GTA 6 Will ‘Set Creative Benchmarks’ for All Entertainment, Promises Take-Two

Development for GTA 6 is now underway and so begins the years of hype and speculation surrounding the follow-up to the titan that is GTA 5 and GTA Online. It’s not going to be an easy act to follow, as GTA 5 and GTA Online have combined to break sale records across three console generations. Will GTA 6 succeed? Well, parent company Take-Two Interactive certainly thinks so.

GTA 6 hype is being built by parent company Take-Two Interactive

In a recent earnings call, Take-Two stated that GTA 6 is now fully in development and is aiming to “set creative benchmarks” for “all entertainment.”

Sales of Grand Theft Auto V also remained strong, and to date, the title has sold-in nearly 170 million units. With development of the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series well underway, the Rockstar Games team is determined to once again set creative benchmarks for the series, our industry, and for all entertainment, just as the label has done with every one of their frontline releases.

Not only is the game going to raise the bar for the GTA series, but it will also apparently be making waves for the entire industry and entertainment as a whole.

It’s bold words from the parent company, but it’s understandable when you consider just how well GTA 5 and its online component have done over the last nine years. With almost a decade of success under its belt, it sure would be impressive to see GTA 6 emulate that level of incredible success.

With the game still in early development, it’s likely going to be a long while before we know more about how GTA 6 will be pushing the envelope in game design.

In other PlayStation news, a new Alone in the Dark game is potentially being teased. Sony’s Inzone M9 gaming monitors are available to pre-order (again). Elden Ring has received a new update which adds new co-op and invasion features.

What is an anti-wedding? The wedding trend explained.

The big white dress. Hundreds of guests. A spectacle.

In 2022, weddings have swung so far in the other direction that many couples are now opting for everything a traditional wedding is not.

It’s being dubbed the ‘anti-wedding’.

Not to be mistaken for no wedding at all, the anti wedding is a movement that ditches perceived wedding essentials and over-the-top extravagances weddings are often associated with, allowing the couple to focus on the celebration without the stress or financial burden.

It might look like bucking traditions you don’t believe in, or going small, with fewer guests and excessive extras.

Watch: Here’s what songs celebrities chose for their first dance when they were married. Post continues below.

Maybe it’s having a wedding at home, wearing an off-the-rack dress that’s possibly not white at all.

Or drinking wine out of paper cups and making your own playlist instead of hiring a DJ.

Or walking down the aisle by yourself, or with your partner, or with both your parents, or not walking down the aisle at all.

It’s saying no all the “usual wedding things” that simply don’t feel like you, and being radically authentic in how you do represent yourself and your love story.

Over the years, lots of betrothed celebrities have endorsed the concept.

Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick had an anti wedding way back in 1997.

They invited their friends to a “party” on a Monday night and SJP wore a black dress because she didn’t want people to pay her too much attention.

More recently, Lily Allen and David Harbor tied the knot in a low-key wedding ceremony in Las Vegas, which was officiated by an Elvis impersonator.

All Blacks v Springboks: Duane Vermeulen back as South Africa change five for second All Blacks test

Duane Vermeulen of South Africa speaks to his team during the Rugby World Cup final between the Springboks and England in Yokohama. Photo/Getty Images

Duane Vermeulen is back at No. 8 for his first test this year as South Africa made five changes to its starting lineup today for its second Rugby Championship game against New Zealand.

Two of those changes were forced, with Jaden Hendrikse at scrumhalf in place of Faf de Klerk, who was ruled out with concussion. Jesse Kriel is called in on the right wing to replace Kurt-Lee Arendse, who was sent off and also sustained a concussion in the Springboks’ 26-10 win over the All Blacks in Mbombela on Sunday.

Arendse was suspended for four weeks for the dangerous midair tackle on Beauden Barrett that led to his red card and his injury.

South Africa coach Jacques Nienaber also made two tactical switches in the front row for the game at Ellis Park in Johannesburg on Saturday by bringing in Ox Nché for Trevor Nyakane at loosehead prop and restoring Bongi Mbonambi as starting hooker in place of Malcolm Marx. Tighthead prop Frans Malherbe is set for his 50th test.

Herschel Jantjies was called up to the reserves as scrumhalf cover and Jasper Wiese dropped to the bench to make way for the return of the 36-year-old Vermeulen, who has recently undergone knee surgery.

“Duane has a massive presence on the field and there is no bigger game for him to make his comeback from injury than facing the All Blacks,” said Nienaber.

The Springboks are seeking back-to-back wins over the All Blacks for the first time since 2009 and another defeat for New Zealand is expected to see coach Ian Foster lose his job. The All Blacks have lost five of their last six tests to slip to an all-time low of No. 5 on the world rankings.

Foster is expected to name his team for Ellis Park on Thursday and has injury doubts over Beauden Barrett at flyhalf and his brother Jordie at fullback.

