involved.” Wendy Rogers, a far-right state senator in Arizona, told a white nationalist convention in Florida that “we need to build more gallows” to handle “traitors.”

In remarks in Nashville, Sen. Rick Scott (R-Fla.) said “the militant left wing in our country has become the enemy within.” He added: “You may think that’s pretty dramatic, right, calling them the ‘enemy within’? Yes, I am.”

National Archives had to retrieve Trump White House records from Mar-a-Lago

If the goal is to normalize vigilante violence as a political response, studies show that the tactic seems to be working.

A recent Washington Post-University of Maryland poll found that about 1 in 3 Americans say they believe violence against the government can at times be justified, the largest share to feel that way in more than two decades. Other studies have similarly found a growing tolerance of violent ideologies that historically were confined to fringe elements.

Cox, of Texas A&M, has tracked how these ideas were laundered into the mainstream right over decades, creating an “increasing undertone of violence that has been simmering since the early ’90s.” By 2008, coinciding with the right-wing backlash to Barack Obama’s presidency, the messaging was becoming more overt.

“Certainly by 2008 or ’09 we do see more pronounced violence. We see more campaign ads either on TV or online featuring ‘targets.’ You have Ted Cruz cooking bacon on the barrel of a gun. And I do n’t think it’s a big leap to go from that to Eric Greitens and his de él ‘RINO-hunting,’ ”Cox said, referring to a US Senate candidate’s recent campaign ad promoting vigilante violence against people described as“ Republicans in name only.”

Cox said aggressive gerrymandering has created a more extreme electorate, forcing politicians to veer further right to stay in office. Violent rhetoric that once was considered disqualifying is now politics as usual, a shift that began before Trump but was hastened under his presidency. As shown by the Jan. 6 riot investigation, Cox said, veiled calls for violence in political speech move quickly from more mainstream outlets such as Fox News to far-right extremist forums.

“By the time you get through some of that, you can really see a lot of the sheen coming off, where ‘We’re going to have a wild rally’ becomes, ‘Bring weapons, we’re going to storm the Capitol, ‘” Cox said.

Extremism analysts said that’s what they fear is happening now, with a burst of inflammatory rhetoric this week telling millions of Republicans that they should abandon trust in the FBI, the electoral system, schools — virtually all functions of government.

Holley Hansen, an assistant professor at Oklahoma State University who researches political violence and conflict mediation, cited a description of democracy as “governance through conflict,” a system that encourages vigorous debate but with mechanisms to resolve disagreements peacefully. The problem, Hansen said, is that the 2020 election denial was a catalyst in the militant movement’s long game to undermine democratic institutions and seize power by force.

“If you can’t trust the institutions that are designed to peacefully resolve disputes and you begin to see the other side as an enemy,” Hansen said, “the desire to act — and the need to act — really becomes more easily justified. ”

Holden recalls almost 14,000 vehicles over brake booster manufacturing defect

The Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Communications has issued recall notices to the owners of 13,898 Holden ZB Commodore cars.

In a statement, the department said a manufacturing defect with the vehicle’s brake boosters could “increase the risk of an accident” and cause “serious injury or death.”

The vehicles in question were sold to drivers from 2018 to 2020.

“Due to a manufacturing defect, the brake booster may fail,” the department said in its statement.

“If this occurs, the stopping distance in the un-boosted condition would exceed the distance prescribed by the Australian Design Rule (ADR) 31/03.”

The department said the vehicles were “not compliant with the vehicle standard (ADR) 31/03-Brake Systems for Passenger Cars”.

If the brake booster failed to operate as intended, the department said, “it could increase the risk of an accident causing serious injury or death to vehicle occupants and/or other road users.”

A full list of the affected vehicle identification numbers has been provided by the department.

Affected owners offered free software update

The department said owners of affected cars would be contacted by General Motors Australia and New Zealand.

Drivers have been asked to contact their local dealer to have the Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM) software updated, free of charge.

While the update is free, it’s up to vehicle owners to organize a time to have the task done.

So, if you’re affected, get in touch with your nearest Holden dealer to check availability.

ZB is last Holden model with iconic Commodore badge

The German-sourced ZB was the last Holden model to feature Holden’s iconic Commodore name.

At the end of 2019, the automobile manufacturer announced it would withdraw both the model and the Holden brand in Australia and New Zealand in 2020.

The Galaxy Buds 2 Pro Promise Hi-Fi Audio For Samsung Phones Only

New buds alert! Samsung has announced the second-generation Galaxy Buds 2 Pro in tandem with its latest batch of foldables. These new buds are the successors to 2021’s Buds Pro. They promise 24-bit audio capabilities for Samsung phones and also boast a smaller form factor, so they’re comfortable inside more ear types. Though they’re a little pricier than the original Buds Pro were out of the gate, Samsung swears its top-of-the-line buds can deliver the “ultimate wireless listening experience.”

Our review will have to see about that, especially considering the spectrum of buds available on the market — not to mention the newly released Android-friendly Google Pixel Buds Pro, which impressed us with their battery life and noise cancellation. Until then, here’s a glimpse at what’s to come.