South Africa: 15 Damian Willemse, 14 Jesse Kriel, 13 Lukhanyo Am, 12 Damian de Allende, 11 Makazole Mapimpi, 10 Handré Pollard, 9 Jaden Hendrikse; 8 Duane Vermeulen, 7 Pieter-Steph du Toit, 6 Siya Kolisi (captain), 5 Lood de Jager, 4 Eben Etzebeth, 3 Frans Malherbe, 2 Bongi Mbonambi, 1 Ox Nché. Child grooming charge against South Australian teacher Ammy Singleton dropped

Charges have been dropped against a female relief teacher who was accused of grooming a 16-year-old boy for sex.

Ammy Singleton, 28, was charged with communicating to make a child amenable to sexual activity at Port Augusta last year.

But on Wednesday, the Port Augusta Magistrates Court heard the complainant no longer wanted to proceed with the charges and the case against her was dropped.

Ms Singleton was a relief teacher at several schools in Port Augusta.

But the court previously heard the allegations had nothing to do with Ms Singleton’s job as a teacher.

“The [alleged victim] … a 16-year-old young male … became aware of Ms Singleton from a picture taken of her without her knowledge at the club,” Ms Singleton’s lawyer Andrew Fowler-Walker told the court in May.

“[The alleged victim] then obtained details of a chat room from his friends.

“In no way was he ever taught by Ms Singleton.”

Earlier this year, the principals of the Port Augusta West, Augusta Park and Flinders View primary schools sent letters to parents advising them that Ms Singleton, who taught each as a temporary relief teacher, had been charged with a child sex offence.

All the letters stated that no students at those schools were involved in the alleged offending.

Under Ms Singleton’s bail conditions she was banned from engaging in any child-related work.

ABC News has contacted the Department for Education for a response.

Ms Singleton did not comment as she left court.

Yaser Said found guilty in 2008 murder of his teenage daughters

Prior to his 2020 arrest, Said had been on the run from law enforcement for 12 years, even making the FBI’s Top 10 Most Wanted list.

DALLAS — Yaser Said, once listed as one of the most wanted men in America, has been found guilty of killing his two teenage daughters.

Said’s daughters Sarah, 17, and Amina Said, 18, were found dead in 2008, slumped in Said’s borrowed taxi as it was parked in front of the Omni Hotel in Irving. The girls died of multiple gunshot wounds.

Their deaths have been described as so-called “honor killings” — because they believed Said was upset that his daughters had been dating outside the Muslim faith. In her final moments, Said’s younger daughter Sarah managed to call 911 and identify her father as the shooter.

In the wake of his daughters’ death, Said hid from authorities as they sought to arrest him. He evaded law enforcement for 12 years, and eventually ended up on the FBI’s Top 10 Most Wanted list. He was later found at a home in Justin, Texas, just 30 miles from where Sarah and Amina were killed.

Upon detaining Said in 2020, the FBI also arrested his son and brother on charges of harboring a fugitive. Each of those men has since been convicted and sentenced to more than a decade in prison.

Yaser, by all accounts and even his own, was the last person known to have seen the girls alive that day.

“All signs always pointed to Yaser Said. Period,” prosecutor Lauren Black told jurors during closing arguments. “And we have an eye witness to the crime. Sarah said tells you who her killer is.

Black replayed Sarah’s 911 for jurors, where she says her dad shot her. Their mother, Patricia, became visibly emotional.

“She’s screaming out from the grave,” Black said. “He’s here. He did it.”

Black reminded jurors about the email Amina wrote on Dec. 21, just days her death. Amina told her teacher that she and her sister were running away because they feared their father.

“He has simply made our lives a nightmare,” the email said. “…I know that he will search til he finds us and he without any drama or any doubt kill us.”

At the end of six days in the capital murder trial, jurors deliberated for about three hours before returning their guilty verdict Tuesday afternoon.

Over the course of the trial, prosecutors painted a picture of Said as a jealous and angry man who controlled his daughters’ lives. They detailed the brutal nature with which his daughters were murdered, and they described it in graphic detail.

Said’s attorneys, meanwhile, only called one witness to testify: Said himself.

Throughout his testimony, Said — aided by a translator — denied that he killed his daughters, saying that he loved them, claiming that he feared for his own safety the night they were killed. He said they were alive and well when they left them in the taxi.

He said he was the victim of a media smear campaign that was all too eager to paint him as a killer.

“He is asking you to suspend all common sense, all reality to believe that story,” prosecutor Brandi Mitchell told jurors. “It was so absurd. It is insulting to the memory of Amina and Sarah Said.”

Mitchell told jurors that Said couldn’t explain why someone would want to hurt him. She said it did n’t make sense that he would leave his two girls in the cab with his phone and his gun from him.

“Does that seem reasonable?” Mitchell said.

Throughout the trial and in closing arguments, Said’s attorneys attacked the investigation itself. They questioned, among other things, why the police didn’t take fingerprints from the car, why gunshot residue wasn’t taken from the girl’s boyfriends and why written statements weren’t taken from the boyfriends.

Said’s attorneys have implied that Sarah could have been suffering from a rare condition that causes auditory and visual hallucinations when she made that 911 call pointing the finger at her father.

“This is insulting to the memory of Amina and Sarah,” defense attorney Joe Patton said. “The police insulted their memory.”

Defense attorney Bahranan Muse told jurors that prosecutors and investigators had based their case “on prejudice and ignorance.” Yaser, she said, was a conservative father who sought to protect his daughters from him and was not an abuser.

“Discipline does not mean you murdered your children,” Muse said. “Your culture does not mean you murdered your children.”

After the verdict, Said’s former wife, Patricia Owens, took the stand to give a victim’s act statement.

She told him because of his actions Amina and Sarah never went to prom, graduated from high school or became doctors as they had dreamed of doing.

“They were very smart intelligent and bright and did not have an enemy in the world, their father, the devil, that killed them,” she said, holding up pictures of the girls as she spoke to him.

She told Said that not only had he killed his daughters, he had “brainwashed” their son who is now in prison for helping to hide him.

Said became visibly angry as she spoke. The judge admonished his attorneys to keep their clients quit.

“You can keep those evil eyes on me as long as you want, but you will never break me down again nor will you ever be able to hurt another person,” Owens told him.

She told him she hopes he suffers just the way their daughters did.

“At this time, you are nothing. You are a prisoner. You are a murderer and the devil,” she said.

Said’s former sister-in-law, Connie Moggio, who had spoken to Amina on the day she died, also addressed Said.

“There is no honor in killing two unarmed people. I call that being a coward,” she said. “The only thing you did to your family was stain it with your family’s blood. Now it is your turn to get what you gave, a prison you call home.”

Prosecutors did not seek out the death penalty in this capital murder case; with this conviction, Said is automatically sentenced to life in prison without parole.

Tennis news 2022: Naomi Osaka retires from Toronto opener with back pain

Four-time grand slam champion Naomi Osaka retired from her opening match at the WTA Toronto Masters with lower back pain on Wednesday AEST, raising injury concerns with the US Open looming.

Estonia’s Kaia Kanepi advanced when Osaka retired trailing 7-6, 3-0.

Kanepi, a runner-up last week in Washington, needed 71 minutes on court as she broke three times before the Japanese star called it quits.

Defeat drove the emotional Osaka to tears.

“I felt my back from the start of the match and despite trying to push through it, I just wasn’t able to today,” Osaka said.

“I’d like to pay credit to Kaia for playing well and want to wish her all the best for the rest of the tournament.”

Osaka has played only six matches with a 2-4 record since losing the Miami final in early April to world No. 1 Iga Swiatek.

Kanepi, 37, won their only prior meeting five years ago in three sets at the US Open.

“I tried to play my game and stay aggressive. It was a very tight match,” Kanepi said.

“I felt I needed a little more time to get used to new things, but after that I felt comfortable.”

Meanwhile, reigning US Open champion Emma Raducanu of Britain exited in the first round, losing 7-6, 6-2 to Italy’s Camila Giorgi.

Despite the setback in the city of her birth 19 years ago, Raducanu kept her spirits up as her US Open title defense draws nearer.

“It was a really good match, to be honest,” Raducanu said.

“The level was pretty high, especially in the first set.

“Camila’s a great opponent. She won this tournament last year. I just need to get better at dealing with players who play probably as quick as she does.”

Defending WTA Canadian champion Giorgi won a combative first set and ran away with the second against the 19-year-old Englishwoman, whose title defense in New York begins in less than three weeks.

The feisty Italian trailed by a break in both sets but showed her spirit by winning the last six games of the contest.

Giorgi needed just over an hour and three-quarters to advance to the second round over the ninth seed who broke into the top 10 ranking less than a month ago.

Raducanu had to hold on in a wild opening set, where serve was broken in six of the dozen games played.

The Briton saved a set point in the 12th game to bring on a tie-breaker, but collapsed to lose seven straight points as Giorgi took the set after 71 minutes.

Raducanu was broken three times in the second set as Giorgi finished off her victory.

Shorter hospital stays solution to elective surgery backlog, new analysis finds

Paul Murgatroyd, 46, chose the short-stay option – only staying in hospital one night – following his right hip replacement in June.

The prospect of recovering in his own home at Allambie Heights, with his wife’s home cooking, three children and pet labrador was considerably more appealing than the bed, food and ambience a hospital would provide.

“It sounds a bit daunting at first that you’ll be coming home after a day in hospital,” Murgatroyd said. “But having done it, it makes a lot of sense.”