The Galaxy Buds 2 Pro come in a matte finish this time around. (Photo: Florence Ion / Gizmodo)The Galaxy Buds 2 Pro come in a matte finish this time around. Image: Florence Ion/Gizmodo

The Buds 2 Pro feature a similar look to last year’s Galaxy Buds reprise, though they’re matte instead of shiny. Samsung says it made them more ergonomic and 15 per cent smaller than the previous Buds Pro. They feel nice in hand, and I imagine the texture of the bud is more tuned to stay in the ear than that of the Buds 2 I’m using now. But they seem like they attract dust more than their smooth counterparts. We’ll have to test the new matte finish against body oils and stuffy rooms.

Samsung’s long attempted to be the Android accessory maker equivalent to Apple. In particular, the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro are Samsung’s answer to the AirPods Pro, which is why they feature some Samsung-only abilities. Samsung smartphones running One UI 4.0 or higher will have access to the Buds 2 Pro’s proprietary 24-bit Hi-Fi and direct-multi channel sound tech, which Samsung says helps music and audio come out “just the way it was intended.” Each bud’s new coaxial two-way speaker should also help the audio sound fuller.

The Galaxy Buds 2 Pro is smaller than the last Buds Pro. (Photo: Florence Ion / Gizmodo)The Galaxy Buds 2 Pro is smaller than the last Buds Pro. Image: Florence Ion/Gizmodo

Samsung improved the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro’s ambient noise cancellation (ANC) by adding three extra levels of decibel protection. When it’s on, there’s a voice detection feature that can distinguish between actual noise and a human talking. Like other headphones and earbuds with similar abilities, the Buds 2 Pro will reduce the playback volume when folks are chatting so you can keep up in the conversation. This should be particularly helpful for commuters or those who work in an open office.

We’re hoping the larger 500 mAh battery on the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro will fare better than the Buds Pro’s 472 mAh pack. Samsung advertises up to 5 hours of playback for the buds with ANC on and 8 hours with it off. The Buds 2 Pro charging case can bump that up to 18 hours of full playback with ANC on and 29 hours with it off.

The Galaxy Buds 2 Pro comes in several colors, including graphite (seen here), white, and bora purple. (Photo: Florence Ion / Gizmodo)The Galaxy Buds 2 Pro comes in several colors, including graphite (seen here), white, and bora purple. Image: Florence Ion/Gizmodo

If you lose an earbud or the entire case, the Buds 2 Pro can be located using the SmartThings Find network. They also have an IPX7 water resistance rating, so they can withstand up to a meter of water for up to half an hour for those accidental dunks.

The Galaxy Buds 2 Pro work with Android 8 devices or higher. They’re also compatible with Windows devices, and select Samsung TVs released after July 2022. They even work with iOS devices, though only as regular Bluetooth earbuds. If you are switching between devices, the Buds 2 Pro can use Auto Switch to swap between paired active devices.

The Samsung Galaxy Buds 2 Pro come in three colors: graphite, white and bora purple.

Samsung Galaxy Buds 2 Pro: Australian pricing and release date

Preorder for the Samsung Galaxy Buds 2 Pro will begin Thursday, August 11, with general availability starting September 2 in Australia.

The Galaxy Buds 2 Pro will set you back $349.

Samsung also used Galaxy Unpacked to unleash its new Galaxy Z Flip 4, Galaxy Z Fold 4 and the Galaxy Watch 5 and Watch 5 Pro.

Kids orphaned as parents fall to death from Bronx apartment

Investigators are probing whether there was a struggle before an Albanian actor and his wife plunged to their deaths from their apartment in New York over the weekend, a police source said.

Florind Belliu, 35, an actor and aspiring filmmaker originally from Albania, and his wife Ornela Shehi, 28, were found in the rear courtyard of 2199 Cruger Avenue in the Bronx at around 9.15am on Saturday, cops and police sources said.

“There were signs in the apartment that indicated it wasn’t all Kumbaya, like they didn’t just decide to leave their kids behind and jump,” the source told the new york post.

The source wouldn’t provide any more details on the alleged “signs”.

A suicide note was not left behind, according to the source.

Authorities are waiting for autopsy results to determine whether Mr Shehi suffered any injuries not indicative of a fall, the source said.

By late Tuesday morning, the city’s Medical Examiner’s (ME) Office had not made a determination on either Mr Shehi or Ms Belliu’s death.

“Both are pending while the ME awaits additional investigative information,” a spokeswoman said, adding that the signs could include “further testing of remains or investigatory material from the scene”.

Mr Shehi was caught on video plunging from the building’s sixth floor first and hitting the alleyway, with Ms Belliu landing seconds later, sources told the post a day after the couple’s deaths.

The couple moved into the building with their two young children about four months ago, and authorities never received reports of domestic violence related to the couple, according to police sources.

Neighbors told the post on Saturday that the pair were a “quiet couple” who “kept to themselves,” and were often seen taking walks – but also that Mr Belliu had been seen visibly angry Friday.

“I’ve seen them always buying things for the house, like every day together, with two kids together, we didn’t recognize there was something wrong,” said Shadie Perkaj, the wife of the building’s super.

She said Saturday was Mr Belliu’s birthday.

Mr Belliu’s pal Elona Caslli mourned her lost friend on Facebook.

“A multiple tragedy for which there is no word of consolation. God give strength to your children and parents,” Ms Caslli wrote in Albanian.

Ms Belliu was a graduate of the University of Arts in Tirana, Albania, and performed on TV and in the theater before moving to the US, EuroNews Albania reported.

As of two years ago, he was working on two books and a movie script he hoped to pitch to Netflix, the report said.

Police sources said he may have been recently working as a livery driver to help make ends meet.