“I went home on crutches and had great support from the hospital… I could call at any time. A nurse visited to check up on me and a physiotherapist has come over once a week for six weeks,” he said.

Murgatroyd is planning to use the short-stay option again following his left hip replacement surgery next week.

Wilson said the short-stay model was not for everyone.

loading

He said patients with complex health needs and comorbidities will need longer hospital stays, “but when it is safe to do so, it’s highly regarded, effective and well-liked”.

“Another key driver was removing out-of-pocket costs,” Wilson said.

Hip or knee replacement patients pay on average $1,200 out of pocket, and are expected to pay $1,400 by 2030. Assuming 10 per cent of eligible patients opted for the short-stay program in 2023, they would save $10 million in out-of-pocket costs collectively or $34 million in 2030, the report projected.

The KPMG analysis found there was no significant difference in the probability of having a medical complication between the 284 patients in the short-stay program and patients receiving conventional care in hospital, echoing international studies.

Health and Aged Care program director at the Grattan Institute, Dr Stephen Duckett, said other insurers should follow suit.

loading

“The issue for the insurance industry is that consumers are juggling mortgages that are going up, who also want to buy lettuce and health insurance. Insurers want to keep insurance costs down and private hospitals want to maximize revenue,” Duckett said.

“A private hospital can increase revenue by offering rehabilitation, which might be two hours a day of physiotherapy… but the hospital is getting payment for the days you’re in a bed, plus the meals, the nurses, all those other elements.

“No wonder it’s more cost-effective to have those couple hours of physio at home,” Duckett said.

Federal judge denies LIV golfers bid for PGA Tour postseason

SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) — A federal judge in California ruled Tuesday that three golfers who joined Saudi-backed LIV Golf will not be able to compete in the PGA Tour’s postseason.

US District Judge Beth Labson Freeman made her decision in San Jose after attorneys for the sides each spoke for about an hour. Freeman said she didn’t consider the golfers faced irreparable harm because of the big money they were guaranteed by joining LIV, a key issue in the case.

“There simply is no irreparable harm in this case,” PGA Tour attorney Elliot Peters said.

The three suspended golfers were seeking a temporary restraining order, which Freeman denied. Talor Gooch, Matt Jones and Hudson Swafford claimed they should be able to play where they want to, each saying in letters last month to the PGA Tour, “I am a free agent and independent contractor.” They are among 10 players who filed an antitrust lawsuit against the PGA Tour last week — including Phil Mickelson.

Robert Walters, an antitrust litigator representing the golfers, noted this would be their opportunity on a big playoff stage, “effectively the Super Bowl of golf” because of its “significant income opportunities.” Freeman responded that the LIV Tour earnings potential was also great and asked whether players might have been able to wait until the conclusion of the PGA Tour season to depart for the new tour.

Walters argued there were only 48 spots and they would have filled up according to LIV Golf CEO Greg Norman, to which Freeman said she agreed with that stance but that the golfers stood to gain far more financially joining LIV than the money they might have earned on the PGA Tour.

“This is an extraordinarily attractive financial opportunity but it’s much more than that,” Walters said, saying the harm done is that “players lose intangible benefits” such as qualifications for the major tournaments as well as other marquee invitationals.

“This is the holy grail because everybody wants to compete in and prevail in major championships, but it’s not just the majors,” Walters said. I have noted that the PGA Tour inferred these golfers would put a “taint” or “stench” on the tour’s image by playing, perhaps even wearing LIV Tour gear in PGA Tour tournaments.

“We’re disappointed that Talor Gooch, Hudson Swafford and Matt Jones won’t be allowed to play golf. No one gains by banning golfers from playing,” LIV Golf said in a statement.

The first of three FedEx Cup playoff events begin Thursday. Two tournaments offer $15 million prize funds, and the player who wins the FedEx Cup at East Lake in Atlanta gets $18 million — thus the urgency for Freeman to rule. This case could go to trial next year, with the possibility of an injunction hearing in late September or early October, according to Peters.

Peters said lifting the suspensions of the golfers and allowing them to play would “change the status quo” for the PGA Tour and “give them a fabulous platform” to promote the LIV tour while competing in a PGA event.

“I think it’s a huge problem,” he said. “… The Commissioner needs the ability to protect the Tour. This is a very dire situation for the Tour.”

Gooch (No. 20), Jones (No. 65) and Swafford (No. 67) are among nine players who have joined LIV Golf and finished the regular season among the top 125 in the FedEx Cup standings. The other six who joined LIV Golf are not asking to play in the tour’s postseason.

PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan issued a memo to members that included: “With today’s news, our players, fans and partners can now focus on what really matters over the next three weeks: the best players in the world competing in the FedEx Cup Playoffs, capping off an incredibly compelling season with the crowning of the FedEx Cup champion at the Tour Championship.”
